I really wanted to love this place. Really. But a few things soured me. The good: People working there were friendly and service was good. Food was prepared quickly. My gyro sandwich was good, but nothing exceptional. My wife had a chicken shwarma plate that was good, but, much like the gyro, was overall bland and lacking seasoning. The bad: The menu board said the sandwich came with a pickle. I didn't get a pickle. Also, the falafels were dense and bland. AND....they were supposed to come with tahini dipping sauce, but got none. So pretty hard to eat them without it. Overall. Meh. I wish I had received the tahini and pickle I was promised. Plain and simple, I was blown away. I have passed this place numerous times on my way down towards the Milwaukee/Ashland/Division intersection for food, drinks, or the gym and have never even noticed it! I was really in the mood for Mediterranean food, so I decided to step in and see what this place was all about. First of all, the portions are beyond generous. I got the Chicken Shawarma entree that came with a healthy serving of chicken, rice, hummus and pita, and a side salad all for $10.49! The chicken was incredible and every bit was different which is what had me continually coming back for more. One bite would be juicy and melt in your mouth, while the next was crispy and packed full of flavor. There is no better bang for your buck in the area, especially for the quality of food! This Mediterranean restaurant is my new favorite in this neighborhood. For obvious reasons it will be compared to falafel grill on Milwaukee. I think that Shawarma Garden exceeds the others because it is much cleaner and slightly cheaper. The people were very nice and were willing to talk to you. I got shawarma plate and everything was great. Sometimes shawarma can get dry, but this was tender and super tasty. It was a lot of food and came with hummus, puts bread, salad, and rice. It was actually a lot of meat and probably more than they could fit in a sandwich. I would recommend this place to anyone and I look forward to heading back soon. read more

The hummus is pretty good, the falafel is decent, but the Shwarma was not good, and neither was the service, or any part of the general experience. Awesome! These guys know how to do it right. I had a chicken shawarma platter and loved it. The rice in these places is usually a throw away, but this was really well seasoned and delicious. I ordered again from then the other day and tried the veggie combo and it was also great. I really like that they warm the pitas for you. The only problem I had was that I ordered two sodas with my meal that they forgot to put in the bag. Not a deal breaker, but kind of annoying. Today, I was walking by (i live two blocks away) and the guy from the restaurant comes running down the street after me with 2 diet cokes! It was really nice of him to remember and hunt me down. And they have only been open a few weeks, so I am sure things will only get better. The only other thing I can say is that it is not the fastest casual food ever, but it because they actually take the time to prepare things to order and don't have food sitting around which makes everything taste so much better. Delivery is fast and the food is delicious. Portions are big and prices are all reasonable based on local comps. My favorites are the Chicken Tawook and the gyro. I recently ordered chicken shawarma added to a salad and wasn't a huge fan--the meat seemed much darker and more fatty than I've ever had from anywhere else. The garlic dip is great...comes in a huge container so we use it on salads and sandwiches for a week! Only reason I give it 4/5 is because of inconsistency. I've had salads arrive missing toppings (olives/feta) and once with dressing when it was requested without...and side of pita bread some days means one half a pita and other days means 3 halves...we never know until it arrives haha The food is great so we will definitely keep ordering. read more

We've gotten delivery from here a couple of times - now that Chickpea is closed, we were looking for a new go-to Mediterranean spot. I've tried the gyros and the greek salad with gyro meat. The meat was super salty both times I tried it, so I don't think I'd order gyros from them again. My husband got the 4 meat kabab plate one time and the falafel sandwich the other time. The kababs were fine, and the falafel is really tasty. I'd give this place another shot, but I'd probably skip the gyros - Greek Corner has the market cornered on those. read more

I was totally skeptical of this place initially because to be completely honest, it's pretty ugly, has sparse seating, and it's strangely quiet but I'm so glad I tried it anyway! I went in with a white friend of mine and was complete disrespected by the staff. I was literally the first individual to order. I ordered a simple wrap with falafel. I paid and sat while waiting for my order to be prepared. My friend who ordered after me got his food... ten minutes go by and nothing... I watch as people enter and leave the establishment. I approach the individual who took my order, only to be YELLED at. He claimed " I told you it would be 25 minutes when you ordered and you said that would be OK!" He never mentioned anything about a wait time. I'm an extremely perceptive individual, so I mentally noted how much meat was on the spit, prior to ordering. I'm almost certain this was racially motivated. Why was every white customer given priority over me, when being served? I'm he tried covering his bigoted tracks, but unfortunately was unsuccessful. I hear the younger fry cook explain that he never even got my ticket! The order taker hid my ticket behind others just to make me wait. Pathetic. There was no apology issued. No one took any accountability for this action. I was simply left feeling unwanted and inferior. As a newly relocated local they can forget about my business or that of my associates. Having been seduced by the sirens song of late nite spots offering "food" that would normally induce retching in those of full and clear hearts, the silence here is deafening. Hark wicker parkians! There are few places on division with edible offerings during normal hours. That this spot offers mana until 2 on Fridays is far more than we deserve. Dudes who work here are really nice. Food is pretty rad, too. Pretty awesome place if you're feeling too lazy to make the walk over to Falafel and Grill. It's also slightly cheaper than that place, too, which is cool. A bit of advice, though: Better off ordering the sandwich instead of the full dinner plate. This goes for most shawarma places. You just end up paying more for pretty much the same amount of food, except now it's all spread out in on a plate instead of wrapped up in bread. Just get the sandwich. Get two sandwiches. I recently moved into the area and I've been here several times and it's always reliable! Personally, I'd rate this place closer to a 3.5 stars, but last time when I ordered the soup, they were out, but they upgrade me to the fries for no extra charge (by the way they were AWESOME). So because of that, I give it a 4 star. I've gotten the gyro and the chicken shawarma and both were solid picks. Get the lentil soup! If there's one criticism I have of the place is that the food takes awhile to make and sometimes even when you order online or call for pick up, you have to wait another 10-15 mins to get your food. read more

I also have been working in the food industry for nearly a decade. came here around 6:30pm this past Wednesday. ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich. felt uneasy within an hour. diarrhea for the next two days. the only other food item I consumed this day was plain white toast about 7 am that morning. I am confident I suffered from food poisoning due to eating here. Went back today to let the guy behind the counter know and he wasn't very concerned stating no on else said anything, basically shrugging me off. Food was just meh. I've had way better. I don't eat tortured meat (factory farmed) and they don't advertise free range, healthy meat so I assumed it's tortured.
