My fav dish was the lamb- it was so tender and fell right off the bone. The chicken in the couscous was tender but the couscous itself was too salty. Walked in on a Saturday evening at 6:30 PM. There was nobody in the restaurant at this time. There was only one server serving the entire restaurant, but he managed! The service was amazing. The food was very good and everybody enjoyed every meal that we ordered. We go as a group so everybody ordered an appetizer and a meal and everybody shared and sampled everybody else's food and there was not one thing that Anybody didn't like. Overall Thoughts: I had high hopes for this homey family-owned restaurant, but was a bit disappointed in the duller flavors of the dishes. Taste is personal, but I would've preferred the flavors and spices to have been more robust and vibrant. Additionally, I felt the prices were quite high for the portions; for 2 people, it was ~$40 pp. While we were full afterwards, it was more so due to all the pita bread they provided with each dish; the dishes themselves were kind of small. The service was also pretty slow (took ~2 hours from start to finish), but the owner and son working there were both super sweet and friendly. Judging from all the good reviews, I'm hoping that they were just having an off-day when I went. I was between 3 and 4 stars, but gave it a 4 as I'd still be willing to give it another try in the future. Food I tried: - Marrakech Deal Appetizer (Zalook, Taktouka, Carrots Ala Chermoula, and Bakoula) (4.4/5): This was among my favorite dishes from what we ordered. I especially liked the zalook (smokey, charred eggplant flavors), bakoula, and taktouka salads. - Moroccan mint tea kettle (4/5): The mint tea was pretty good. We asked for sugar on the side but they put it in, which was not a big deal. It's pricey for the serving though-- just 2 small glasses each for $10. - Marrakech in Tagine (3.5/5): I was kind of confused here because the dish didn't come with any of the ingredients listed on the menu (i.e. the tomatoes, olives, etc.) except for the fries and lamb shank. Although the fries were very tasty and crispy, the other veggies were sorely needed to balance out the flavors and textures which eventually got too dry / salty. The lamb was very tender with the meat falling off the bone, but overall, its flavor was mild and I wish it were more flavorful. - Harira Soup (3/5): This was a super small soup for $8, which felt overpriced. First of all, the service was top notch. It's a relatively smaller place and there was 1 waiter and younger assistant, who seemed to be in training. The place was mostly empty for 8pm on a weekday so everything was fairly quick. I started with the small hummus, which was tasty but I believe needed a little more citrus but the quality and presentation was great. It was served with fresh made pita bread, which was perfect! For my entree I got the chicken kebab. It was served with vegetables and either rice or couscous. I chose rice, which was pretty standard. The worst part of the meal were the veggies. I think it was just a bag of frozen mixed veggies. They lacked any seasoning and the peas were tough while the rest of the vegetables were soggy. The chicken kebab itself was well seasoned, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious! It was served with 2 sauces, a red and white. The red had a bit of a spicy kick and the white tasted like a garlicky yogurt sauce. Both sauces were amazing! Wow! This family run place is delicious! We live in the area and have wanting to stop by and try. The space is cute on the inside. The service was chill and our server was super nice! These were the FRESHEST dolma I have ever had. So good. The roasted red pepper dip was really flavorful. We had the soup and wowsers! The flavor! It tasted fresh, homemade and authentic. Marrakech is a nice spot and definitely hits the spot when you're looking for warm, comforting Moroccan food. Ambiance was O.K. I think some extra throw pillows and lamps could make a world of difference. We tried the Dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), The Marrakech Deal, Lamb Couscous and Mint Tea. There wasn't anything I didn't like. The lamb was falling apart and very tender. The sampler dips (Marrakech Deal) is a must in my opinion because it was almost impossible to choose between all the options (and they were all delicious). The server was really nice! However, it did seem to take a little while to get simple things like extra pita or our first course despite it not being too busy. IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO MARRAKECH YET WHAT'RE YOU DOING!!! I've only had two "5-star-hyper-fixation-recommend-it-to-everyone-I-meet" restaurants of 2022 and this is one of them. I've literally never had moroccan food before this but somehow it made me really nostalgic in a ratatouille kind of way. Something about the couscous and caramelized veggies and stewed meat is just homey and cozy and exactly what you want with the upcoming winter. It's so perfectly comforting without being too heavy and you don't feel gross afterwards. Also, the restaurant is obviously a mom and pop and the owners are so kind and caring. Authentic Moroccan restaurant in West town - the ambience is simple but lots of Moroccan decoration and the music makes you feel you left Chicago and entered Marrakech. The food is delicious, great blend of spices, tagine is a hit, eggplant in tomato sauce was our favorite from starters, hummus was delicious and tasty. The service was a bit slow and the waiter never checked on us after we started our meal if everything was ok and if we needed more water. I googled Moroccan restaurants in Chicago and this Resteraunt came up. We were able to get reservations the same day. I have to say that it is extremely rare to find Moroccan restaurants that have authentic Moroccans actually cooking because the food is so hard to make and so time consuming. The harrira soup tasted like my grandmothers, the lamb couscous was so fresh and to die for and the mixed salad platter was heavenly but the bread and the Moroccan mint tea were the most delicious and they even brought out complimentary dessert. I wouldn't recommend any other Moroccan restaurant than Marakesh I'm Chicago and I cannot wait to visit Chicago to come back. If you're expecting fast food or big sweaty cooks at an open grill, this isn't the place for you. If you're ready for some authentic, cook-to-order homemade Moroccan cuisine in a quaintly decorated restaurant, you've found just the place. We came in with no expectations, even got a little impatient while waiting for the food, but then had the most pleasant surprise once we took our first bite. The Moroccan mint tea wasn't just a pretty pot, it was fragrant without being overpowering, sweet but not cloying, flavorful but subtle. The seafood pastilla appetizer was a rich medley of fresh seafood wrapped in perfectly crispy phyllo pastry. The mixed grill contained a plate of well-seasoned meat that perfectly complimented the star of the show - couscous. I honestly never thought much of couscous ever until I had it here. Then came the veggie tagine. Make no mistake, it is NOT vegetarian. It's a slow-cooked fall-off-the-bone lamb shank with some vegetables just so you can pretend to feel healthy. Needless to say, we cleared all our plates. We had a really nice chat with the owner after our meal, where he reminisced his younger years growing up in Casablanca, boasted about his capable wife (aka executive chef of the restaurant) and hardworking son (aka our server), and showed us tea and couscous that they use, imported straight from Morocco. They just recently opened during the pandemic, so they are still pretty quiet. Definitely come support them so I can continue to have amazing Moroccan food in my neighborhood! This place is so great. This is just as good as Moroccan food I've had in Morocco or Paris. This place is run by a lovely family whose mother is the cook. We had the appetizer sampler, a tagine, and a couscous. Meat on all the dishes is incredibly soft and falls off the bone. The tagine sauce was so good - one of the best things I've ever had. Couscous has large savory vegetables including squash and was finished with a sweet sauce containing apricots and rasins. I'm already thinking about what to order next time. read more

On a Friday evening, we decided to try a new restaurant and Marrakech fit the bill. We were a bit reluctant because the view from outside didn't look too attractive but, OMG.... I'm so glad we gave it a go... Interior decor - 10. Super cute, very authentic, we felt like we were in an Instagram story; living it up in Morocco. Service - 10. I cannot emphasize this enough... this is a local, family owned business. Dad is the host, son helps with service and mom cooks. You will feel the love, you will see the hustle and you will feel like the guest of honor at their home. Food - 10. Unbelievably fresh, tasty and unique. Moroccan food is so complex - think about it as a mixture of native, African, French, Spanish, Middle Eastern food... try chicken pastilla and lamb tagine. Family run - the owner, son, wife do everything! Wife cooks with maybe her mom or husband's mom ? Super generous and friendly. My only points are atmosphere - the west side of the restaurant has NO light. So feels kind of gloomy. They need to figure out lighting besides the little candles. It's just a big difference from one side of the restaurant to the other side (and it's just 1 room). I also didn't like the BYOB charge - $10. We brought a nice $30 bottle from Lush right by there. Just seemed a bit high for corkage fee (byob charge). Also - they put bottle waters (cheap flimsy reg. plastic water bottles COSTCO style) when you sit down. Not sure why that is vs. reg. tap water. Then they add $2 a bottle to your tab. I think that's not cool - we did ask for tap water (my friend missed Chicago H2O). So I can't confirm they charge you for the water - but it is on the menu. read more

We had warm pita and a sample platter of appetizers (exploding with flavor). I ordered the chicken tagine and my fiancé ordered the lamb couscous. Both were delicious. We ran into this hidden gem while walking around looking for restaurants. We decided to walk in and we were greeted and welcomed by this young man named Adam. He was very kind, professional, and knowledgeable about the food on the menu. He recommended us the "Lamb Couscous" and let me say that the way he described the plate made us even more hungry and excited to taste it!! GREAT JOB ADAM!! The food was so tasty we kept looking at each other and saying "This is very good!!" We loved everything about this place from the decorations to the music and mainly the foood!! At the end of our visit we had the pleasure to meet the owner that made us feel even more welcomed and nice enough to offer us free appetizers that was delicious! It's really unfortunate this place was a let down. I went there a couple of weeks back on a Friday night and no one was there. But the food took forever to come out and was extremely subpar. Even a good friend of mine from Morroco said this is not real Moroccan food. Even for Middle Eastern food it was subpar. The price was also very high for the extremely lackluster food. The only nice part was the owner (I believe) came out to greet us at the end. I wish the place was better since it's a few blocks from my home but it's just honestly very bad.
