Vegetarian platter and doro wat
Eric L.

Very authentic flavors. The photo shows a vegetarian platter with the Doro Wat in the center. Even though it was two entrees, the way they plated made it feel like a vegetarian platter with a side of Doro Wat. The portion size of the Doro Watdidn't quite meet my expectations. Other than that, everything was seasoned beautifully.

Just had the most amazing lunch at Michuu Restaurant We went all in -- zil zil tibs, lamb tibs, doro wat, veggie combo, plus crispy sambusa to start. But the real moment was the traditional Ethiopian coffee and tea... one sip and I was back home Delicious food, warm hospitality, full heart. #MichuuRestaurant #EthiopianCuisine #HabeshaFood #ChicagoFoodie

We visited Michuu on a Saturday night and had made a reservation. The food was amazing. We had a family of 5 adults. We had some sambusas both beef and lentil. They were fresh hot and delicious. We had 2 orders of the veggie combos for 1. We also got the Zil - Zil Tibs (beef) Doro Wat (chicken and egg) and the Yebeg Tibs (lamb). I know we are hogs but also took a lot home. They arranged all of that in the picture attached so we could easily share it all. The Yebeg Tibs was the most tender and delicious lamb I have ever had regardless of type of restaurant. Everything was fantastic. I have been to 3 Ethiopian restaurants and have made a few dishes myself. This was by far the best! The time to prepare and cook our meal must have been a lot, but we sure appreciate it. The chef/owner even helped wait tables. We look to coming back!

One of the best Ethiopian spots in the city! The service was warm and friendly, and the food was phenomenal. Both the beef and lentil Sambusa were amazing. We loved the Injera with Yebeg Tibs (spicy lamb, incredibly well-seasoned) and the veggie combo (especially the lentils, collard greens, and chickpeas). We will definitely be coming back!

Michuu Ethiopian's cuisine is scratch-made with love!! "Wow, wow, wow!" Michuu opened in early May, and there Lemu cooks the way she learned as a girl. She makes everything from scratch. Her vegetarian spreads are fresh and vibrant: berbers-spiced lentils, chopped collards; or imperial, purple-colored beets. Ours surrounded large portions of chicken perfectly spiced Honestly, this is the best Ethiopian food I've ever had, and I've had an awful since this is my favorite cuisine!!

Terrible experience. Service: 0/5 Ambiance: 0/5 Food: 3/5 My partner and I were so excited to try this restaurant, as we love Ethiopian food. We ordered one drink and the vegetarian platter as well as Doro Wat (chicken dish). The drink never came even though we asked multiple times. There were no napkins on the table. We asked multiple times for napkins since your hands get very dirty eating Ethiopian. They finally came the third time I asked, but it was too late since we already finished the meal. Side plates never came either even though we asked twice. The food had good flavor but half of the vegetarian dishes were cold, though they've been served at every other Ethiopian restaurant we have been to. We had a 25% Entertainment Book coupon that the server refused to accept. He stated it had to be used during the week, we came on a Sunday, though the coupon didn't state that anywhere in the fine print. After going back and forth with the server he agreed to give us 10% off. Needless to say, we will not be coming back to this establishment as there are many other Ethiopian restaurants on the city that have much better food and actually provide service.

We had an amazing dinner at Michuu. We got the veggie/vegan combo for 2 (pictured). Their injera is also 100% teff and gluten free, which can be hard to find. I think this is one of the best Ethiopian food and injera I've ever had (and I've been to places all over the country). The service was also outstanding, very friendly and even offered us some delicious honey wine to try!

Reviews are largely positive. Diners praise the fresh, flavorful food, excellent gluten-free injera, and friendly, helpful service. The welcoming atmosphere and unique tea and coffee offerings also stand out.

The food was absolutely delicious and tasted incredibly fresh. It struck the perfect balance of being healthy while still being satisfying. We ordered a platter that didn't look like it would be very filling at first, but it was more than enough food. I would definitely recommend Demera to anyone looking to try Ethiopian cuisine, whether it's your first time or you're already a fan. If you're planning a date night in Uptown, this is a great place to start the evening, then head across the street to the Green Mill for live jazz and cocktails. It makes for a fun night out!

The spicing is not shy, the meats are good, but as is so often true the vegetables are the star. The yellow lentils and the collard greens are probably my favorites. The spiced tea is good too. The service was adequate but neglectful, the QR-ification of the menus annoys me. And if we were in Washington DC or something we could have nice debates about how this place rates against many excellent competitors, but in Chicago I will just say that it is good, and if you like Ethiopian food you will come here sometimes.

I'm sure you can get silverware cutlery if you asked but I was able to just use the leftover mini spoon from the sambusa sauce. Everyone else at the table did just get the food with the injera bread. Namely,…read morethe food you're getting is probably not going to be the best version of what the restaurant is and the price will definitely be on the higher end. Demera is no exception to that. I've dined at their regular brick and mortar restaurant and also have eaten plenty of Ethiopian restaurants when I used to live in the DC area. For me, the food here is a a little below what you'd get at the regular location, and for $18 for the combo, it definitely feels a bit lacking on quantity. But that's the thing with dining out at Timeout Market. You don't go here expecting to have an amazing meal. Especially when you're in the west loop with so many great spots. You dine here because you're with picky and/or indecisive eaters and you're just trying to hangout and eat some food. There's so many vendors here there's a little something for everyone even if it's not the best version of it. And so for that, I can't really fault Demera since it was still a solid meal. The meat combo was well seasoned (I prefer the chicken over the beef if you were to pick one), the mushroom tibs was fine, I enjoyed what I got.

Look, I can't go to a restaurant as much as I have Den Den and not drop a review. I've eaten here…read moredozens and dozens of times, so here I am, giving the credit I should've given months ago. Full disclosure, I get the exact same thing every time I order: veggie combo. And the word that comes to mind most clearly when I think of the veggie combo is "satisfying." I know "satisfying" isn't inherently over-the-top or explosive, but it fits. Is it cold out and I want something hearty and filling? Den Den. Looking for a healthy meal, loaded with fresh vegetables? Den Den. Under the weather, and want food that's warm and easy on the body and soul? Den Den. A platter with a lot going on, different textures and flavors, and just flat-out tasty? You guessed it. Fancy restaurants are fun, and trying new food is a passion for me. But when it comes to a restaurant I visit again and again, I want that overwhelming feeling of satisfaction, and that's exactly what I find on this plate. The veggie combo has potatoes, lentils, onions, cabbage, greens, and more, plus their hot sauce adds an extra level that goes with literally everything. If you're not familiar with Eritrean food, I recommend you get to it. It's close to Ethiopian but different, and frankly, I like the injera here a bit better than Ethiopian, as it seems a little less sour. The couple that owns Den Den are lovely. The restaurant is calm and simple, letting the food do the talking. The woman who seems to run the ship is so kind, always asking how my wife is doing or if I need coffee. She once shared Himbasha with me, my first. I mostly get to-go, and as far as I can tell, it's a call-in and pick-up situation. No DoorDash, GrubHub, etc. It's the old-fashioned way, which is fine by me, and my wife and I try to dine in whenever we can. Chicago has some of the best restaurants in the country, but they don't all have to be Michelin-starred or dressed up in buildings worth millions with decor to match. I like a restaurant with heart, roots, and a kitchen that gives me the satisfying head nod only an incredible plate of food can. I love eating out, especially trying new cuisines and restaurants. But ask my wife what her favorite restaurant in Chicago is, and she will tell you about Den Den without hesitation. They share their culture with the community through their recipes and warm service, and for me, that beats the new hot spot in town almost any day of the year. Chicago is extremely lucky to have them.

We had leftovers of course because it's such a generous portion but the leftovers still sparked joy. Definitely recommend this place and the service was great.
