I would come back here just for the focaccia is was AMAZINGGGG!!! The truffle whipped ricotta that came with it was the star of the show, we ordered extra to put on our pizza crust. Another highlight was the arugula salad which came with pickled roasted grapes. Sounds weird, but it was SUCH a good and flavor topping to the salad and paired perfectly with the salty savory almonds and cheese. Honestly the pizza was just okay to me. The crust was great and perfectly cooked, but overall I thought it lacked flavor (hence why we needed to top it with the truffle whipped ricotta). The pasta was pretty good but didn't have as much of a rich pesto flavor as I would have preferred. I did really like this place as a whole & would go back to try other menu items!!
I truly love Coda Di Volpe. The outdoor atmosphere off of Southport is special. It's the perfect local Italian spot to fuse the Lakeview/Southport community. Indoor atmosphere and bar is also fabulous. The Spaghetti Limone, that they've been running this summer, is actually one the best pastas I've ever had. I think about it several times a day. I hope they never take it off the menu. The Paccheri Calabrese and Torchetti Cacio e pepe are also fantastic pastas. The Margherita pizza is good as well as the Tartufo. Sometimes their pie's can run a little watery in the middle. I've found the less toppings the better. For two, any white sauce pasta and a red sauce pizza or vice versa (red pasta x white pizza) is all you need. Service can be a little spotty, so go on a night when you've got time. Perfect for a relaxed dinner outside.
Was really excited to try this spot after successfully managing to get a reservation after a few weeks of trying. We ended up dining earlier after putting our name in for a spot on the patio. I love the ambiance here, it's cleanly decorated but still manages to feel inviting and comfortable. The patio is cute and doesn't feel overwhelming even with the street nearby. Service was a bit slow when we first were seated, it took a while to get our drink order placed and then to receive the drinks (appetizer arrived before drinks). It was quite busy at this point and as the crowd thinned the service did pick up. I have a gluten allergy and felt like our server took it very seriously. He graciously explained what on the menu was safe for me to eat. The highlight for me was the sea salt and wild oregano focaccia. The bread was light and airy, didn't taste gluten free to me, and was delicious paired with the whipped ricotta and truffle gremolata. The truffle flavor was just enough and didn't overpower the whole dish. I ordered the tagliolini all'amalfitana as my main. It was good, not great. I have no real complaints it just didn't wildly impress me. It felt a little bland, the most prominent flavor was the lemon zest it was topped with. The rest of my group ordered the tartufo pizza to share and we're very complimentary. To drink I had the stolen vespa which was a nicely balanced tequila based drink. I tried a sip of the Hugo's vacation slushie cocktail and enjoyed how light and refreshing it was. Overall, I would be willing to give Coda di Volpe another chance with a different order because I love the atmosphere and would be curious to try some of the other foods to see if I can find something more memorable.
Honestly? I already know I'll be coming back here again soon. If Coda Di Volpe has been on your radar, this is your sign to just make the reservation already. We came here for a girls night out with a reservation for three and had such a great time. We sat inside and the interior was beautiful, but there was also plenty of outdoor seating available. For drinks, we ordered the cin cin espresso martini, Hugo's Vacation, witches brew, and rosé. Everything was well made, although I do think the cocktails were on the smaller side considering they were priced around $15-$18. For food, we ordered the Spicy Tagliolini di Granchio (definitely has a kick, but the crab is deshelled), Rigatoni Con Ragu, and the Chicken Diavola. The chicken was especially good for anyone who loves Mike's Hot Honey. It was a huge portion with crispy potatoes underneath and super saucy without actually being too spicy. All the food and drinks were tasty, but I definitely need to try the giant focaccia bread and Neapolitan-style pizza next time. They have this massive oven in the back that was imported from Italy, which was really cool to see.
Nice place--some stand out apps were the arancini and the special which was a sashimi. Arugula salad was very good. We had some great dishes (the branzino was to die for) and some duds (the spicy pasta with crab--hardly any crab and no lemon flavor either. The peach salad was one of my favorites and full of flavor, and really filling for an appetizer. The bread is incredible and the whipped ricotta had flavor I've not had before. The highlight for me was the pizza that you get to cut with scissors! That sauce had a tang that I dream about. Overall one of my favorite meals I've had in the city. And the service was so wonderful too!
I booked Coda di Volpe through Resy for my birthday and had high expectations. The restaurant printed "Happy Birthday" with my name on the menu, which made me hopeful for a thoughtful experience. Unfortunately, the evening fell far short. The rigatoni lacked depth and flavor -- at places like Tre Dita or Ciccio Mio, a bite of pasta feels intentional and satisfying, but here it felt flat and forgettable. There was also a stray piece of a different pasta mixed into the rigatoni. When I pointed it out, the response was that the pasta is made in-house and must have gotten mixed in, followed by asking if the entire dish was like that. The response felt minimizing and missed the point -- it made the experience feel sloppy, not thoughtful. When we asked for crushed red pepper to help with the flavor, we were given a very small amount to share between two people. The wine service felt inconsistent. The majority of nearby tables had proper stemmed wine glasses -- including the table next to us who ordered the same wine by the glass -- yet we were given stemless tumblers. When I asked, I was told stemmed glasses are only provided if requested or when ordering a bottle. That explanation didn't align with what we saw around us and felt like a justification rather than a real explanation. The glass we received felt more like something you'd drink from at home, not what you'd expect at a restaurant at this price point. The lack of standardization made the experience feel less polished. The "special" focaccia was especially disappointing -- more like a dry, cardboard-like flatbread than anything worth the price. During service, a server's coat fell onto the dish as it was being delivered, and the server described the pasta as "beautiful," which didn't match the reality of the dish. The espresso martini was extremely bitter and not enjoyable. The complimentary birthday gelato, offered only after I raised a concern, was also disappointing -- it appeared to be a fruit flavor, but it was so bland that neither of us could identify it and we left it after one bite. Between the food, drinks, service, and overall execution, the experience felt inconsistent and unpolished rather than celebratory or well-executed. The space is attractive and lively, but we left disappointed and ended up going elsewhere to salvage the evening.
Coda Di Volpe is definitely a must visit. I placed an order online and the pizza was ready by the promised time. The pick up window is on the side of the building. The restaurant itself was packed and so was the pick up window. I ordered their Margherita Pizza and their Spicy Pepperoni from the Foxhole. Both pizzas were delicious but their Spicy Pepperoni was definitely my favorite. It came with mozzarella, red sauce, Calabrian chilli paste and pepperoni on a square cut Sicilian style pizza. I will definitely be returning very soon.
This is one of my fav Italian places! Cute little place with great pizza and even better pasta!my favorite pasta is the crab malfadine. I could eat it every day. Also family friendly. Good service.
All the food was so fresh and flavorful. Service was great. Can't wait to go back and try more options. The focaccia was delicious and the crab pasta was one of my favorite pasta dishes I've had.
SO GOOD. Best Neapolitan pizza in Chicago. Spacca Napoli is a close second. Thinnest slices ever you can cut them with scissors. Made a reservation for 5:30 on a Wednesday and they still had a good amount of seating open. We opted to sit outside because it was such a nice summer day. Ordered the margherita and nerano pizzas, and the paccheri calabrese pasta. Pasta came first and it was amazing. Perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful and clung to the pasta very well. Lots of sauce left over (which is what I like to see) that we could dip the pizza crusts in later. Margherita was a classic. Nerano was so unique. Never had zucchini flowers on pizza before and the white sauce was superb. Super generous portions of everything the three of us were all very full but in a good way. Also loved drizzling chili olive oil over the pizza to give them a little kick. Service was great and the outdoor seating area was super cute. Will definitely be back to try their other dishes!
We came for an early dinner in Labor Day and had a great meal. There was no wait either, but it was busy. So make a reservation if you're a bigger party. We both got the lavender lemonade, and shared the arancini and rigatoni. Everything was awesome. The arancini comes in a creamy green sauce, and has corn in it which I've never seen before. Either way, it was divine. Then we shared the rigatoni, which was also great. We were told the portion is big, so they split it for us. Would love to try more when I'm in town again.
I extensively researched where to eat near Lakeview East for a group of eight. Our daughter was coming to town from Denver to celebrate her 28th birthday with friends, whom all live in the area. We drove from Cincinnati to meet her. From the first time I called to make a reservation for a large party to the re-scheduling to the following weekend due to a death in the family, the girl(s) on the phone could not be more professional and accommodating. I was told they would make it work but we might have to sit outside as the 8-top already had a reservation for Oct. 17th. However, when we arrived, we were seated right away at an 8-top inside. Our server, Viridiana, was so great and took very good care of us. As the plethora of drink orders came at her, she was cool as a cucumber and delivered the drinks, and the continuation of drinks throughout the night, with accuracy. She chuckled when I handed her my phone with our entire party's order and said "This is awesome. Are you in the service industry?" No, we are just foodies with an understanding of how hard it is to take care of a large group, and any little bit helps. Our pizzas and apps came out quickly, followed by all the pastas. We took a vote and here were the favorites dishes of the night: The Corn and Truffle Arancini, Fagioli Fritti, Sea Salt Focaccia, Spicy Mafaldine (!!!) Bucatini add meatballs, Rigatoni con Ragu, and all of the pizzas. The only dish we all didn't love was the Cacio e Pepe. They gave us a complimentary large Lemon Sundae for the birthday! That was a perfect bite for us all to share to end the evening. I will recommend Coda Di Volpe to everyone I know who is going to be in the area, and when we visit again, they will be the first reservation we make. Ciao!
I feel there's a big difference between good (4-star) and great (5-star) review ratings. I have no reservations giving Coda Di Volpe a five-star review. We had appetizers, meals and desserts. Lots to review; all good. Peaches n' Crema - burrata pugliese, spiced honey, piccolo cucumber, pistachio, mint. This app was delightful in every way. It was sweet and savory in a unique way. Octopus Carpaccio Siciliano - peperoncino, orange, oreganata, caper. If a restaurant has octopus on the menu, I get it. This was the most unusual preparation of octopus I've seen. It was sliced thin like carpaccio (it's not only in the name, our server also made it clear before I ordered). All the ingredients worked together to deliver a nice flavor. It was good, but I lost the taste of octopus in it. Still, it was very good. Wood Roasted Meatballs - beef & pork, pomodoro, wild oregano, parmigiano vecchio. It was a three-meatball appetizer. I got to try a bit and it was wonderful! I tasted just a bit of fennel, one of my favorite spices in Italian food. Mark was able to save one to add to his pasta. Tagliolini All'amalfitana - clams, prawns, calamari, vermentino, cherry tomatoes, parsley. Our friend ordered this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bucatini Siccagno Pomodoro - siccagno tomato siciliano, garlic, basil; simple and delicious. As I mentioned, Mark added a meatball from the appetizer. I believe they can be ordered with the meal, which I heartily recommend. Paccheri Calabrese - n'duja pork ragu, san marzano tomato, peperoncini, parmigiano vecchio. SO delicious! I loved the flattened pasta. It was a lot of food. I didn't think I'd finish, but I most certainly did. Again, highly recommended. For dessert - Tiramisu. Our friend found it a bit dry. It was the lowest point of the meal, but not low enough to lower my review. Our friend mentioned it may have been day-old, but there's no way to tell. My hope is this dessert is generally moist and delectable. I suggest checking with your server to get a sense of what to expect. Mark and I both had Marscapone and Hazelnut Gelati. I felt it was a good size portion for the $6 price, which was reasonable. All desserts came with house-made biscotti. The gelati was fantastic. I found a chocolate chunk inside reminiscent of the chips in Graeter's ice cream (IYKYK). Our server was pleasant, helpful and a delight. If we lived in Chicago, we'd come back regularly. read more
My partner & I have spent our last two anniversary dinners here- Coda Di Volpe is the absolute best for a special occasion. They even printed our names on the menu with a happy anniversary message which we loved. Service is always top notch, and I love sitting on the patio when the weathers nice. On to the food.. Their focaccia is one of my favorites in the city (maybe anywhere?). We also absolutely love the funghi pizza and have gotten it on both occasions. Other items we tried were the arugula salad with shrimp (yummy light & refreshing starter) & spicy tagliolini di granchio (not too spicy or heavy). The tiramisu was great to top it all off! In my opinion, you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Hoping to go back soon to try the tartufo pizza! read more
Such a great dinner at Coda di Volpe! We ordered the Wood Roasted Meatballs, Spicy Mafaldine di Granchio, Grilled Branzino, and finished with the Tiramisu. Everything was delicious, but the standout of the night was definitely the grilled branzino. It comes served as a whole fish with the bones in. Honestly, eating a whole fish with a fork and knife was slightly tricky and made me secretly wish I had chopsticks, but it was so worth the effort! It is genuinely rare to find a non Chinese restaurant that prepares whole fish this well. The skin was nicely charred and the meat was super tender and flavorful. The meatballs, crab pasta, and tiramisu were also great. I will definitely be coming back just for that fish! read more

Coda di Volpe is a neighborhood gem in Lakeview that does Italian right. The highlight of my meal was the bucatini with meatballs -- perfectly al dente pasta with tender, flavorful meatballs that felt both hearty and comforting. The buffalo mozzarella was another standout, fresh and creamy with that rich tang you hope for. I also tried the prosciutto pizza -- the flavors were spot on, but the crust could use a little more structure. The undercarriage was soft, which made it a bit difficult to eat, and left the overall bite a touch soggy. Still tasty, just could be improved with a crisper base. Overall, a very good experience. Great atmosphere, solid service, and dishes that really showcase the kitchen's strengths. With just a little refinement on the pizza crust, this would easily be a five-star spot. read more

Best Italian spot in the Lakeview area! Service is attentive and ambience is great for a special occasion. We tried a few different pizzas and pastas and they were all great - my favorite was the mafaldine with lemon/crab, which is fresh and light. Portions are pretty small but worth for the price. read more

My husband and I came in to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary and it turned out he made the reservation for the wrong date (oops). The hostess was so sweet and understanding, she got us champagne while we waited and not even 10 minutes later she found us a great table (and it was a busy night!). We've been going to Coda for 2 years now, we absolutely love their pizza (I always say it truly brings me back to Italy). This time I tried the new lemon spaghetti and it was so light and delicious. Their cocktails are amazing too. 100/10 experience every. single. time!!! read more
We had reservations for a Monday evening and were seated right away on the patio. Service was quick and attentive, which set the tone for a great night. For drinks, I ordered the Lady Lavender, light, floral, and the perfect refreshing summer cocktail, while my husband went with a beer. To start, we had the sea salt and wild oregano focaccia, which is an absolute must-try. The bread was warm and flavorful, and pairing it with the whipped ricotta was heavenly. One of my favorite places in the Southport Corridor! The service is always quick, easy, and the servers are always so kind. We opted into getting the cacio e pepe, focaccia, their summer salad, and tiramisu. The starters of the focaccia and summer burrata salad were delicious! The bread was so soft and fluffy and perfectly salted. The Summer salad was so so fresh and hit the spot with all the flavors coming together. The Cacio e pepe is one of my favorite cacio e pepe's I have ever tried in Chicago. The noodles soak up every bit of the sauce perfectly. We have gotten the pizza's in the past and I promise you can't go wrong with what you pick. The rigatoni ragu is also very good with season and the pork sausage is super flavorful. The tiramisu was on the sweeter side for me which I don't love, but I can see why others would really like it! The wine list is fantastic. The cocktails and mocktails are also made well. Fun Fact: they have a "to go " window called the foxhole where you can get foccacio + square cut pizzas to go! They have tons of space that's kid friendly and a fantastic patio. read more

Score is heavily carried by the value, pistachio pizza, and tiramisu. The lack of structural integrity in the undercarriage was quite disappointing. Not a big fan of pizza that disintegrates as you go further in. The pistachio pizza held it together better, prob due to lack of sauce. Was quite enjoyable actually. Good flavors. The sausage pizza however deconstructed real quick hence the 44/50 ranking of pizza in the US. Focaccia was solid, prob hard to mess up and Tiramisu was delightful. A bit too mascarpone-y but there are worse things. read more
Fantastic Italian restaurant in the heart of Wrigleyville. They have stone oven pizzas that are fantastic and the homemade pastas are even better. They have a nice variety of drinks with a few local brews on tap. We went for a birthday celebration and the staff customized the menu to add a "happy birthday" top left. They even brought out a dessert with a sparkler so we could all sing happy birthday. Highly recommended! read more
Our second visit, we discovered the restaurant last spring. A really outstanding experience! This time we were in the beautiful dining room (last spring sat on the patio). We just did a walk in immediately at opening, after shopping in the area. Upscale, sophisticated but welcoming. Gorgeous bar, which filled quickly. Love the cozy semi-circular booths for groups of 4-6. We were in a table for 2 by the window. Our server was great, friendly, attentive & very very knowledgeable about the food & the wine. We shared the Delicata Squash, which was outstanding & unlike anything we've had before. Presentation on it was just beautiful (look at my picture!). Better shared by 3 or even 4, but the 2 of us ate it all. We shared the Pizza Mortadella e Pistachio. We had asked our server what were his personal favorites--he said it was difficult but named 3. It was wonderful! They give you some large scissors & you cut it as you go so that the crust stays crispy. We also shared the Cacio e Pepe--yum! A little too much food but everything was so good! Great cocktails, nice wine list. Our server gave us a great recommendation that complemented our food. It is just a really wonderful experience, great staff, beautiful surroundings, wonderful food. Sandwich Rating: 4.3/5. Coda Di Volpe's Spicy Panuzzo Sandwich is incredible. They use their delicious, widely loved pizza dough as the bread, and it elevates the whole sandwich to the next level. They only offer sandwiches on weekends during lunch. I would 100% recommend giving it a try it. Service & Ambiance (Lunchtime): 5/5. The space is bright and welcoming, with big windows that let in tons of natural light. Service was excellent as always - friendly, attentive, and on point. read more

I have to agree with most reviews that the pizza here is exceptionally good! We ordered the tartufo and the flavors were perfect! The pasta that we ordered was with sausage ( Rigatoni con Ragu ) and that was below average. I'd definitely go back for the pizza! read more

Worth all the hype! I adore a heaping bowl of pasta, and the quality and flavors are stellar. I also like the decor and it's an intimate setting that doesn't get too loud even with the hustle and bustle. The staff were all very nice and accommodating, 10/10 recommend! We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday because they have good gluten-free options for my celiac girlfriend. As an appetizer, we split a gluten-free margarita focaccia bread/pizza. I'm sure it could've been a meal on its own. My girlfriend enjoyed the gluten-free pasta as well. I had the super diavola pizza. Originally I wasn't going to get a pizza but I saw that they are nationally renowned and everybody's pizza around me just looked so good. It was fantastic with a thinner crust and packed full of flavor. The service here was great. They were very attentive and quick to assuage any concerns about gluten cross-contamination. My girlfriend felt very safe eating here and it made for a lovely date night. read more

I definitely feel like this spot is underrated. After going it has risen in rank to one of my fave Italian spots in the city. We sat on the patio and it was a beautiful night especially with the string lights they hang really giving it that cozy feel. We got the spaghetti and meatballs and the soppresatta pizza and everything was so delicious. You can really tell that the pasta is homemade and was cooked perfectly. The pizza was fresh out of the wood fired oven and you could definitely tell it was beyond delicious. We also got the chopped salad to start which was so good to start with, the perfect size for two. Our waitress made it so easy for us to split everything it was an incredible dining experience. read more
