Enjoyed trying the sampler plate at Awash. Thought the quantity of food was a little slim, but I am always a growing boy!

It was my first time having Ethiopian food and it was fantastic! We had great service and the food was awesome. Will be back for sure.

The veggie sampler with Yebeg Tibs Alicha (#31) Perfect to split. :) and one order of Beef Sambusa

So delicious! We ate in the restaurant. Very clean, clean bathrooms. Wonderful friendly staff. Listened to our preferences and made recommendations. Spot on! Highly recommend! Ps. Very random but their water tasted to usually good.. clean, crisp, cold. I know it's weird but, it was great! And they had local (Ethiopian) beer. Great flavor! :)

I forgot the name of the food, but if you are seeing this photograph then the food was that good. My friend group and I came to this restaurant looking for something to eat, and this restaurant epitomizes the diversity that this city provides. If you are not eating at this restaurant yet, you are honestly missing out. The meat was well seasoned. I am totally coming back when I get the chance. If you are reading this review I advise you do the same. Trust me, you will not regret your time eating the food. If you do sit down here, I will say that you will wait a while for the food, so be patient. Other than the wait, the food and place is amazing.

D and I made a rare venture out to the Northside of Chicago on a random Sunday afternoon to satisfy a hankering for Ethiopian. We've only gone to Ethiopian Diamond but D suggested trying a different spot. It was a great suggestion as overall we received great service and delicious food from Awash. There was one server for the whole restaurant but there was only one other table so there wasn't a mad rush. Everything we ordered from the sambusa to the mixed meats and veggies were tasty. Overall we were pleased with Awash and will definitely add them as a place to visit again.

I ordered the spinach sambusas and I got the Gomen with two sides: the red lentils and the yellow lentils. The sambusas were served as a trio and they are a good size, with hefty portions of spinach inside. The problems was that they were heavily overly seasoned. And they were served with a minuscule pink colored dipping sauce which did not pair well with the flavor of these appetizers at all. The njera came wrapped in plastic wrap, which I thought was an interesting choice since plastic doesn't hold heat well. Then I opened my main course and half of the plate is greens. Huge portion. And in the two side dish cups are what appear to look like red soup and yellow soup. The red lentils were very spicy. I'm used to a flavorful spice from Ethiopian red lentils, but these were not enjoyable. The yellow lentils had very little seasoning and the texture was like mashed potatoes. I did not enjoy this meal at all unfortunately.

Went with a group of friend tonight to celebrate making it through another work week. I was pleasantly surprised at the decor. Nice spot...sheik, casually elegant, and classy. Located right across the Green Mill in uptown Demera is in a pretty awesome location. Being a big appetizer guy I went with the Sambussa Sampler to get a taste of all of their varieties. Absolutely delicious! I actually could've just been satisfied with a couple more samplers. Accompanied by a tamarind-like sauce and presented very elegantly. If you love samosas you definitely have to try sambussas! I'm making it a point to get those again. For my main I went with a Tilapia filet dish. So typically I am not a big I fan of Injara but the Injara here was convinced me otherwise. O and btw they also have a GF Injara as well as other GF options. I didn't even expect to but I just couldn't stop eating. I put a killin on everything I ordered. So much I didn't even have room for dessert. And the very attentive and friendly service just made the meal that much better. Glad I discovered a new gem.

I will say, looking at other pics uploaded here, it looks like I got less food than what the other photos of the veggie combo looks like. Maybe it was due to the timing we came in. My Demera Messob combo had injera bread roll which is essentially a sourdough crepe. It was great for scooping up the sauce in the ye-beg wot (lamb) and doro wot (spicy chicken). I think when dining at Timeout Market, a certain set of expectations needs to be in place. Namely,…read morethe food you're getting is probably not going to be the best version of what the restaurant is and the price will definitely be on the higher end. Demera is no exception to that. I've dined at their regular brick and mortar restaurant and also have eaten plenty of Ethiopian restaurants when I used to live in the DC area. For me, the food here is a a little below what you'd get at the regular location, and for $18 for the combo, it definitely feels a bit lacking on quantity. But that's the thing with dining out at Timeout Market. You don't go here expecting to have an amazing meal. Especially when you're in the west loop with so many great spots. You dine here because you're with picky and/or indecisive eaters and you're just trying to hangout and eat some food. There's so many vendors here there's a little something for everyone even if it's not the best version of it. And so for that, I can't really fault Demera since it was still a solid meal. The meat combo was well seasoned (I prefer the chicken over the beef if you were to pick one), the mushroom tibs was fine, I enjoyed what I got.
