This place was a very happy find! In the area, with a large group, looking for a pizza spot and some of us didn't want pizza and this literally was across the street. We bopped in and little to our surprise, it was the best decision we made all day. I got the shawarma bowl with gryo and the garlic sauce fries and wow, everything was to die for. I wish I wasn't just visiting Chicago so this place was more accessible to me everyday. But I fear i'd go broke if this was in my city. This is a great quick lunch option especially if visiting the zoo/park/beach area. Everything felt light, fresh, and healthy. It felt a little pricey for me but it's Chicago so it may be normal so take that as you will but for how delicious and the amazing ingredients it's worth it. Especially that dang pink sauce on the fries....you've got to get the garlic sauce fries if you check this place out. Some of the most beautiful and tasty fries i've ever had! I love coming to Evette's whenever I'm starving. I always get the chicken shawarma bowl because you basically get to try the whole menu! The bowl has a little of everything such as the fries, salad, and couscous. This time I also got the gryos fries because something about their pink sauce makes me inhale the food every time I come here. The fries are definitely on the heavier side, so be careful ordering too much if it's your first time coming here! The service is always quick and easy since the menu isn't freaking huge. Really loved the Haloumi tacos! Something I've never thought to combine before! The shawarma fries were good - the cut of fries were unique and I have never seen that kind of style before. Kinda looks like a potato was cut in half the long way and then sliced in a medium thickness with a mandolin from the way the pieces curl slightly. Something to keep in mind is that there is no bathroom in the restaurant you can use (keep in mind it's a small space overall) BUT the person working was so kind to let me use the sink behind the counter to wash my hands!! Stopped by Evette's after visiting the Green City Farmer's Market with a friend, and it was the perfect spot for a hearty lunch to fuel us for the rest of the day. Wow!!! What an awesome place! I had never heard of Evettes but had a gift card so I picked up some lunch yesterday. It was incredible! I've been blabbing to my friends how in the spring, I can't wait to walk down here and grab lunch again! First thing is first, the staff=amazing! I called to place my order and asked about a billion questions about what was in some of the sauces and salads. I asked what their favorites were and they were so patient and helpful. When I showed up, I was warmly greeted and handed my food. The inside was super cute and they had many covid precautions in place. I ran some errands and an hour later got to eating my lunch and it was outstanding. I'm sure it would have been even better hot but I was thrilled. I got the halloumi and gyro tacos and the whipped feta app. Outstanding!! The tacos were incredible and this red sauce they give you, not sure what it is but I saved it to put on other food! This gem of a place has been here 3 years? As a self proclaimed "foodie" I'm embarrassed that I hadn't hear of nor read any articles regarding this place. My initial reaction while placing my order was "damn this place is expensive". I mean $50 for two orders of fries & 3 tacos seemed excessive however after tasting everything I was quite satisfied. Nothing I had was bad & these are some big & bold flavors that are far from contemporary. Prior to my visit o had no idea what "Halloumi" was but it's damn good. The gyro taco had a spicy but bare-able kick to it. Now on to these fries... At $12 a piece they're not cheap for a mere side but these are far from ordinary & although slightly premature I'm willing to rank them amongst the best fries in all of Chicago. Seriously both the garlic & the sweet potato were that good. I regret not a shake to solidify that everything this place has to offer is amazing but this place should be on everyone list. Stopped by after reading the 2022 NYT list of new restaurants to check out-- but ultimately didn't think this was worth the hype! To start, Evette's had a quaint and hipster vibe to it. The menu is Mediterranean-inspired fast food but with very limited options to choose from. My friend and I both ordered the halloumi plate, which came with a small side salad and couscous. The couscous was incredibly dry and the halloumi was on top of a plate of French fries. The sauce was tasty, but not enough to make this dish stand out by any means. Overall, decent Mediterranean food but not worthwhile to go out of your way for. Not sure what I'm missing here! read more
