Their dutch crunch bread is top notch, their sandwiches are stacked, every ingredient is fresh, and they got chips for days. It's locally owned and operated too, which immediately steals my heart. It's easy as heck to customize the sandwich online and they have tons of meats, cheeses, and toppings to choose from. Extremely reasonably priced too. The service is just unreal. They are so friendly, attentive, and personable. It's such a cute sandwich shop. I always see a line out the door and now I know why! 100% worth the hype. This place needs even more recognition. I ordered the Gobbler and it was delicious! The bread stands out as it was perfectly toasted on the outside. They have a nice selection of optional toppings that you can add on to your sandwich ... next time I'll add some arugula for extra texture. It took approx 10 minutes for the sandwich to come out which was very reasonable during the lunch hour. Super friendly people working inside and I like that part of the proceeds are going towards a good cause! read more

The staff was great about my gluten allergy and assured me it was prepared in a separate area without me even asking. They did forget the pickles I had asked for but no big deal! Was taking a walk with my friend and we wanted to stop for lunch and stumbled upon lunch heroes! We thought the place looks colorful and fun so we decided to try it! The inside is super hero themed and had comics on the walls which was pretty cool. While they do have some indoor seating They have a few small tables outside so we sat outside since the weather was so nice! I got the 6inch mama Mia which was a great sandwich! First off the sandwich was really large and much bigger than I expected. It was great the bread was fresh and not dry or too crumbly like some can be, the condiments weren't too much or little and the meats were stacked high! I feel the cost was worth the sandwhich! The service was great the girl working the counter was very sweet and helpful! The guy that ended up bringing out our order was super nice and ran back into grab something else we requested. The owners and staff at Lunch Heroes are so nice and most importantly amazing public servants. They more than regularly donate meals to people in need throughout the Chicago community. They also are near DePaul so they hire students to work there as well. I have been here twice and really like the sandwiches. I like to take it home and add my own oil and vinegar. The inside of the business is always clean and has some seating as well. If I'm ever in the mood for a big sandwich I go here because I want to support local! read more

I appreciate the idea behind this deli - or what I think it is - which they donate either funds or sandwiches to local schools. As for the sandwiches? I found them to be just ok. I got the chicken salad sandwich and while the salad itself had a unique, fresh flavor, I found out to be pretty bland. If you're looking to eat inside, The seating and space is quite small, and the seeing isn't comfortable (think patio chairs and the tiny patio table). Outside seating is bit more spacious, but same seating. Overall, my visit was just a lackluster experience. read more

Generous portions in delicious sandwiches made on Dutch Crunch bread with a firm crust and just right soft texture inside. You can't miss with the Mama Mia Italian Hero but be sure to try others. The breakfast sandwich is unbelievable, and you can customize it like everything else. All the Heroes I have tried are very tasty and an excellent value. The Owners are always there it seems and they and the staff are very friendly. In addition, they provide a healthy lunch to a kid in need for every sandwich they sell. Came to try San Francisco's famous Dutch crunch bread. Let's just say it did not disappoint. The store has a fun superhero theme, but is very small. Also, the staff were so friendly. Went with the butt kickin' chicken as it was calling my name. The bread was the best sandwich bread I've ever had. It was light, airy, and fluffy with the crunch on top providing a great textural contrast that didn't take away from the softness. The chicken salad wasn't too wet like a lot of places, but could have been tastier. I couldn't really taste the hot honey or Calabrian chili. Lastly, the veggies were spot on with just the right amount. I wish the bread was sold by itself as it alone will make me want to come back. And after speaking to the owner, next time I will try their sausage breakfast sandwich as it comes on an everything bagel seasoning Dutch crunch. The bread was not too soft, not too crusty, and had a nice sweetness to balance it out. The moist Ness ratio was perfection. My only desire was for slightly more red wine vinegar to shine. My second time at Lunch Heroes, and this time I tried the Butt Kickin' Chicken Sandwich. They have an interesting blend of spices that I couldn't put my finger on, but it was good, and they give you a good portion to boot. They have a good selection of sandwiches, including a "Veggie Sandwich." I'm going to try the "Beefy Beast" next time. All the workers are very knowledgeable about the menu items; they'll get you in and out in no time. If you're near the Fullerton "L" stop, try them; you won't be disappointed. read more

We have been following Lunch Heroes on social media for quite some time and have been looking forward to their opening in the LP neighborhood! We tried the Mama Mia and The Gobbler and both were delicious! There is a generous amount of meat, cheese, and veggies. The bread is really unique and delicious, it is a little more baguett-ey than a sub bread that we have had previously. We also tried the chocolate chip cookie which was FULL of chocolate and super yummy - a big hit with the kiddos. We love the mission of them donating a hero to a kid in need of lunch. Service was great and ordering at the counter was easy and quick. Ambience wise, my kiddos love the mural of the "heroes". We will definitely be back! read more

Currently in my car eating a 12 inch "The Hammer" and it's unbelievable. I never write reviews! At first the bread looked like the sandwich was going to fall apart but it stayed together! when I tried it with the Italian dressing it made the perfect combination. I'm not a bread or Italian dressing kind of guy but both of those items are very tasty at this establishment. I really enjoyed my sandwich and will come back. The only criticism I have is the bread could use a touch of sugar. I also think if they had a side window they could stay open late and get the drunk crowd. read more
