There are so many places to go to in Chicago for breakfast. You can pretty much get the same thing everywhere. It's hard to fk up breakfast. So, in these times, I'm looking for pleasant. I came here for a breakfast on a weekday. There were a couple of people, but it was not full, and service was very friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. I had the supremo hash, and it was quite a large portion! I ended up taking home part of it, and it made a very decently sized evening snack. Restaurant is no-frills, but very comfortable, and there is decent spacing between the tables, so I think even when full it would not feel too crowded. The chipotle sauce is really what made the breakfast but it was all very tasty and I would like to come back at some point to try their french toast. Stumbled upon this place based on other reviews. I dropped my car off for an oil change and wanted to get some breakfast. The menu looked solid so I thought I'd give it a try. It was a Friday morning at about 9:45 am and there were only two tables occupied. It was an ordinary looking space, nothing fancy, but it was welcoming. I was greeted immediately, given a menu and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I decided on the pork hash, no peppers and no chipotle sauce. It was brought out quickly and hot. It looked fantastic, but let me tell you when I tasted it. WOW. The pork hash had such incredible flavor. I was happy I didn't get the chipotle sauce because the flavor of the pork really came through. It was definitely slow roasted (shredded, along the lines of carnitas) and I could taste a hint of citrus and bay leaf. What surprised me most was that it was not dry at all and the entire dish was well seasoned (not bland as some hashes can be). Portion size was good, I took home half the hash for breakfast the next day. These are the types of local places that are hidden gems and Tribù Caffè is now at the top of my list for breakfast places. Great service, phenomenal food. read more

I come here when I need some quiet from Southport Avenue where I typically hang out. Although not pictured here, so far I love the Tribu Burger. Today i dialed it down and went for the Denver Omelette that came with a pancake. I enjoyed the pancake more than the omelette. You'll probably want to add salt and pepper to jazz it up a bit. The fried potatoes were good and I took the rest home. The crew is nice and pleasant. read more

This past Friday, January 3, 2026 I joined a friend at a new spot for lunch, turns out this place is a winner, in ever sense!! Tribu Caffe is located at 3856 N Ashland Ave Chicago, IL 60613. The atmosphere is simple and welcoming, bright and great choice of seating options. The menu has many great choices including daily specials. Based on our server, Myron, I tried the Beef Brisket Hash. No mistaking the care taken by the Chef here, this was perfectly prepared and when I requested a small adjustment to the preparation it was accommodated with a smile! This should be added to you MUST try and I say frequent Tribu Caffe often. Myron was the icing on this exceptional dining experience so do yourself a favor and ask for him when you visit!! We came during the first week and they are still working out some kinks around timing food from the kitchen and familiarizing with the menu. But i have high hopes this is a going to be a great neighborhood breakfast place. The remodel from the old restaurant was nicely done and there is a large amount of seating inside, no outdoor space. The food was all excellent. Very freshly prepared. Oj was perfect. Coffee was strong and smooth. Avocado toast - Eggs were on the lightly done side, so you will definitely get a runny egg if you order easy! The bacon on the toast was a great addition. Crepes - these were more small sour cream pancakes, which were good but not what we were hoping for. Tribu Waffle was a solid waffle with a good amount of fruit. Tribu Hash was excellent. This is a Chicago 5. It's just diner food. But it's done sooooo well. Ingredients are fresh and clean. The fruit is freshly cut. The orange juice is squeezed in house. The potatoes are cut by hand. Nothing comes from a box or pre-mixed. It's just solid. The staff is kind and the place is cute. Cherry on top: the ketchup bottle is wiped regularly so you don't get the greasey bottle experience. This is huge for me. You should eat here. read more

Great strawberry banana French toast and can not complain about simple scrambled eggs... the drinks are what is lacking. Iced chai latte tasted like milk with molasses with no spice flavor. This gem of a caffe was nothing short of amazing. First- our server was A++. Affable, attentive, and advised us with his recommendations. The chilaquiles diviorciados on point! My hubby was looking to order something else completely and was so glad he didn't!! . The chicken and waffles (a speciality) was ordered by my daughter and let me say the chicken was crispy crunchy and juicy to perfection! It had a hint of heat to the crunchy coating. The waffle, according to daughter, light and fluffy with a crisp finish... butter and syrup yummy! The owner chef is Mexican and I love the hint of spicy and depth of the flavor layering to all the homemade sauces, and original recipes. An example were the sour cream pancakes and warm mix berry sauce which we ordered as 1/2 order for our desert!! My order was "an ordinary turkey bacon avocado sandwich" on multi grain bread. Well not so fast my friends... the turkey is literally oven roasted off the bone white turkey breast with the freshest greens and tomato that tasted like a tomato! WYKYK the bacon was crisp and still sizzling I asked if I could add pickle and jalapenos with the fries and a side of mayo... and with all that...one of the best I ever had club sandwiches was served! Delightful service with food to match, regret that I took no pictures. The fried pork and waffles are a true standout, the former rivaling any carnitas or lechon in the city. Staff is extremely friendly, and twice as hard working. We visited for breakfast on the Sunday of St. Patrick's Day weekend. The place was jam packed. Although the place was a bit behind, I didn't see a single staff member pause for a moment. It was really impressive. Due to the rush, we had to sit at the bar. Here, we had the absolute PLEASURE of watching Frankie whip up beautiful drink after beautiful drink. Like the rest of the staff, Frankie did not take a moment to pause. Cappuccinos, smoothies, you name it. Not to mention, they tasted even better than they looked! Staff is super-welcoming and helpful. The portions are large and the food is delicious. My son had a mango smoothie and french toast. I had the croissant breakfast sandwich and a cappuccino. For how good our experience was, I was shocked they weren't more packed on a Saturday morning. I wonder if the large jungle-like murals/decor confuse people as to the type of place it is because we found it a little confusing too, but it's a fantastic American-Mexican brunch spot. I live down the street from this place and have been here at least a dozen times. I love it! I've tried the burger, pulled pork sandwich, and chicken Caesar wrap, just to name a few. Anytime I've gone with family and friends, they have great things to say about the food. And the service is thoughtful. I worry that this place doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's definitely not hidden, being across the street from a popular soccer bar, but it is a gem. read more

This place just opened in my hood about 1 month ago. I've been meaning to give it a go, and today I did for Sunday breakfast. Walked in & I was seated immediately. It was not completely full with several open tables but a decent crowd enjoying Tribu. The waitstaff is very friendly & accommodating. Their coffee is fabulous. I ordered the Western omelette with house potatoes & wheat toast. This is not your typical diner omelette. All the ingredients tasted very fresh & seasoned perfectly. There was a semi-spicy red sauce covering the omelette. A nice added flavor profile to set it apart from most Westerns I've had in the past. The house potatoes were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. And just the right amount of potatoes to fill me up good. I will definitely be coming back to try the other Tribu offerings.
