Best Mediterranean food on the north side of CHICAGO restaurants very clean with plenty of options. Food is fresh to order and ownership very friendly you won't be disappointed by stopping off at this place.

Everything was so good, it's all homemade, and it's all Halal certified. The owner has over 30 years of experience, and it really showed through the cooking. The kebabs were so juicy. The rice was soft and fluffy, no complaints, and it was a little earthy from the quinoa essence. My favorite kebab I tried was the Beef Kifta Kebab. Tender and moist. I love Baba Ghanoush, just the smokiness really tingles my taste buds, never had a bad baba ghanoush if we're keeping it a buck. They also do a lot of catering, and you need to save room for dessert. Their homemade Dubai chocolate was the best one I've tried, it's super crunchy from the shredded phyllo dough, and just irresistible, so we got more to go. The Dubai Chocolate brownie was also a showstopper, same flavors as the Dubai chocolate, but more dense from the brownie aspect. Give this place a try, you won't regret it.

Zabaadi Mediterranean restaurant located @ 7052 W Forest Preserve Drive in the open mall area on the NE corner of Forest Preserve Drive & Harlem Ave across the street from The Harlem Irving Plaza otherwise known as HIP. We had a craving for Mediterranean food & wanted to try something new & different. What we discover was Zabaadi. We really enjoyed the food and the service. As you come in you order at the register & grab a seat. The gentleman who took our order was super nice, very personable & friendly & made us feel very welcome. The restaurant itself is very clean & spacious. The food was very good and very reasonably priced. They have a variety of Kebabs, Bowls & Wraps. We both ordered kebab bowls similar to Chipotle. My wife ordered the Chicken Kebab Bowl which came over a bed of rice w/salad of cucumber & tomatoes, red cabbage, hummus & a pickle for $12.95. I ordered the Steak Kebab Bowl which came over a bed of rice w/salad of cucumber & tomatoes, red cabbage, hummus & a pickle for $13.95. The steak was very tender and tasty (but a little salty). They marinate the steak to make it very tender. We both had leftovers for the next day This is somewhere I will definitely come back to as the food & service were very good w/super reasonable prices. A winning combination in my book.

Service was great and the cashier was extremely helpful but the food was average. Unseasoned rice, dry and crumbly pita, and chicken wasn't seasoned enough. Other than that, the steak was great and most likely their most popular item. The restaurant is clean and also has a nice vibe.

For a random place in the strip mall (or so it seems from outside the restaurant) I wasn't expecting too much, but the food quality is extremely high. Fresh, tasty ingredients fast service, clean place. Would love if this was in my town and would frequent weekly.

Probably the best chicken shawarma dish in the neighborhood. The food is authentic and good quality. I've been here several times and tried different dishes. Baba Ghanoush was the best I've ever had, period!

I freaking love this place! Ever since I moved to this area, Zabaadi has consistently been a go-to spot for me for Mediterranean eats. Tucked away in a large strip mall, there's ample parking right in front of the store. It's extremely clean inside and way more spacious on the inside than it appears from the outside. The service here is great - everyone is always super helpful and accomodating. The owner, Yahya (I'm not sure if there's more owners), is always here serving guests and is very friendly. The food... THE FOOD. I love the food here to say the least! It's consistently fresh and delicious. I like any of their bowls (I usually get their chicken tender bowl) and their entrees (I usually get the mixed grill entree). The falafel here is to-die-for, same with their creamy hummus and garlic sauce. I love the spicy sauce they give on the side, as well. Everything is affordably priced and constantly fresh. I've ordered here for takeout numerous times and have been in a couple times, as well. You already know I will definitely be coming here again!

I met a friend here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy so we were able to order right away. I ordered a Chicken Tender Bowl which comes with rice, tahini, chicken and some veggies. I found the bowl to be quite filling, portions were great and the tasted was excellent. The chicken was juicy with wonderful seasonings, rice was savory and veggies seemed fresh. My friend ordered Kifta Kabob plate and it came with side of hummus and pita as well as rice and meat. I was able to try her meal as well and again, I found it to be quite excellent. When I went, the place was clean and staff were super friendly. Maybe an odd detail, but the bathroom has a shelf with two mini chairs which I thought was cute. I don't come to this area as often as I used to but middle eastern food is one of my favorites and this place will be in mind when I come back to the area. I enjoyed this place and hope to be back when in the area!

I come to restaurants with zero expectations in order to judge fairly and accurately. I can say that I was not dissatisfied with anything in this establishment. The staff was friendly and eager to show off their food. There was not a wait at the time of day we came, which was around 1:00 pm on a weekday. The decor has a real earthy feel with wood decor and colors that compliment it. Finally, for the food, I ordered a Zaabadi bowl. It generously comes with kifta, chicken, beef, onion and tomato, and hummus over a bed of rice. I haven't had this style of food often l, but from others I have tried, this was the most favorable assortment of flavors I have had in a bowl. You could leave it unmixed and get a different set of flavors for every bite by choosing a different side of the bowl to eat from. I highly recommend this establishment.

Dropping the stars today. It seems they changed the mixed grill. Now the shish kebab in the mixed grill was some skinny steak cut up. I'm not sure if they ran out and didn't tell me but this tasted more like the steak shwarma just not shredded. Disappointed this dish is over $20 I expect the shish kebab to be an actual kebab. If they ran out then it should be communicated. Update: I called and they changed the menu. Disappointing, it's a very expensive dish and I feel like the quality dropped. I'm disappointed, using the same steak as the shawarma just not shredded shouldn't be calling it a kebab.

Before we left I checked the website and saw that they were a cash only business. No problem except we took the 30 minute ride and when we arrived I realized I forgot my wallet at home. Fortunately for us it was a nearby Walgreens where we could get cash. My wife had her wallet so I zelled money to her. Once we got back we then saw that they do in fact take debit/ credit cards. Anywho. It was a no frills place very basic aesthetic nothing special to look at. Just a service counter where you can see them preparing the hot dogs. They do however have a steady line of people! They move the line very fast so you're not waiting long at all. We ordered 3 hot dogs with everything (mustard, onions, relish & sport peppers) the basic depression hot dog. They come with fresh cut fries & we got a fountain Cherry Coke to share. I spent $20 even with tip. The hot dogs were good i wasn't disappointed nice soft bun tasty condiments and a great snap to the hot dogs. I'll give it a 7/10. The fries had a decent amount of salt on them a bit oily and not too crispy but they were fair. They don't have any ketchup in the house. We keep tobacco in the SUV so I added some to the fries for a little bit. Without the tobacco the fries were still tasty. A solid 6.5/10. The service was good. Young people with good customer service. I loved it. 10/10 for service. All in all if I'm in the mood for a drive and a hot dogs I'll go back. If you're in the area and like hot dogs check them out. They also sell tamales. ( I didn't order one) 7.3/10..... all in all. It's really more like 3 1/2 stars! Remember Yelpers ALL reviews are subjective!

I think the hot dogs are just a throw in, and the fries are decent. But it's the beef that keeps bringing you back. Not much ambiance, unless you want to stand and watch the cars roll by on North Avenue, but the smell of the sausage cooking is intoxicating. The price of the beef has gone up, and I swear it's a tad smaller, but if you're in the neighborhood, nothing hits the spot quite like a Johnnie's beef sandwich. Choosing an "off" night (example: a weeknight) or during a less-than-ideal time (example: during a snowstorm) will give you the quickest experience for Johnnie's as the line can get LONG and parking is terrible (tiny lot). Note: this was my second visit as my first attempt, on Father's Day 2025, was a magnificent bust. We had no line and plenty of seating this time! They have a big menu, but save the cute stuff for a follow-up visit and get a beef (& hot dog is really hungry). Do yourself a favor and get an Italian Ice too, time of year is irrelevant. You can thank me after your tastebuds recover from being overwhelmed. Is the food THAT much better than other spots, you ask? Not handedly, no. Maybe because it already receives so much positive attention, it hardly needs my two cents. But after this latest visit, I decided to "pile on" with my love for this place. First, I must alert you to pay attention to their hours, because they are closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I kicked myself at least once, when I made the 40 minutes drive from home, just to find that I forgot that they were closed that day. This store is a double threat - offering a great take home Italian deli with a plethora of fresh and frozen items for you to prepare at home. This is also a great spot for lunch, with legendary sub sandwiches, and an array of hot dishes to choose from. I often do both. On this visit, from the deli, I picked up some of their marvelous, thinly sliced breaded eggplant, which I always get when I'm there. I bring some to my ex-wife and daughter who love it as well. Just give it a quick cook in the oven, and it's delicious. I also got some of their marvelous breaded potato salad, which is old-fashioned homemade style. From the hot bar, I got a couple of Italian sausage and some meatballs. I buy these ready to eat, but take them home to use for dinners later. That way I don't have to cook them. Obviously, they offer both meatballs and Italian sausage in fresh or frozen as well, which I get when I'm preparing my mom's spaghetti recipe. This time, I decided to try a quart of their frozen Nottoli homemade marinara, which I hadn't tried before. So delicious! I had pasta and spaghetti with sausage that night, and pasta and meatballs the next. On my various trips here, besides the Italian sausage that they are famous for, as well as the meatballs, I like their olives and other salad items, the sandwiches, brocciole, and many other hot Italian dishes for lunch. The rigatoni w/vodka sauce is a killer. Finally, the people have always been wonderful , which is very important to me. Despite being busy, it is well organized and you're in and out of there in no time (or you can sit at the table inside if you want to eat in). The prices are extremely reasonable, and I'm always pleased about the value I get for such a good price. I apologize for no pictures on this review. I always just seem to be focused on my own mouth watering choices, as opposed to a Yelp review when I come here.
