I should have given 3.5 or 4 stars for this spot but due to their cash only policy, only 3 stars. The restaurant serves Moroccan food, with a wide range of choices of Tajine, Couscous and grilled stuff. In general, the food here were not pricy. Moreover, everyday it has some discounts, e.g., on Tajine Thursday the Tajine dishes are only $15. The restaurant also had many local decors. Sitting inside really made me feel as if I was having a meal in Morocco. I ordered the beet salad and Lamb Fez (lamb shank Tajine). Both dishes were generous in size. The salad tasted fresh but lacked flavor. I could hardly taste the acidity of lemon juice. The Tajine was really new to me. I only had chicken Tajine before and the ingredients were quite different from this one: the lamb shank was cooked with prunes, cinnamon, honey and caramelized onions, so that it had lots of sweetness (in fact, a bit too sweet for me). It was topped with some hard boiled eggs and almonds. Try blending the egg yolk with the sauce/broth and having it with the lamb. The almonds added some crisp ones to the fork-tender meat. Food came out in reasonable time but other than that, the service was so-so. While there was an ATM machine, when I asked about payment methods, they did not inform me of it; nor did my server inform me of the cash-only policy. I ended up getting cash from a shopping center ~1 mile from the restaurant...

Being Moroccan myself, I can confidently say this place is a SURE BET. The harira is EXCELLENT, especially during the cold winter months. The royal couscous is, in my opinion, one of the best choices on the menu. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and extremely flavorful, the merguez sausage tasted just like the ones in Morocco, and the chicken added that extra touch so you can enjoy a bit of every meat. The couscous is served with its broth on the side, which you can pour over the dish, making it incredibly flavorful and juicy. The vegetables were fresh and high quality. My friend ordered the kefta and egg tagine, which was also extremely delicious and comforting, with a rich tomato sauce. And let's not even start on the Moroccan pastries, they were the perfect sweet touch to the meal. The staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. I recommend this restaurant 1000% if you want to experience the true flavors of Morocco in Chicago.

Shokran is the kind of restaurant you try once and want to come back again and again. I ordered the lamb shank, and it was absolutely incredible the meat melted in my mouth, and the flavors were out of this world. It was my first time trying lamb with sweet prunes, almonds, and egg, and it was a delicious meal! I also had a side of rice and some mint tea, both were great. The food and service were amazing.

This was my first time trying out Morrocan cuisine. It had very good reviews. The inside was very beautiful. They had an adequate amount of seating. You can find street parking nearby. Service was good. Prices were standard for being in Chicago. Portion sizes were sufficient for two people. We ordered lamb fez and merguez. They were equally very tasty and filling. Lamb fez has a big piece of lamb in a stew with prunes, cinnamon, almonds, and honey. Hard boiled eggs are served with it. The lamb was cooked well, meat was very tender and juicy. Merguez is a dish with homemade sausage stuffed with ground lamb and beef. They're on top of couscous and vegetables. Sausage was bursting with flavor. Lamb and beef is such a great combination.

Our Moroccan server was great! Very polite, funny and engaged, perhaps he was the owner or family? It was clear he really cared about his food and sharing it with us, educating us, and welcoming us. The decor is nice, we sat in a back room that had fabrics hanging from the ceiling that made it very cozy. Finally, the food was outstanding! I had lamb fez and the table shared a chicken bastilla. Both were very interesting as well as delicious! I will be back very soon with my partner who I know will love it!

Wonderful tasty food delivered directly to the hotel. Unfortunately, I still had to get some work done for next day's presentation - hence having to drop plans to get out for dinner. I ordered an Uber Eat takeout from Shokran Moroccan - and I was not disappointed. Loved the Sweet Lamb Couscous which was simply wonderful all around (and provided a help line (see below*). The portion was very generous and the pita bread cold probably have been skipped. And I have to admit that I went back to nibble a bit on the remaining couscous as I continued to work... Beyond that, the Shrimp with lots of garlic in spiced tomato-chili pepper sauce was delicious. And last, the Shokran Salad - a mixture of greens, apples, raisins, walnuts and a (a bit sparse) dressing - was very refreshing and provided the "healthy balance". *PS: Even though I requested utensils, there were none provided. Yes, I could have requested some from the hotel, but by the time the food would have been cold. Hence, I had to use the bones of the lamb to serve as spoon. Fortunately, the meet was immediately coming off the bone such that it became a reasonable utensil - so long as nobody watched!!!!!!

This was our first time trying Moroccan food. We drove 2 hours to check this place out. The experience was great. Our server, Aimad, was wonderful. He was so patient and helped us with recommendations. He had some great stories of his own life to share with us, which I enjoyed. Although this cuisine is not something I would probably crave, I enjoyed trying the many dishes we ordered. Everything was beautifully presented. I have nothing to compare it to, as it was my first Moroccan experience, so I can't exactly rate it on flavor. We enjoyed our visit.

This place definitely lived up to all the hype! Warm, wonderful ambiance for a group! They even gave us a private little area on a not too busy Saturday night! The bastilla was definitely a unique must-get item. Everything we got was so tender and well-cooked. The complimentary pita, sauce, and olives were good too. Friendly service and reasonable prices, especially since it's BYOB. CASH ONLY, there is an ATM there.

We got the smoky garlic hummus, whipped feta, brussel sprouts, and lemon meringue bar for dessert, and honestly everything was amazing. The harissa honey on the brussel sprouts was so good, and the lemon meringue bar with the citrus crema and graham cracker crust was the perfect sweet item to round out the meal. They bring complementary pita with your hummus and dips and the bread with za'atar itself was delicious. They recommend 2-3 share plates per person, but we ordered 3 plus dessert for two people and still had leftovers. So I'd say it definitely depends on how hungry you are! We went for lunch/brunch and were pretty much the first people there, so service was super fast. Our server was lovely and incredibly attentive with topping off water and clearing plates. Definitely would come back to try some of their larger plate options.

The 1st that plans ahead and gets to places early. And the 2nd that is there for a good time but always gets everywhere late. Those of us that wanted to come early and not worry decided that we wanted to go to a restaurant close by to wait for our tour time and that's how we found Ema. As soon as we walk inside we see how beautiful and modern the interior looks. They had a lot of seating available and we got a nice table by the window with a view We wanted to eat light before the tour so we shared a bunch of small plates. We ordered the mushroom escargot, lemon Caesar, crispy potatoes, a couple orders of hummus and some chicken kebabs. That mushroom escargot was one of my favorite things I ate during the entire Chicago trip. The mushrooms were creamy and rich. It tasted umami, bright from the lemon, slightly spicy from the Calabrian breadcrumbs, and paired perfectly with some warm pita bread on the side. The hummus was smooth and well seasoned. The lemon caesar was fresh and fairly standard. The crispy potatoes were perfectly textured and were soft and pillowy on the inside. As long as they sat on the table they never lost their crisp. The chicken kebabs were tenderly, juicy and garlicky. We were all putting together our perfect bite combinations with the pita bread. Everything we ordered I would actually order again. Though may want to try a different salad next time since the Caesar was pretty simple. Regardless, still no real complaints with the food Our server was charismatic and funny. He had a great attitude and entertained us throughout the meal. Everything came out promptly as well so we made it out and could take our time walking to the riverboats. Lucky for our friends the tour said they'd be docked for a few minutes after our scheduled start time to set everything up. As 3 minutes after our start time we see group 2 sprinting up from a couple blocks away Overall Ema was consistent, flavorful and reliable. Not a bad price point either for what you get. I'd definitely recommend and come back

I called them because I wasn't sure if the online version would be too slow. We were a group of three that came in Saturday night at 7 pm. It was moderately busy. The staff were all welcoming with smiles on their faces and attentiveness. Prices were fair for the amount of food you receive. Food portions are colossal so I would recommend one appetizer and one entree if you are a couple. They give you a complimentary dish. We ordered arayes with meat, meat toshka, mixed grill with baba ghanouj, fillet of basa fried, and mint lemonade. They also offer you fresh Arabic coffee before you leave. This is about a 4.5-5. -arayes with meat 4 - this was not bad. It's like a tamer version of the meat toshka. -meat toshka 5 - I prefer this over the arayes because they add the Syrian cheese. This one was bursting with flavor the moment you took a bite out of it. The minced beef and lamb just melt in the mouth. -mixed grill 5 - this came with 3 big skewers (shish kabab, kufta kabab, and chicken tawook. It also has tomatoes and onions to help cut down the meat when digesting. There are two heaping portions of biryani and saffron rice and baba ghanouj. The baba ghanouj was creamy and flavorful. It goes well with the pita bread. The meats were cooked medium well unless you want something. I think next time I'll ask for the shish kababs to be cooked medium rare or medium for a more juicy taste. The chicken tawook and kufta were both succulent. -fillet of basa fried 5 - the two pieces of basa fillet were astronomical. It also comes with two different kinds of rice. The fish was flaky, moist, and seasoned. Make sure you add the lemon and eat it with the sauce. -mint lemonade 5 - this was very refreshing after eating a heavy meal.
