Warning: long ass review but if you're thinking of doing business here then you should definitely read this.
This store is supposedly owned by two brothers. I came here to see the Optometrist since it's very close to my home and my left eye were tearing and hurting very badly. I got pretty good medical service at this place no doubt about that. He made sure my eye was all healed before I get a prescription for both contacts and eyeglass. 4 if not 5 stars for that.
One star for the co-owner, Steve. I was coerced to buy the contact lenses (which I usually get free or super cheap from my friend who manages an optical shop in the west village with a prescription) and eyeglass. I've been eyeing the Fendi eyeglasses and was meaning to buy those from the first time I came in the store. I was told that if I don't get a whole year supply of contacts and the eyeglass from there, I would have to pay $250 for my prescription. What?! I was told by my insurance that I'm covered for eyeglass prescription and certain eyeglasses. I understand that the eyeglasses I want would not be covered and I'm fine with that, but $250 just for prescription?? What?!!
He did manage to persuade me to get contacts and glasses from them. Steve said he'll "waive" my prescription fee and copay for the medical service if I buy the glasses and contacts. Came up to $500 I think.
My one star rating didn't really come from that tho, I'd still probably give them 4 stars for the super friendly receptionist and optometrist. Before I committed to buying I told Steve that I'm leaving for vacation out of the country for two weeks the following Friday and would need it by Thursday since I have an early flight, which is over a week from that day. He said and I quote "Oh! We'll have them ready for you by then. Should be ready by Wednesday". He sounded so confident and I trusted him. What a big mistake!
I called Thursday morning the following week and was told to call in the afternoon. Numerous phone calls that day yielded nothing until I finally had enough of the run around. I asked to speak to Steve. He acted like he doesn't know about the promise he gave me and said it won't be ready until next week. I'm leaving the following day. I cannot travel blind and if I knew he wouldn't deliver what he said I could have gotten my contact lenses elsewhere. I demanded that he either deliver what he promised or I get my money refunded. No apologies whatsoever for the inconvenience and slammed the phone on my ear.
After numerous conversations on the phone (I wasn't even asking to get the items anymore, I'll be gone for over two weeks, I just wanted my money back and nothing to do with them, ever. Which of course they didn't want to do), I was again promised it will be ready first thing in the morning. The day of my INTERNATIONAL flight. They open at 10 and my flight was at noon. What?!?!
5 mins before 10 the following day, my luggage with the bf at the airport and I'm still in Maspeth. Ughhhh. Just thinking about that whole scenarios giving me hypertension. The other receptionist was there and not the one I originally spoke to. She said contacts are there just waiting for the glasses. Ok. I sat at the lobby waiting. Saw delivery man come in. She opens the boxes, look at the glasses and did not say anything. Ok. Delivery man said there's another box sent to the other location. My luck mine would be on that one. And yes she said it was. What the?!
10:20 am delivery man hasn't come back. Yet, she called the other store. Mind you I was paying attention to everything this girl was saying and doing. She tells the girl on the phone she has not opened the boxes and looked at the glasses. Lie! She did. She had me wait 20 mins for glasses that was already sitting there! I could have drove to the airport and spared bf same stress I was feeling. Whatever attitude I gave this woman was deserving. And if you're my friend, coworker or just someone who knows me, you know I do not do that. I'm very patient and would always give anyone the benefit of doubt. This lady was just incompetent.
Unprofessional owner. I shouldn't have been surprised at this lady tho, witnessed the owner yell at her during my first visit.
What a nightmare! Never again!
