I purchased glasses off of these people sometime ago. I have been trying to get my script for two years now. Every time I call it is a complete runaround. They are unprofessional and back in the Stone Age. They're inept to serving your needs, and once again, good luck trying to get your script. HORRIBLE PLACE! I'd rather go to a car lot and be harassed by car salesmen. I went in to get two eye exams and two pairs of FREE INSURANCE glasses for my kids. Knowingly (because I've done this 6 years in a row already, knew my insurance would cover frames. However after a 2 hour exam with my minor children and was told I wasn't allowed to be in the room with them (creepy) I was told they didn't have "insurance covered" frames. I had to pay $250 per frame. Plus , I was told that if I didn't get all the extra features such as glare and scratch blah blah blah they glasses wouldn't last. Long story short I was suckered Into paying $500 for two frames. Okay, cool. Come back in 2 weeks to pick them up and my son puts the frames in the case OUTSIDE Of the store and they snap. Walk back in and they say there's nothing they can do. No warranty nothing. Told me to fix it with tape b the frames were 2 minutes old and snapped because of the spring case. I kindly asked for the prescription so I can order a pair online since the insurance already was used for that frame and I had to wait 2 weeks for the "doctor" to get their prescription. When I go to pick up the prescription it is a fake post it with random numbers on it. Prescriptions are supposed to be RIGHT EYE AND LEFT EYE and in increments of 10. There is no way my kids prescription is 162.89 and 29.73. I'm no eye doctor but cmon. And it was written by the dumb front desk lady. So why make me wait two weeks. I called and was literally put on hold for 1 hour! Horrible service. Horrible attitudes. Do not go here. They will steal your money. I'd rather be blind then get glasses from them. read more

Buyer beware...this is actually a zero star review. This place completely took advantage of my parents who were costumers for a years. Not only did the doctor ridicule my mother when she complained that something wasn't right with the prescription he gave her, but we later found out that not one, not two, but three pairs of glasses that she purchased there (sunglasses and regular) actually had no prescription lenses in them at all!! Who does this kind of thing to an older person? Anyone who buys glasses knows how costly new frames and lenses are, especially if you don't have insurance. Older individuals are more dependent on proper vision and to do this to a person is absolutely disgusting. So if you are a costumer or plan on being one I'd recommend you have your glasses double checked by a legitimate eye doctor, because this place is a fraud! Warning: long ass review but if you're thinking of doing business here then you should definitely read this. This store is supposedly owned by two brothers. I came here to see the Optometrist since it's very close to my home and my left eye were tearing and hurting very badly. I got pretty good medical service at this place no doubt about that. He made sure my eye was all healed before I get a prescription for both contacts and eyeglass. 4 if not 5 stars for that. One star for the co-owner, Steve. I was coerced to buy the contact lenses (which I usually get free or super cheap from my friend who manages an optical shop in the west village with a prescription) and eyeglass. I've been eyeing the Fendi eyeglasses and was meaning to buy those from the first time I came in the store. I was told that if I don't get a whole year supply of contacts and the eyeglass from there, I would have to pay $250 for my prescription. What?! I was told by my insurance that I'm covered for eyeglass prescription and certain eyeglasses. I understand that the eyeglasses I want would not be covered and I'm fine with that, but $250 just for prescription?? What?!! He did manage to persuade me to get contacts and glasses from them. Steve said he'll "waive" my prescription fee and copay for the medical service if I buy the glasses and contacts. Came up to $500 I think. My one star rating didn't really come from that tho, I'd still probably give them 4 stars for the super friendly receptionist and optometrist. Before I committed to buying I told Steve that I'm leaving for vacation out of the country for two weeks the following Friday and would need it by Thursday since I have an early flight, which is over a week from that day. He said and I quote "Oh! We'll have them ready for you by then. Should be ready by Wednesday". He sounded so confident and I trusted him. What a big mistake! I called Thursday morning the following week and was told to call in the afternoon. Numerous phone calls that day yielded nothing until I finally had enough of the run around. I asked to speak to Steve. He acted like he doesn't know about the promise he gave me and said it won't be ready until next week. I'm leaving the following day. I cannot travel blind and if I knew he wouldn't deliver what he said I could have gotten my contact lenses elsewhere. I demanded that he either deliver what he promised or I get my money refunded. No apologies whatsoever for the inconvenience and slammed the phone on my ear. After numerous conversations on the phone (I wasn't even asking to get the items anymore, I'll be gone for over two weeks, I just wanted my money back and nothing to do with them, ever. Which of course they didn't want to do), I was again promised it will be ready first thing in the morning. The day of my INTERNATIONAL flight. They open at 10 and my flight was at noon. What?!?! 5 mins before 10 the following day, my luggage with the bf at the airport and I'm still in Maspeth. Ughhhh. Just thinking about that whole scenarios giving me hypertension. The other receptionist was there and not the one I originally spoke to. She said contacts are there just waiting for the glasses. Ok. I sat at the lobby waiting. Saw delivery man come in. She opens the boxes, look at the glasses and did not say anything. Ok. Delivery man said there's another box sent to the other location. My luck mine would be on that one. And yes she said it was. What the?! 10:20 am delivery man hasn't come back. Yet, she called the other store. Mind you I was paying attention to everything this girl was saying and doing. She tells the girl on the phone she has not opened the boxes and looked at the glasses. Lie! She did. She had me wait 20 mins for glasses that was already sitting there! I could have drove to the airport and spared bf same stress I was feeling. Whatever attitude I gave this woman was deserving. And if you're my friend, coworker or just someone who knows me, you know I do not do that. I'm very patient and would always give anyone the benefit of doubt. This lady was just incompetent. This is a long review, but if you want me to cut to the chase, DONT GO HERE. I chose to come to this optometrist since I live in the neighborhood and they accept my insurance. I walked in here with an open mind, but soon clearly understood what was going on. First of all, they had a woman waiting for over an hour to speak to someone about getting credited back for something and they just ignored her. Not really ok. And then when she finally left all upset, the receptionist called the other office and talked about the angry customer right in front of me!!! Not taking care of the customer who was there, but BS-ing on the phone? Really? Not very professional. The Dr was nice enough, but just kept talking and talking and talking... I mean... since when is an optometrist appt supposed to take 2.5 hours? And then the receptionist, ugh. It took everything I could to not to yell at her; She had NO IDEA what she was doing and everything took three times as long as it should, then she would have to go ask the doctor and still come back with no idea what was going on. PLUS- they charge you $175 for contact fittings, unless you get a years' supply from them, at which point it is $75 (I had to go elsewhere for frames because of insurance and the place I got them from told me they charge $23 for contact fittings). Fine, I'm annoyed that I'm pretty much being FORCED to get lenses from you but you say you will match the prices from 1800contacts.com and that you have a rebate for me... UNTIL you call a week later and tell me there is no rebate? If they knew what was good for business then they would be ethical in keeping with their word. Maybe then they would have more business and not need to charge an arm and a leg and try to rip people off. Two weeks after my last conversation with them, I still haven't heard from them and just called to find out that my contacts are in. It would have been nice to have been notified, right? To the person below who said their family owned the business: maybe they should take what customers are saying into consideration because customer satisfaction is what will make or break your business. This place is a joke. I came in for a simple eye exam. They explained it would be a 5 minute exam and it turned into 45 minutes of waiting and an hour long exam. After finding out I needed glasses I chose a non-brand cheap frame and was told they would cost 100 dollars with my insurance. Meanwhile at Vision Works I paid 10 dollars with the same insurance for brand name glasses. Further more I dropped my DMV form and told them I would pick it up the following week, I came back and it still wasn't done in turn I had to wait an hour for them to fill it out. These people are dirtbags and take advantage of you and the insurance company in order to make more money on top of the horrendous customer service. read more

I got glasses here that hurt my eyes and a wrong diagnosis of glaucoma suspect, I consulted since with three other OD (two in NY, one in Ashville NC) and two MD (Dr Riccadi and his partner) they ALL said not glaucoma suspect and the glasses were to strong. I wrote a letter to David Girandi regarding my dissatisfaction and he nor his office staff Never responded, so I throw away $200 on glasses I cannot use.. so I will donate them.. The one woman receptionist is nice however, this review is based on the overall horrible experience based on the attitude of who I believe is the OWNER/EYEGLASS SALESMAN. In a nutshell, this salesman was very pompous, and eager to make a sale, like a BS artist. However, once I asked him for my prescription for my glasses, so I can go elsewhere, he told me there was a fee of $75 just to go else where to by glasses! Just for a prescription for glasses! It is actually true when other customers give this place a bad review. It is exactly the way I felt, the owner only cares about the money ! I went to get an eye exam and told them I really had no money for expensive glasses and just needed something to get me by. Bought a pair of $100 glasses and when I went to pick them up, they were completely wrong, I couldn't see any better (I saw worse). I tried them for two weeks and still didn't work, so when I went back, the owner told me "my vision was changing" so for a new exam and new glasses I had to pay the difference. Are you serious??? Stopped going here after being a customer for years, including entire family. They overcharge for everything, refuse to give you your prescription and when you need help they won't. My daughter was getting married and things were quite hectic. Forgot to order contact lenses, but they wouldn't do it without an exam . Hi It's a nice and clean place with smiling staff. However I had "difficulties" when faced with their business practices. You can see eye doctor, use your insurance, pay copayment but they will not release your prescription unless you buy glasses from them. The owner will spend long uncomfortable minutes to convince you that his selection is best. I finally got the prescription but only after I agreed to pay $150 for contact lenses examination. Fast forward 2 weeks. You can't get prescription for contacts unless you order the lenses from them. Akward silence and then the gentleman will try to persuade you that ordering from him is best way to go. My lenses are 1/2 their price online. I had to pony up extra $50 or else.... I paid and waited one hour to finally get the script. I witnessed 2 customers discussing-arguing with the staff about unfair pricing. Again, the place is nice and clean but owner is extremely pushy. Or just too pushy for me. You feel like in a used car dealership. I wrote the review just out of boredom as I was waiting for the prescription. I think it's an honest one. I also found some federal regulation regarding prescribing contact lenses. Something tells me that the $50 extortion may be illegal. Please do not go to this place. Similarly to the latest reviewer, they hold your prescription hostage unless you purchase everything from them. Sure their office staff is nice and smiley but once it gets down to business they will attempt to rip you off big time. Contrary to what they tell you, prices are not comparable to online contact lens retailers-bring that up and they will tell you they only price with 1800 contacts. If you dont purchase contact lenses through them they make you pay a higher vision exam rate and they jack up your contact lens examination and fitting fee. It is awkward to sit there while you know you are being ripped off and there is nothing you can do about it because you need your glasses and contact lens as well as your prescription. I have been going to these Opticians for the last 30 years and have always found them to be wonderful. I have gone through a lot of problems with my eyes in the past 3 years. I use Weil Cornell as the medical part of my eye care. I have had cateracts removed from both eyes and cornea transplants also done in both eyes. Dr. James Gaudio would not order lenses for me until my eyes settled down. He wanted me to be sure that I would be happy with them and not wasting my money on new ones that would change in a couple of weeks. He told me to hang in there and put up with the old ones a little longer even though he wasn't making any money, just to be sure that I was happy. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I went here to get an eye exam as well as my prescription so I can order a cheap pair of glasses online for work instead of paying $100 plus for a pair that will be tossed around. After the exam, Steve Gaudio(the guy in front) tried selling me on a pair of glasses. I explained that I would just like my prescription and PD measurements. He continued his sales pitch saying how much better their glasses are than anywhere else. Finally after about twenty minuets or so of me saying no thank you and just asking for my prescription and my PD measurements, his attitude changed and said he has to charge me a fifty dollar fee to release my prescription. At this point I just wanted to leave so I agreed to pay the fee. He gave me my prescription and said he could not measure my PD when earlier I had seen him using the device on another person so clearly he was lying. As his secretary was giving me my recipe, she apologized to me about her boss(Steve Gaudio) being rude and unprofessional. Therefor my experience at sharp vision was terrible. THE WORST PLACE EVER. The only reason they get one star is for the Dr he was wonderful. I went here because they were local showed for my appointment early an receptionist was on personal call and gave me a bit of attitude but I let it go , i asked to see some frames found ones i liked asked price she said they start at about 500 I knew my plan covered 250 so that was ok . Exam over came out place order for new glasses the frames and glassess were now 800 WHAT!!!! Should have left right than but no the same receptionist then said ok 600 i said still to much than she said 580 I said no Ok lowest 550 no and asked to see cheeper frames not designer and it stll cost me 300 keep in mind thats my cost not including what my ins pays . I have purchased dolce , ck, ralph laurens for less in past but I liked them so placed order and told would be ready in one week. Was called a few days later and told we would be going on vacation for two weeks and we might not have your glasses ready . I insisted and was promised they would rush them . On thurs I was called again and told they might not be opening the middle village office but I could pick them up in maspeth now heres where I get MAD . I gave it one star only because it's close to where I live; otherwise I can't find ANYTHING positive to say about Sharp Vision on Grand Avenue. One of the owners a sloppy looking very unprofessional thief who's name I didn't even want to know had just finished conning an elderly customer out of more money than she's ever paid for glasses before, he greeted me with rancid breath that offended me even across the display case. His shirt tails were completely out except for the part that was actually sticking through his open fly. He then proceeded to inform me that even though my insurance called for no co-pay on eyeglasses he couldn't make the glasses without a co-pay, although he refused to say how much it would be. He was obviously gauging how much of a sucker I was. I would buy a seeing eye dog before I set foot in this place again.....PS I got a wonderful pair of glasses the following day, without a co-pay at Grand Spectacle, 66-60 Grand Avenue and was treated like a king by their very pleasant staff.... read more

I have to agree with Abigail T. The Optometrist is great. Steve, however, is another case. Not only, did he lie about the benefits I was entitled to (which I had already verified) he was relentless is his approach which bordered on bullying. I had paid out of pocket before and never even submitted it to my provider for reimbursement. However, this time around I wanted to stay within my plan benefits. He was visibly upset about my decision and continued to just babble on and on. Only showing me glasses that were not within my plan. In fact, he tried to quietly ask his worker to bring out the glasses that were in my plan. Might I add that they are not displayed they are hidden in the back and I was only given two to select from...hmmm, can you say suspicious? One orange frame and the other a red frame. Really???? Only after I said I would think about it, did he said, "come back tomorrow and I'll show you more of the selection available in your plan, I have to leave now". What???!!!! I was beyond floored, I was appalled. My first thought after that statement was ...as God is my witness I will never set foot in this store again.
