Went into Shanti because the trek to Northgate Mall every month just to get brows done was a bit much without a car and this only a few blocks down the street from where I live. I read the good yelp reviews so I purchased the yelp deal, $10 for $15. I went in during a little lull, 4:15pm on a Monday, and was seen right away. The service was quick, less painful than previous times other places (maybe I am getting used to it) and my brows turned out lovely and just liked I asked them. However I was annoyed that mid-way through the lady went to answer the phone in the back room and talk for 5 minutes without telling me she would be right back, if she was done or what was going on. She came back into the main room and started again as if nothing happened. But what really left a sour taste in my mouth was the fact that they wouldn't let me use the $15 coupon on packages. The lady told me the $15 was only for single brows and the coupon was only worth $10 the amount I paid for it for the 6 packages. She did a good job and it's close by so I just went along with it but super annoyed because other people on here have said they were able to use the coupon on packages. If their rules have changed they need to change the wording of their offer. read more

So I'll start off by saying that I'm from DC, where $10 is standard, so I'm not too excited about the price. I guess that may just be a factor of the location I'll have to get used to. I rate eyebrow salons based on their attentiveness, efficiency and price. Basically the more you listen to what I ask for (and don't hack off my whole brow), the more likely I am to forgive you for being slow and/or pricey. I stumbled across this salon while I was running errands in the area, and quickly checked Yelp before heading on in. I had to wait for a few minutes but all in all I was out after 10 minutes or so. Before doing anything, she asked me what I wanted and I explained that I just wanted my brows cleaned up and not to change the shape. She did just that. Awesome. I also liked the extra little eyebrow-area massage they did afterwards -- it was a nice touch. Then she asked me "Just eyebrows, no upper lip?" *blank stare* "Um...no thanks." I've been to enough salons that I've decided to write this off as upselling rather than be offended. I'm comfortable with my lip. I also used the $10 for $15 Yelp deal, which was really straightforward, she just clicked the "redeemed"button & took my information. I normally get mine threaded at the north gate mall, but it's closing and I was looking for something closer to my apartment. I'm always nervous going to a new place for my eyebrows, however I walked in and both the girls working had great brows so I knew I'd be fine. It's pretty cheap as far as threading or waxing services go. It's pretty fast as well. I walked in and was 6th in line. I only waited for 10-15 minutes. Not a whole lot of talking, and they don't trim the longer hairs for you, rather they give you a mirror and scissors if you'd like to do it yourself. My experience wasn't exactly the same as Peyro L.'s below - I bought the Yelp deal, went in and got threaded, asked about the membership, and bought it... but they used the day's services as a punch on my six-session card. The eyebrow/lip/chin package was $110, they took $10 off from the Yelp deal (which was advertised as "pay $10 for $15 in services" but doesn't apply to packages), so I paid $10 online and $100 in the salon. Not including tip, $110 for six sessions comes out to $18.33/session. This is slightly more than what I pay in NYC, and it's slightly annoying to have to be tied via a membership package to achieve similar pricing, but I have to say - GREAT threading. Really thorough and gentle (relatively - it is threading, after all!). And they do offer discounts for waxing and facials to members who buy packages - it's nice that they can offer this as a reward to regular customers. I am indeed a fan of this place! read more

I am completely new to eyebrow threading. I have very sensitive skin. I have had some pretty bad experiences with waxing in the past that have left me with at least one nasty rash and a burn. So I have been only tweezing for many years. And admittedly, I am prone to being a bit lazy about it. But, I can't deny that nicely, naturally groomed brows is one of the best ways to frame one's face, to accentuate one's eyes, and to generally appear more polished. I find that if I do nothing but polish up my eyebrows and throw on a bit of lip gloss, I still feel pretty good walking out the door. All that said, I had heard from a girlfriend about eyebrow threading and thought I might give it a try. I checked out some of the other places on Yelp. Shanti had good reviews, and happens to be close to where I live, so I decided to call and see if they could work me in. The owner (whose name I have forgotten unfortunately -- I am so sorry!) answered and said I could come right in. The shop is very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was polite and accommodating. I explained what I wanted, and what's tricky about my eyebrows since they are fairly thin to begin with. I was definitely fearful that I might leave with just tiny strips of eyebrows left. But my technician listened to me and offered some suggestions. Then she began. I was thrilled with the results! She was thorough and quick and very professional. When she finished threading, she sponged my face with pure rose water. Very soothing! Before I knew it, she was finished and I had very well groomed, beautifully arched eyebrows. And I even smelled better! I couldn't have been happier with the results. The owner then asked me if I knew about brow tinting. I said I did not. She offered me a deep discount if I wanted to try it out. I asked some questions about it, particularly about wanting natural looking results, and then decided to try it for myself. Once again, I was thrilled with the results. My brows look natural, a good match with my hair color, beautifully groomed, and now just a bit fuller -- which is exactly what I was looking for to begin with! The prices for their services are very very reasonable, especially compared to some of the other threading salons I checked out online. They also have some package deals which I may look into for the future. The service was exemplary. The facilities are clean and nicely appointed. Shanti is THE best place to get your eyebrows done. Hands down. Usually every time I go, I have my eyebrows done by the same woman and she's amazing! I don't even have to say how I want them as she already knows what looks best on me by now. (I've been going here for almost a year) Although it can be somewhat painful (feels like little pinches), it is far better and more precise than waxing and Shanti does it best. I found a wax deal online for Shanti so I figured I'd give them a try. I made a reservation for 2 days before a big trip to the Caribbean. I got a call about a week before my trip from them saying I had missed by appointment but could reschedule - an error on their end. So, I called them back to see if the original date was still available, it was! That morning I get a call from them saying that the person who waxes has called in sick so I have to reschedule. A bit frustrated, I let them know that I didn't have much time to reschedule as we were leaving in 2 days. This is why they get a 4-star review: they brought in the wax lady from their other location to the U District location just so I could keep my appointment. Customer service always wins. I told them I appreciated the efforts they went through. Once I arrived for my appointment, I was continuously pleased with their service. I used to love this place, I have been a loyal customer for 6 years, but after what happened today, I'm afraid they have lost my business for good. I went in for my usual eyebrow threading, when I arrived there were 2 other people waiting, and 2 who came in after me. A majority of this business is via walk-ins. I have always walked in, and never had an issue with the wait- until today. A woman walked in, and the threader asked if she had just called. She said yes. The threader then proceeded to take her back immediately, leaving all of us patiently waiting, and waiting, and waiting...you get the idea. This woman was having her entire face threaded! Eyebrows, lips, cheeks, chin, and more. Finally, after 20 minutes of her STILL working on this woman who walked in past all of us, I left, along with 2 others. The 3 of us could have all had our eyebrows threaded in less time than it was taking to thread this entitled woman. Shanti lost 3 customers in the 25 minutes that I spent there. When I first came there was an older lady who was extremely friendly and tentative to my services and I've always tipped extremely generously because of it. But then... There's this younger lady who also is available and oh god she is HORRIBLE. Not only does she look like she hates her job (and you) she keeps asking me to pay BEFORE she threads my brows, she also does a shitty ass job.... Honestly she looks as if I'm forcing her??? She's made me bleed, completely miss hairs, and does it extremely recklessly. I really don't want to stop coming but at this point I'm not sure it's worth it. This was the first time in years of threading that I got to discuss exactly how I wanted my eyebrows and the stylist delivered in spades! This is a great place. Clean, efficient, and well-lit. And right above a comic book shop, so you can pick up your book and get your brows done at one fowl swoop. I was moved to get a 3 month unlimited membership, and I am happy to report that my eyebrows are now carefully tended every two weeks for a fixed price. Threading is by far the least painful way to manage your brows, and it's perfect for thick hair like mine. You'll never pluck at home again. (Which is good, you're probably overdoing it!) And 400 extra points for the application of disinfectant and lotion after services, as well as a little smoothing massage--better than Botox! read more
