I eat a lot of Indian food all over the world. While the restaurant is not a high end place (I don't think that's the intention) the Indian food is excellent. We had the chicken curry, kids had burgers and fries. Excellent and tender chicken. I like the fact that it's a chill relaxed atmosphere and not a stuffy up tight place. Staff are very nice people They also do American and Japanese food so it caters to a lot of people read more

Shangri-La Kitchen in Nantucket is such a solid spot for a casual meal. The mix of sushi, curries, and pizza sounds wild, but they pull it off - everything is tasty, fresh, and super satisfying. The portions are generous, prices are reasonable for the island, and it's perfect for takeout or a relaxed dine-in night. Friendly staff, lots of options, and definitely a go-to when you want something easy and delicious on Nantucket. read more

In short, we really enjoyed our meal here. However, this place seems to be geared towards take out or just too busy for the small staff to deal with sit-in diners. We do want to come back, but we will do take-out instead. The longer version: I ordered a butter chicken, naan, and the Dynamite Roll. We placed our orders at the counter and sat down at a table. The restaurant is very hot inside and unfortunately they do not have outdoor seating. We received waters promptly. The wait time for food was a tad long but understandable when you see just how many people are steady coming for take-out and with the phone constantly ringing with new orders. Once the food came, it was pretty good! The sushi roll was fantastic. I would order it again. The other items were not the most amazing Indian food I've ever had but still very enjoyable. It satisfied the craving I was having. My naan did not come until we were almost done after I had to ask for it again. It was abnormal but still fluffy and delicious. We did not get water refills until very late in the meal. Next time I plan to try the korma. Overall, the food is good and for a good price. Our service was subpar so I recommend getting it to-go. read more

We were very happy with our lunch and will definitely be back. We got 2 sushi rolls (Shangri-la roll was incredible) the momo dumpling soup, and dumplings were all incredible! Then we got butter chicken and tikka Masala and enjoyed that as well. Food came quickly and staff was also very nice. read more

At a time when we're extremely grateful for any restaurant that remains open for service, it feels so very heartless to leave anything but a glowing review... But since I'm leaving this as a reminder for myself as much as I am a communique for others, I have to be honest: How well does a restaurant that serves Indian, Japanese AND Italian-American food prepare these cuisines? We didn't try the subs or pizza, but in the first two cases, at least, I'd say: about as well as you'd expect. (Read: not terribly well.) We really should've gone with our gut on this one, but a few glowing reviews and our children's pleas for Indian food (I forgot to pack my essential spices, sadly) made us throw caution to the wind. We ordered: - potato samosas - baighan bartha - lamb "curry" - wakame salad - teriyaki chicken - yellowtail scallion maki (off menu) I'll start with the good: - Crucially, the fish used in the maki was of unimpeachable freshness. - The lamb curry came with tender lamb, cooked to a pleasant texture. - The gigantic samosas had a lovely, crispy, non-greasy shell and a filling that was mild enough for our kids to gobble down. - The takeout packaging was pretty environmentally friendly, with minimal use of plastic. And now, if you're not interested in a prolonged whinge, turn back, now! What we didn't like: - All of the Indian food tasted as though it came in part, or in whole, from a package, not an in-house kitchen. The baighan bartha was overly sweet and bland, with the homogenous texture of something from Trader Joe's or at best a shelf-stable MTR box. It was doctored with peas, prepared separately. - The lamb curry came in a similarly sweet, pre-prepared sauce. Although we asked for "hot" as the spice level, we could barely register any heat. It tasted almost indistinguishable from the mild baighan bartha. However, the well-cut, tender lamb had been cooked in the sauce for long enough to pick up the flavors. - The tamarind and green chutneys accompanying the samosas were the nasty, corn-syrupy, standard-fare sauces that you find at every Americanized Indian restaurant you'd find in a small town in the midwest. It's not a huge ding, I guess, given their prevalence -- but it's representative of the kind of Sysco-esque fare this kitchen serves. - The wakame salad wasn't wakame salad at all, which was disappointing for the vegetarian who ordered it; it was subbed out with what looked like tako su (octopus salad). The tako su was imbalanced -- overly sweet, even syrupy -- and would've been much improved with some cucumber and rice vinegar -- but it was better in our assessment than many of the other dishes we tried. - The teriyaki chicken was frankly repulsive. It came drowned in a gloppy, brown sauce and utterly bland, mushy, "stirfried" (frozen and then boiled?) vegetables, which included cabbage, green beans, carrots, and broccoli. Interestingly, I think some of the vegetables may have been prepared fresh, in-house, and were probably not originally from a freezer package -- but they seemed as though they'd also been frozen in-house at some point before use. - The maki roll was made with medium-grain rice, not true, short-grained sushi rice, and some of what was used in our roll was slightly undercooked. It was seasoned properly, however, and the ratio of fish to rice was appropriate. The yellowtail was cut in small pieces to remove the more fibrous bits (a common technique for making lower-quality, fibrous cuts more palatable), but even sushi snobs couldn't find fault with the freshness. --- I'm not sure if my expectations were unreasonably high after reading some very enthusiastic reviews. The very nice owner seems to be of Indian descent and I suspect the kitchen could make a much stronger showing in that department. Perhaps it does when demand is high enough to justify it later in the summer when tourists really flood the island. Interestingly, while I probably wouldn't come back for the Indian food or cooked Japanese dishes, which we could easily make more deliciously at home, I probably would return to try more of the sushi menu. Nantucket doesn't, as far as I know, really have excellent sushi anywhere, and this restaurant does a reasonable job of scratching that itch. read more

Similar to other people who left reviews, I am grateful for the restaurants that are open during the winter; however, this one fell far below my expectations. I ordered the food on-line and picked up at the location. My first impression was the lack of cleanliness. There was food on the floor and the cooking area (which is in plain sight) was really not at all maintained from a cleanliness perspective. Everything felt sticky and in need of a thorough cleaning. For myself and a friend, I ordered tuna seared tataki, salmon seared tataki, seaweed salad, gyoza (which they have spelled as "goyoza" on the menu) and a shangrila roll. With tip, the food was in excess of $80 and it was hardly enough to feed the two of us. I actually thought they had forgotten the shangrila roll, but as it turned out they put both tataki's and the shangrila roll in one small (4"x8"?) container. There was no daikon or greens, as described in the menu, and the tataki was not marinated and looked rather grey (vs. seared) on the edges. There was no seasoning and it came with a small container of soy. Very disappointing and the volume, although advertised as an appetizer, was very small (5 small slices). The gyoza was cold, undercooked and did not come with the traditional gyoza dipping sauce - instead, it came with a small container of soy sauce. The shangrila roll was the highlight of the meal - but not enough to get me to go back. read more

Have ordered from here a couple times and enjoyed their chicken fried ribs, yakisoba noodles and chicken dumplings. All their entrees are well balanced and don't sleep on their sushi as well. They offer a variety of Japanese and indian dishes. Considering the fact that it appears more like a restaurant where you would sit down for a casual dinner, I only ordered to go, but the food is always prepared quick and accurately. read more

Yummy food is great service was great. It's one of the best for that kind of food on Nantucket

It's definitely an interesting restaurant due to the eclectic menu. We had a very enjoyable dinner. We ordered 4 Indian dishes and enjoyed them all. The spice and flavors were perfect. We also order sushi which we enjoyed and the samosas were probably some of the best samosas I've ever had. Squid salad was also enjoyable. I definitely would recommend this restaurant and go back. It's more of a takeout restaurant but they do have some table and chairs and more chairs by the sushi bar. Just note that the restaurant runs on the hotter side since the kitchen is open. read more

Ordered online at 11 am for a small party at 6:15 pm-- all we ordered was 1 party platter. Went to pick it up and was actively ignored and not given updates at all. When I finally asked for an update, the blonde woman with a ponytail handling orders was extremely rude and seemed exasperated I was even asking. It's now 6:53 and we still don't have the platter, nor have we gotten any other updates on what the hold up is. The phone is ringing off the hook, without getting answered, and there are about 5 other people here also waiting for their orders. She also kept taking off her mask, while in the kitchen, despite the mask mandate. The 2 stars are because the food is okay. read more

We were skeptical from the reviews but decided to stop by to pick up some takeout on a rainy day and were pleasantly surprised! My family got sushi and I went for the salmon dinner and really enjoyed it. Portions were great and filling! will be back for takeout! read more

Food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Also BYOB. Had the veggie samosas they were warm and flaky on the outside, with potatoes veggies on the inside. Also had the lamb vindaloo and the chicken tika masala both delicious and filling. This is comfort food! Ordered some nan bread even though it was not on the menu. What better way to dip up the sauce. Perfect meal. My favorite on the island. read more

Phenomenal food, crowd-pleasing menu, friendly service, and cozy environment-- in addition to fantastic pizza (which is even better now) that has been served under the name "Fooods for Here and There" from this location since the 70s, the new ownership has added wonderful Indian food, sushi, other Japanese options, American staples, and even a few Mexican dishes. Unlike most restaurants that try to do a broad menu, this chef-driven restaurant does everything well! The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, but still manages to feel much more refined than most places that would fit that description. This is great place for casual dates, family meals, and even a quick bite by yourself, and they also do take-out. read more

I have tried wakame salad everywhere it is offered on the island and I always return here as it is somehow the best!

Been here twice, both times the food was like night and day. First time I ordered a Burger with fries and it was cooked to perfection. Got the same thing the next time I went in, the Burger was half cooked, the same for the fries and they both were sopping with grease. Very inconsistent. Will never go back. read more

I come for takeout and the food good for what it is but kitchen is chronically slow so I am hesitant to keep returning.

The food is amazing, the take out takes a bit longer than the time they provide, but it's understandable when they have a small staff and a lot of orders. read more

File this under "Only on Nantucket". Let's see. Pizzeria. Sushi. Indian Food. The sushi was excellent and really expensive. It is like a diner/take-out place (like many take-out chinese food joints) with a tv in the corner. So spending $60 for small portions and leaving hungry seems absurd. But the people seemed nice and the food was good enough. Like many places on Nantucket open year round, they try to offer every/any type of food to generate the revenue needed to stay open. We might go back. read more

Already wrote one review on Facebook which mysteriously disappeared. This is not a 5 star dining experience. It's not even 1 star. The chicken is mystery meat. The chicken tikka was terrible and the overall appearance of the restaurant is filthy. If you want excellent Curry, this is not the place. It was recommended by a local realtor who has admitted to not dining in. The owner of this restaurant has emailed me on Facebook and is incredibly harassing. She has offered a refund if I remove my review. Go and eat and you be the judge but my review stays: It's awful. read more

To be completely honest, the people who run this place are crooks. We have ordered from there many times, and it's the same order each time. Now all of a sudden they have decided that the delivery minimum is $30, when just a week ago there was no such rule. The first time we ordered they said the total was a certain amount, then when they were delivering the food the total became $10 more. Apparently they charge you $15 for delivery, and don't even mention it. The second time we ordered, we were told the timing was one hour. We didn't get our food for two hours. There is absolutely no professionalism at Shangri La. They will lie and change prices without even telling you. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more
