OK, Yelp, you don't need me to tell you about Mo's. But I can't help it. I have been hearing about Mo's Lunch for years from visitors and islanders alike. No one say's Mo's Lunch, actually. Either just Mo's or if they worry you don't know what's what, it's "Mo's at the Polish American Club". Which is true. But what they also say is that the sandwiches are extra good. And that is TRUE AF. I had the daily special - suppressetta, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella on a baguette. This sandwich made me happy when I ordered it. Then when I ate it and now when I'm remembering it. Like a hat trick of happy. The service, the vibe, the prices - all great, too. Just go. Go Mo's. You'll be 3x as happy as if you went anywhere else I'm certain of it.

This is a carry-out only restaurant, and they allow you to place orders ahead for pickup. My friend and I walked in and both ordered the oxtail dinner, and I also ordered a side of plantains. The oxtail came with a healthy side of cabbage and rice and peas. The flavor on the oxtail was very bland, and the meat itself was somehow both fatty and tough. The rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain were both okay. I don't see myself coming back again, but if I did, I would stick to the fried chicken, as that seems to be a popular item.

Lol But I went with it. We called the order in while we were lounging on the beach for pick up. This is a pick-up only spot as I didn't see anywhere to sit and eat. Items ordered were the Oxtails, Thai Salmon, Blackened Shrimp. My friend that ordered the blackened shrimp was the only one disappointed. The oxtails were amazing and tender. I paid .75 for a side of Jerk sauce. The peas/rice were a bit dry; but the jerk sauce helped. I even had leftovers for the next day. I also got the coffee drink with Vanilla & Bailey's, I think it was called "Jamaican me Crazy" That was a bit disappointing because they just handed us a cup with ice for us to pour ourselves. I was hoping for freshly brewed.

The folks in the kitchen looked like they were hustling, but we saw several customers complaining about how long it was taking their food to come in. Something is not good with the work flow, and while the guy running around was super nice and professional, the girl who took our order was downright rude. Even though we ordered for dining in, our food still came out in a to-go bag. Why? So annoying. The kale chicken caesar was deconstructed, so you have to mix it all up yourself with limited space and utensils. The whole point of eating at the restaurant is so they can do it for you! We do love the harissa cauliflower sandwich that we always order, but every time that we've had it, it's always undersalted. Our daughter's tomato soup was good (if you like a verrrry heavy cream base) but parts of it had slopped over the side from being in the bag and the paper started disintegrating. Unprofessional. We tried a couple of their baked goods for the first time and they were OK. The chocolate chip cookie struck a nice balance between crispy and chewy, but we weren't fans of the pumpkin blondie. We're on the fence of whether we'd come back in person again since this was a pretty disastrous experience in the off-season. We can't even imagine during summertime! Three stars. Do better.

However, as soon as we were sat at a table, our server (wish I got his name) was very nice and our food arrived very quickly. The lobster bisque was delicious! It doesn't need to be fancy, or stuffy, or absurd. To be honest, we've had a pretty rough year or two. Lots of stress and tension and just...advanced adulting, you know? The stuff you didn't sign up for. Anyway, we ended up here on a cool May weeknight a couple weeks ago and this meal genuinely turned it all around for both of us. I could feel that all that weight melting away. We were present and enjoying the moment and each other. We were both...happy. Looking back now just a little later, we both are more relaxed and living easier again, like we used to be. The sushi here is fantastic, especially the Crystal Roll. The cocktails are great. Unfortunately I forget the name of the one I had (twice). Our server was friendly and approachable and quick to laugh and chat with us. We can't really afford for this place to become a regular spot, but we've already been back. Whoops. The outdoor area on a nice day is highly recommended. Yes, it's busy. Rightfully so. Both times we were seated within 2 minutes. Maybe I'm hitting that age where I start thinking about my impact on the world and making a difference and all of that...but meals like this make me wish I could open a restaurant to impact people in the way we felt the other night. Highly recommended, obviously.
