I have been to LoLa about a half dozen times now. They have always been a must visit on a trip to the island. The Stroll is often a hard time to get great service as the understandable crowds place added pressure on the infrastructure. I cannot say enough about how friendly and accommodating they were. There were 10 in our group, they set up a table, were upfront about the kitchen closing to retool from lunch to dinner and helped us get orders in. The food was fantastic. The Korean ribs are alone worth the trip. Sushi is always fresh, and I think they have the best truffle fries on the island. If nothing, stop by for one of their creative cocktails and an order of fries. (But if you are able to get a hard sought reservation, probably want to go a little deeper into their great menu) They have a really great vibe, staff has always been so friendly and has become a destination on my annual pilgrimage. read more

The hostess/host were very welcoming and kind. We sat out on the "deck area" which we have sat a few times before and prefer. The server was great (familiar with some of the 6 of us) and attentive. We loved cocktails being presented in the shaker, plus plus. The vibe is mostly great although it's a bit like NYC and , in our opinion, too dark and the music was too loud. The sushi was good however it was just that, good and fairly unremarkable for the price and the presentation was unimaginative. Had a reservation for dinner here. Had no problem getting a table, as it was the last weekend before the season. The ambiance was nice and on the dark side inside that forced the use of the candlelight at the tables. Ended up with a really nice server. No issues with her at all, but the food was a let down. We had ordered the chicken lettuce cups, but they never came. I don't attribute this to our server, but at the end of the day, the entrees had enough food to not need this. We ended up getting the grilled salmon lo mein (water chestnuts, snoew peas, broccoli, carrot, bell pepper and sorrel) and the lola burger (cabot cheddar, red onion compote, foie gras sauce on an english muffin). The burger did come with thick shoestring fries. Food was a little bit of a let down. The grilled salmon itself was pretty good but the lo mein was just okay. Not overly flavorful and unrememberable. The burger was also just okay. The fries were not good. Half soggy and way too salty. We did let the server know about the missing lettuce cups and she took care of it no problem. Honestly this is just five stars. Perfect 5 stars. My favorite spot on the island. Celebs are in here all the time, the decor is modern and cute. The jazzy, crowded bar atmosphere makes it perfect for date night, but during the day I'd actually say it is pretty child friendly. The prices are high, but it's sushi on Nantucket what do you expect. The sushi is fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious and the rolls are creative, unlike anything I'd had before. I've been here multiple times and never had a bad experience. The fish is soft and has a clean, true flavor. Might I add, the crab Rangoon were the best I have had in my life. Not classy. We ordered a lot of food. The sashimi was not great and very very pricey. The alcoholic drinks were good. We ordered very pricey entrees and these were subpar. We requested the very loud music to be slightly turned down, but told the music was very sexy. Haha it wasn't. For over 300.00 I must say it was the most underrated and disappointing meal i have ever had. The waitstaff felt like they were on the typical mercenary cash grab from the uber wealthy. Ugh. This is the textbook example of Michelin star prices for Star Market quality sushi. "Fusion" really means two mediocre examples of whatever they're fusing, but Lola 41 ups the ante by bringing out the ridiculously overpriced dishes in a random order. Two kitchens, the server explained. Whatever, figure it out. What it really means is that by the time the already-made sushi rockets into your kids mouths they'll be eagerly yelling to leave while the other courses are slowly filtering out. We called 138 times to get a reservation here from 4pm onwards and got a table at 945, luckily. Expectations were high. These guys are a victim of their own success - we found service to be arrogant and food to be very disappointing. We ordered 6 dishes here: Shrimp tempura - the only good dish we had Salmon Carpaccio with shaved truffle - not worth $5, let alone the $50 they charge for it. Shaved truffle imparts no flavor and the ginger vinaigrette had no flavor ASAHI (A-SA-HEE) - tasteless sushi roll ANATA (A-NA-TA) - half decent sushi roll, nothing to write home about Toro Nigiri - supposed to be their freshest and most expensive nigiri - too much rice, overcooked rice, fish didn't taste fresh LOBSTER FRIED RICE - awful - flavor overpowered by coriander and overall tasteless If you like good food, do not visit. Victim of their own success. We are regular sushi eaters from California, and a low level CA sushi restaurant does a better job. I don't care about the price to quality ratio, the quality isn't worth it period. They also aren't open to feedback as they are back to back full. Lo La 41 is a dimly lit/ moody sushi restaurant in Nantucket. In order to get in you need to call the day of at 4pm. The line gets insanely bogged down but if you keep calling you will persevere! We got through after calling over 100 times. However, the bar is first come first serve which we proceeded to do going forward. I cannot recommend enough their surf & turf rolls or shrimp tempura! My boyfriend and I don't usually choose shrimp tempura; but, we were told it was a favorite by most customers. It didn't disappoint! We honestly loved it so much we came back the next day! Lola41 is one of our go-to spots when on the island and I'm surprised I haven't written a review yet... *Ambiance: on a regular, non-covid, weekend night (and summer week days) this place is jammed. it's dark and moody and they usually play their music REALLY loud (which can be a plus or a minus depending). People will crowd around the bar which leaves some tables being squished by standing people... I love the booth to the right of the bar that's tucked into the wall- it's a little tough to get in and out of but it's secluded and a great spot for 4-6 people. *Service: Usually good, sometimes slow if they're really busy. Servers are generally amiable and helpful. The only thing I don't like is that it's obvious, especially in the summer, that the staff is there just to have a good time and I've witnessed them all taking shots together at the bar which is fine, I just would try to be a little less conspicuous about it in front of patrons. The other thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that, due to covid, they were required by the state to shut down at 9:30pm. I made a reservation for 8:00, knowing that we would only have 1.5 hours to enjoy dinner... long story short, we ended up not being seated until 8:20 due to the table before us taking longer than expected... and the staff still wanted us out by 9:30. It was the most rushed dinner of my life and left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth BUT I know that's not standard practice. *Drinks: STRONG. which is the best part, if you ask me. Never had a drink I didn't like here. *Food: usually AMAZING. the best is sushi sunday when sushi is 50% off. It's asian fusion so I typically get sushi but their other dishes are always good too. We had a fantastic night under the tent at Lo La 41. Our server Danny was top notch. We truly enjoyed the crab Rangoon 's, wonderful Hamachi Crudo, fantastic sushi roll and fried rice add more. It was fun to visit the restaurant "off-season" because we were able to get a table and have a wonderful socially distance meal at a perfect pace. If you get a chance I highly recommend this delicious Asian fusion restaurant. I booked a reservation for this restaurant with such high hopes and I was extremely disappointed. The food was okay, but not for the price. The ambiance isn't exactly what I expected as it was cramped, but that may be because we were shoved in a corner. The reason I felt I needed to write a review is because my main issue with this restaurant was the hospitality. The hosts were extremely rude to us as well as various other guests. I was appalled as they looked as up and down and basically just threw us at a table with not a single smile or "enjoy your meal". The saving grace of our meal was our server Amy. If you go to this restaurant she is who you want. Incredibly knowledgeable about the menu which was so helpful and she was such a kind spirit. This restaurant needs more people like her. Lo la 41 was expensive, small portions, crowded, loud music and most importantly underwhelming. Lola is expensive. The rolls are teeny and the lobster roll (wrapped in cucumber with mint (I think mint) was the single worst dish I have had in a long time and maybe ever. We each had a nibble and no one could even eat a single piece. The combination did not work. I would recommend their ribs but that is really it. If you've come to Nantucket to hear Euro dance music, this is the place. We started dinner at 8pm and it was loud but progressively got louder as the night went on. At the end I couldn't help but want to dance on the bar. But I was angry about it. The food was mediocre, especially for Nantucket. Our lobster fried rice was over cooked and salty. But the Branzino was great. My husband like the pesto that came with the fish, I did not. It also came with a side-salad (arugula, tomato , cucumber, onion) seemed like an afterthought with the fish. DO NOT COME HERE. Everything about this place is NOT worth it. You have to call hundreds of times just to get a dinner reservation. Once you do, they will sit you at the latest time possible and treat you like crap throughout your meal. We waited 45 minutes just to get our cocktails, and then an hour and a half just to get our appetizers. Based on all the recent reviews, this clearly wasn't a one off experience. This used to be our favorite place and has gone completely down hill, and the manager may be to blame for that. Lola doesn't believe in customer service whatsoever. I work in customer service. I understand if things are behind schedule or the kitchen is backed up, things happen. You explain the situation to the customer and people understand. After waiting two hours for our main courses, the manager comes over and takes no accountability, and just tries to place blame on the customer with a "this is what you should expect"' sort of attitude. They literally snapped their fingers in our face and bragged about how they have been at the restaurant for 9 years and this is what it is and there's nothing we're going to do about it. Sat in the tent on a chilly night, however it was heated and comfortable. The music selection was jarring - C&C Music Factory's Gonna Make You Sweat. Only ordered sushi, which were all good to quite good, however, the variety of nigiri was limited. They included: - Hamachi scallion maki - least favorite. Wasn't terribly flavorful and the fish seemed lost. - Spicy Tuna maki - they were large disks, not too spicy, yet flavorful. - Salmon maki - simple, but well done - Tuna nigiri - large piece of tuna and well cut, it was buttery and without sinew. - Hamachi nigiri - delicious. Our favorite and ordered a second serving for dessert. The wine list wasn't great for sushi though. It was heavy on American wines and could have benefited from some lighter options such Riesling and Blau Franckisch. read more

Lola has some of the best food on the island but sadly it is not a good restaurant. After waiting 30 minutes in the call line we secured a 2 top table during Labor Day weekend at 8:45. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated shortly. It took about ten minutes for our waiter to come around which was understandable as the restaurant was packed and he was clearly running from table to table. Cocktails, some appetizers, a sushi dish and two entrees were ordered. After 30 minutes the cocktails came out. After a further 20 minutes we got the sushi first, then 10 minutes later one of the entrees and then the appetizers. We ate the food that came out and then about 10 minutes later, after all of our food was eaten the final entree came. We'd ordered our second round of drinks in the middle of this chaos and didn't see them until the end. All of this might not warrant a bad review on Yelp but what made us upset was how the manager responded. When we let him know why we were frustrated his response was shocking. He told us that at a restaurant on Nantucket, ordering an appetizer, some sushi, and an entree at 9pm was a bit much to ask and that we couldn't expect for it to come out in the proper order. My first thought was...did you not accept our reservation for this time? Was there a disclaimer saying that we should expect reduced service? If the manager had responded in a level manner to our frustrations I would not be writing this review. The slower service is certainly understandable in a restaurant that is well managed, sadly this wasn't the case. As someone who's worked in the service industry for 2 years I could see the chaos in the servers' faces. The manager was flat out rude, dismissive, and condescending. We accepted the fact that things were tight for the staff and our bill reflected our gratitude for our waiter who did a great job with what he had. All of this is to say that while Lola has some of the most amazing food on the island it is not a good restaurant. We missed catching drinks with friends at Gaslight. We had to complain to staff which always makes me uncomfortable. And worst of all, while the food was delicious, the experience left a terrible taste in our mouth after what was otherwise an amazing weekend. DO NOT GO TO LOLA. THE FOOD IS NOT WORTH THE TREATMENT. Visiting a restaurant during COVID doesn't necessarily give one the ability to get the full "flavor" of what they offer from an experience perspective but it does still allow for the entire culinary experience. Lola 41 has some great dishes. Food: After a couple We started with the tuna poke nachos - they were unreal. The wonton chips they use added a great flavor base to the dish. The tuna was delicious! I had the lola burger which has red onions, aged cheddar and my favorite...foie gras sauce. It was out of this world! I highly recommend this dish...even though it is a sushi place. The one con - which I'm certain was a temporary one- the music was blasting to the point where I needed to essentially shout to hear my fellow guests...bu that actually mentally brought me back to a pre-COVID time of shouting at the bar when elbowing my way through to order a drink...so maybe not a 100% con!! This used to be our favorite restaurant on Nantucket, but we will no longer be returning simply because of the service (or lack thereof). Based on other recent reviews, this seems to be a common issue. To start, the booking system is a complete mess. Reservations can only be made same day via phone starting at 4pm. Be prepared to put your afternoon plans on hold, call 100+ times just to get through to the restaurant, and then be told they only have 9:30pm or later reservations available. It's clear that the manager prioritizes tables for friends and that everyone else should just feel "lucky" to even get a table at all. The food is good (albeit overpriced) if you feel like waiting an hour and a half or more for it to arrive. During our most recent visit, it took 20 minutes just to have a waiter show up at our table, 45 minutes for our drinks to come and an hour and a half for our meals to arrive (at this point it was past 11pm). Our entrees came out before the appetizers, and when the appetizers did finally come, we were missing one. While all of this might not necessarily warrant a poor review, the real issue was the arrogant, pompous and condescending manager. When we voiced our concerns about the wait times and lack of service we received throughout the night, the manager rudely snapped back with "your order was a bit excessive, what do you expect?" and told us he didn't need our feedback nor our business. For reference, we had ordered a round of cocktails, a few appetizers and sushi rolls for the table and several entrees. This is a very normal order for a table of 8 people and should not take nearly two hours to complete. If the restaurant couldn't handle something so standard they shouldn't have accepted our reservation, but instead the manager faulted us instead of thanking our group for the amount of money were spending with them. We have been to plenty of other fine dining establishments on the island and in other upscale locations such as New York City, the Hamptons and Miami and have never been treated with such disrespect. Just because you run a high end restaurant in a desirable location does not excuse poor service and a nasty attitude. When we drop nearly $1,000 on a dinner bill (as our group did this evening), we expect decent service and politeness at the very least. We did not receive either of these things. read more

She's fashionable, likes to party, and can cook up a storm. She also likes things a little pricey, so I can only see her once in a while. But after our last rendezvous, I can't wait to see her again. Was on Nantucket last weekend and stopped into Lola 41 Saturday night. Was gonna just pop in with my girl, but then decided maybe a rezzie would be a good idea. But by the time I called at 6:00, the earliest table I could get was 10:15. So, we decided to just swing by and take our chances. We showed up around 9:15 and were seated at the bar a half hour later. This place is a little ways down Beach Street, maybe two short blocks from the edge of town. It just sort of busts out of nowhere with a hip, electric atmosphere that contrasts wickedly with the sleepy surroundings of that block. It feels very young and local, more so than any other restaurant I've been to on the island. As for the food, it is known for the sushi, which we thought was good, but not great. It was fresh, but the rolls we tried didn't have the same intensity of flavor and texture that I've found in my favorite Boston hangouts like Douzo and Ginza. And both the rolls and sushi pieces are expensive, averaging $18-20 for rolls and about $10 for two pieces of sushi. However, we had an amazing appetizer - the warm gorgonzola stuffed peach, which was served on a bed of lettuce in vinaigrette dressing, accented by candied walnuts and a light syrup. It is a must order. I would have had one of their legendary burgers, but I didn't have the appetite that night. However, I made up for it by grabbing a Lola Burger for lunch the next day at the takeout location next to Stubby's and Steamboat Pizza. OMFG! This 8 oz. monster, served on a warm, thin English muffin, was dripping with cheddar and topped with a sweet red onion compote (see pic). I even draped some vinegar on my last two bites and nearly lost consciousness. Arguably the best burger I've ever had. They have about 7 or 8 variations (Tuna burger, Veal burger, etc.), and I'm sure they are all ridiculous. So, just go with your craving that day and you will have no regrets. The truffle fries aren't on the restaurant menu (but are on the takeout chalkboard), so just ask for them. I held back a star here because of the prices and the sushi. But there's no way I'll stand up my new love interest the next time I'm on Nantucket. I'm hooked now. read more

I was so excited to get to LoLa because I love sushi. When we got there we were quickly accommodated and sat in a "comfy for 7 people in a small restaurant" area. Because we were in the off season, we were able to get lunch which typically isn't the case. They had a wide variety of food, wine and sushi to choose from. Their prices weren't completely outrageous (Nantucket prices) but for lunch the rolls were definitely outside a normal price range even for Nantucket. I got the Bento Box which came with cucumber rolls filled with sushi rice and a crab salad, two pieces of sushi, a salad with salmon and poke sauce topped with black and white sesame seeds and sushi rice with smoked teriyaki that had some sort of cold delicious something on top of it. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the "salad" and the poke sauce- but everything else was delicious. My husband errs on the side of caution (as well as mostly everyone else we were with) and sticks with what he knows- he got the soup and sandwich. Pork and shrimp dumpling soup with two pulled pork sliders. Everyone seemed to enjoy this- I had one small bite of a slider and it was really unique. It had a taste that almost reminded me of Pho. One other person got the poke bowl- which was very small for the price. She ate it and was still hungry which shouldn't be a thing given what you're paying. The Korean beef bulgogi was over spaghetti, not egg noodles, the Chinese broccoli consisted of several small pieces of the stalks. Not certain if there was any fried garlic in the dish. Oh man this place has gone downhill the last year or two. We sat outside in the tented terrace, which was fine, not too loud, space heaters blowing. There definitely needed to be more than one waitress out there though. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come to our table to order cocktails, then another 10 minutes to get them, then another 10-15 minutes to order our food. It was slowwww. The sushi is fine, but there are so many other better sushi spots on island now, that it isn't a draw to come here for that. The korean beef bulgogi (which I have had a few times in the past) has tender beef, but the dish is SO FREAKING SPICY (moreso than I remembered) and it just overpowers the dish so much that you can't even enjoy the other flavors. There was also an insane amount of sauce coating the lo mein noodles. I could have poured a cup full of liquid out of the bottom of the dish. And hardly any broccoli in there to be seen. Felt like they took one broccoli floret and just chopped it up. Overall- Not worth it. There are much better restaurants on island worth your time and money. read more

We saw the menu and thought oh yes! We have to go there. They only take reservations starting at 4pm for that day. We were so excited when we managed to get one of the few coveted table. What a colossal disappointment! We started with the crab rangoons- which are fantastic but it was one disappointment after another from there. The rolls were something I would expect from a grocery store - except for the $75 special of the night that honestly tasted like sweat socks. Just awful. Spare yourself the time trying to get a reservation and go just about anywhere else. I ignored the poor reviews because they were mostly about the service and I usually focus on the food (which seemed to have good reviews). I ordered take out so cannot speak to the service. However the person I ordered from was very professional. Helpful and nice. Let me start off saying I am no stranger to the more expensive restaurants in Boston; I am happy to pay if the food is great. I ordered 2 rolls, a soup and wings. When my food arrived I had to check 4 times because I thought they forgot a roll. I only realized after asking that both rolls were together (I got Oishii and Tsukiji) One roll ANYWHERE else was easily the size of both of these $22+ dollar rolls (each). If they were amazing I might let this go. However, the rolls tasted no better than Wegmans $8 rolls in the fish isle. The soup was normal miso. $10. The wings were the worst part of my meal. They were advertised as jumbo Greek wings with pomegranate molasses, dukkah dust and cucumber yoghurt. In realty they were tiny, Fried and greasy. So I originally was really really excited this place. Called as soon as possible to try and get a reservation. We sat outside in the tent which was nice because it was less crowded then inside. They had fun 80/70s disco music playing but besides that nothing else was good. The service: Usually I do not doc reviews because of service because I get that the kitchen was busy or whatever or you're swamped. However this was not the case. Our server was very rude and when two apps came out - we asked about the last one(not in a mean way - just in a curious way) and the server responded "it's from a different kitchen so it won't be out on time" which is fine , we don't care. We just didn't need the attitude. We had to ask 2 times to get drinks and he seemed to be rolling his eyes when he would service us. If the food weren't so bad - I wouldn't have even mentioned this. Food: I was so excited for the food, but the pictures make it look better than it was. Miso Soup- actually good! If you're already stuck here get it! King crab Rangoon - also very good - had a little bit of a kick but the cream cheese helped it out. Tuna tartare- I love sushi and this was bland and yucky , which makes no sense cause shouldn't it just be raw why was it bad? Tuna burger- the best dish out of the three- good but honestly it was just flavored like wasabi Truffle fries- the best part of the meal.... Which the fries shouldn't be the best part Clam pasta- literally disgusting - I make pasta with butter that was better. This was the most bland thing ever and just tasted like parsley. It was mushy and so over cooked I was surprised the chef allowed it to come out like that. Ribs- the ribs were well cooked and had good flavor bit were really spicy. Which is fine but if we had know that they were spicy we probably would not have gotten it. We had a whole convo with the waiter about spicyness and he didn't say anything. This place is honestly a Waste of money. Just go to cru instead. read more

Food is great, management sucks. After spending $2k at the bar we were told we had to leave to make room for other people. Still had 1/2 a bottle of wine left. And if you want to make a reservation you have to physically stand in line at their front door at 4:00pm to male one. They don't answer the phone. Plenty of other great places to eat on ACK without the crap attitude. read more
