It was Saturday night around 8pm when I came in and I was surprised at how empty the place was. The place was fairly clean and a lot of seating inside and outside. I got the K-Shack Fried Chicken Sandwich and the K-Shack BBQ Burger due to the BOGO deal that they were promoting along with a side of fries and shake. K-Shack Fried Chicken Sandwich: 3/5. I remember liking their regular fried chicken sandwich but I was so disappointed in this one! The chicken was crispy and sauced up with spicy sweet gochujang glaze but the chicken was room temp inside! I'm typically okay when food temperatures but it felt like the chicken sat for awhile before it was served. K-Shack BBQ Burger: 3/5. This was also an average burger. The KBBQ sauce in this burger was just not good. It was sour? Not sure how to describe the taste but it just didn't work. The meat was okay too and was greasy, just like how I remembered. Fries: 3/5. I love good crinkle fries but these also were okay to me. They were also not overly hot when served to me and I felt like I got the small pieces left at the bottom of the tray. Chocolate Shake: 5/5. The only redeeming factor of Shake Shack was this Shake. It was chocolatey, perfectly sweetened and thick! It was tasty on this warmer day. Overall, the food was average, especially for the price. I feel like for $11.49 a burger or chicken sandwich and $4.99 for fries is a lot for the amount of food and quality that you get. The only item worth stopping by to me is the Shakes. I've gotten shakes from shake shack before and they've been good. Today was the first time trying their Korean inspired new items as they had a bogo deal running. I got the k street burger without bun and it was very light. I get that the whole burger only had scallions and fried onions which I opted out of but still. The burger was super light. When my burgers came to the table, it looked like as if the toppings had been thrown on. I had to slide the onions and pickles back inside the burger for a good picture, hahah. The burger was put together very sloppily. The patty on both buns is too dry, no juice at all. The free sauce that came with my ShackBurger was wayyyy too thick! Their burgers are so good! In my honest opinion, I think their burgers are better than in n out! The burger tastes so fresh, juicy l, and melts in my mouth! Even their bread buns for their burgers are so soft and delicious! I always get the shake shack burger, and it never disappoints! I like how they have multiple iPads inside to order on your own bc sometimes I come with a lot of people and we take a little longer to order, so I feel less rushed to pick what I want to get! Their fries are always so fresh and crunchy! I get their chocolate shakes and have yet to try their Dubai chocolate shake because they are always sold out! I also like to order ahead and our order is ready in less than 10 min! Their corner location is top notch, lots of seating inside and out, and very kept clean! Well here's the story. We ordered through a kiosk, I'm not sure if you could order at the register but idc much about that. We ordered a bacon avocado burger and bacon cheeseburger and fries. The food came out quick(nice!). However, thats when we notice that the "Bacon Avocado burger" had no BACON nor AVOCADO! (Devastating! I know!). So we mentioned it to them and he was like "Do you want it on the side?" ... well duh! And gave it to us in a small bag. They fixed it! (Kind of)... My issued is not how they fixed it. It's not making it correctly when that is the item we ordered! Like it's in the name! Not like it was an add on or customized. I rather my food take awhile and correct than quick and wrong. It wasnt even busy for them to mess up. Ugh the stress i had to endure for 2minutes without the bacon and avocado... idk if i could give them another chance. Our break up might be official. This update is for the 2025 holiday drink, Peppermint Bark Chocolate Shake - I would not recommend this. It's $10 and it's supposed to have white chocolate covering the side of the cup that cracks off. The white chocolate cannot crack off, because the white chocolate layer is so thin, you need to scrape it off with a spoon. It's 100% NOT WORTH the price. The peppermint bark shake from Habit burger is better and cheaper. I'm rating this location 3 stars, because they should put more layers of white chocolate in the cup. I went here for the first time and tried their burgers and fries and it was underwhelming. I ordered the cheeseburger with added bacon to it and a side of fries. My dad got the Carolina BBQ Burger with Fried Pickles. He also ordered the Dubai Chocolate Milkshake. The burger was good. It wasn't bad and the fries were nothing special. They're like Chick Fil A waffle fries. The burger was very disappointing. The Angus beef was too thin and I wished they were thicker. Burger was also way too small. My dad said that his burger wasn't that great either. The Dubai Chocolate Milkshake was the most let down and over hyped thing. For $10, it was not worth it. The chocolate shell was thin so it wouldn't crack. You could barely taste the chocolate and it was mostly the other stuff. We got 2 burgers, fries, and a milkshake for $37!! This will likely be my last visit to this Shake Shack. After four tries, it's time to share my experience. I still remember my first visit during the pandemic. My friend and I ordered through the app while standing right outside. It was straightforward--place your order, get an estimated pick-up time, and check the monitors to see when it's ready. We waited a long time, but our names never appeared. When we asked an employee about our order, the woman rudely told us that if our name wasn't on the screen, our order wasn't ready. We ended up asking another employee, who was able to locate our food, but the experience left us with a negative first impression. As for the food on the 3 previous visits, I've always thought the burgers were just okay--nothing exceptional. Every burger I've had here has been lukewarm at best, never hot and fresh. Tonight's order was particularly disappointing. I got the ShackBurger and a frozen custard (vanilla & chocolate). The burger was a mess--sloppy assembly with tomatoes sliding out, a pickle against the cardboard box, and a sad, wilted lettuce leaf between the top bun and cheese. The buns were flat, and once I reassembled the burger, it looked so unappetizing. As usual, the burger was lukewarm with a soggy, flat bun. It wasn't worth the $7.99 as I was still hungry afterward. The only bright spot was the frozen custard. Another annoying detail: despite checking the box for napkins, they never include them, and I always have to ask. First let's start off with the location, nestled right in mall of Hillsdale in San Mateo. Wow this place has changed since we moved away from the Bay Area. Crazy! The food was great, our oldest kept saying it was better than In and Out, for me being California raised I thought that was sacrilegious to make such a statement. I also tried the black truffle Parmesan fries which were delicious. Their strawberry peach iced tea is made with real fruit puree and was the perfect compliment to my burger + fries. I hadn't been to shake shack in a while but I was at the mall and needed a bite, so burger was an easy choice. I got the smoke stack, because I love the peppers. The potato pun was soft and pillowy. The meat was good but small, I should've gotten a double. I also got a side of cheese fries, and not sure how it's possible but the cheese was kinda clumpy and cold. I still ate them, but it was definitely not the warmest which made it kinda mid. The fries themselves are ok, definitely prefer them over the other popular burger chain. For a burger and fries, it came out to $15 before tip. And I was still hungry. Definitely don't feel like the value is there for what it is. Whenever I'm in Vegas, the shake shack there hits way different. Dunno what's up with the Bay locations but the quality isn't on the same level. Dining room could use some TLC as well. Shake shack is one of my guilty pleasures. I love their burgers. When I visited today, I ordered the shack burger. Their burger meat is always juicy and well seasoned. And their cheese that they add on their burger just hits different if you know what I mean. I also ordered the cheese fries which was also pretty tasty. The food itself is very comforting. This location is usually pretty busy as it is within the hillsdale shopping center so don't be surprised if you are waiting quite a bit for your order. Flavor-wise, we preferred the single-patty cheeseburger because the ratio of ingredients to meat is better. I was disappointed that the fries were cold. I was hoping since there weren't too many customers, we'd have a better experience. This may come off as nitpicky, but the ketchup packets were extremely sticky. I remember why I don't frequent Shake Shack--it's because the burgers are too greasy for my liking. I had a very bad experience in a different Shake Shack location in 2023. It's been a while so I decided to give this location a try and ordered two truffle burgers and one truffle fries. The fries and its truffle sauce were pretty good. My partner and I's main concern was for $11.49 each, the top bun of both burgers were really small. This location is in the outside area of the Hillsdale mall, and is extremely convenient to reach. Parking is no problem, and there is a nice choice of shops to browse in the surrounding area. The one item that I have had a consistently good experience with is the Avocado Bacon Chicken burger. I usually add tomato, and it is absolutely delicioius, moist, and crunchy from the sauce and components. Highly recommend this if it's your first time here! Seating inside is plentiful, sometimes they are too full but there's also an outside seating area that is well protected from the elements. My only complaint is that the price point is on the higher side for the food content that you are getting, especially since you have to order sides individually and there are no combo deals. A pretty simple basic meal for 2 with a side and a drink can run you up into sit-down restaurant prices, which is a questionable deal since you can literally go sit down at a burger place just around the corner. I think this place is really good if you have a specific craving for something on the menu, as it's pretty convenient to just swing by and grab a quick bite while spending some time at the mall. read more

Solid Shake Shack spot. Preferred ordering is at the machines but if you prefer to pay at the register just stand near there, and someone comes by to help out. Service has always been great for me. Staff helps families out by cleaning and reorganizing the outside tables if needed. My favorite spots are outside on a nice day. Food-wise everything is as expected from Shake Shack. Classic go-to shack burger was great and the fries for the most part were all crispy. Chicken nuggets taste like real pieces of chicken. Quite busy on weekends but not impossible to find seats. I never write reviews but today was just unacceptable. We went into shake shack and we were there from 8:34-9:26 pm Friday 01-09-2026. There was an employee who was cleaning and slamming the chairs on the table while there was still customers in the facility eating. We witnessed her go to a table where there were 2 young ladies still sitting and she literally started cleaning their table and that made the young ladies get up and leave when they weren't even done. I just think that's really unacceptable as she was basically rushing people out when the place doesn't close until 10. And her attitude when being asked something was really rude. Been wanting to try this burger joint for quite some time and I finally made it. Things went bad as soon as I walked in. From the looks of things the seating area was about half empty so it wasn't crowded. There was no one working the register so I had to use one of the four touch pads which two were not working. The screen on the pad was dim and dirty which made it hard to see what is on display. After ordering, it wasn't clear if the order went thru because the ordering system just kinda stops and set up for the next order. Prices are a bit high for what you get. The food arrived quickly to our table. To my disappointment the cheeseburger I ordered was so flat and sloppy the tomato was actually thicker than the meat. When I removed the wrapper,it had a good amount of grease that wasn't drained. I also ordered a lemonade to drink and even that was bad. It was more like water with a splash of lemon. The only good thing that I couldn't complain about was the fries. The flavor and crunch was perfect. Another thing to add was the seating. If you want to sit at one of their booth type tables beware they are tight and hard to get in without hitting your legs on the supports. I overheard customers complain about it as they had a hard time sitting there. I luckily sat at a regular table with four chairs. On that note, try this place at your own risk.
