If you're craving an apple fritter or breakfast, this is the spot. Came for a fritter and ended up getting breakfast food. It was pretty good, 8/10 for the spicy hash, if you like spice that's the one I would get. The hipsterito was a 7/10 for being a vegetarian option. I would rank the apple fritter best over the banana and cinnamon roll. Staff were friendly, and I enjoyed the theme inside, real nostalgic inside.

So I go to an establishment called "APPLE FRITTER" .. and there are 0 APPLE FRITTERS. -2 stars especially since I walked there from San Mateo event center with fritters permeating my mind and activating my salivary glands. Seriously and kinda ridiculously disappointed by this. Other than that..great ambience, whimsical decor, friendly staff. I want to minus another star for the Line wait, it is so slowwwwww. Empty seats and 30 min line to order is ridiculous.

I think like everyone else found this place while searching for a good brunch place to go to. Parking wasn't too bad, I think turnover was pretty good. As people were leaving, more people came to park. The line can get long at times but moves pretty fast. Drinks: Dragon fruit mimosa - I'm not a mimosa fan, but this was refreshing. I highly recommend if you want something nice and light. Horchata freeze - so creamy and very cinnamony. You can really taste the cinnamon throughout the drink. Iced salted caramel latte - it was good but nothing that really stood out. Probably will not be getting again. Food: 1. Chorizo breakfast tacos with tater tots - huge portion and so tasty. The chorizo and egg with chipotle sauce, salsa, and cheese was a perfect balance. The chipotle sauce had a nice kick, and I liked that the egg and chorizo were not greasy. Tater tots were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. 2. Churros and cream french toast - I could not get enough of this no matter how full I was. I liked that it had actual churros in it and not just like a cinnamon and sugar topping. The French toast was nice and crunchy, not super eggy and soggy. I liked that they had the syrup on the side. 3. Spicy hash - the spicy hash was really good, and jalapenos were a nice touch to make it more spicy. hash browns were well cooked, and cheese was perfectly melted. appreciated the chipotle sauce on the side. 4. Wild thang burger - The burger was juicy, and the onion ring in it was crunchy. There was a good amount of bbq sauce and jalapeños and the fries were crispy 5. Original breakfast plate with chicken pineapple sausage - classic and simple. The chicken and pineapple sausage had a nice snap to it and not salty. Donuts - we ordered a bunch to go. We got blueberry, raspberry, and banana fritters. It was super crunchy but to be honest, I sampled all of them but couldn't tell a difference. I was kind of disappointed, considering it's called apple fritter. Fruity pebbles donut was tasty but didn't care for the cookie crisp donut. I feel like it was a totally different cereal. Overall, all the food was amazing and I would love to come back to try the other items they have.

One of the best places for sandwiches if you are craving for one . They also sell a variety of donuts and I have never been disappointed. Very reasonably priced and the service is quick and the staff is friendly . They have indoor as well as outdoor seating area . They get a lot of office crowd if you go during lunch hours . Some parking is available but I always walk so I never needed one . My favorite is cheese steak sandwich with grilled pineapple and jalapeños. They close at 2 so if you go too close to their closing time you may need to get a to go .

Apple Fritter is such a fun and whimsical place for brunch. Interior decor is very child like and has toys, planets and hot air balloons hanging from the roof and walls. When you enter, you wait in line to order in a small kiosk and then find seating. Indoor seating is limited but there is ample outdoor seating. Both indoors and outdoor seating are equally cold because the doors stay open so it doesn't really matter. As their name states they're known for their apple fritters, but they serve various other doughnuts as well. We did get to try their apple fritter and pumpkin fritter. Out of the two, Id still recommend the apple fritters over the pumpkin, due to the pumpkin's lack of flavor. For the food, their breakfast burrito is pretty good and substantial. I got the Westcoast Wrapper and recommend it with the chipotle sauce. It hits more once you add the tapatio on the table. Overall great place to grab food, catch up with friends and enjoy a nice sweet treat. Highly recommend.

    Look at these yummy donuts!!!

The name alone suggests you exactly what you're here for: Apple Fritters. When I stepped in, it was more like a brunch café. But then you will see a wide variety of donuts, especially the fritters everyone talks about. If you're coming for their apple fritters, don't arrive later than 11 AM because they will be gone before you know it. I tried their Banana Fritter and it was surprisingly fresh. You can hear the crunch with each bite. No artificial banana flavor here... there are actual banana pieces baked right in. If you enjoy banana bread, you'll love this. I wanted to try the Pumpkin Fritter too, but it was already sold out and this was on a weekday at 9 AM. Their Ube Crumb Donut was just okay. It was not bad, but nothing memorable about it. The Pistachio Almond donut, on the other hand, looked divine! Maybe I will get that next time. Definitely plan to arrive early, and keep in mind that parking can be tight. Weekends will lead you a line out the door. If you're wondering what to do in San Mateo or the Peninsula, these apple fritters alone are worth your time!

I grew up here. My family didn't brunch. Foster City or San Mateo were not brunch places. IHOP and Denny's were probably the closest things we knew. Times change. The landscape has changed. Enter Apple Fritter. One thing to know is that it is popular. Publicity from Check, Please! and the great food have put Apple Fritter on the Peninsula map. The apple fritters themselves are big and delicious. These are some of the reasons for the lines out the door. Oh, and the counter to order is right next to the door, so the stream of people just pours out into the small parking lot. At least the wait will give you plenty of time to scan the large menu. Lots of cafe drinks, hash, burgers, french toast, tacos, and burritos. How does that tiny kitchen back there do it? I had the spicy hash with chorizo. It was easily two meals for me. Tasted spicy enough and visibly spicy with the numerous slices of jalapeños mixed throughout. The passion fruit shake was thick. I should dock a star because it was too thick to sip at first, but I won't. We took home some apple and raspberry fritters. Very good! Service was also great too considering the volume of customers they handle every day. Felt like a busy atmosphere when we were there, likely the height of the Saturday brunch period just before 11am.

Small parking lot, you could miss it driving by. Found it looking for a late lunch. Breakfast place with many customers even during off hours, we went at 2pm. Foods had a lot of surgery item, a few lunch item. I think it is mostly take away coffee and donuts. Egg and chicken on glazed donut with frys was very good. French toast was very good. Small tables inside and outside. Ambiance like any other take away donut shop. Self service ice and bus your own tray. Make your order and get number on your table. Overall, 4 stars out of 5.

Crazy how some of these reviews get upset about how their food is GOOD and popular and sells out quickly and they're not as fast as chain restaurants. I personally love this spot!! Sure, the lines can get long but that just goes to show how good they are at what they do and that people love them (and it's the same for any popular spot in the bay imo) if you want one of their Apple Fritters you have to get there early--and once you get one you will immediately understand because they are DIVINE!! I also love their breakfast plates/burritos. The hipsterito is my favorite. The staff are all kind and friendly and they always give you some extra donut holes when you order pastries. The restaurant is cozy, with whimsical deand clean. If you want a signature apple fritter make sure to come early. Definitely recommend if you want to support a local small business.

Nice casual brunch spot, but be prepared to wait in line on the weekends! A counter order spot with a parking lot, they get busy. Unfortunately there's no split in the line if you're only ordering donuts and the line moves fairly slowly, but the food comes out quick once you sit. Their donuts are all delicious and they have a couple assorted options but we had specific ones in mind and chose our own. They dont tell you which they are out of, so if you have a friend with you I would suggest having them check out the window to see what they have left! Seating is first come first served, with indoor and outdoor covered seats. They have a variety of drink options, from coffee to Boba (which I've never tried). Their brunch items are all great and reminiscent of the classic diner food we love with a twist. Definitely recommend this place on a nice weekend for brunch if you have some time to enjoy it! Also, delicious donuts

This is an update from my last review for this place, which I did 10 years ago! I thought I should update because this place is still fantastic and my favorite dish is still the same as it has always been! First, we decided to get two doughnuts. I do love the fritters here, but I wasn't in the mood for that. We had an apricot jelly doughnut, and I also got a strawberry cream puff. Both were limited flavors, so they may not have them next time even I go in. They were both perfect doughnuts, and the fillings were also amazing. For my entree today, I strayed from my usual favorite (the spicy bacon hash) and got the Pigs Gone Wild Breakfast sandwich. I am glad I did because that sandwich is out of this world delicious. The sandwich is stacked with bacon, eggs, mushrooms, arugula, lots of cheese, and their chipotle mayo. I devoured it! The service here is pretty simple. They are expedient with bringing the food, but sometimes ordering I have trouble hearing the person behind the counter. The ambiance here is fun, with random retro pictures and toys adorning the walls. I think the only drawback can be the wait, which is sometimes pretty long. But once you order the food comes out very quickly!

Came here at 12:30 on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty. They have a small parking lot, which was really convenient! You order at the counter then take a seat and your food is brought to you. I got the OG scramble and my boyfriend got the spicy hash. I had a bunch of modifications for my OG scramble, and the staff were able to accommodate most of them which I appreciated! They had a lot of bread options and I went with the 9-grain wheat toast which was nicely toasted and pretty fluffy. I want to go back and try a different scramble because I felt the bell peppers were too prominent in the OG scramble, but it was a well balanced meal and kept me full! My boyfriend really liked the spicy hash. It was a super generous portion and had a cheese pull with every bite. He went with chorizo which had a great flavor, and paired well with the runny egg, cheese and chipotle sauce. We also had to get an apple fritter, and also gave the ube cake donut a try. The apple fritter was to die for. It was HUGE, nice and crispy and had a great cinnamon flavor. It is on the oily side, so I could only take a few bites until it felt like too much. For the ube cake donut, you had the option of having it glazed or crumbed and we went with glaze, but we wish we got the crumb instead. The donut was super moist, but the glaze seemed to be a bit overkill and masked the ube flavor. The donut reminded us of fruit loops. Not the worst donut, but if you're looking for something that's not too sweet, I'd steer away from this one. There was plenty of seating inside, and they had outdoor seating if you wanted as well! This place felt extremely comforting and I couldn't stop looking at all of the decorations inside. This is such a great breakfast/lunch spot and I will definitely be coming back

Oh geez I was so excited to try this place, but the line took forever!! There was probably like five of us in line around noon and the restaurant itself wasn't even crowded, but I think I waited ~30 minutes in the sun for my bf and I to order our food. Whether you were going to order brunch or get donuts, there was only one line. I felt bad because a dad with two young kids stood behind us, and I saw they were getting antsy for just a few donuts. There has to be a better way for dine-in customers and those that are just grabbing donuts! (Maybe a donut kiosk or separate line for donut only customers?) When we finally got up to the register, I was disappointed to see that the apple fritters were sold out... someone literally bought the last one in front of my eyes. I was surprised to see that their restaurant is literally called Apple Fritter and they ran out of them... Now about the food: OG Scramble with bacon: 4/5. Good sized portion with a generous amount of meat and veggies which I appreciated! A bit salty from the bacon, but expected. Many brunch places skimp out on the veggies and protein so it was nice to see that. The rye bread was delicious and fresh. Brunch-urrito with chorizo: 4/5. Again, good sized portion, and less salty than the scramble. I think the addition of sour cream and being stuffed with hashbrown, beans, cheese, eggs really helped balance the salt of the chorizo inside the burrito. Overall, decent food, but if you come here for brunch on the weekend, be prepared to wait in the long line outside, even if the place is not overly crowded. I think I would only come here if I saw no line outside. It was good, but not for the long wait, hence, I had to ding one star.

Are they still open 8-2 pm? hard to know what to rely on, and nobody answers the phone, vm full and there's nothing on the voicemail greeting that says anything about their open hours.

Yes they're open. They're pretty short staffed it seemed like the last time I visited. You're right they don't answer the phone. Both times that I went during covid I had to order there in person and wait around 20 mins or so.

I'm looking to bring a vegan friend here who will be visiting from out of town so that she can try garlic fries! Are the fries here Vegan-friendly, as in, no animal products are fried in the same oil?

No we are sorry we don’t serve vegan fries. Unfortunately we do cook some animal products in the same oil. Thank you for your inquiry.

What time do they have the donuts until?

Apple fritters run out early. Best to go before 11 to guarantee different flavors. Regular donuts are there usually all day.

Granted we came on Mother's day weekend for lunch, but the place was packed when we arrived. It's tucked in a little corner next to Osaka Marketplace by the water. We were lucky that a table outside was clearing out right when we were ordering. There was almost a few people waiting for a table at all times. The restaurant was kind of small, with only 5-8 tables inside (mainly for groups of 4 or less people). Outside there was several larger tables and the weather in the area is typically nice enough to dine outside. The staff seemed very stressed and under pressure. They were constantly running out orders and so they weren't very attentive to people coming in or waiting at the counter. Nonetheless we ordered a variety of things to share through the self-order kiosk. Between four people, we shared two appetizers and four entrees with some left over food. The siu mai and fish balls were as expected, nothing mind-blowing but the satay sauce was delicious and definitely necessary. Fried chicken wings were very crunchy exterior and moist inside, but the seasoning itself was a bit underwhelming in my opinion. Again, the included dipping sauce made the dish much more enjoyable. Lemongrass pork neck was flavorful and had that jowl texture that makes pork so succulent. The sweet chili sauce paired well for this simple dish. The fried egg addition is always nice. The bbq Iberian black pork was a little disappointing as the broth was a bit plain and the meat itself not as tender as we hoped. Noodles were decent. Cheesy corn pasta was an interesting fusion. The corn added sweetness while still retaining a savory taste from the sauce they used. A little creamy for my preference but I can see the appeal. HK style toast was unexpectedly good, but maybe because I had low expectations from the other items. There was a crisp exterior to the bread with fluffy interior, stuffed with peanut butter. The condensed milk is essential for this! Overall, neat idea that resembles many cafes in HK but average execution. We were hoping for more variety of dishes but it's alright for what they do have. It's nice diversification to the area.
