This bakery is tucked away in a small shopping plaza and worth seeking out. The pastries are made on site and delicious. They even have empanadas! I ordered an Americano and guava + cheese danish this morning. The danish had the perfect amount of guava to cheese ratio and wasn't overly sweet. The coffee is also good; just the right amount of kick. The staff are very friendly and try to complete orders in a timely manner. Plenty of parking, too! You should visit Dulzura soon!

Excellent Cuban pastries! Guava cheese pastry was the best (better than Porto's). So happy to have found this spot in San Mateo. Out of the way in a strip mall near a neighborhood so you need to drive (not walk in Downtown San Mateo). Good coffee too!

Came here again and am upping my review to 5 stars because the owner is such a nice guy. Even though this was only my second visit, he actually recognized me! He seemed very happy to see me again. :) This time, he showed me their lunch special, which seemed like a yummy breaded chicken cutlet on rice with a sauce and plenty of vegetables. I was tempted, but I already ate lunch for the day so I respectfully declined. I then got 2 cheese puffs, and he offered to warm them up for me, then said it was good to see me (how sweet!). When I got home and bit into a cheese puff, I was in love. Delightfully sweet with crunchy sugar crystals, but the cream cheese kept its tanginess. Really need to get this again. I keep saying I'm coming back to places in my reviews, but I'm for sure taking it a step further and becoming a regular here. The owner knows his regulars by name, which is so great to see!

I'm always on the lookout for new cafes and was happy to see this popped up on my local search. I appreciate that it's located in a low traffic area, hidden from foot traffic, a small feel local spot. I was enticed by their NICHE claim to being a Cuban cafe serving up a Cuban menu. I haven't been to Cuba nor have I been to a cafe in Cuba, but I was still amazed at their eclectic tropical offerings. From Guava to Passionfruit to Pineapple to Coconut flavors, I am impressed and eager to try more! I ordered the Guava & Cheese Toast and asked for light cream cheese and light guava spread. It was served as a sandwich with Cuban bread and the amount of cream cheese and guava was HUGE. So much that I couldn't eat it without wiping off most of it. Otherwise I loved the tasty toasted bread and the guava flavor! I also ordered a cortado with almond milk and it seemed watery? Kinda like a coffee with a splash of almond milk? I would have preferred they asked if I wanted it in a mug or not too. Otherwise, caffeine that I definitely needed! The man at the counter was lively and funny. Quick to help and converse. What really stood out though was the customers coming in who would stop and say good morning to me with a smile! This is NICHE!

Super cute little cafe that caught my eye as I was driving by the other day - on a Sunday at 4:30 - closed - so I made a point of coming today to try their taste of Miami - I ordered a cortadito (double espresso with some milk and sugar) - the coffee has a nice flavor to it and just enough sugar to make it fun without spiking the blood sugar - also ordered the beef empanada - it had a few more words in there but you get the idea - the pastry was nice and flakey and had a good flavor -beef had a little spice, and the flavor was good - it was a nice snack size between lunch and dinner - lady in the back caught my eye and smiled pleasantly - and the young men in the front were also personable - I think perhaps one was new, he was learning how to make the cortadito - I'd say they did a good job - thanks for the midafternoon pick me up - if you live nearby or even if you don't, come on by! Next time I want the guava cheese pastry yum yum

What a gem. I'm passing through town and found Dulzura Café. I tried the breakfast ham & egg sandwich. The bun was so fresh. It was a difficult decision because there's a great variety of empanada's, quiche, breakfast burritos & sandwiches! Fresh fruit cups too. If you can't decide the friendly staff will fill a box to to go

There is a photo wall inside & facade along the outside to take pictures with. We only came for counter service. Everything is nicely displayed in cases & a menu is above the counter. During our visit, there was a sign that the donut machine was out of order. Along with sweets & drinks, they sell Sanrio merchandise. There is seating just outside the store. Pop music plays. We didn't get acknowledged or greeted when we entered the space & began to browse. Once we were ready to make our purchase, a staffer approached & was friendly. There was so much cuteness to choose from! We purchased a Pompompurin cookie & a location specific Hello Kitty keychain. Though it felt really hard, the kiddo enjoyed the cookie. The keychain is a nice quality. They only have a cashless payment system & receipts are sent digitally to your phone.

We decided to stop by their takeaway counter to get a feel for their offerings, & let's just say my curiosity is officially satisfied. We took a naughty peek into the very cute & very pink Bow Room, & struck eating there off our wish list. If what we sampled is any indication of the taste & quality at tea, I'm glad I avoided it (& the larger price tag, as well.) My 5-piece Macaron Set cost $18. The flavors were vanilla, passion fruit, strawberry, pistachio, & chocolate. Each one had a colored white chocolate bow in the corner in true Hello Kitty style. Weak flavoring, extremely sugary, & the texture was not that of an outstanding macaron. One of my companions ordered an artificial-tasting beverage. I'm a Hello Kitty girly at heart, but I'll stick to their notebooks & pencils, & save my moolah for sweets at better bakeries.

Parking nearby is horrendous, super busy even on the weekdays before the rush hour so I can't imagine weekends when people are out or other high traffic times. Get ready to make some rounds and pay for parking and be careful since there's very specific signage and times. The cafe itself is cute and cozy. Front area is a gift shop with lots of cat themed gifts and goodies like keychains, stickers, and such, and also some items from local and small artists too, which is neat. The cafe also has community events like movie showings ("The Cat Returns" was one of them which is a great choice) and cat yoga. If you're local, you can also get a time stamp if you are a frequent visitor. Definitely follow their socials for more information. There's reservations online and you can also do walk ins if it's not super busy. You can book for a 55 minute visit or a 30 minute visit. PRO-TIP: There's a discount for students, so if you want to be surrounded by some feline friends while you study or relax, great place to do so. You can hang your coat on the rack and there's a mini shelf area for your shoes. So you gotta walk in with socks! With each visit you can either get a hot cup of tea or a cold can or box drink from their fridge (sparking water, juices, etc.). Very refreshing and you can enjoy it in the cat area too. Sanitize your hands before and after visiting. There's lots of cats hiding around, sleeping, walking around, and some are super friendly and will go into your lap. There's toys you can play with the cats with and there's a wall of adoptable cats. Lots of seats or you can opt to sit on the floor with the cats too. There's relaxing lo-fi music throughout too. Pretty cool that they rescued 2 cats from Qatar and neat that we got to see them. As with all cats, some can be a bit spicy but it's usually just a warning teeth rub. I own cats so there's nothing new. I'm horribly allergic to the cat that specifically lives in my house, but I didn't get an allergy here, meaning that the cats are clean and well taken for. My favorite was a large sleepy orange boy, Ron (permanent non-adoptable resident) that was hanging out next to me the entire time.

Ownership changed hands as they closed in Aug 2023 and reopened in Dec 2023; I understand that it's still *mostly* the same although I've only ordered delivery here and there in more recent years. Since Stonemill opens at 10 AM, I arrived around 9:40 AM. Shortly afterwards, a long line started to form behind me. Once inside, my friend and I placed our matcha orders and were seated in a cozy nook by the window. Despite the steady flow of customers throughout the morning, our drinks were brought out in about ten minutes. My matcha latte with oat milk was served in a large ceramic mug, and it was certainly one of the smoothest matcha lattes I've had in SF (where there is no shortage of contenders!). The matcha itself was slightly earthy, and the latte had a hint of sweetness to balance the flavor. I did not order food this time, but I saw several people around us order the Japanese breakfast set and matcha cream pie, which I will have to try on my next visit. Despite the constant line to enter the cafe, the ambiance inside remained relaxed and welcoming, perfect for savoring our matcha.

I appreciate the Italian vibes and vibrant decor that is meant to simulate a European cafe. The inside is spacious and there is an outdoor patio. We waited in line briefly to order the Mille Feuille and Tiramisu at the register. The Mille Feuille: 3/5 It was pretty but I don't think it measured up to my expectations. I was hoping that the flaky pastry would be fresher and crispier. Wouldn't get it again. Tiramisu: 4/5 Solid tiramisu and no complaints. Seemed freshly made and would get again. Overall, I liked the vibe and ambiance of the cafe for catching up with friends and it's open late! My friend liked the coffee too. Everything else about Cafe Venecia is a problem, and it has been a problem every time I've gone, including today. The outside tables are never cleared. Crumbs, coffee rings, somebody's abandoned napkin. No one comes out. Ask an employee about it and they'll point you toward a rag you're welcome to fetch and use yourself. That's the arrangement here -- you buy the coffee, you bus the table, you wipe it down, and the staff watches you do it. Today I asked for a bowl of water for my dog. The answer was no. Not "we're slammed, give me a minute," just no. So I asked whether they could put a little water in a to-go container instead, and was told, "Well, I can't give you a to-go container because we don't do them." Sit with that one. They don't do to-go containers, which means everything in the place comes in real dishware, which means the building is full of cups and bowls. They had exactly what I was asking for. They simply weren't going to hand one over, and they made sure I understood that by the tone. So: a café on University Avenue, with sidewalk seating, in a town where half the foot traffic is people walking dogs, has decided that tap water is outside its operating capabilities, and table cleaning is outside its operating capabilities, while charging Palo Alto prices is somehow well within them. There are a dozen places within three blocks that manage the coffee and the manners at the same time. Go to one of those. One star, and the star is for the beans.

The room is quietly elegant, its Middle Eastern influences expressed through considered décor rather than theatrical excess. There is an appealing sense of decorum here; a place designed to encourage lingering rather than turnover. The coffee is similarly assured. Turkish coffee possesses the requisite depth and bitterness, while the rose-cardamom-honey latte introduces floral sweetness and spice with admirable restraint. The pastries and sweets--particularly the baklava and kunafeh--provide a luxurious counterpoint without descending entirely into confectionery excess. At roughly $10-$20 per person, Sama occupies a sensible price point for an experience that feels considerably more considered than the average neighborhood coffee shop.
