Amazing food and ambiance! Came here for lunch and really enjoyed it. It has a retro vibe, which I feel is pretty rare for the Bay Area. It was super empty when I arrived (late 11am ish) but it picked up really fast. There's tons of seating inside, including at the counter. The staff is also great and the food came out super fast. The food was really good. I'm quite picky about my burgers, and theirs was amazing. The meat is tender and flavorful, the bun is soft, and the dressing compliments everything well. In addition, I got a milkshake and chili cheese fries. The milkshake felt like 3 servings, so there's definitely a ton of value. I thought I under ordered, but the portions were so big that I had to take it to go. I'd recommend this place and I'll definitely be going again! read more

We visited this place two times. Both times we got our food to go. The first time, we ordered a mushroom burger and French fries with chili con carne. We loved the burger, but we didn't like the fries. Not because there was anything wrong with the preparation, we just didn't enjoy the style. The second time, we ordered the same mushroom burger again, and I also got the teriyaki pineapple burger. This time we chose the garlic fries. Unfortunately, the second visit wasn't as enjoyable. My husband said the mushroom burger was pretty dry and not as good as the first time. As for the pineapple teriyaki burger, I might have had higher expectations, but I didn't feel any distinct flavors. It was kind of bland, and one of the buns was very wet and soggy, which wasn't pleasant. The garlic fries were okay, but as you can see in the picture, there was a lot of garlic piled on top. I wish it had been distributed more evenly, because grabbing fries along with chunks of garlic by hand isn't very comfortable. Overall, the prices are affordable, which is a plus. Cute atmosphere, they happen to have Halloween decorations up and it was fun to see! I tried their seasonal pumpkin milkshake!!! Soooo good, was enjoying the graham cracker crust flavor with pumpkin. The diner vibe has been beckoning to the nostalgic part of me as I grow with my kids so give them the same experience. I love this location way more than Menlo Park. I'm bummed they took away the options to add your own produce as I didn't like that option pre covid (tastes and opinions have changed). The burger bowl with the ahi sauce is so filling and delicious. I wish they sold that sauce separately so I can put on my breakfast. Seriously consider it, I'd buy it by the bottle. Cool burger joint in San Mateo. I got the double cheeseburger and it felt massive. Might try one of their single patty options next time. The garlic fries are just ok. More shredded parm than actual garlic. Still good though. Like that they can bring your order to O'Neils next door if you're hanging out there. Their bacon burger and pineapple teriyaki burger are my favorites. The diner-like interior has booth seating and a good corner window seat. I've been to this place only twice and in only the past year. I think what mostly bothers me about this place is that the price is a bit steep. A single burger is $10.99 and I believe a single cheeseburger is $12.99. If you want to add an extra patty, it's $7. The patty is quite small to begin with. So seven bucks for an extra one is a little outrageous. This last time last week I ordered the bacon burger and my wife ordered the avocado burger and a side of fries. I think it came up to about 42 bucks and change. As like the first time we were here the patty was very small for what you get. They're chinsing out which is what I don't like... The french fries were nice and hot but they were twice fried and not made to order, so they didn't have the good flavor. The burger itself didn't have much flavoring but the bacon was really good. Also, hers and mine were cooked the same. I asked for medium rare and I believe she asked for medium. Both burgers were also very messy, they need to squeeze out some of the juices prior to serving. It was just dripping all over the container. I can't remember if this was the case the last time I don't think it was. Like the first time I was leaving feeling a bit hungry still... This place seems to have a following so to each their own. I definitely think there can be room for improvement. The staff was very nice. The location's clean. There's a parking lot adjacent to the building. It was a little cold inside. And we didn't wait long for our order. They do use fresh ingredients which is a positive. And I do like to see a business that hires a good amount of people. I don't mind paying what I paid for because of that fact. But I shouldn't be leaving hungry and and the burger should be a little more substantial in accordance with the price. I don't think we'll be coming back. That's not just sway you away from not coming here. Like I said they do have a following so it's worth at least checking it out for yourself. read more

I have driven past this for years and never stopped by so this week I was in San Mateo and had to kill some time so it was suggested to me by a local business. I didn't do anything special just a burger with everything and it was a tasty burger for sure. I was thinking of In-N-0ut earlier as I was next door to one but the parking lot was a mess so decided to head to San Mateo. I was immediately thinking when I saw that burgers were starting at $11 that I should have just done a double double for $6 bucks, but I was pleased when he asked me how I wanted my burger cooked. Great diner for comfort food for the kids and to get the diner experience. Ordered the tuna melt, burgers, signature salad, sweet potato fries and garlic fries. Everything was tasty. We got the booth which was great for our party of 8. The smell of grease inside the restaurant can get overwhelming after a while. And the temp was really warm inside. This review is solely for the burger bowls. Service was fine, and I was able to order ahead so picking it up was fairly smooth. The bowls are relatively inexpensive (roughly $13) and filling. I got the veggie option and didn't mind the garden burger patty. I wasn't a fan of the greens though, and wish there was an option for darker leafy greens, like arugula or kale. The toppings are also a bit lacking, although I did opt for avocado. I probably would not recommend the burger bowls, but will need to try other items on the menu. read more

I had lunch here with my spouse just before lunch rush started. I got the turkey melt with Swiss and a mint chocolate chip shake, spouse had the shrimp and chips. I could not have fries; I'm allergic to fish and seafood and they cook their fries in the same oil as the seafood - but I wouldn't have known that if we hadn't started to ask for my spouse's fries on the side due to my allergy; they don't post this fact anywhere. The turkey melt was good. The shake was basically extra, cold flavored milk - it was not frozen enough to really be a milkshake. My spouse reported the shrimp and fries were tasty but the cocktail sauce was watered down and pretty horrible. Staff were friendly and efficient. We walked in and did not have to wait long before placing our order with the cashier. We ordered several items on the menu and the food was served shortly after we sat down at our table. Nice and crispy with French fries with a perfect medium cut, not stupid shoestrings or skinny, and not wedge cuts, just your average fries. The real thing that brought it home for me? Can't believe I haven't reviewed a San Mateo staple! This has been here forever. I came here after I graduated from Aragon which was a whiiiiile ago. Safe to say the quality of the burgers never changed! I went with a patty melt with pepperjack cheese and mushrooms which was surprisingly filling. I asked for medium rare but got medium instead which is no big deal but I like my burgers a little more pink on the outside. Flavors of the burger are always on point. I'd say the patty size is about 6 oz of ground beef. Probably use 80/20 but if the owner responds to this review, you can correct me if I'm wrong! Everything is cooked to order. Sweet potato fries WITH the spicy aji sauce was the highlight of the meal. My wife and I LOVED the aji sauce, we wanted to order a bottle of it but not sure if that's sold separately. I was told that the sauce was made in-house! Perfect amount of kick. It was like an avocado crema kinda? Hard to describe, really good on the fries and burger. My wife scarfed down her pineapple teriyaki burger in less than 5 min, a testament to how great the burger was. And how hungry she was lol. I didn't get a milkshake this time around, but from what I can remember, their milkshakes are bomb too. Wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon. They have a covered outdoor seating area in the back. There is one bathroom located through the kitchen behind the dishwashing station. No garbages to throw anything away, just leave finished meal on table and it'll be bussed accordingly. This has been the go to spot for burgers for the past 15 years at least! The meat is always quality, the fries and onion rings always on point! Milkshakes are fire! It's still got the old school diner type of vibe. Eating in is good because everything is fresh and hot quick service, but even delivery is good from here. This is legit one of those old but gold burger spots. read more

The burgers here are so juicy and I love the simplicity of them. Nothing is over complicated but you get to pick from a few different burger options. The menu is definitely on the pricier end, but everything tastes fresh! It is a cute old timey themed diner. Order at the counter, grab a seat, and the food comes out pretty quickly. I've had the avocado burger and the bacon cheeseburger a handful of times. Milkshakes are some of the best thing on the menu. Skip the garlic fries, but definitely get the onion rings! I had a burger with swiss cheese and I have to say, the tomatoes on this burger were hands down the best burger joint tomatoes I've ever been lucky enough to get, ripe red all the way thru and tasting like fresh off the vine. Really the perfect kick if you like tomato on your burger. I did not try their sides this time, I was not hungry enough that day, but I will be trying them next time. Terrific restaurant, but they close CRAZY EARLY !! I'm in there recently. I arrived about 7:45. 15 minutes prior to closing. The place was packed. People were waiting in line, people trying to get in, meanwhile, they're trying to shut the place down! That is NO way to run a business. Stay open at least until 9 PM, 10 would be preferable. Why is In-N-Out so busy all the time? They're open late! OK, now that I've gotten that off my chest, they have great food, terrific hamburgers, and french fries. Sadly, they used to keep the condiments out where you could get to them, now you have to pester them if you want an extra tomato, or something like that. NO they do NOT have what EVERYONE wants, a Detroit style Coney Island. They have all kinds of hot dogs, but they do NOT have a Detroit style Coney Island. Anyway, it's a great place. Since it's in downtown San Mateo, parking is tricky but it's doable! There is street parking and nearby parking garages/lots. Whenever we order through DoorDash, the orders are always made perfectly. We've never had anything missing from the order. I'm a huge fan of the avocado burger bowl. It comes with a burger patty and half an avocado on top of a bed of mixed greens.
