I've only been to this location once so my review is only based on that one experience. Stopped in on the way upstate to grab a quick bite. Generally a huge fan of shake shack. The burger and fries were great as always. The service was ok, but not as good as you usually see at shake shack. I didn't see a manager on the floor, not sure if that was a driver, but it may have been. When ordering, the cashier took out a voucher for a shake and asked if he'd like a free shake on his next visit - he says sure - she says ok, then please make a $2 donation and the voucher is yours. I have no problem with a store seeing to raise funds for a cause, but this is not the way to do it. You're trying to make someone uncomfortable into a donation. We sat outside. I was there for maybe 35 minutes while my husband ordered and after we sat down to eat. During that time no one came to wipe down the tables which needed it. I've been here numerous times before, but this was the first time there was barely a line that I didn't even have time to settle on which Shake I wanted before it was my turn to order. The cashier was super nice and answered my questions about a couple of their shakes and recommended the first one I asked about. My only complaint is that my buzzer went off before the order was even completed so I was standing around the pick-up counter for a couple of minutes and my friend got her order before I did even though her buzzer went off way after mine. We tried the bacon cheddar fries for the first time and I was skeptical about it because I usually don't enjoy liquid cheese, but my friend and I both agreed that these fries were really good. Had a Shack Burger, the patty is THIN, was super salty in spots, burnt in others (not charred, crunchy burnt), and a Vanilla shake for $11.39, which had my stomach and guts doing somersaults all night long. For a place with the first word in its name being "Shake," I am surprised by the low quality Vanilla shake that tasted and melted in a way inconsistent with a shake made of quality Ice Cream and Milk. 5-Guys clearly could show SShack plenty in how to make a Vanilla shake, for that matter a burger as well. At least at 5-Guys you have a list of options to customize your burger to taste. Not a single customization is shown on the SShake menu. For example, I asked to have mustard, and was told there were packets (which is okay). The restaurant is like an echo chamber, maybe meant to feel like there's activity or energy, but feels more like a center city bus terminal with a thousand different competing voices. You have to wait uncomfortably in the echo chamber pressed with others doing the same to order and get your order, but there aren't any peanuts to help pass the time and mute the hunger (a nice 5-guys touch). I've never seen so many people who just don't seem to care working under the same roof. It definitely doesn't reflect well in management. I have been to the shake shack franchise in Grand Central, Battery Park City (which is by the World Trade Center), Columbus Ave, and 86th St. I still love the one in the battery but this place is the best place to go for a late night burger. The best things here is the shakes and the fries. The burgers here are in no way a comparison to Wendy's the only thing Shake Shack in general could do is to bring the burger prices down a little bit. I realize it's organic and home grown but for a burger shake and fries you will spend at least $20. The one in cross county is down to earth and very friendly, the crew is a tad young but still good. Cross County has an extensive history of COMPLETELY RUINING beloved chain restaurants and franchises. Burger King, Olive Garden, Panda Express, TGI Friday's, Applebee's, the list goes on. A quick Yelp search reveals almost all of Cross County's eateries struggling to reach 4 or even 3 stars. And as much as I cherish Shake Shack, I have endured first hand the DISASTER that is Shake Shack Woodbury Commons. On a warm summer Wednesday afternoon I just so happened to be at Cross County, and the line just so happened to be fairly short (by Shake Shack standards- still out the door, but not out of the outdoor dining area). I was hungry and jonesing for a quality burger (and God KNOWS I wasn't getting that at BGR), so I decided to give Shake Shack a shot. The atmosphere of Shake Shack is special because almost every location fosters a certain kind of feeling. A feeling shared by first timers and seasoned veterans alike. Simply being inside a Shake Shack generates a medley of excitement, hunger, eagerness, and anticipation. These feeling exist because of hype and reputation, but most importantly- because of Shake Shack's ability to live up to their hype and reputation. The service is extraordinary, I cannot speak highly enough on how efficient, organized, and prepared the entire staff is. I received my food in a timely manner, and it was cooked to Shake Shack's high standards. I can easily see the staff here equipped to handle the volume of customers Shake Shack often generates. The food is outstanding. I'd like to take a moment to talk about the Shake Shack Burger- by which I mean, the actual meat patty. Shake Shack produces a truly modern burger. The Shake Shack burger was conceptualized with the help of America's most celebrated butcher Pat Lafrieda. The secret proprietary blend is rumored to consist of short rib, chuck, sirloin, and brisket. The (undisclosed) fat to lean ratio is at just the right balance to create a juicy burger that maintains the perfect amount of size when cooked. The way the patty is cooked is also very 21st century. The fresh 4 ounce patty is taken out from the refrigerator- still cold and SMASHED forcefully onto the grill. Smashing the burger onto the grill allows the patty to cook in its own fat and form a beautiful crust on the outside. Burgers are just as delicious as you'd expect but what makes this place extra special is the available seating both inside AND out. It's clean, not crowded and the best part is, nobody wears huge hiking backpacks that will smash you in the face while you're here. The only issue I have with this place, much like every Shake Shack, is the long ass line that can snake out the door even on non-busy days. Came here last night and waited thirty minutes on line to try the Shake Shack in Yonkers. I didn't expect much because it is a fast food "Chain Restaurant" and located in Cross County. Cross County has a reputation of destroying chain restaurant names. I don't know what it is, but for some reason the restaurant quality in Cross County is always very low. Applebees, Fridays, Olive Garden, Panda Express, Red Lobster, Boston Market - the list is long. I will admit the wait is long, but for fast food - it surely is surprisingly, really good. If you have never had the opportunity to try Shake Shack before, I certainly urge you to seize the chance to go now. I was impressed with how delicious my food was. What is nice about the Shake Shack location is that you can also be seated outdoors. It gives the location a nice touch. The service here was great, everyone was very quick and friendly. My burger was extremely juicy, and cooked to perfection. My fries were crispy and salted perfectly. The chocolate shake I ordered was also thick and delicious - not watered down. My friend had the double burger and enjoyed it as well. He ordered wine with his meal and also said it was very good. It was a nice touch to have with dinner. Only thing that was nasty in my opinion and it happen for me trying to be adventurous, was trying that Mushroom/ Burger hybrid...NASTY. LOL bit into it and some gooey substance came out the burger.
