Every time I passed by at night, their display cases were empty! I do see they're on TooGoodToGo, so maybe that's why. My curiosity got to me on if these baked goods were actually good. Options wise, there wasn't anything particular worth grabbing. They seem to offer Japanese inspired or influenced pastries. I got their Mochi Taro Bun ($2.95), which I was intrigued by the mochi in bun. It looked like they used wheat for this bread, which contributed to lack in moisture, but the chewiness of the mochi, laced with the sweet pasty texture of the taro, makes up for it. Their Iced Milk with Oat Milk ($3.29) also wasn't too shabby. I wish the bakery had more options, but I think they're worth a visit for a more modern take on traditional Chinese bakeries in the area. And for sure if you manage to score their TooGoodToGo deal. read more

Very unique bakery that stands out from all the other bakeries because of the modern ideas/recipes. A little bit more upscale and pricier but I definitely would recommend checking this out when you're in flushing! read more

The cakes are really cute and esthetically pleasing. I like this bakery for their mini cakes, it's a really good size for small/intimate occasions; or if you want to celebrate with a very small group of family/friends. The price is acceptable but I would say it's slightly high for a small cake. The cakes tastes pleasant, it's not overly sweet or heavy. read more

Service was quick, some of the pastries I've tried were good but the cakes were the best. Ordered the taro purple rice cake and the matcha cake and both were a hit with fam since they often don't like to eat too sweet of a dessert. Highly recommend ordering cakes from here!! read more

Stopped by to check out the new bakery in Flushing - serving up a variety of pastries from a mixture of Japanese, Korean and Chinese influences... I'm the middle is a giant display of croissant/puff pastries - from sweet to savory. The bakery is very spacious and bright. The seating area is very nice. Almost forgot I was in downtown Flushing..... I can tell they spent a lot on the decor... even the trays and tongs were nice. read more

Great new bakery that just opened today! I went later on in the day so many shelves were empty compared to the morning but whatever they had left tasted so good! I'm a fan of their baked breads and pastries. I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into the green Sichuan pepper cheese chicken as well as the Japanese crab bread. Nice savory elements inside delicate clouds of bread. The fruit pastries were light with fresh fruit, airy custard filling and flaky crust. I also got an almond croissant which was good, but I prefer ones with an inside filling like at Breads Bakery. These croissants are beautifully made though. They also sell cream puffs at 4 for $6.99. Unfortunately they don't sell it individually (at this time, maybe ever) so I didn't get any because most of the flavors sold out. Flavors include: matcha, strawberry, mango, blueberry and cookie butter/Speculoos. Everyone was in line to buy cakes which looked amazing! One person bought a large cake and it was packaged so pretty in a see-through plastic container with black and gold ribbon. Prices are higher than other bakeries around Flushing. However, Shakalaka has some creative items and flavors that aren't easy to find, so I will be back to try more. read more

Shakalaka? when i first heard of this name, I couldn't help but to think of that one song; but quite frankly, this bakery is everything you THOUGHT you knew about about bakery but MUCH more. Shakalaka Bakery offers not only variety that one would expect from their typical Asian bakery counter-part but distinct flavours that one would not think of. First, this bakery's design is very simple and clean; the place is very spacious despite being in a more narrow setting in the ever-bustling neighborhood of Flushing. Also, the ingredient they use; most people initially would be like "damn look at the price tag though"; but when you take a bite into it (i.e. their croissant, and other baked bread), you will nod to yourself on the inside and goes "ok, i kinda see why now" Now, don't get me started on their cake creation; you think you knew Asian bakery until you tried their goods. For example, pork floss on cake? when i first heard this I was like "what?" but do not just let me be the one to tell you, try it! it's delicious! Also, their taro cream cake with the purple rice? it most def hit the spot. The taro cream covered the outside of the cake is not too sweet (it's hand-made!), and their fluffy cake is stuffed with the creamy taro filling pair with the purple rice to give that right amount of sweetness and the layers of flavor satisfaction! They also have different size option(s) for their cake so you won't have to break a leg and an arm in order to consider for a budget friendly special occasion. Quite frankly, with the ever-rising price inflation, their price point is acceptable. read more

Cakes here are more on the less sweet side, which is fine for the cheesecake, but feel like the egg tart needs a bit more sugar. Cheesecake is pretty good; it's pretty interesting with the purple rice. I don't really like the crust of egg tart. The strawberry pork floss is weird, in a negative way imo. The strawberry tastes like strawberry milk in vn (not sure here cuz I never drink strawberry milk ever again lol) and that flavor just doesn't go with the pork floss. read more

I bought the blueberry cake and Thai tea cake to a 6-person party. Two mini cakes together are enough to share, but it's not easy to cut mini cakes without them falling. Although the cake is spongy, it's a bit dry, the texture is odd comparing to the chiffon cake I make at home. I am not a fan of the cream/buttercream texture either. I don't think I will come back or recommend. read more

Shakalaka Bakery offers breads, buns, coffee, cakes and baked goods. Among my favorite are their cakes and cream puffs. I love their cakes, they are so delicious! It's an airy and light, not dense. I believe they offer 5+ flavors you can choose from. They offer same day morning order and pick it up in the afternoon. They also offer petite cakes which can feed 1-2 people. These come in modern Asian flavors such as Thai Tea. There's seating and bathroom available in the back. read more

One of my favorite Chinese modern bakeries in downtown Flushing. They have a variety of in-house new-school pastries and cakes. It feels clean and bright inside with indoor seating in the back. The service is friendly and fast as well. I like their interesting selection of pastries, kind of like a Korean bakery with innovative desserts and pastries. Their basque burnt cheesecake cakes are definitely worth it for an event and comes in several flavors including matcha and oreo. They even have a mini Thai tea cake! The price seems decent for this type of bakery. They also have quite an extensive drink menu, great to pair with the many delectable options. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Bathroom available. Indoor seating and takeout available. Open decently late. Bon appetit! read more

I got a blind box from this bakery. I just paid $5.43 on the app which named TooGoodToGo. I have to say they put 5 breads in the box, that is more than my expected. I want to give them 5 stars! Really! But when I found the breads with dried meat floss, I stopped my finger. I think they forgot something very important. They should tag the labels for their products. I think it's really necessary! Even though I don't have the right to choose what items in the box, but I should know what the ingredients are. read more

My friend always bought baked goods here and I heard good reviews about this bakery. So I decided to give it a try and bought a birthday cake for my friend. Came here on the day before Chinese new year, and so many people buying cakes!!!!! Was pretty surprised because I don't know people eat cakes before CNY. Since I went at around 4pm , there aren't many selections left. Saw this taro cake and fell in love with the purple look. Simple and pretty. Luckily I got the one of the last two! In terms of the taste, I think it's not bad, I could taste the taro flavor (not super strong tho) and the almond on the top matched with the flavor. However cream is a bit too much. Love the size of the cake, good for 5-6 people. I saw that they also have sesame flavor, want to try that next time read more

My new favorite spot to grab a cake! I received 2 small cakes for my birthday last year and it was absolutely amazing! Pretty decent bakery. Can be hard to find a seat but the food court is pretty close. The cakes all looked tasty!

Unique pastries and cakes! My fav ones are the pork floss mini egg cakes, a little pricy for what it is though. I recently got to try the ferrero rocher cake, it wasn't as chocolatey as I expected. I would've enjoyed a more rich chocolate creamy taste which it seemed to lack but the cake was soft and there were hazelnuts in between. I'd be back and try other mini cakes next time. read more

Relatively new bakery to open up along Main St with a more elevated vibe (and price tag) than your typical Asian bakery. The interior is warm with light wooden accents and feels spacious for being on such a small lot. They were well known for their ""lunchbox/bento box"" cakes that were all the craze a few months back and they do look adorable in the display. I've bought one of the larger cakes with taro filling for someone's birthday once and it got the ultimate compliment of ""not too sweet."" The cake was spongy and airy, while the cream was a smooth silky texture. The taro paste filling was the standout, and had us going back for bite after bite. I came back today to try the pastries out front and was disappointed. Got two croissants (mango cream and black sesame cream), both of which looked great, until I cut into them. For some reason, the croissants were cut length-wise and there was just a smidgen of cream in the center. It unfortunately made the inside of the croissants have a soggy-ish texture. While the outside layers were still really flaky, it got pretty doughy and chewy once you bite into the whole thing which was pretty unpleasant. The cream was also a let-down. It may have just been a bad batch, but it was definitely overwhipped and resulted in tiny clumpy bits that ruined the texture. For the price, I expected better quality/consistency in the baked goods. read more

Strawberry pork floss - very interesting. First time trying a pork floss pastry. This was on a sponge castella cake with strawberry flavored pork floss. When you first eat it it tastes like eating a strawberry sponge cake. But towards the end, you can taste the pork floss and it gets alittle bit chewy. If it wasn't for the pork floss, I'd get it again. Matcha roll - need more flavor here but can say you taste abit of matcha Egg tart - I want to say this egg custard was steamed. It wasn't gooey, and the texture was fine.. but the taste seemed abit off to me. The chia seed roll - this one had caramalized walnut or pecans with ham. Pass for me. Lacks flavor and doesn't go well together The other two items have no flavor whatsoever. Also got the Thai iced tea cake - this sponge cake base was good but can barely taste the Thai tea flavor. Service was strange - the workers do know English but dismissive in terms of explaining what each pastry was Ambiance is not bad. Relatively clean. Has seating inside. Won't be returning here but in the event I do; will give an update. Overall this bakery lacks flavor and will rate it as 4/10. read more

This place was amazing! The food is extremely high quality and the prices are more than reasonable. It feels like a fancy French bakery with the prices of a local Asian bakery. Pork floss is delicious. A pork floss cake is interesting. A strawberry pork floss cake is intriguing af. After coming across various photos and videos, I knew I had to try it. Lookswise, the strawberry floss cake is reminiscent of the good humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bars. There are small pieces of strawberries intermixed with the floss covering the cake, giving a nice contrast of sweet and salty with every bite. The texture difference between the two also makes for a good mouthfeel. On the other hand, the thai tea cake was a bit of a disappointment. It was lacking the oomph that thai tea drinks have. I wish that the flavor of the thai tea was stronger; it was way too subtle. In between the sponge cake layers were strawberries, keeping it refreshing and preventing the cream from being too cloying. Both cakes were light and not too sweet. If you're looking to get the 4inch mini cakes, especially the more popular ones, I recommend going early. Only two strawberry floss and thai tea cakes were available as of 11:30AM on a Friday. The cashier was friendly and accommodating. She double checked to see if the cakes were correct and was able to switch out one that wasn't. Despite there being many customers and a full house, everything was neat and clean. read more

New bakery in downtown Flushing - warm wood interior, brightly lit display cases, and a small but clean sitting area in the back. Service was perfunctory but okay. We bought items to go. The flavors of the baked savory and sweet items seem to have Chinese, Japanese, and Korean influences. We came in for the egg tarts but they were sold out by 3pm on a Sunday. We'll have to come back. We got a collection of croissants (matcha, black sesame cream, and chocolate), and three tarts. The croissants were devoured quickly - sorry no pictures. Light, fluffy, and fresh, the sesame cream was like whipped cream with black sesame flecks, surprisingly good. The matcha croissant was lightly dusted with the green tea powder and was filled with matcha cream. I give this the ultimate Chinese compliment of "not too sweet." The chocolate croissants had bars of okay chocolate baked in but it's not fluffy or airy - more dense. The tarts were mostly layers of croissant bread in tart form with a small dollop of pudding and different fruit toppings. They were tasty but mostly buttery crust. The price is more expensive than other local Flushing bakeries, but the goods are unique. We'll be back for the egg tarts and to try the savory breads. read more

Great new bakery that opened up on Roosevelt Avenue near the 7 train! I picked up 4 different breads on my first visit. The Sichuan Green Pepper Cheese Bread ($3.59), whole Wheat Garlic Cheese Bread ($2.89), Japanese Crab Meat Bread ($2.59), and Tuna Cheese Bread ($2.89). I really love cheese OK? All of them tasted fresh and unique. My favorite was the Japanese Crab Meat Bread. The crabmeat is juicy, with the right amount of sauce. There's some lettuce underneath the crabmeat, which adds a nice crunch, and some shredded seaweed on top. The bakery also has a wide selection of cream puffs, croissants, cakes, and other pastries. Definitely looking forward to swinging by again soon to try their other items! read more

I've never been here before, but my girlfriend brought me some pastries to try and let me know that it's a new bakery open in Flushing. She got me a dessert croissant (croissant with whipped cream and fruit) and a savory pastry (garlic flavor with a garlic cream filling). Both pastries were delicious! I ate the croissant yesterday, and today, I microwaved the garlic pastry and ate it and enjoyed them thoroughly. The croissant is flaky and the whipped cream tastes home-made. It's sweet but not too sweet, and the fruit is fresh. The garlic pastry is unique and is like a fancy garlic bread. The garlic flavor is strong, and the cream inside is fluffy (almost like whipped cream) and tastes like garlic too. I'd love to eat these pastries again and try new pastries from here too! read more

Went here for the egg tart that went viral! It was so worth the trip to this specific bakery in Flushing

One of the more interesting flushing bakeries, with novelty cakes you won't find elsewhere . Bougie vibe with prices to match.

Thought it'd be the same as all the other similar bakeries around here but each of these pieces feel a lot more intricate and deep in flavor! I grabbed 2 pastries to go so didn't get to enjoy the ambiance, but it looked very nice and seems like it would be a fun place to study. I got the hot dog bun and the red bean bun. The hot dog tasted pretty standard and smelled very strongly of meat. The red bean bun had red bean layered throughout the pastry so every bite was packed with flavor. Would highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

Solid average chinese bakery with a lot of fun cake options. I got the taro cake which was solid, nothing too crazy.
