4/23/2023 We have been to Broken Bow every year since 2009. my husband and I spent our honeymoon here. This area has exploded with tourists. Which makes the local restaurants become crazy busy as we experienced today. Long wait time, food was good, but Shady Oaks pancakes we didn't get to enjoy due to they were out! Since the area is exploded with tourists I think the local restaurants need to do some updates to be able to keep up with the crowd. Because when your waitress says in one order we did 10 BIG pancakes now we're out of batter. I don't see how your supposed to serve breakfast to people until 2pm. Need to make changes in my opinion! read more

The food was served to most of us cold. It wasn't very good & the service was poor. Half of our table got our meals & it took about an additional 5-10 for the other reviews. We didn't get our drinks refilled once. Server didn't check on us after the meals were brought to the table. read more

This is a regular stop for us everytime we come to the area. Great down home breakfast. Biscuits and gravy, cubed potato hash browns, eggs how you like them, sausage, bacon, the works! The pancakes one pancake takes the whole plate! The cinnamon roll pancake is a must! (Plenty to share with the rest of your table but have to try!) and chocolate chip pancakes are delicious as well. The coffee would be my only complaint. It's super weak! Tastes more like coffee flavored water (it's consistently weak). Service is great! read more

Very delicious and abundant breakfast options. The omelette and potatoes were very delicious as well as the pancakes. Note that employees do not seem to be required to wear masks. For a tourist place this was of concern to us. We did our best to remain socially distant and to keep our masks on when not eating. read more

We passed by this restaurant several times before stopping by. We wanted a home cooked country breakfast and they did not disappoint. The cinnamon roll pancake was bigger than our head. It was sweet, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just the way we liked it. We didn't even need to use syrup. I had an omelette which was yummy. The biscuits were soft and the gravy was tasty. I normally prefer sausage gravy, but this was good too. The restaurant was clean but small. Not many tables and when we left, there was a wait. Staff were friendly and responsive. We will be back! read more

This js a small diner and very reasonably priced. when you come, expect a small staff buzzing around in true diner fashion. The service is busy but they are super nice. The woman waiting tables was cool as a cucumber managing the whole room like it was nothing. Food was awesome. Get the cinnamon roll pancake. read more

Hubby & I took a short 4 day vacay. Our supper was delicious. We had their appetizer, fried mushrooms. Very nice sized serving. He had fish, fries, hush puppies, beans & ham, buttercream pie. This was the special. I had hamburger steak, loaded baked potato, coleslaw, toast & brown gravy. I do not like brown gravy, but let me tell ya, this was DELICIOUS!! I had a lot left over. We came in with a party of six. Great company, poor restaurant experience. The diner atmosphere was promising at first, but after 30-minutes of waiting on our food, it lost charm. All burgers were way over cooked, (well done +) chewy, thin...fried chicken was over fried and dry. Majority of the plates were cold. Our server was sweet, but there was an apathetic feel to the overall service. Maybe because we weren't from the area? Not much hospitality. Although this is our first time to Broken Bow, I have a feeling there are places that care more about their food and their people. We'll try one of those next time. read more

This is our go to stop for burgers when we come to Brokenbow. Their breakfast biscuit with sausage, egg and cheese is also delicious. Since Stupid COVID we have only been doing carry out. But we have been going to this local restaurant for years. Highly recommend. read more

I stopped in for breakfast before heading back to Fort Worth after spending a week at Beavers Bend Resort Park. I had passed the restaurant several times on my way to the park. After my breakfast visit, next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely be stopping in. This morning I had one of the best cheese omelets I've every had, it was light and fluffy and full of creamy American cheese. It was totally awesome. I can't wait for my next rip to Beavers Bend so I can try the dinner menu. read more

So RUDE! Four of us walked in yesterday and though it was busy, the two serving staff literally ignored us for fifteen minutes as we just stood there. No welcome, no hello, just walked around us the whole time. The couple who came in behind us finally left. I can understand if a restaurant is busy, but to act like we were not even there was unbelievable. After finally being given a table, we waited another 20 minutes to get a menu. When she finally came round to get our order, the server made us rush so that we could get our orders in before 11:00 before they closed breakfast. We walked in at 10:25 am!! Thirty minutes later we finally got served breakfast! What a crock- there are better places to go and the worst customer service that I have ever experienced! read more

The good: They cooked my over medium eggs properly and a lot of places struggle with that. These eggs were very good! There aren't more stars because: We asked for the cobbler of the day, they told us it was blackberry. We ordered it and it came out peach. We ate it anyway. See next point. The wait staff never came to check on us after they gave us our food, so there was no opportunity to advise anyone about the cobbler mishap. The table we sat at was uneven, so our coffee kept sloshing out of the top of the mug and onto the table. As I write this I am still marinating in the stuff. We needed mare napkins, so eventually we took some old dead ones off a nearby table that hadn't been bussed. We shoved the nasty napkins under our table. Voila! Problem solved. The food was respectable, but nothing I'd crave. We got biscuits and gravy/ eggs with bacon, toast, and hash browns/ scrambled eggs and a biscuit with gravy. It got the job done. This place was very busy, so maybe they were just overwhelmed. I would be willing to give it another try, but I live out of town and don't know that I'll have the chance. read more

The food here was VERY tasty. My husband ordered the fish dinner and I ordered the fish and shrimp combo dinner. It wasn't the best fish I've ever had, but it was high on the list. We absolutely love fried catfish. The tea was good and sides were great, yummy pinto beans.I like the hush puppies and sometimes it's hard to find good hush puppies. The service was decent. We stopped in a little before normal lunchtime so there were only two other small tables and the wait time was a little longer than I would have liked, but not terrible. The reason I'm not giving a five star is because they were out of sides that we ordered. After we placed our order my husband was told they didn't have coleslaw and I was told they didn't have hot rolls so we had to pick a different side. That was a little disappointing. Also it was cold inside, even my husband thought so, so bring a sweater. read more

Super, super friendly staff. I really wanted to like the restaurant, since I've usually had great experiences with homey small spots like Shady Oaks. However, the cheese burger I got was very soggy. About half of the bottom of the burger was soggy, and was probably the soggiest burgers I've had. Although the flavor was okay, this aspect made it an unpleasant experience to eat the burger. After our dinner, my friends and I ended up having upset stomachs. Would probably not come back. read more

Good place to stop by and grab breakfast for a fair price. My husband and I tried the omelets, biscuits & gravy, and hash-browns. The food came out pretty quick, and was still warm. The omelets were decent, and the biscuits were pretty good. The gravy could have used a little more flavor, it was pretty plain and needed some seasoning. The hash-browns left a lot to be desired, they weren't as crispy as I would've liked, they were more on the mushy side. The restaurant appeared to be clean, and the people were friendly, so that's a plus. read more

My husband and I came down to fly fish and we stayed in the tiny town cabins which are right down the road from here. We ate breakfast twice here at the shady oaks and it was great. They've done a nice job updating the restaurant. Just a nice local diner. Everything was quick and hot. Great prices and the girls in there were sweet. Wouldn't hesitate in eating breakfast there again when in the area. Only reason not giving it a 5 star is we didn't try any other meals there. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but on the inside, magic awaits!!! My family had taken a short weekend trip to Broken Bow to hike around Beavers Bend and right outside the entrance of the park, Shady Oaks humbly stood. It's a small little restaurant but it's clean and well decorated. Don't let the size fool you...the portion sizes are HUGE and DELISHUS! My dad got a burger (which was huge), my sister got a chicken fried steak (which was huge), and my mom and I got a taco salad (which was huge and beautiful). Everything tasted so so so good. We also got a basket of fried mushrooms. I personally have never liked mushrooms but the mushrooms at Shady Oaks were like nothing I've ever had. YUM! I really really recommend this place. The people are nice and attentive, the food is SCRUMPTIOUS, and the atmosphere is cozy. My family had a really good time here :) read more

Horrible service, we walked in for breakfast at 10:15 on a Saturday morning, restaurant was about 3/4 full, we stood at the entrance for a good 10 minutes, the waitress/ hostess wouldn't make eye contact to seat us, I finally spoke up to ask if we could seat ourselves, the waitress / hostess looked like I had three eyeballs and snapped back to wait I will get back to you, we did not feel welcomed at all, we are spending our hard earned $$ where we are welcomed , down the road at Stevens Gap, you FAILED SHAD Well, I tried this place a second time, after my earlier post, please listen owners, get these waitresses some help or at least enroll them in a customer service class, the one waitress needs to be NOT working around people, she is not friendly or welcoming at all, again about a 10 minute wait for breakfast and not one eye contact from the waitress staff to seat us and there were open tables available, I cannot comment about their food because I haven't been able to eat there yet, I am moving on read more

Terrible experience. Seated after about 20 minutes (several tables open the entire time) and then waited for about 45 minutes after we ordered and the food still never showed up. When we asked how much longer, we were told that there was still several tickets ahead of us and they hadn't even started making it yet. We left immediately and took our businesses elsewhere.
