    Seared ahi tuna appetizer
    Justin L.

This place is awesome! The bar and grill was nice. Came here with a coworker after work. I got seared ahi tuna for an appetizer. I also got fish and chips for dinner. The tuna was money! Served with wasabi, soy sauce, and seaweed. It was very nice. The fish and chips were plentiful. The tartar sauce was the boss of sauce! So good. We are coming tomorrow!

The food was average (which I expected) but I am staying at the hotel so it is convenient. However, there was a startling realization when they brought the bill. I ordered a "basil Hayden" on the rocks. Apparently "on the rocks" means $2. I asked what the heck this was about and they said "on the rocks" is a larger pour. I asked for further clarification. "Neat" is $15 and is 1.5 oz. "On the rocks" is another $2 and is one more ounce. I suppose that $2 is a bargain if considered that way. But the whole way they do it left a sour taste in my mouth. No pun intended.

We had an incredible dining experience here! We were the only ones there so we were able to have the whole dining room to ourselves. Our server, Matt, was very attentive (and understanding when we told him he didn't have to check on us anymore to avoid mask-on-mask-off maneuvers.) Finally, I HAVE to suggest the Black and Blue Scallops; the sauce is Gorgonzola Cheese based and comes with a slice of lemon, which is obviously heaven on a plate! We will be coming back soon!

All I can say about the bad reviews on here is : I am a regular here. I come here after work often. I have seen people and heard people treat these bartenders like absolute shit, sexually harass, and even assault- yes assault (smack a bartenders behind) and then become angry and offended when told not to touch her. Complain to management about the bartender being "rude " for demanding him to keep his hands to himself, just for management to comp his meal. I heard a man tell one of the bartender he'd "let one blow on her face if he had the chance." See the thing with these bad reviews, is they're all majority from entitled people. People who think they can do whatever they want with no payback. Let me just tell you. I was cold and I am currently wearing the bartenders jacket because that's how kind they are here. Does my steak look horrible to you? Please trust me when I tel you people complain more than they compliment.

I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Suzy who was working the bar, where I sat, was very friendly and on top of things. The food is good, the sandwich I got was very big & delicious with a side of sweet potato fries- also good. The only thing I'd say is that I believe the chili said it came with tortilla strips, which it didn't, rather the oyster crackers. No big deal. I had no problems with the food, drink, or service.

So what do you look for in a hotel bar and restaurant? It should be good sized, so you don't feel cramped. Well you won't feel cramped at all here, Shades is huge with a big bar, big dining rooms, and a few sweet upholstered seating nooks. They should have a Happy Hour right? Well Shades does -with lots of bar appetizers from $5 - $8 and $4 beers. They even have free food in the person of a nacho bar so you can load up on chips, salsa, sour cream, cheese, jalapenos, and taco meat if that's your thing. The service should be friendly, courteous, efficient and friendly, right? It sure was -very nice folks everywhere (especially the young lady bartender in the Victor Cruz jersey!). About 20 of us were here after work yesterday and we had a very good time at Shades, the house restaurant at the Doubletree hotel near the airport. I enjoyed the nacho bar, and sampled a variety of appetizers- bacon wrapped scallops, some GREAT Ahi tuna bites, some tender calamari with a great tomato sauce. Someone at the table ordered a bruschetta that looked like a dessert that was actually an optical illusion! What looked like vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce turned out to be mozzarella slices with balsamic; a pretty cool and creative presentation. Bottom line is this- we had a terrific time and I was very impressed with Shades.

One of the better rib steaks that I've had in my travels. Good work, friends!

Attached to the Doubletree Hotel, this is a nice little place to enjoy some refreshments or have a bite to eat. Came here at night with my crew for some food and beverages, and had a great experience. They have a decent beer list- nothing exceptional, but definitely something for everyone. Bud/Miller/Coors Lite kinda night? They've got you covered. Want something with a bit of personality, like a Dogfish Head 60 IPA? Done and DONE. They have a nice long martini list as well if you feel like raising a pinkie and getting fancy. Their food is good. It's damned good, actually. I ordered the scallops appetizer and the seared tuna appetizer. Both were damned fine. Not amazing, but damned fine. The scallops were a little small and overcooked, and the sauce was too heavy for scallops, but I wasn't really *disappointed*, I just would have done things differently. The tuna was really nice, with a great crust of goma. The next morning (while recovering from the beers I'd slaughtered the night before) I ordered myself a Ribeye in order to celebrate the Easter holiday. Now, this meal gets the restaurant an extra star by itself. It was FANTASTIC. I asked for medium rare, they gave me EXACTLY medium rare. Perfectly marbled and still on the bone, with flavor for days. The mashed potatoes were excellent- still just a LITTLE bit of skin on 'em, the way that I like it. And the vegetable medley was exactly that- it was a jubilee celebration of vitamins and minerals consisting of squash, carrots, onion, and several other veggies. Definitely NOT one of those limpid little affairs that you see at most places. This was a GREAT hangover meal, and honestly it just knocked me back on track to tackle the rest of my day. When I'm in the area, I definitely look forward to eating here again!

I feel very medium about this place. I mean...I don't actively to the area with the intention on eating here. I don't sit down in my house and think, I should really go to Shade for dinner tonight. But, when I do end up here...its never bad. It is never off the charts either...always medium. Unfortunately there isn't much to choose from in the immediate area, which is something that needs to be worked on because the airport is pretty much two feet away and when people are here for the night and need a quick bite...there are only a handful of places they can end up without venturing too far. If there was something unique about this place - they had a brewery, they had 8,000 TVs, you wear funny hats when you eat...any of that would make it stand out a little more. But, good value, decent beer selection, and medium food. Not really a place you go to, more of a place you just end up at.

DO NOT waste your money here; especially if you're a hotel guest. Food was way overpriced while being a disgusting unbalanced mix of overcooked and undercooked. It's like your dish was prepared at a gas station. Service is extremely slow, the staff working here have a really nasty attitude for no explainable reason. They're constantly bickering among themselves too. I highly recommend you try the surrounding restaurants in the area if you're a hotel guest, Shade Bar & Grille is not worth the headache to brave through for food. Skooters diner has really good foods for ridiculously cheap prices for 6am breakfast and there's also a solid steakhouse up the road from the double tree.

    Clam Chowder
    Bobby M.

Clean, quiet, comfortable bar area with friendly staff. I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Mozzarella wedges with Marinara sauce. Both were very tasty and satisfying. The soup was a little "thin" but had a lot if flavor and a good amount of clams; not just a bunch of potatoes. The Marinara Sauce for the mozzarella wedges was very good. A little on the sweet side, but well prepared and fresh. The order came with 6 triangle wedges which is enough to share. I'd order either, or both dishes again.

Only had wings, a Cesar salad and tap beer. But it was good for a quick snack on a weeknight. Wings were good you have three choices of sauce and I got the buffalo. It was spicy, maybe franks mixed but it was good...Salad was fresh, crisp lettuce fresh cheese and Crunchy croutons. I had a taste of the local beer and the Sam Seasonal, both were good, but decided on a Stella. Beer was cold and remained cold for the walk to my room so nice tap system. The waitress staff/ bartenders were nice (let me sample some of the brews) and very attentive but not annoying. Didn't get their names but thanks for the great service. I'll try something more dinner like next visit.

The brewers were brewing, and the space inside was nice. They also had an expansive outdoor area and plenty of parking. The drinks were well done, lots of flavors and varieties on tap. No one complained about the beers though the drinks were small for the price. The food venue towards the back was pumping out pizzas from a giant pizza oven with a blazing fire. I ordered some appetizers from the menu for my team to share. Meatballs, elote, and waffle fries. The apps were not easily shareable but we made it work. Waffle fries were generic and not crispy enough. The elote was corn pancakes rather than corn on the cob. My mistake for not fully reading the menu. Flavor was good but messy. Meatballs were good in terms of flavor and consistency, got a decent amount for the price too. The meatballs were the best bite. The pizza is trying to be New Haven style but is missing the structure. Way too floppy and heavy for the style of crust. Needs to be lighter on the sauce and cooked just a couple minutes more to really solidify that bottom and get rid of the tip droop. Cheese had a good elasticity to it though, good cheese pulls. As an informal event venue, it's pretty good but pricy for what you get. As a local brewery, if it can keep its events constant then it will do well. As a food venue, it's high for where it is but the quality is reasonable. A few more shareable apps beyond pizza and just a few small tweaks to the pies and they will be great.

Definitely needs a renovation and some much needed tlc inside and out though. The Saturday early afternoon crowd was aged. Place was quiet for a sports bar which I'll take after working a twelve hour shift. The main speaker was just loud enough where it was just background noise. Place feels like a casino to some degree without all the pizzazz. While I waiting for everyone to show up I ordered a coffee which tasted like it was brewed and sitting for some time. Once my group showed up we ordered appetizers and our meal. I had a clam chowder, mozzarella sticks and pork bellies were also ordered. I tried a pork belly and it was ok. Same with my chowder, put more pepper in it than normal and clams were chewy. As for our meals, I had fish and chips which I enjoyed. Steak & cheese looked like a mouthful and the patty melt looked as is. Big turn off was the cigarette smokers 5' from the doorway as we were leaving. I know this place gets a lot of promotion via radio but I do not see all the hype.

It was founded by business partners Chip Glanovsky and head brewer Jim Wilfinger. Friends since high school, the two partners began brewing their own beer using fresh fruit and natural ingredients. Eventually, they had a dream of opening their own brewery. In 2018, they registered their brand as "Blind Faith Brewing Company, LLC". On paper, they are still known under that name. However, sometime before their brick and mortar brewery opened in 2022, they discovered that Vermont-based Magic Hat Brewing Company had already copyrighted the name "Blind Faith" for an English IPA of theirs. Needing a new name quick, Chip and Jim settled on "Almost Famous" in reference to the 2000 film directed by Cameron Crowe. The name is also meant to honor all people who almost got famous but didn't in the end. I recently visited Almost Famous for the first time. I immediately loved the space. It's very spacious with a large taproom, plenty of seating, a private event room, a billiards room, and a classic arcade room. I also loved the Rock 'n' Roll theme that was going on. The bar was built to resemble Marshall amplifiers, truss towers, and the tap handles were all different guitars. I started off with a sampler flight that featured "Anything's Impossible" (American Pilsner), "Tangent" (Tangerine Fruited Sour), "Stranger Than Fiction" (Cream Stout), "Everybody Wants Some!" (Pineapple Vanilla Bean Milkshake IPA) and "Bitch 'B' trippin" (Double New England IPA). The latter two were my favorites. Afterwards, I enjoyed a full pour of "Bubblegumption" (Bubblegum Milkshake IPA). Overall, I had a great experience at Almost Famous. I would love to return with my family in the future; my sons will love the arcade!
