I came into Shabuya around 6:29 PM and overall had a really good experience, definitely leaning toward 4 stars. When we first got there, there were quite a few people waiting, but the process was smooth. We checked in with the hostess, joined the waitlist through our phone, and got a text when our table was ready. The wait honestly wasn't bad at all. I did ask if the bar was open seating since there were only two people sitting there, but they let me know it wasn't because they had been slammed all day and the bartender had just come back from break. I get it, it just would've been nice as an option. Let me tell you... I got their "adult Capri Sun" (a strawberry lychee slushy) and it was SO good. Like dangerously good lol. Food-wise, I actually loved the curry rice and karaage more than the hot pot itself, didn't expect that! The salad bar had plenty of options, and there were a lot of seafood choices too if you're into that. The only thing that felt a little limited was the thin meats since you can only choose up to eight at a time and it was a controlled item to order as the server stopped by. Nevertheless, they looked like premium ribbons of meat. Service was great. Our server was attentive, and once we placed orders, the food came out really fast. The vibe of the restaurant is super nice too, very sleek, clean, and modern. I love an all-black aesthetic, it just looks put together. My only real issue was the bathroom, two stalls had toilet paper placed in the corner by the toilet, which just didn't feel hygienic. Also, the hostess/manager (she was wearing a white blouse) ran after us to let us know we couldn't take our Capri Suns to go lol. I mean... I get it, rules are rules, but it did catch me off guard. Overall, I really did enjoy my experience and would come back! Just a few small things that could be improved.

Lunch time! My first time lunching at this location was last summer, and sadly I neglected to post a review. Thankfully, I visited for lunch today and decided to defy procrastination by posting a review at the earliest convenience. 1. Yes, there's parking! The restaurant has their own lot, which is more spacious than I expected (I believe this was formerly Outback Steakhouse). 2. Yes, per posted signage above the entrance, they do serve lunch everyday. Per the menu, lunch hours are Monday thru Friday, Open (11am per Yelp) to 3:00pm; excludes Holidays, Sat, and Sun (as per the menu). Lunch pricing is $22.99/person. 3. Yes, there is time limit. Lunching time = 90 minutes. Our server informed us that he would provide notification when the time limit was near. 4. Yes, diners will choose their broth first (we chose original), and are allowed 8 meats and 3 appetizers at a time. Aside from these choices, diners can help themselves to the many offerings/choices at the salad bar. These include banchan, vegetables, fish options, and sauces. There is a drink menu (a bar is located just off of the entrance) available which includes soda and alcohol. 5. Yes, we ordered mostly chicken for our meats, but also chose to try the pork belly and beef toro. As the meats are thinly sliced, they cooked quickly and easily in the hot broth. The vegetable choices at the salad bar included cabbage, broccoli, and mushrooms. We tried the gyoza and chicken karaage from the appetizer menu.....decent but small portions. 6. Yes, we felt 90 minutes was sufficient for us; we started to get full as the 1 hour mark approached. 7. Yes, service was very satisfactory. Our server explained the process of ordering and self-service clearly, and checked on us periodically throughout the meal. I appreciated that he came over with broth and water refills readily. Very good service. BOTTOM LINE A decent hot pot AYCE in Kapolei. I thought the lunch pricing was very reasonable for what's included. Recommended. Lastly, I'm glad I had the opportunity to post this review today.

OMG I LOVE Shabuya. I've been several times and it truly never misses. Our most recent visit was for my husband's birthday lunch and the team made him feel genuinely special from start to finish. Weekday lunch pricing is incredible. For under $25 I left completely full and so happy. It's such a good value for the quality and level of service you get. Service is always on point. Tables are cleared quickly, water is constantly refilled, and the meat comes out fast. I especially love that they never make you feel like a burden for ordering more. Instead they proactively ask what other meats you'd like to try, which really sets this place apart. The vibes are great and the whole experience feels smooth and well run. We leave happy every single time. My only small wish is that they had enoki mushrooms, but they do have wood ear mushrooms which I love, so it's an easy trade off. Consistently excellent and one of my go to spots.

There are plenty of parking for this location and definitely less crowded than the one at Ala Moana Center. The selections and menu seemed to be the same. We got the tonkotsu and sukiyaki soup base. Both were great although I preferred the sukiyaki with a raw egg as dipping sauce. Their meat was nice and fresh and they refilled the veggies and seafood stations often. Staff worked fast and worked well together. Orders came out quickly and precisely, and the restaurant was kept clean.

First off...I would like to say the overall experience was very good. Clean, fast, efficient, & a delicious variety of food. Smoothies were on point too. We were thoroughly enjoying ourselves until our server, Benji, came and closed the window shade at OUR table without even asking. I stared at him wondering why, when he stated that the table in back of me wanted it closed. No sorry. No nothing. We were actually enjoying the rainy day while sippin on some hot soup until that point. TBH, if he just asked me, I would've said "Yes, no problem". So, without sounding dramatic, I immediately lost my appetite after that.

Going to Shabyu during a work lunch is a no-no as I suffered a kanak attack quickly after! Their lunch special is such a deal which will leave you super full. Make sure you wear a dress or your stretch pants because it's all you can eat! My colleagues and I went during lunch (during the week) for a celebration and it wasn't too busy. We did make reservations so we were quickly seated. I like that you can get pupus and aren't stuck only with the hot pot items. The meat is small kine thin, but it's good since the meat won't get chewy. They have a larger variety of veggies, some seafood and a lot of sauces. Service was great and also really fast! Parking wise, there's a lot and perhaps you could park in the Home Depot area or by Starbucks if you really had to.

My family and I went there on a Sunday and it's $32.99 per adult. Drinks not included. All you can eat buffet. You have to make sure you don't eat anything before going here. We left feeling beyond stuffed. Service was fast and friendly. The place was clean, organized and definitely lots of people.

Never been to a 'hotpot' restaurant before... ever... had preconceived notions that there was one large bowl of soup that may have at the most, split into two, so there would be two broths simmering...Wrong! Anyway, as one person in our party of 3 requires a walker due to a recent medical condition, we parked in 1 of the two handicapped parking stalls fronting this place (the former Outback Steakhouse). Check in first upon coming in... will be asked your name and cell phone number (perhaps for future promotions texts?) ... Waited less than one minute (we were there about 11:18am today, Thursday before being seated. We were seated past the salad bar and just there in the partial booth and two seats table facing the kitchen. Our server was Ms. Kaliena, who asked if we were here before, i told her no, my brother said he had one time before... This location opened just a few months back in May, she said. I was so ignorant in my thoughts of what a hotpot place was - specifically this, as my brother said this is more like an updated version of the traditional hotpot places... Each seat has their own cooking burner for their own soups... brother chose sukiyaki, his wife chose traditional miso, and i chose spicy miso broth... there were two more other broths available. She was nice and pleasant to tell us how to do things, what to choose, etc... so we can choose up to 8 trays at a time of meats and 4 appetizers at a time. We chose the pork belly, beef toro, beef blade and natural chicken. We chose chicken karaage, volcano chicken karaage (sauce yes makes it spicy... maybe a 3 out of 5 on heat/spiciness) and some chop chae. Throughout we chose more chicken, including the soy glazed karaage, and I fell in love with ordering more of the volcano chicken karaage. Now before you think we ate so much, please note these came in 'small' bowls that they put in 2 or 3 at the most morsels of karaage. I was so ignorant again of a hot pot place, they saying it was a salad bar.. so i chose things to put for a regular toss salad, but could not find any 'dressings' like French, Thousand Island, etc.. ha ha.! Brother had to tell me no, those were to put inside your simmering pot of soup. Ahh, the lightbulb turned on all of a sudden! Ohhhh... For $22.99, this place was worth its price for all you can eat until 3pm! Now i tasted brother's sukiyaki broth... good but then the 'sweetness; came at the end... to me, too sweet. didn't try my sister in law's regular miso... but should be like all others... but mine... mine being the 'spicy miso' was very tasty until about later as you sit and it still simmers... having the water escape through being boiled and now the saltiness became SO OBVIOUS... Yes, even with our server, Kaliena giving me more broth... so just be careful and warned... the spicy miso broth will become saltiER and more noticeable as time goes by... it was very obvious... But to be honest, the meats are sliced almost paper thin---no joke... to me, i could NOT differentiate what part of beef or if i was eating the chicken slices... Plus, do not overdo on dunking the meats into the different sauces at the salad bar... they taste GOOD ON ITS OWN... Yes, i would come again... even the other two in my party was thinking of coming here once per month for the $22.99 special! I still would rate it 5 stars, even though two 'cons' if i would call it that... 1) the spicy miso broth would become quite salty as it continues to cook on the burner and the water evaporates, 2) the meats are really sliced thin... and i do mean T-H-I-N. My brother told me there was a 90 minute seating limit... but we took 63 minutes from start to finish and never felt rushed at sitting there... Highly recommended!

Big fan of this chain as we have one in Northern California. Sadly the one back home doesn't take reservations so we stopped going there. This one here in Oahu is very new, clean, has great staff and down Yelp waitlists! We went for a late lunch/early dinner to avoid crowds and it was the right call. Walked right in. This new location is very clean, spacious and has a great, attentive staff: We'll definitely go back when back in town.

Lots of free parking on the West Side! Great service from Michael! Thank you so much! Our party was stuffed from the plethora of AYCE vegetables, meats, seafood, noodles, sauces and appetizers! Great atmosphere! Make sure you have your whole party to be seated. I'm so happy there's a Shabuya on this side of the island!

Soy Glazed Chicken Karaage - hella crispy

The very first thing that hit me at Shabuya Kapolei wasn't the food - it was the dishes. Stinky, dirty dishes. BIG TURN OFF at the start. The veggie bar plates are stored under the buffet counter, right where dusty fans blow directly onto them. Some of those plates were actually DISGUSTING: dusty, wet, stuck together with food debris from the night before, so stink!! I've worked in restaurants, so I can only imagine what the dish pit looked like at the end of the night. Please - change out the soaking water more often or give plates a final rinse and dry before stacking. It's basic, but it matters. The food itself was decent, but honestly the variety and quality don't compare to our go-to spot, Rokaru. The pupu selection was super minimal, and we didn't like being charged dinner prices at lunchtime without getting the full dinner pupu menu. Checking in was another headache. We were second in line before opening, but the iPad system bumped us down to fourth. When staff finally came out after opening, they tried checking in people from the opposite side of where the line had formed - total confusion. Guests literally had to correct the hosts and organize ourselves. If they want a certain check-in order, put up signs and arrows. Don't leave paying customers to figure it out cuz no one appreciates being seated after people who came after you. Overall, the food was okay, but the cleanliness, variety, and organization really dragged the whole experience down. Our server was good tho! Probably won't be back, but I can see how this would be loved by the westside.

Service was great, food quality was what you expect from Shabuya, and the location is clean and well kept. Overall I liked the location better than the Ala Moana one. Service was quick and the waitress was very attentive. Food was traditional hot pot, the meat was sliced well and the seafood seed fresh. Will definitely be back!

    Ask the Community - Shabuya

    Is it vegan friendly?

There are a lot of vegetable choices. Different noodle choices including Spinach noodles. Not to sure if the broths are vegan.

Are the wait times as long as the Ala Moana location?

No, not at all! If you are within 5 miles you are able to put yourself on the waitlist. Don't forget to check-in when you get there! Waited less than 10 mins to be seated. 😊

Is it purely AYCE? If I just wanted to eat nothing but a teriyaki chicken and rice bowl, is that possible? My family can do AYCE but I can't eat too much.

    Yes, it is only AYCE.

    Do they take reservations?

No they do not. Seating is based on FCFS. Through yelp you are able to put your name on the waitlist.

    When will the opening be?

    It's today, May 15 @ 3pm

We've been twice now, and it's officially a must-visit every time we're on the island. It's a true hole-in-the-wall spot! nothing flashy, but don't let that fool you. The sushi is phenomenal. Every roll we've tried has been consistently amazing, and the rice is perfect (which honestly makes all the difference). You can immediately tell how fresh the fish is! everything tastes clean, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared. I've even ordered rolls to go, and they hold up so well. The staff is another highlight, so kind, welcoming, and genuinely sweet. It adds to that feeling like you stumbled onto a local favorite rather than a tourist stop. Seating is a little limited, so just be prepared. There are a few small booths, but most of the seating is along the sushi bar. Totally worth it though. This is hands down a place I think about long after leaving, and one I'll keep coming back to every time I'm in Oʻahu.

Service was a bit off. We arrived around 8pm and there were only a few tables seated, but the host seemed confused and it took a while to get us seated. Our server also wasn't the friendliest, just not the most welcoming or confident vibe. When we asked what fish was included in the course, she said she didn't know and just reassured us it was "good quality," which didn't feel very reassuring. We ordered the Sushi & Hand Roll Course (about $50 per person), which is actually a pretty good deal for the amount of food and slightly upscale feel. It included seasonal fish crudo, 9 pieces of chef's choice premium sushi, and a choice of two hand rolls: we picked shrimp tempura and spicy crab. One downside was the spicy crab hand roll used imitation crab, which was disappointing since that wasn't disclosed and we assumed it would be real crab based on the options given. Also, before we ordered dessert, our server told us the kitchen was already closed. Totally understandable, but there was no heads-up or last call, which would've been helpful. We still ended up getting the black sesame panna cotta, which was actually really good. Overall, the food was decent and the vibe is nice for a date night, but the service could definitely be improved.

The egg was nicely cooked and added richness, but the overall flavor leaned a little on the mild side. Served over warm rice, it was comforting and filling, just not especially memorable. Portion size was solid, and it satisfied the craving, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Decent option if you're in the mood for katsudon.

Mid food court quality food. With exception to the pork tenderloin used in the "traditional" katsudon (fried katsu is added directly to a soup base with onions and eggs), the regular cuts of pork, seem to be pork shoulder with fat and connective tissue. Additionally, while the pork is still moist, it is not pre-cooked like before. Cooking the thick pieces from raw results in an oily, very dark coating. Finally, the frying oil is breaking down. It imparts a bitter, oxidized flavor to the katsu. Portions remain large and reasonable for the price but like all the other offerings from Don Quijote and Times, what started off strong is now just caloric sustenance.

They took our party of 5 (gratuity included with 5 or more) and we had the long table in the front. I'm glad to see that there are some chairs with backrests so that our kapuna can relax a bit more because most are wooden stools without backs. Food - everyone had the Tonaka Classic while I went with the heavy garlic ramen. All ramens came with an egg cooked perfectly for the ramen. I had my ramen topped with Parmesan cheese and it really brings it together. Service was great with checkbacks to see if we had everything. It's not my first time here but it will not be my last. Not too far from the resort that we were staying at. This was located in a mini shopping mall. We were the only ones dining in there at the time. Service was okay, we did take some time to decide. Our waitress kept coming at us; like are you ready yet?! As if we had been there before. But again, this was our first time. Anyhow, I didn't see the lunch combo on the menu. It was something that was taped to the wall at our table. It included an appetizer with the ramen for a reasonable price. We opted for that choice instead. We both had the Tanaka Rich Garlic Ramen (which was very flavorful), one of the appetizers we had was Karaage Chicken (crispy and delicious with the dipping sauce) and the other was Pork Gyoza. Everything was good and filled us up quickly. We will have to try it again another day when we are back on the island.

Service was on point and the food absolutely delivered -- honestly, what more could you ask for?…read more We dined in around 5:30 pm and it was pretty quiet at first, which made for a relaxed start to dinner. Within about 30 minutes, the place started filling up quickly -- always a good sign. Ordering was smooth and efficient, and our food came out shortly after without feeling rushed. My boyfriend ordered the spicy beef shabu shabu with spinach, mushrooms, and udon. The broth had a really nice kick -- flavorful, warming, and not overwhelmingly spicy. The beef was tender and paired perfectly with the fresh vegetables and chewy udon noodles. I went with the shrimp tempura udon, and it hit the spot. The curry was light yet savory, and the tempura shrimp were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside -- no soggy batter here. The portion sizes were just right: satisfying and comforting without leaving us overly stuffed. Great service, delicious food, efficient timing -- this is definitely a spot we'll be coming back to.

But this place also has make your own recipe donburi. The interior is small and not fancy, but definitely has a Japanese flair, with lots of wood and banners. There are wooden booths and some tables. You can see into the kitchen from the counter, and it looks like it's a very bustling kitchen, as they are preparing orders and grab & go food. You order at one of the counter, then add you go down the line, you can grab any of the sides from the heated case--takoyaki, shrimp tempura, gyoza, musubi, and a whole lot more. It looks like they are constantly refilling so it's fresh. Then you pass the grab & go section, which has sushi rolls already packaged. Finally you get to the register, where you will pay and wait for t you're number. There are no fountain drinks, so if you want a coke, if will be in the bottle. We both had the donburi with multigrain rice and misoyaki butterfish, but there are a lot of choices, like furikake, kalbi, or tonkatsu. Our food was soooo good--where has butterfish been all my life??? If you are in the Kopolei and need a good place to eat, here you go! So good!
