Worst experience ever Did takeout.. Couldnt do it online because it wouldnt let me select 4 of the same meats so had to do it in person. Manager (im assuming based on attire) was super helpful. Was told 20-25 min. 40 min later 2 servers finally hand carry my takeout containers from the kitchen up to the host stand. The haole girl proceeds to drop a container on the ground, right in front of me, and pick it back up like nothing and place it on the counter. Thankfully it didnt open or idk what she wouldve done then.... On top of all that she had the meanest RBF. def not someone who should be working anything related to hospitality. Fast forward Get home. Carrying the bag to my house, whole thing rips open from the bottom. Because why? The container she dropped is completely cracked so all the vinegar and water from the radish wraps is all over everything including the bottom of the paper bag. Luckily all containers survived and i didnt lose any food. Salad also had no dressing. And we got no sauces for our meat. Its cheaper to dine in than pay $80 for a terrible experience. All things you get for free during dine in, you have to pay ala carte for. Salad. Radish wraps. Rice paper. All the banchan. Tried calling them to talk to someone to get my tip back, because that def did not deserve any tip since it was def not prompt nor was there any service or hospitality from anyone other than the manager. But they never answer their phones. Will never be doing takeout again

I've been to this location before and usually have a great experience, but this visit was honestly disappointing. When we arrived, about half of the restaurant was closed off, and one server, Janelle, was handling the entire open section. She seated us and took our initial order, which included meats, krazy sauce, and calamari rings. The calamari took around 20 minutes to come out, and when it finally did, it was cold. It was obvious it had been sitting out for a while instead of being served fresh. From there, the service only got worse. It was extremely difficult to get Janelle's attention because she consistently prioritized larger parties and would walk past our table quickly without checking on us. Not once did she come by to ask if we needed anything or wanted to order more. We had to call her over every time. I ordered the krazy sauce twice, and both times she forgot it. There were also no grill changes at all, even though we saw her changing grills for other tables. Meanwhile, our grill was burning, and we couldn't get her attention to fix it. When we placed our second round of orders (2 premium steaks and 2 honey soy beef belly), the steaks came out quickly, but the beef belly took about 15 minutes. During that time, our grill was burning and we were already getting annoyed that our server didn't come to check on us. Because of that, we turned off the grill and decided we were done eating. Of course, the honey soy beef belly arrived right after that. At that point, I asked to speak to a manager. A food runner named Kyle helped us. He was very kind, apologetic, and professional, even though the situation wasn't his fault. He brought out the manager, Hoku, and this is where the experience became even more frustrating. Hoku did not come across as helpful or apologetic in any way. She didn't greet us properly, didn't ask what the issue was, and showed no urgency or concern. Instead of trying to understand or resolve the situation, she seemed dismissive and uninterested from the start. Her body language and facial expression made it feel like she had already judged the situation before even hearing us out. I had to explain everything without any meaningful response from her. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the poor service, and no effort to make things right. To make matters worse, she didn't even communicate basic information like our total. I had to ask for it myself. For someone in a management position, the lack of professionalism, accountability, and customer care was very disappointing. They initially tried to charge us for the honey soy beef belly we didn't even get to cook, but eventually removed it. However, considering the overall poor service and lack of management support, I would have expected some kind of additional accommodation. Overall, the service was slow, inattentive, and frustrating. Janelle seemed overwhelmed and unable to manage her section, and the manager handled the situation very poorly. The only positive part of this experience was Kyle, who genuinely tried to help. It's disappointing because I've had great experiences here before, but this visit definitely lowered my impression of this location. If this is how service is when it's not even busy, I can only imagine how it is during peak hours. If a server can't handle all the tables in their section, let alone properly take care of a party of two, they should not be responsible for that many tables at once. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving both service and customer care.

Saturday February 7, 2026. After working out at the new Planet Fitness in the mall. We decided to go the food court upstairs. Looked around kind of expensive. Pay that much might as well spend a little more and eat good at Gen's!! Service is friendly and fast. Food came out right away. Let's start and get to cooking our lunch. Food is good!! Ambiance is casual and comfortable. The only bad part is that you smell like smoke after. Lol. The smoke smell cologne covers up the sweet sweat smell. Lol. We will definitely be back again.

My sister and her family love this restaurant. There was a newer location that opened near them but they still prefer to drive further to this location. This time, we had a party of seven (4 adults + 2 kids + 1 baby). We got there at around 5 on a Saturday and waited maybe about 10 minutes. Our waitress seemed nice but she must have been new because she was kind of terrible. She didn't even know how to start our grill (turns out you need to add water first so that you don't start a grease fire, which she wasn't aware of. Kind of concerning). She would forget a lot of items, we'd have to ask for items multiple times (including basics like water or utensils), and she would constantly bring out incorrect items). Our grate was also never changed (again, probably due to lack of training) until we asked, since some of our meats were starting to taste burnt. Avoid the cooked menu items. The kimchi fried rice and japchae were terrible. Stick to the meats. My top three dishes were still the Hawaiian steak, honey soy beef belly, and pork cheek. So it's nice to see that at least the quality of the meats have remained the same. It just seems like they might have a really high turnover rate and waiters don't receive adequate training, probably due to that fact. Although I enjoyed most of the food, I think this second experience of bad service is enough to not make me want to come back a third time.

Food was good, the only thing I felt was a little off was the beef brisket was tough. I think they sliced it the wrong way. Everything else we ordered was really good. Especially the honey soy beef belly. Think we got 8 orders of that. Our sever was friendly and on top of it.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Found out Fri/Sat/Sun is dinner menu/prices all day... we didn't know. Server number 1 was a bit slow but nice and courteous. She explained the process well. It took a while for our dishes. Took a while for our grill to be replaced, it was charring and smoking and not pleasant. They simply grab it with tongs and walk is with it. Hmmm. Not good if it drips on the floor... Server number 2 made up for it with awesome service and our dishes came out quickly. Food was good to excellent. Bulgogi had some chewy sinewy sections but was tasty. Pork belly was great. Thick bacon was great. Calamari steak amazing. Steak was good. Spicy pork yummy. Popcorn chicken yummy. Honey chicken was good. Asst veggies were ok. First platter didn't have mushrooms and zucchini was way too thin. Second player had mushrooms and zucchini was sliced a little thicker. Bell peppers should have been sliced better. Korean mochi with sweet paste inside was awesome. Our booth had a drippy AC above my seat. When we were seated, I thought it was damp because they had wiped down the seat. Wrong. Drip, drip every so often through the meal. May be why the second server asked is we wanted to move but by then we were settled and had started eating. Drinks are refillable. Would have been 4 stars if our first server had done better and the AC wasn't dropping on me. Tips: Don't dress up. You will leave smelling like smoke and bbq. Ask for daikon wrappers. Pickled, very thinly sliced, and you put your cooked food in it taco style. Awesome! Overall a great experience but go on a weekday for lunch for lunch prices if you can. Would go back but hope they have beef tongue on the menu one day.

Veggies and sauces out at numerous tables with no customers seated.

Been to alamoana location a couple times and today was my second time at this aiea location! First off I'd like to say I don't like doing negative reviews but this one as a little bit of it....The girl that sat us put us in a booth and I'm a big guy it was uncomfortable but not unbearable, and I know I could of ask to be moved but I channeled me inner skinny guy and didn't mention it. Our server was great and the food is always good. But couldn't help but notice all the chips in the dishes the serve food on, one was pretty bad and I'll post the picture! Anyway another thing I noticed is veggies and sauces our out on a lot of tables even tho no guest are seated at those tables. We asked about the potato salad they use to give server bring out the food said they don't have, we also ordered the cheese corn and never have that either! I also order a Coke Zero and my wife took a sip and said why does it taste like cherry coke??? That was beyond me... Oh and the bathroom smells good but didn't look it, aim good my guys! ‍‍‍ anyway probably won't come back to this location and we really only came because we was in the area and had a gift card from Christmas!

I've done here a few times and my last experience was the best one yet. The server that helped us was the great. Very helpful and concerned. He felt like he wasn't helping us enough so he literally cut up my bone in steak before I even started cooking it. He was a very cheerful and great communication. As for the food and drinks it's always great. We decided to go with the most expensive premium menu. It seems pricey but it is worth it if you are super hungry and a mission to eat everything you can till you can't no more. This place is a bitt cold for kids without any jackets on. I'm guessing it a lot more colder because of the grills that's always running. Better cold then hot and sweaty when you trying to eat as much as you can. lol.

    Raw Pork Tonkatsu
    Brianna D.

We're used to the slow service here at Gens but this time we received slow service and raw pork tonkatsu. The manager did nothing to remedy the situation. Then they charge my son as an adult, so I tell him that he's 9. The waiter said ok and walked away and then I'm pretty sure the manager told the waiter to ask my son. So the waiter came back and asked my son if he's sure that he's 9?! Like wtf. I pulled out my son's birth certificate real quick to prove it. My husband took a bite of this raw pork that was supposed to be cooked. They should have honored the half price for my son regardless. Ridiculous.

This spots great if you go at a non-busy timeframe. Which means avoid any Friday/ Saturday nights. When we went during that time, we rarely had our server to come and take our order for meats. It was a terrible experience when you have a hard time getting a hold of your server. We won't ever come during those times. We went on a weeknight and service was wonderful. We didn't realize they have carne Asada tacos and adobada here where they bring you small tortillas to make tacos! It was a surprising flair to the Korean flavors. We also had the cheesy Katsu which I thought was a great appetizer. Don't get the kimchi fried rice- very mushy and super sweet. We love the sauces and matcha salt that they offer and the Banchans have great flavor. Best time to come is during lunch when you pay less than dinner prices! Plus get your gift cards at a discounted rate at Costco to enjoy more savings. I would've given this more stars but I feel like the service is below standard here. It takes forever for a host to greet you when you're at the door. Plus the workers just walk by or the bartenders just look at you without even acknowledging or offering help. Dishes here are always cracked or chipped, too, so it looks run down.

Whenever I'm looking for parking at Pearlridge, I always see a lot of people outside of Gen waiting to be seated in the restaurant. When I found their gift cards sold at Costco for 20% off ($79.99 for $100), I immediately bought it to treat my family. Informed them that we'll have an early dinner around 5pm so we won't have to fight the crowd...it worked! We were lucky to find good parking, no line outside and got seated right away...awesome! Our waiter gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. After giving him our order, the food came out pretty fast. When the restaurant got busier, the service was slower as expected but they made sure our grill was changed when it started getting black. I'm not sure what meats were ordered because my kids did all the ordering. All I know is my husband and I enjoyed it. It was tasty AND the kids did all the cooking...yay! As for the appetizers, we tried the Calamari Rings, Cheese Tonkatsu, Deep Fried Mandu, Jap Chae, Rice Sticks & Kim Chee Fried Rice. I enjoyed all of them but the fried rice was a little too spicy for me. FYI: Hours of operation: - Monday to Thursday is 10am to 10pm - Friday to Sunday is 10am to 11pm Prices are: - Lunch is $20.95 from 10am to 3pm on Monday to Thursday (Note: "Dinner" price of $33.95 is all day for Friday to Sunday & Holidays) - Dinner is $33.95 from 3pm to 10pm on Monday to Thursday & 10am to 11pm on Friday to Sunday Number of items available to choose from: - Lunch: 32 items - Dinner: 45 items There's a 2-hour limit at this All You Can Eat restaurant where leftovers can't be taken home. Don't order more than you can eat because they may charge you for unfinished food. You can ask for a maximum of 2 split checks per table/party. They open every day including holidays. You can only make reservations if you have 10 or more people. There's lots of free parking right outside of the restaurant but good luck finding one because it's always crowded. Overall, thumbs up for the food and service! We'll be back for an early dinner again or maybe lunch if it's not crowded!

It took almost an hour for our party of 5 to be seated at lunchtime. The online waitlist system is weird (it told us there were zero parties ahead of us, and the server clarified that it meant there were zero parties of a similar size ahead of us. There were still several smaller parties before us). It did seem like they were a little short staffed when we went. Our server was attentive, given how many people she had to tend to. We tasted most of the appetizers, and got a good share of meat. It did get quite smoky inside, and i'm not sure the vent above our table was fully working. Besides the wait time, it was a pleasant experience overall.

How much is it for dinner?

I never had to pay so I wouldn't know. There are no prices on the menu.

Is there a gen restaurant in kamakana?

Yes there is! It's on the right side of Kamaz, where the big "Ka Makana Ali'i" sign is.

    Do they take Reservations?

Only if you have a party more than 10 & you can also put in your first set of orders so when you get to your table your orders are there.

How much is it person I'm trying to surprise my Htg for Valentine's but can't find any prices?

If you go for lunch Monday-Thursday it's 19.95 per person and dinner is 29.95 per person. Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the dinner price, 29.95 per person, all day. I… Read more

What's the difference between lunch and dinner dishes? Would have to compare side by side both menus and my eyes are not as good as before :-)

https://m.zmenu.com/gen-korean-bbq-house-aiea-online-menu has the lunch and dinner menu!😊

Does anybody ever answer their phones? I've been trying to book a large party all week and no answers? I've been on call for 35 minutes.

If all week they haven’t answered, I would just go in and make the reservation in person..

Does anyone know what the usual wait time is for walk in party of 5?

    10-15 minutes

What are your prices? Web site says to call but nobody answering.

$16.99 lunch/ $24.99 dinner. It's on the menu, but it's the price of each item instead of saying per person.

Do you guys offer military discount?ty

It's actually $19.95 for lunch and $28.95 for dinner. Of course that isn't including the tax yet! 😊

I'm trying to call to make a reservation for 10 people. Is it just me or do they not answer their phone?

It's not you. It's extremely hard to have someone pick up the phone. We ended up personally going down to make the reservation and deposit.

For large parties of 12 or more do you need to place a reservation ahead of time?

Need? No, but I highly recommend placing a reservation. However, in my experience and regardless of reservation, they tend to break up the large parties into two tables.

Are we able to make reservations?

Yes for party of 10 or more

What's the dinner price? & do we need to make a reservation for 6 people? last answer I found was from 9 months ago.

    About $30 per person

Does the Pearlridge location still have BYOB (bring your own beer)?

No, they have a liquor license so it's not BYOB

Do you guys still require vaccine card??? Please let us know here too thank you!

I believe today 3/6/22 is the end of the safe access program. So proof of vaccination or negative test result will no longer be required at eateries, bars, gyms and other establishments.

No one is picking up the phone. Are parties under 10 still walk in only?

    yes

Is there a time limit on eating and is there any extra charge for leftover food not eaten at the end of our meal?

Once you get in you have a 2 hour limit and if there is extra left there is a fee , $5 if i remember correctly

Do they allow single diners? I mean one person, not not married! 😄

I'm sure they do like any restaurant will provide seating and service for one. A small table with the grill and you order from the vast menu. Since it's all you can eat you might start off with one tray of meat. Assorted vegetables. Lettuce to… Read more

Ordered by phone the day prior, and just gave them my phone number as usual (it's how they identify you when you pick up, with no worries about duplicate or misspelled names.). Every time I've ordered in advance, our order has always been packed neatly and ready in a box for takeout. (My brother had brought a box just in case, and smoothly offered it to their staff for someone else's future order.) The restaurant has several tables for dining in, and markings on the floor for those waiting in line. It's brightly lit and clean as well. I appreciate their staff, food, service, and generous servings. They make us look so good with our potluck contributions! So what did we order? Half chicken katsu, half chicken wings, a small platter ($45 for the small pan, but picture a much loaded tray) - it's a great value deal! It was the same order our cousins loved when we brought it on Christmas Day (they especially love the wings, but we love the katsu-so this year we asked for half-half instead of all katsu, and they were so happy, ha ha!) Oh, and they give you a nice big container of yummy katsu sauce;)! I like their panko and cooking method, as whatever they do, the chicken is nice and crisp, and tasty - with, or without the sauce, actually. First time that I actually tried the wings, as I'm not a wing person. (I didn't even try it at Christmas, lol.). But, it was nice and crisp, lightly seasoned, and the wings had lots of meat on them. Easy finger food, and they were not dripping in oil, either, which I appreciated! Also ordered (for the first time) a small platter of chicken chow mein (a little over $30?). It was based on a good recommendation by an admittedly biased family member of the owners, and we were pleasantly surprised! The small pan was covered in wrap and then foil, because the mound of noodles was seriously kinda big! My brother was like, quick, go tell mom to come look before we open it (as she's picky, so it's hard to impress her). It was filled with lots of veggies (sliced carrots, cabbage, onions, etc) and bbq chicken pieces, tossed with great flavor (I want to say it was a nice sauce, but this wasn't a wet noodle dish.). My dad added Chinese mustard soy sauce, but my mom and I thought it was perfect the way it was. Oh, don't laugh, we're only a family of four, so yes, we ate two meals - lunch and dinner - and still packed a ton of leftovers! As we watched the game, we commented to each other what great choices we had made. (We also had sushi trays and other treats, and of course, chips, and my brother's dip. My brother said we may not have had a favorite team to cheer on today, but it was a great excuse for a party, ha ha!) I know we're doing a repeat for our next occasion, for sure! We'll gradually try some of their other foods, and it's farther away than we'd like to drive (I know, it's not that far, but we live on the other side, ok?). My brother agrees it's worth the drive - it's across Aloha Stadium and literally in the same spot as Ice Palace; and we saw quite the line at the Taco Bell drive through when we were looking for parking;). He also compared it to the cost and serving size of what we ordered on New Year's, from a restaurant much closer to where we live. Hands down, it was not even a close comparison, his emphasis added. So go here, it's perfect for family dinners and potlucks and I hope you agree with my assessment;)! Oops, I didn't take any pictures, aiya!!!

We were right there, so I ordered a Smoked BBQ Rib plate. It came with 2 sides. We chose Baked beans and Green beans with smoked turkey. Service was very friendly and efficient! I believe that they worker said, "I appreciate you!" Wow! That's very nice of him! We took the plate home (it was too windy to sit alongside the busy sidewalk) and discussed the tasty ribs, sweet (molasses?) Baked beans and yummy green beans with smoked turkey. Mmm! I would return and get the catfish plate, Po Boy sandwich, and walking tacos!

Unfortunately, they were out of collard greens, so ended up ordering a fried catfish plate with Mac & cheese and green beans. Man, I don't know if it was because I was hungry, but this was one of the best classic Mac and cheeses I had in a long time, and by far the best green beans I had. The catfish was freshly fried after ordering and was perfectly cooked and seasoned. At $26 per plate it is a little pricey, but it was about a meal and a half and the taste was excellent. I would suggest calling ahead to see what they're out of and to ensure you don't have to wait.

Food was also soft/juicy. Tried everything from the 3 Meat Plate (brisket, sausage [weekends only], pulled pork, with mac & cheese/rice), loaded tots with pulled pork, the brisket chili, pulled pork sliders, shave ice. If there is anything you should try, I really liked the BRISKET, SAUSAGE (weekends only), the BRISKET CHILI, SHAVE ICE. Its worth mentioning the loaded tots were all crispy and delicious down to the last bite. The meat/food taste was just right with the amount of flavoring, spice, and texture. To level/change up the taste, you can also use the delicious sauces and if you had to pick any, pick the Honey Mustard one & Spicy (which was barely spicy). The shave ice is really good too because the ice is soft like biting into a cold cloud. The flavors are limited but you still find at least 2 good flavors (all you really need). Cashier was very nice with typical take our service. I tried other highly rated BBQ places in town which I found food to be over seasoned/salty or too spicy. This place is just right for everything. Food area is in tropics mini golf and you can get food without playing any golf. If you on the sidewalk passing it, you can smell the cooking. A hidden gem in Aiea for food and/or dessert. If I am craving BBQ or dessert and nearby I will definitely be stopping by again.

Very relaxed & casual atmosphere! We had Pigs Tail Mac & cheese and 3-meat bbq with green beans, mashed potatoes, & okra. The food was all very tasty! My husband loved the meatloaf with cheese-smoky flavor and a nice seared edge. The sausage was yummy, too The pork on top of the Mac & Cleese had a great flavor, too. We shared fried okra. It was crispy and came with a great sauce. We enjoyed our lunch & think you will, too. There's inside seating and outside seating, too. Give it a try!

It's the Southern atmosphere that makes the place unique on Oahu, there's no other place similar. A big part of that atmosphere is the music selection. In the past they've usually played Southern Rock and Country, or at least had it in the mix. The past year or so though, every time I go in, it's hip hop or pop on the sound system. I can go to dozens of other establishments on Oahu and hear that plus get decent food. A big part of why I go to DG, is not to hear that! Bartenders join is fine if there's nobody in the place, please bring back the Country music when there's customers, or at least get an electric juke box, so we can mix it up a little.

Looked over the menu and found a handwritten "Bento" sign located below the counter. Bento price is $7.50 except for the Meat Jun for $8.50. It comes with the main entree, 2 mandoo, 1 veggie and a scoop of rice...wow, good deal! Main entree choices are: Mochiko Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish, Shrimp Tempura, Meat Jun or Musubi Combo. The veggie choices are: Choy Sum, Corn, Kim Chee, Shoyu Potato, Bean Sprouts or Japchae. You can substitute the rice for an extra veggie. I ordered the Meat Jun with Choy Sum. For $8.50, they gave a good amount of food which I enjoyed and had leftovers for another meal. The guy behind the counter was nice and service was fast. I would definitely return to try something different. This place is in Palama Supermarket that's located at Waimalu Shopping Center. Lots of free parking but this complex is always busy. Sometimes it's hard to find so park at the first stall that's empty. There are 2 entrances/exits that circles around so if you can't find parking, you have to circle around again because the isle is only one-way.
