An awesome place to go eat some nice all you can eat hot pot! I was surprised how bright, open and clean the place was initially walking in. It was a Saturday night so it was quite busy but the wait was not long. There are tables that are family style and there are tables for solo people. Everyone has their own individual hot pot and there are multiple soup broths to choose from. I chose the spicy broth that they offered. You can order what types of meats you want from the menu and the rest of the side dishes are self served. The buffet style of vegetables, fishcakes, seafood, and noodles to put in your hot pot were so delightful. There are a side of spices and sauces to put in your broth too. I was pleasantly surprised on how fresh and how often they refilled the sides that were running low. It took awhile for me to flavor my broth because I wasn't too sure what I wanted my broth to taste like but it ended tasting so good with minced garlic, fish sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. I enjoyed the unlimited vegetables and seafood that I got to eat and if you're into more bang for your buck then this is the place. For dessert there is an ice cream area where you can scoop your own ice cream. I didn't get a chance to get some since I was so full but they had a bunch of flavors to choose from! I first heard about this new Shabu Shabu restaurant a couple of weeks ago in the paper. It is Japanese style cooking owned by a Korean couple supposedly. My original intention was to come here for the first time during lunch, and I did, but it was on a weekend which still carries the dinner pricing. The good thing is that I was able to try all the meats. The bad part is that I think the lunch would have been a better deal. Three (3) types of the beef come from the Heartland Brand, which is pretty good quality Akaushi beef, a cross-breed between Texas cattle and Japanese cattle. My overall meat favorites were the ribeye, chuck-eye, and the chuck tender (#1). The prime rib was a dissapointment since it wasn't fatty at all. The lamb was gamey as to be expected. All meat slices are very thin, typical of shabu shabu style eating. They limit you to 3 meats at a time per table, but they're not super strict on that policy from what I saw. The center of the restaurant is where you will find the buffet line consisting of veggies on the left side and seafood on the right. All of the seafood for your hot pot is previously frozen. The veggie selection is pretty decent. I do like the ends of the buffet line where you can create your own dipping sauces. They have a good selection of base sauces, spices and seasonings for this. Adjacent to the buffet line is the fruit bar and ice cream bar. I saw most customers grabbing ice cream as opposed to the fruits. The ice cream is not bad, my favorite flavors were coffee and chocolate, but this is no haggen dasz of course. Hot pot is my absolute FAVE and the fact that this place is AYCE is the icing on the cake. We arrived here about 10 minutes after opening and there were already other guests in there. While eating we also noticed steady flow is customers so they were pretty busy for lunch. We were sat at our booth and chose our broths (2 house spicy, 1 tonkatsu, and number 1 which I forgot the name of) we then made our way to the bar to check out what they had. For meats, you order from 5-10 for lunch options. We ordered 5,6, and a special they had which was 11. All cuts were good, nice and fresh but I wish they'd give you more slices of beef on a plate because we kept having to order more with our server. The bar had tons of options of veggies, noodles and other proteins. We tried different types of mushrooms, Napa cabbage, kimchi, bok choy, watercress. Also shrimp ball and another one I believe to be fish? Fish tofu, fish cakes, crab stick, squid rings, mussels. Noodles we had were udon and ramen. There's so many options to add to your pot! You can also use sauces to change the taste of your broth which I recommend because although it says spicy, I didn't taste spice at all. Added a few sauces and it was much better. They'll refill your broth when you ask so slurp as much as your heart desires! Service was outstanding! Our server was attentive and quick and another server was helping him and they not only cleared empty plates quickly, they also refilled our cuts of meat quickly as well. Lunch price is very reasonable at $17 and dinner I believe is $26 but you get more meat options. Everything was fresh and the place was clean. Um. This place. My friends. Do yourself a favor and make your reservations and go. I highly recommend you aim for earlier than later. Let's start with covid19 precautions. You need a reservation (or at least that's what we were strongly encouraged to do). This place is hot so make plans accordingly. They take your temperature upon entering and hand you hand sanitizer. You also get a set of gloves for handling the tongs at the buffet bar. All the employees are wearing masks at all time and the food is constantly getting switched out and replaced. They also space you out with at least one table between you and the next couple. And the best part about this hot pot joint: you get your own hot pot. So you don't need to share and you can get the broth you really like. And the place is clean - staff is constantly going around cleaning the buffet line and tables. Now about the food. Delicious. Everything is fresh, clean, and tasty. They even have little posters showing you the order you should probably be cooking your food in. All the seafood offerings are absolutely wonderful. Now about the meat. You need to get that wagyu beef (#11 on the menu I think). Hm uhm chef's kiss. The pork belly is also really great. You can get other meat but you NEED TO DO the wagyu beef and pork belly. You can also see the staff thinly slicing the meat at all times there in the restaurant. The staff is also great. They constantly will replace your soup and ask if you want more meat (from a safe distance). They also constantly ensure your table is cleaned. Excellent service. Please make sure to tip well because these folks are on top of their game. Overall, this is a great place for dinner. And if you're just visiting Houston, I highly recommend you put this on your must-do list. I'm not sure if it's a great first date option (unless you don't mind pigging out with a first date which is totally fine), but it's definitely a phenomenal option for any post first-dates, bestie dates, and family dinners. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try Shabu Zone since the day they opened. So when Houston finally got cold, we decided to stop by on a Sunday afternoon. It's $27 a person on the weekends. Its concept is pretty self-explanatory. Everyone gets their own personal hot pot, you choose a broth and beef of your choice, and all the other items are in the buffet area. There are pros and cons to this concept. The pros being that everyone can customize their own pot and they don't have to share with a lot of people. The con is that since the pot is so small, the broth runs out fast and there is nonexistent customer service so you have to flag waiters down to get it refilled. And for your water. And for more beef. And for more napkins. And for the check. And to get your card back. Basically their customer service sucks and you don't get an assigned waiter. We flagged down like 5 different ones. Also I'd like to point out that there was really inappropriate music blasting in the background. I'm sure families with little children won't appreciate Kanye West saying "I'm a sick fuck I like to quick fuck" over and over on the speakers. The broth was okay and there were a lot of different options to choose from. My boyfriend and I tried a lot of the meat options and all were good. They only bring out 5 little, thin slices of meat per plate. But that's only because they don't want anyone to waste. The seafood area includes clams, mussles, shrimp, scallops, blue crabs, squid, octopus, fish, imitation crab, and frozen oysters. There are also noodles,kimchi, and dumplings next to it. The other side has a TON of different type of fish cakes to choose from, veggies, and tofu as well. My boyfriend and I really loved the lamb meat, dumplings, fish balls, and the fish tofu (a type of fish cake). And just for reference, the spicy broth is not spicy. Get that over the basic because it's more flavorful! Overall, I like that they have a lot of options to choose from and I love that I can eat from my own pot instead of fishing out my items from a shared one. I didn't enjoy looking around the whole entire meal because no waiter helped us. In fact, since we sat in the back, we saw that they were busy cleaning and wiping down bowls and cups instead. Easily hands down me and my husband favorite shabu restaurant. So many tables and they aren't on top of each other which is a plus. I have a 6 month old and she always sits next to me in the booth in her car seat since it's portable or her stroller. So many options for meats, seafood, veggies etc. I never feel rushed when I am here either which is a huge plus. We have been to a ton of restaurants that make you feel like they want you out so they can accommodate the next guest (even tho we're never that long anyway). All the staff is super nice and friendly. Food is served fresh and is delish! We have been here so many times and will continue to come because it is worth the drive :) read more

Imagine getting all the seafood you've ever wanted for $17! (or $25)! Truly a steal. There's also an incredible selection at the buffet - anything you've ever wanted to add into a hot pot is there. Make them go with their parents?) many options were missing. Nothing looked that fresh. Scallops never got refilled (or maybe they weren't even on the menu at all?). Buuuut all that crap aside, the wagyu beef totally makes up for it. Prices: If I recall correctly, lunch is around: $16.99 for the meat option. And dinner is around: $25.99 for the meat option. How it Runs: When we step in, we were greeted by the front staff and they quickly seated us if a table is available. What's unique about this place is that each person is seated in front of their own hot plate that cooks their own individual hot pot. So if you have a specific broth you want, it won't conflict with everyone else. Once we were seated, they took drink orders and broth orders from each individual person. If you opt in for the meat option, they'll take those orders at this time as well. A table of 2 can usually order around 3-4 selections at a time. A table of 3 can usually order 4-5 selections at a time. While they grab your broth and meat, you are welcomed to go grab stuff from their bar area. Service: A couple of times we went, they were a bit busy so it took a while for them to stop by and take more meat orders. However, they haven't ever completely forgotten about us. Food: Everything has been great here. They offer a lot of noodles, seafood, vegetables, spices and sauce options at their bar area. My boyfriend especially loves going for their variety of fish balls/cakes. Both taste really flavorful and good. All the veggies, meat, and sea food seem fresh! I was surprised also that the employees are super nice and energetic, very different from a lot of places nowadays. So that would be definitely a plus for me. We came around 2pm on a Wednesday but it was pretty crowded; however, no wait at the door, we were greeted and took to our table right away. Any time we asked for anything, it was served all at once. We did pay a little bit more because the day that I went was a weekend and they had blue crabs at the buffet. It has the perfect amount of sweetness. The only downside about Shabu Zone is the small pot size, which prevents you from putting too many ingredients in the dish at one time. AYCE Hot Pot! Per person price is $16.99 for lunch & $25.99 for dinner. Each person will have their own single-size hot pot to dip & customize the way how they want it. Interior - New, bright, contemporary, spacious, clean & good separation between each party. Food - You pick the soup base which you like. People say the soup bases are kinda bland, so I usually go with their original house soup base & then add the seasonings (available at the bar) to "customize" my soup so it suits better with my taste. They have good number of options for their hot pot toppings from veggies to seafood. For the meats, you will have to order directly with your server & each party is limited to order only 3 meats at a time - so I found it kinda disappointing if you go in a group then everyone will have to wait for their "turn" to order the meats they like. Service - Okay. But be prepared for a LOOOONG wait. Smaller parties usually will have shorter wait & yet our party of 2 still had to wait more than an hour to be seated during dinner time. Overall, I like the food experience but still honestly find the price a little bit high & very reluctant to come back again for that long wait. Parking situation is good, plenty of spots for a cold Wednesday night. I'm impressed with the meat here but I will say it's all you can eat for about $27 so it's on the pricier end. I ate too much food for my own good and was so bloated the next day. Meat recommendations: Number 11 all the way they also have lamb too but I like the wagyu belly...its a lot of fat which is why I probably have been bloated for the past two days but omgoshhhhhh so good! Dessert: Rambutan and ice cream are available but the group decided to get Bambu...word of advice: don't eat hot and cold together that causes stomach pain. First time here and I LOVE that each person gets their own hot pot and can choose between 7 soups! Basic Dashi Stock A, Spicy Original House Soup, Miso Soup, Tonkotsu Soup (which is what I got ... YUM!), Shoyu Soup, Sukiyaki Soup and Vegetable Soup. Then all the meats are ordered to the wait staff but everything else such as noodles, eggs, vegetables, sea food, etc is all buffet style. No wasted foods or sides you don't eat. We tried ALL the meats: Certified Akaushi Wagyu Chuck Tender, Angus Top Blade, Shabu Zone Rib Eye, Akaushi Wagyu Beef Round, Akaushi Wagyu Prime Chuck Eye, Shabu Zone Special Prime Rib, Tender Center Cut Pork Loin, Natural Pork Belly, Lamb Leg and Akaushi Wagyu Beef Belly. When you arrive, you get to select your broth, they have a whopping 7 flavors. We decided to go with the basic dashi stock A, which I thought was a great base, especially if you want to add in your own sauces- which they have a make your own sauce bar for. You then have a selection of meats like beef, ranging from rib eye to prime rib, pork, chicken, and lamb. The meat is then delivered to you and you are free to select your seafood and veggies! For seafood we chose squid, imitation crab, shrimp, as well as a few seafood meatballs and tofu. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. quality- The quality of the beef was excellent. It was beautifully marbled and the cut was perfect for hotpot, not too thin or thick. The vegetables were crisp and delicious. My personal favorite was the enoki mushrooms, so cute and delicious! Came here tonight to celebrate my anniversary with my boo, and it was perfect. A huge line out the door, so we knew it was going to be good. Luckily since it was only two of us, we got seated right away. We're both vegan, and they have a ton of fresh veggies, noodles, rice cakes with the vegetarian broth we were able to eat. Plus a variety fruit at the dessert bar. I can't wait to bring other people here, the vibe was awesome and it was a reasonable price for the experience and all you can eat. They have sauces and condiments for you to kick your broth up a notch and great beer to choose from. The Kyoto ale was bomb. The only thing I think they could improve on is having maybe having another type of tofu like baked or fried and also shiitake mushroom would have been good to deepen the flavor of the broth. If you're debating between two soup, you can mix them for an additional $1. Then you choose from a vast selection of veggies, seafood, and noodles at the center of the restaurant. For seafood, there's crab, scallops, mussels, shrimp, and octopus! Sauces are aplenty and a little overwhelming. Just don't go for the white garlic one. For those that like a lot of flavor in their broth, there are so many different condiments and seasoning to add to your broth or even use as dip. Meat selection is done through the waiter and there is a 5 plate max per table. The pork belly and lamb meats are a hard pass. Lunch menu has a limited meat selection but it's still worth the trip. I been to this place twice now. The first time was a very good experience and really warranted a 5 star review, but today's experience was a bit disappointing. The place is nicely decorated. It was very clean the first time I came, but today was a bit sloppy all around. The seafood and sauce station wasn't as stocked and had spillage in various places. The floor was a little sticky too. There were also flies flying around. The highlight of this place is the individual pot of broth. I thought the tonkatsu was tasty both times and would recommend it over the miso and vegetable broth that I have tasted. The meats are ordered one plate per person at a time. The cuts are kind of inconsistent. At times they gave us tiny slivers, while other times, it was twice as large. The meat didn't really interest me as much because they all kinda tasted the same and had no real flavor aside from the sauce. The fishballs side we're fairly generic types. I prefer the shrimp kind. Since the last time I came, they have changed the selection slightly so that it feels more limited and slightly lower quality, at least as far as the shrimp balls are concerned. I really liked the veggie selection, particularly the daikon and the pumpkin, but the separated the carrots and tomatoes to the other side. The dumplings are kinda generic, but pair well with sauces, so no problem. They also have a pretty decent selection of seafood like fish, shrimp, scallops, crab, imitation crab, oysters, clams, muscles, octopus, etc. They also have a range of noodles like ramen, udon, egg noodles, vermicelli. We noticed they took out the spinach noodles :(. The dessert bar has those big lychee looking rambutans? and a couple other fruits. I wish they were kept cooler though. The ice cream has been hard frozen and almost empty both times. My biggest complaint there is they just leave the scoopers in this murky water. The service is really polite, but I do notice that if you don't ask, they won't do. Even if your pot is out of soup and burning... Oh. And the sauces. I'm really picky, so I pretty much only cared about the sesame sauce and garlic, but they had a really good variety, including coconut wasabi, ponzu, sweet corn, etc. At least a dozen options if you include the garlic, soy sauce, and vinegar. Despite the complaints, I still think this place is pretty good deal. The individual pots are great for vegetarians or people like me that don't eat certain types of meat. The price is reasonable for the amount of seafood available. The wait staff could use a bit of service training, but are in no way rude or incompetent (and in all honesty...this is pretty commonly Chinatown service). Most importantly, the food was enjoyable when paired with personalized sauce mixes. I prefer this place to little sheep and shabu house. I took one star away for the flies and sticky floor. I know they can't exactly run around spraying raid or slapping them down with fly swatters, but it wasn't just one stray fly and it is kind of a mood killer to see them land near the food you just picked up. read more

This is a great place for AYCE shabu shabu! It is basically the taiwanese take on japanese shabu shabu. Do the basic dashi stock or the spicy original house soup! I have a soft spot for AYCE places, so I'll probably be coming back every now and then, but will be focusing on their better cuts of meat. Quality was great for AYCE! There is a lunch menu, which only lets you order from 6 meats, while the dinner menu allows you to order from 10 different meats. In addition, there is a sauce bar for you to make your sauce, and vegetables and seafoods for your hot pot! Most of the meats, aside from the pork belly and pork loin, were delicious! The pork belly and pork loins were difficult to chew, despite cooking for less/more in the stock. The seafoods were bland and had little to no flavor by themselves. The sauces and stock did not improve their flavor by much. A little history! Shabu Shabu means different things depending on which country you are in. Dinner was going well until I saw a bug in my broth. The whole table stopped eating because it was disgusting. After telling the manager, I was given a $3.20 discount. This is unacceptable. The meal is $30 and it was ruined because of a bug. A $3.20 discount is insulting. The manager said he was embarrassed because of the bug but a $3.20 discount just says "please stop complaining." After calling the manager again, I was given half off my meal. Not once did they offer to comp the meal. My friends and I were paying for an experience and enjoyable meal, and that was ruined by a bug and poor customer service. read more

I am SHABU OBSESSED! Being from Southern California, there are many shabu places in proximity, so when I moved to Houston, I HAD to find my "go to" shabu place, and Shabu Zone definitely measured up to it. Came on a Thursday night, and it definitely was not packed at all. Pretty clean space. What more can I say, you dip your meat and vegetables, dip into sauce and eat it. It's so good! Some downfalls: -should offer plain water and dry kelp broth which is the original shabu shabu soup base. - wish there were tongs and strainers available at the table - missing Goma!!! - smaller sized pots, but still love that it is individual I would definitely give it a try! read more

I love the place. Considering the price point, they have done a great job. However, they can do a better job to keep the social distancing and keep the Tong clean. As this is a buffet, it is important to keep it clean. They should provide the glove for all of the customers when they pick their food. They may be doing their best but I feel that there is a need for one more push for keeping everyone safe. read more

A healthier alternative to Little Sheep Hot Pot AYCE. Each person gets their own pot, so it's better for pickier eaters who still want to eat in a group. Less oil in the soup bases but to me this also means less flavor. Lots of super fresh selection in the buffet including a good variety of veggies (squash is my fave) and seafoods (liked the clam and white fish). The meat is by order, I liked the #11 the best (pork belly). Service was really good, esp for AYCE, and the restaurant was clean and new. The dessert and sauce selections left much to be desired. Overall I'd come for lunch ($17 pp) but dinner felt over priced ($28? pp. Don't remember exactly). read more

Korean Shabu Shabu spot. Tonkotsu broth was great. Fresh veggies and good broth. Meat was fresh with exception of Kalbi and Pork which did not do well Shabu style. #5 meat was my favorite. Their sauces were good but I am missing the Taiwanese bbq sauce which is obligatory for Shabu Shabu. Their sesame oil is stale and oxidized which is not good for your health, avoid if you can. Operated by Korean owner, this place brings an optimal combination of Korean and Chinese style hot pot. There are seven kinds of soup base you can choose from and different parts of beef that you can order. You can order meat as many times you would like and you can also change the soup with $1 extra cost. Overall, I was extremely satisfied and would like to visit very often.
