    Seafood bar

We had the AYCE for Saturday lunch and it was a very satisfying meal. The seafood, veggies and sauce bar was clean, fresh and neatly organized, and I like they have two types of house sauce ready, cause I often don't even know what I need to mix to make a good sauce. The meat was good quality and tender too, and I loved the house broth. The house porridge at the end was definitely a cherry on top. 10/10 highly recommend it!!

It pains me to write this as I was truly excited to check out this place. I was in Koreatown and was looking for places to eat and this one had great reviews. It should've been a red flag already coming in with no customers in the restaurant, but I gave it benefit of the doubt. No issues with customer service as everyone was incredibly nice. When I was sitting at the table; I noticed a cockroach on the wall. Not wanting to alarm my parents I decided to ignore it. Thinking back, I really should have told them and gotten up right away because it made me iffy and anxious the entire time. Surely enough, my intuition was correct. After we got our food, I noticed the cockroach (don't know if it was the same one on the wall earlier or not) casually walking on our table where all our food was. Now I can't ignore it anymore and told my dad there's a cockroach right next to your plate. We flagged down the owner and told her about it. She was very apologetic and moved us to a different table and offered a discount to our bill. But during the entire time I was hypersensitive and on high alert for the bugs. It really just ruined my appetite and I couldn't find myself enjoying my meal at all.

Went for their lunch on a rainy day and the price was super reasonable. It was around $21ish per person with 6 meat options to choose from (#6-12). The restaurant was pretty clean, and all the veggies were fresh. Honestly, it's one of the cleanest AYCE hot pot spots I've found so far. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.

Returned to visit the shabu AYCE experience and new concept. Everything was very good and they definitely got busy as the morning progressed. Good options from the buffet line. Very nice employees! I got the house broth and my favorite cut of meat from the lunch menu was #7. Clean restaurant and will def be back

Quick service, friendly staff, and $30 AYCE dinner. I do recommend the dinner menu for the additional meats. This place is good for the price although I wished there were more options at the bar such as more veggie options and seafood. Pro tip: at the end of the meal, get some handmade noodles to soak up all that flavor from the broth!!

Kim Shabu is my happiest find of 2024 in Houston. This used to be a soup noodle place and has since been completely remodeled. It now offers - dare I say - the best individual hotpots in Houston. That's a bold claim given we have so many hotpot spots. So what do I base that on? 1. The variety of items. The seafood and veggie+ bar is impressively varied, and with 12 cuts of meat offered for dinner, Kim Shabu gives you permutations and combinations of concoctions between veggies, meats, seafood, carbs, and sauces. Don't skip on the rice cakes and the hand-pulled noodles towards the end. 2. The freshness. This is unbeatable. I don't know how they offer so many items and yet keep them all so fresh. I probably ate a pound of mushrooms and crown daisy each, and don't get me started on the meat. So fresh and so good. Such good quality. 3. The flavors. Both the House and Beef broth are delicious. While my pot tasted like really thick mushroom soup by the end of the meal, the broth was good from the get go. The sauces were also spot on. The avocado sauce was so good and spicy, and I also enjoyed the soy-based House and Ponzu sauces as well as the black sesame sauce. And the peanut sauce. And the ssamjang. I ate a lot of sauces. Service was also prompt. I'm really happy with this find! Edit: Turns out that I really disliked my experience here prior to the remodeling, but definitely go and support this new hotpot gig. The Shabu is fantastic.

This place never fails. Went in January and very recently with family and friends. Our visit in January was with a large party with some being vegan and non vegan. It was a wonderful experience all around. They have plenty of vegan options here and highly recommend for anyone wanting those options. They have no problems answering any and all questions as to what is and isn't vegan. The meats are always fresh, as well as the buffet. Hands on my favorite place to go and always highly recommend. The service is always wonderful. If you are looking to go for lunch and not dinner there options are half of what is offered for dinner but they are still great options.

First time here and had a great experience! It's very clean and well laid out. The service was great and the owners are so sweet. So many options to choose from the food bar. The broth was a bit bland and I couldn't figure out how to spice it up just right but there are a lot of great sauce options. It really is a great price for the quantity and quality of the food. I will definitely be back.

Previously Korean Noodle House, Kim Shabu is a lovely family-owned hot pot joint out in Spring Branch. The clean, minimalist decor as well as the unassuming menus are endearing, but don't let that fool you - among shabu shabu restaurants, it holds its own against more bombastic peers in Chinatown and Katy. Here are my thoughts on our experience: Meats and soups: For dinner, choose from any of the 12 cuts on the list, of which 9 are beef, 2 are pork, and 1 is chicken. Everything we had was fresh and well-portioned; I loved seeing all the beautiful trays hit the table at once, then stacking them up high as we devoured slice after slice of meaty goodness. Most of us ordered either the deeply rich house broth or lightly savory dashi soup, which were also both excellent and complemented the shabu shabu options well. Buffet: You'll find your typical selection of Asian veggies, shellfish/seafood, tofu, mushrooms, and noodles out here. Reflecting the restaurant's Korean roots, you'll also see an extensive banchan station (I wish the kimchi had gotten refilled)! The sauce bar has both prepared mixes and basic essentials for you to create your perfect dip. The dessert and hot food sections were fairly limited, but you're not here to eat too much of that here, are you? Service: Our server was quick, efficient, responsive, and attentive - perhaps more so than at any other hot pot restaurant I've been to! I guess it did help that the place was pretty light when we went late on a Friday night. In short, while it may not have some of the more expansive options that other places do, Kim Shabu more than makes up for it with solid mainstays and excellent, personable service - I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I found myself in the area!

    À la carte menu

A good option for AYCE hotpot in the Memorial City-Bunker Hill-Little Seoul area with very reasonable prices, especially for lunch! It's a quiet and clean place, and the front still has the Noodle House. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and I believe the manager also routinely came out to check on us (she also seemed friendly). Compared to places in Bellaire/Chinatown, it has less options for sides, but I think the quality makes up for it. My ONE advice: DOUBLE UP ON YOUR MEATS! The portions of "single" meat plates are much smaller than other hotpot places. The pic I've included is when we doubled up on our meat orders.

    Andrew C.

On the corner of a strip mall, this hot pot place isn't huge but can seat parties of two to larger groups (there's a separate room with big tables). Each person gets their own pot and it's one price for AYCE - with discounts for senior citizens (10%) and kids under 4 eating free. Broths are House (chicken, beef, pork), dashi, beef, pork, chicken, miso or veggies. I went with the house but honestly - like with most hot pots the flavors at the end are all muddled. The have a buffet bar with the most neatly stacked and assorted vegetables and items for your hotpot - including kimchis etc. They also have a section for rice and some items that go well with rice . . . and a separate area with fruit and a whole ice cream section. Meats are very very thinly sliced - which means they cook in a matter of seconds. You can get two plates of meat per person (roughly 10 pieces), but you'll likely need to order some more as you go. Staff was so courteous and helpful and very kind. We even got some candy canes since Christmas was just around the corner. This place is definitely a bit of a neighborhood gem.

This restaurant has great flavor broth, and a good selection of meats. I wish there was more sides available.

I liked how everything at the veggies and seafood bar was chopped nicely, and the porridge at the end was great and for only $1! But the broths are not super flavorful (which is probably suitable to Korean people's tastes), and they don't have crab sticks!!! which is big for me. Also the meat is chopped a little too thinly so it falls apart really easily. The staff seemed nice though and everything was very clean.

Ask the Community - Kim Shabu

Is it only Shabu or can we still order the noodle soups?

Hi, thank you for your message! Yes, you can still order the noodle soups! But we are out of internet…

I used to love the kimchi from Korean Noodle House. Do they still sell kimchi to go, and is it the same?

Yes, we are the same owner and make the same kimchi every day!

Are you the same owners as Korean Noodle House?

Yes! My parents are still cooking in the kitchen!! We just changed our menu to All You Can Eat Shabu…

    Do they have ponzu sauce?

We do not have ponzu sauce yet, but we have other house-made sauces taste similar. We will actually add ponzu sauce soon, too!

Are there gluten free items on the menu?

Yes, they have some rice dishes which are gluten free.

I recently opted for the Diamond AYCE set, and it was hands-down one of the best dining experiences I've had.  The Diamond tier is worth every penny. It unlocks the entire menu, giving you access to the most premium cuts and decadent sides. Here is the breakdown of why this spot is a must-visit: The Meat & Seafood * Japanese A5 Wagyu: The star of the show. The marbling is incredible, and it literally melts the moment it hits your tongue.  * Australian & American Wagyu: Even the "lower" tier meats here are exceptional. The ribeye and brisket were fresh, tender, and flavorful.  * Premium Seafood: The Diamond set includes a fresh seafood platter featuring succulent lobster (Boston and Norway), sweet shrimp, and sashimi-grade salmon that was incredibly fresh.  Signature Sides & Appetizers The Diamond set isn't just about the pot; the appetizers are high-end restaurant quality: * Wagyu Bone Marrow: Rich, creamy, and decadent--a rare find for an AYCE spot.  * Foie Gras Toast & Wagyu Nigiri: These elevated starters set the tone for a luxury meal. * Truffle Wagyu Beef Don: If you have any room left, this bowl is packed with umami. The Atmosphere & Service The service is top-notch. The staff is attentive, constantly refilling broths (the Sukiyaki and Spicy Miso are personal favorites) and clearing empty plates without you ever having to flag them down. The 90-minute limit is more than enough time to get through several rounds of premium cuts.

They announce 'last call' -- when final orders are made for each table before the restaurant closes. I believe it's a good way for customers to pace themselves before leaving near closing. Downside: I don't know if it's been fixed, but the labels at the sauce/veggie (?) table aren't completely visible, so it's hard to identify what kind of sauce is displayed. Service is also a bit delayed/flawed during busy times, so I suggest looking at the traffic. It's not horrendous or frustratingly slow/flawed, just they are busy or deliever the wrong order because of the amount of people they have to serve and keep track of.

I specifically asked our server whether we had enough time for the all-you-can-eat meal because I didn't want to feel rushed. She assured us we would have an hour and a half to eat and recommended that option, so we ordered it at $39.99 per person. Shortly after we started eating, my son stopped because he said the broth tasted overwhelmingly like MSG and made him feel sick. I wasn't impressed with the food either, but since we had already paid nearly $40 per person, I continued eating. Around 8:40 p.m. I asked for a bowl of rice. About 10 minutes later, after it never arrived, I asked again. The server went to the kitchen and came back saying there was no more rice because the kitchen had already closed. At that point it was only about 8:50 p.m., even though the restaurant doesn't close until 9:00 p.m. She also mentioned they had already done "last call," but no one ever informed our table that last call was happening. To make matters worse, I explained that my son wasn't eating because he felt sick from the broth and that some of the vegetables didn't seem fresh. Instead of offering a solution, I was told I couldn't order anything else, had to eat what was already on the table, and could be charged if we didn't finish the food. At that point there was no reason to continue the all-you-can-eat experience because we were no longer allowed to order. I asked for the check around 8:50 p.m., but was told to finish the food first. We finally received our bill around 9:00 p.m. and left still hungry and extremely disappointed. The biggest issues weren't just the quality of the food--they were the misleading expectation that we'd have plenty of time for all-you-can-eat dining, the kitchen shutting down before the posted closing time without warning, and the lack of customer service when problems were brought to the staff's attention. We left feeling hungry, disappointed, and unwell. Even an hour after leaving, I had already finished three glasses of water because my mouth and tongue still felt irritated after the meal. For $40 per person, this experience fell far short of what was promised. There are far better Shabu shabu/hot pot restaurants in the area. We'll stick to Shabu Zone and Shabu En from now on.

The food at Shabu En is so good! The service is very thoughtful also and they're very attentive. The decorations in the restaurant is also very nice and it's very clean too. There's plenty of parking so no need to worry about driving around to get a spot unless you're trying to be closer. When you walk in, there is a waiting area where you can sit while waiting to be seated. They also provide some water and snacks in the front while waiting. It also has a photo spot near the front. For the food, there is a big selection. They have lots of soup bases, and it's possible to switch soup bases if you feel tired of the one you started with. I tried a few and they were all good. The flavors start to mix after you put in your hotpot ingredients, so I would suggest drinking some of the soup beforehand. My favorite broth I tried was the duck broth. You can really taste the duck and it's the most flavorful to me, and someone in the group said you can really taste the five spice powder (I couldn't but I liked it a lot). The tonkatsu is pretty decent and tastes like what you expect. I tried the Shabu En special broth, and it tastes like dashi soup. Very standard and pretty good broth. In my opinion, the sukiyaki broth is good for short term broth and just dipping your meat temporarily. To me the sweetness overpowered the soy sauce flavor, but it's still very good. You get your meat by ordering with the server, but they come by very often and it comes out very quickly that you don't really notice a long period without any meat. At the center where you grab veggies and the sauce bar, there are sections where you can get drinks, such as tea and Vietnamese coffee, which is in addition to the drinks you can order off the menu. There is also a small dessert station but it's a must try! It has a snow shaved ice, and it has a toppings bar next to it with toppings and different sauces you can put on it. Overall, it's a really good AYCE restaurant that's definitely worth trying out.

There are also extra side dishes, including crispy fried chicken, which is especially good. There are four soup bases to choose from, including original bone broth, spicy broth, sour tomato, and herbal style. The broth is simmered for over six hours using beef bones and chicken, giving it a rich flavor with a slight cumin aroma. The meat selection is impressive, including wagyu beef, lamb slices, Angus beef, chicken, and several marinated options. The higher tier even includes wagyu for under 30 dollars, which is excellent value. Overall, this is one of the best value all you can eat hot pot spots in Houston with consistent refills, good quality, and a wide variety of options.

We love Happy Lamb Hot Pot! This is our go-to location that never misses…read more We're thrilled about them adding the Tom Yum broth base- it is absolutely delicious. We've previously enjoyed doing the best of both worlds pairing, but since they've added Tom Yum, we now do the pot split 3 ways. The self-serve buffet always has fresh veggies and seafood choices. Our favorites include the spinach, bok choy, shrimp, clams, sweet potato, corn, and pumpkin. I think they've done away with the lobster balls which used to be my favorite, but I've since switched to dumplings which are tasty. I love the items from the hot bar- the orange chicken is yummy. The service here is always attentive and friendly. Hot Pot here always hits.

Shabu Zone is my FAVORITE shabu/hot pot spot in Houston, hands down. In terms of consistency, food,…read moreflavor, and service, it is the best. Big space so good for any occasion! Food: 9/10 Meats: I always get numbers 1, 2, 5, and 6. The meat cuts 1 and 2 are my favorite on the dinner menu because they are so tender and not too fatty. 5 and 6 are my favorites on the lunch menu. Sauce Bar: This is where shabu zone differentiates itself. The sauce bar is not your typical make yourself hot pot sauce, but they also have premade sauces that are delicious. The garlic sauce, black garlic, spicy ponzu, wasabi and corn are amazing. I just can't express enough how amazing it is to have the sauce bar and banchan bar. Banchan Bar: My favorite part of shabu zone and something that keeps me coming back. The onion jalapeno banchan is amazing, sweet and delicious perfect balance to the meat. The kimchi selection is great! I love making wraps with the white radish rounds too. Dessert: Good ice cream selection like their green tea and red bean flavors. Also, the coffee flavor is very good. The Vietnamese fruit cocktail che is also a nice touch that my parents love getting. Vegetable/Noodle options: Good options, I love the pumpkin and broccolli, watercress, spinach, enoki mushroom too! Lots of seafood options and different noodles. The hand pulled korean flat noodles are amazing. Broth: Broth is good, with sukiyaki being a favorite of mine along with Miso and Tonkotsu (vegetarian is nice as well). While the broths here are not as flavorful as rival shabu places like (Shabu En), it is good enough and does not hinder the experience. Overall, I will stand by my love for shabu zone. May be busy and hard to get a table at times though because of how popular they are.

The service was top notch Kevin our waiter was perfect, he explained exactly what us first timers needed to know (we opted for the BBQ vs Hot Pot) and gave excellent amount of service without interrupting too often, but without ignoring. And now my favorite part the food.... We ordered the following for our meat selections: Prime Beef Brisket, Spicy Beef Bulgogi, Garlic Chicken, Pork Belly, Cumin Lamb and Garlic Shrimp. For veggies: Shiitake mushrooms, Mung Bean Sprouts, Onions, Bamboo Shoots, Eggplant, Zucchini and we topped it off with a pineapple drink. My friend said the veal and the pork belly were both delicious, I don't eat either so my review is based on everything else. OMG the flavors were so packed into the meats they needed nothing else. The spicy beef bulgogi was by far my absolute favorite (I polished off two full servings myself) the spice profile was so perfect that it enhanced the beef without masking the natural flavor and the use a good quality beef as well so any toughness is due to your own over cooking which still didn't happen. The shrimp and chicken came in tied for second place for flavor bomb, I'm pretty sure they marinate this stuff for days for it to taste so full of flavor! There is also a fully stocked "Sauce Bar" with so many different kinds of sauces and additions. The inside is very large, but not loud and they have a full bar for those who wish to sit there. If you haven't tried them yet GO! You and your stomach will thank me.

I recently tried this local shabu spot and had a really enjoyable experience. The restaurant was…read moreclean, well-organized, and the atmosphere felt comfortable for both small groups and solo diners. The broth was flavorful but not overly salty, which worked perfectly for cooking the meats and vegetables. The beef slices were thin and fresh, cooking quickly in the broth and staying tender. The vegetable platter was generous and included a nice variety like cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, and noodles. One thing I liked was the sauce bar--there were several options like ponzu, sesame sauce, garlic, and chili so you could customize the flavor exactly how you want. Service was friendly and attentive. The staff explained how to cook the ingredients properly, which is helpful if you're new to shabu-shabu. The only small downside was that it can get a bit busy during peak dinner hours, so you might have to wait for a table. Overall, it's a great spot if you're craving fresh hot pot and a casual dining experience. I'd definitely come back again.

Food: 4.5/5 Service: 2/5…read moreAmbiance: 4.5/5 Overall: 3.4/5 I absolutely love this place, so it pains me to write this review, but I left this time a little bit pissed off. Came in with a group of friends for a late dinner and wanted to order a lot of meats. We ended up ordering 12 meats to start off for the three of us at one of the tables but only ever got 7 of our meats. Wasn't the biggest issue, and I was still fine at this point. For the next ~20min after we finished our meats, I see our waiter walking around, helping out one table at a time and then just dip, not seeing them for a long period of time. Eventually, the lady working at the front desk helps us order our meats, and our waiter comes out 5 minutes later to ask us if we need anything. I don't really know what happened here, everything still tasted great, but waiting this long to eat more really just kind of ruined the vibes of this meal. Hope my next experience is better.
