A conveyer belt ayce hot pot spot. What more can I say? A lot actually! I was so excited when I heard about Chiba hot pot and arrived extremely hungry and with high expectations. I was not disappointed. The staff were so attentive from the moment we entered and we got excellent seating by the conveyor. Our servers took time to explain how the ordering system worked and talked us through the flavorings and spice levels of the different broth bases. The restaurant was large and spacious with plenty of space to navigate to the surprising station containing great sushi, fresh fruit and a variety of desserts, including cake slices, moon cakes, egg tarts and pudding. The meat was delicious and each serving was large The hot pot broths were so rich and I loved the mushroom one! Everything on the conveyor was easy to grab and rotated around in a timely manner. The eggs, tofu and numerous other dishes, including the raw and cooked items off the menu, made for an amazing experience. The red bean and matcha ice cream scoops really was a perfect ending. Highly recommend!

At long last, my yearslong quest to try the infamous conveyor belt hot pot restaurant has come to fruition! I'm rarely up in Northwest Houston but in conjunction with a shop-till-you-drop trip at the premium outlets, the opportunity to visit Chiba was too good to pass up. We gathered a group of friends to join us for weekend lunch (same as dinner pricing) and were warmly welcomed by the waitstaff, who gave us a thorough introduction of the menu, soup choices, and dessert/sauce bar. She took our initial orders before we promptly ran over to the self-service area to make our dipping sauces and try the sushi rolls (which you can skip - it's not called Chiba Sushi, is it?) Once our personal soup pots arrived, we quickly got them up to a rolling boil - here are my thoughts on what we tried: Soup bases - Having ordered different soups at a variety of spice levels, we all started off with a little trade-and-taste! I opted for the gentle yet addictive dashi broth, which was tasty enough to drink on its own but even better at the end of the meal after being enriched with poached/boiled meats and vegetables. The mushroom broth was equally savory and would make for a wonderful vegetarian option; the house spicy was #1 in terms of pure flavor and kick, and I think I might choose either that one or the tom yum next time! Sliced meats - Chiba keeps the a la carte menu relatively simple, with pork, chicken, and two beef options offered during lunch, and the addition of pork belly and lamb for dinner. I thought everything was appropriately fresh and delicious, without freezer burn or funky tastes. Though these are typically delivered on order by the train above the conveyor belt, it was unfortunately out-of-service during our visit. I do hope it is eventually fixed, but until then you have the pleasure of flagging down waitstaff for a refill :) Grilled skewers - These tender morsels of meat are a dinner/weekend exclusive and are known as chuan (串) in China. They're succulent, well-spiced, and great to whet your appetite, though I wish they came out a little sooner compared to other items. Don't miss out on these if you're coming when they're offered! Conveyor belt items - Does the belt live up to the hype? I'm pleased to report that it does! You might expect that ingredients revolving endlessly might lose a bit of their freshness, but because the belt is contained and chilled, most items held up pretty well. I particularly enjoyed the lobster balls, kabocha, fried tofu rolls, and udon noodles - it's easy to sample and choose when gratification is near-instant. Don't worry if you miss something on the first pass, the belt moves quickly enough that you'll have another chance soon enough. Desserts - These are your standard Asian buffet offerings, consisting of layered sponge cakes, tarts, macaroons, fruits, and several ice cream flavors. Try one if you want, but it may be worthwhile to save some stomach space to get dessert elsewhere. Though the place was practically deserted when we first arrived, it did get a little busier by the time we left, which I appreciate with AYCE places to ensure good turnover of ingredients. The staff were really proactive about clearing extra/dirty plates and refilling drinks, so we made sure to leave a good tip! All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to stop by again if I were in the area, especially if weekday lunch pricing is available - hope to be back soon!

Honestly, it sucks to write this review. This was my second time at this restaurant I came back because the food was tasty and I liked the soup they offer for hot pot now with that being said I came to this restaurant because I have a sore throat and I wanted something warm and fulfilling on this beautiful Saturday I walk into the building. I'm with my seven-year-old son. I told the lady it's a hot pot for One. My son does not like hot pot. He would've just played around and waste of food. We stopped somewhere for him to get food before we came here for me to get the hot pot to my throat. The lady tell me if your son touches anything on the table he would have to pay for a meal and I said OK. I understand she repeatedly told me this a total of 11 times I'm actually not kidding a total of 11 times to where I asked her. Does she not understand what I'm saying because if you tell me and I agree 11 times what are we still speaking on it for? I tell her my son has already ate it somewhere he does not like hot pot. The hot pot would just be for me. She walked away. The server comes up. He tells me six times that if my son touches anything on the table that I will have to purchase another meal so I tell him I've already told the lady when I walked in that my son does not like hot pot. It would just be a hot pot for one. I cannot leave my son at home as I am a single parent he would have to come with me right moving on. I tell him the hot pot will be for one we move on the drinks I order a Coke I order my son ate his Sprite after that he says OK so I'm gonna charge you a meal now so I say why would I be getting charged a meal because I'm ordering a Sprite I have just expressed to you and the door lady that my son is not eating here so he goes somewhere that he comes back. He's like OK great so at this point I'm annoyed so I asked to speak to the manager I explained to the manager my son does not like hot pot. The hot pot would just be for me as my throat hurts and I have a horse horse voice. The manager was like OK what was the issue so I'd say the issue is that you guys entire team keeps telling me overly telling me that if my son touches anything on a table he's gonna be harsh and I keep telling them that he's not eating that so the manager, then apologizes also let him know that the cleaning ladies actually came over and we're looking under the table as if I was putting food under the table for my son to eat so again, he apologizes and we move forward I would not recommend this restaurant only because if this is how you would you treat paying customers after confirming with them that is only one person eating multiple times at that point this isn't a business that I would like to support.

Food was super delicious! I had a girls night and we all had a great time! Service was quick and food was really good! We had a good night and felt very relaxed! You get to pick your own soup base and some grilled items or just pick from the small train moving around by the side of the tables. Great experience!

Your own serve ring of unlimited hotpot! It was so good on a cold day. The restaurant and restrooms were clean and the food looked fresh. If you don't see a waiter/waitress, just raise your hand and they will come over. We didn't need much from our waitress because the really cool train brings you your food. I saw someone get a refill on their soup base, I was unsure and got too full to ask for seconds but us saw someone else do it.

2.5/5 stars I pass by this hot pot place a lot, so I finally decided to try it out. So first they hand you a paper menu, and you choose your soup base and spice level. Then, circled on the menu are the things you can order (meats and fried food). Everything else you can get from the conveyer belt, which I thought was a pretty neat concept. Then there's a train that brings out the meats and fried food items that you ordered from the menu. Service was ok. There seemed to be only one server helping out everyone, so it would always take a while whenever we needed something. He was very nice though. The rest of the staff members seemed to be clearing out the plates only. We ordered: - Beef - Sliced beef belly - Lamb - Pork belly - Grilled beef short rib - Grilled beef skewers - Chicken wings - Green tea ice cream Everything here was pretty mid. I got the tom yum soup with the super hot spice level. It was not spicy at all, and lacking in the flavor department. There weren't a lot of meat options for the hot pot, and it wasn't the best quality either. There weren't a lot of sauce options either. I think there were only 6. The conveyor had a lot of veggies, seafood, etc. that you could grab though which was nice. For the fried food, the chicken was really good. It was super crispy and juicy. The grilled beef skewer and grilled beef short ribs were flavorful, but the short ribs were chewy. The green tea ice cream was good, tasted like the typical green tea ice cream at most all you can eat spots.

This was exactly the treat I needed. The dining room is larger than it looks. The train delivering food from the menu is a nice touch. All other items are conveyor style. For the most part, I didn't have to wait long for specific items I wanted to come by even as it got busier throughout the night. I love a good interactive meal. I also love an AYCE. I was there for over 2 hours, and our server was very patient and kept checking on us. He offered tips and cooking times and even made a sauce for us to try. I never felt rushed. I wish the bowls were bigger for serving, and there were ladles for serving out of the hot pot. Had to constantly refill. I tried the chicken base and the mushroom base both medium spice level and they were both super delish and flavorful. I loved the option of hot appetizers, the chicken wings were AMAZINGGG. I can't wait to come back!

Pretty solid individual hotpot spot, I only wish it was closer to Chinatown/inner loop! $18.99 is a decent lunch price for all-you-can-eat hotpot, there's quite a bit to choose from. The food is pretty fresh and you can make your own sauce to get just the right flavor you want. Their house spice broth isn't crazy spicy but it tastes pretty legit! Whichever protein you order, it'll come by the little train, which would make any little kiddo happy. The conveyor belt has a plastic sliding doors to help limit contamination, assuming others actually slide it closed. There's a range of seafood, vegetables, and other hotpot stuffs to choose from, my favorite was the meatballs, which you normally don't see! The only thing I'm sad about is them not having sesame oil, but they do have plenty of minced garlic. Don't forget to get the fried buns! So yummy

I stumbled upon this gem due to my craving for hot pot as it was the new year and holy cow am I glad I did!! Traditionally my family has hot pot for the new year and we always have noodles to hope for a long and prosperous life. My boyfriend searched up this hot pot place so we could go after church mass. I had actually seen this pop up on Instagram a year before so when I walked in through the doors and saw conveyor belts, I instantly knew this was the place! We were greeted by the host at the door and asked how many people- it wasn't very busy luckily as we came just before 6:30pm. We were seated at a booth on the far left side next to the conveyor belt and give 2 paper menus to look over everything. A waitress came by and asked us what we'd like to drink and if we had been here before. We both said no so she explained the menu to us saying there were certain things that we had to order from the waitress but everything else would come on the conveyor and we could select our soup as it was individual pots. I picked (apparently) the spiciest one which was the tom yum kha. I found out during my 2nd visit that this flavor of soup can't have an adjusted spice level as it's already made spicy. My boyfriend got the house special soup which looked very creamy and milky and it tasted very light. When our soups came out, we began opening the mini doors to the conveyor and getting plates of things we saw we wanted as it came by. There's quite a large variety of things but I was disappointed to see not a large selection of noodle types. The main ones they had were Udon, rice cakes or egg noodles. I guess it's because it has to fit on a small bowl on the conveyor belt which is why everything was also cut down in length and size so it wouldn't fall out of the bowl/plate and cause a mess. Everything was cooked fairly quickly in the soup once it began boiling and we ordered 4 portions of sliced beef, as well as some beef skewers. The skewers took some time to come out but the sliced beef came out fairly quickly. It was cut so thin that it cooked almost immediately in the hot broth. Overall it's a great place to eat with family! I even saw some parties of 4-5 people. I wouldn't recommend coming with larger groups because it can be kind of crowded and difficult to get to the conveyor and their booths are only meant for 3-4 people. For groups larger than 4 they'd probably seat you in the center where it's shoulder to shoulder so that everyone has access to the conveyor in front of them but it's not a lot of space to put bowls and things you want to add to your pot without grabbing something and immediately dumping it into the soup to cook while you grab the next thing. The staff are fairly on top of clearing space and collecting piles of small empty bowls. It's all you can eat so definitely worth it and the quality is good as well! I definitely will come back more often!

Great concept. An all you can eat hot pot spot. All hot pots are individual, which is nice for cleanliness. The raw food is on a conveyor belt that you can pluck from. The cooked food you can order (skewers, chicken wings, etc) are delivered via this cute bullet train. There's a self serve station for sauces and deserts. The deserts was okay. Service was good! Be careful to not intake too much sodium, otherwise you may feel super thirsty afterwards

Lots of options even for lunch.

Ordering is done through an online system, which is cool in theory, though my service struggled a bit, thankfully my brother had no issues, so we made it work. We ordered the triple broth: spicy bone tallow, tomato, and chicken. The spicy broth definitely packs a punch (even for spice lovers-stay hydrated ). The tomato broth was rich, savory, and hands-down my favorite. The chicken broth was a little bland, but the overall flavors were still solid. While I wish there was a bigger meat and seafood selection (especially for seafood lovers like me), everything we ordered was delicious. Overall, Old Alley Hot Pot is a great spot for date night, a fun dinner with friends or family, or even a cozy solo outing. Highly recommend for the experience alone.

The food at Shabu En is so good! The service is very thoughtful also and they're very attentive. The decorations in the restaurant is also very nice and it's very clean too. When you walk in, there is a waiting area where you can sit while waiting to be seated. They also provide some water and snacks in the front while waiting. It also has a photo spot near the front. For the food, there is a big selection. They have lots of soup bases, and it's possible to switch soup bases if you feel tired of the one you started with. I tried a few and they were all good. The flavors start to mix after you put in your hotpot ingredients, so I would suggest drinking some of the soup beforehand. My favorite broth I tried was the duck broth. You can really taste the duck and it's the most flavorful to me, and someone in the group said you can really taste the five spice powder (I couldn't but I liked it a lot). The tonkatsu is pretty decent and tastes like what you expect. I tried the Shabu En special broth, and it tastes like dashi soup. Very standard and pretty good broth. In my opinion, the sukiyaki broth is good for short term broth and just dipping your meat temporarily. To me the sweetness overpowered the soy sauce flavor, but it's still very good. You get your meat by ordering with the server, but they come by very often and it comes out very quickly that you don't really notice a long period without any meat. At the center where you grab veggies and the sauce bar, there are sections where you can get drinks, such as tea and Vietnamese coffee, which is in addition to the drinks you can order off the menu. There is also a small dessert station but it's a must try! It has a snow shaved ice, and it has a toppings bar next to it with toppings and different sauces you can put on it. Overall, it's a really good AYCE restaurant that's definitely worth trying out.

It is definitely spicy, but nothing that I couldn't handle. The Tomato Broth was delicious as well, but added a nice sweetness to our meal. We chose the Classic All-You-Can-Eat lunch deal, and ordered a plate of the Natural Prime-Aged Lamb, the Hand Sliced Beef Short Plate, the Marinated Garlic Beef, and the Pork Belly; I can't say I'm a huge fan of how they divided the meat selections, however, since I could get premium meat elsewhere without being limited. Similarly, you can fetch your own iced drinks and dessert too. I do wish Happy Lamb's sauce station had special pre-made flavors or instructions for making them, much like Shabu Zone or Haidilao; sometimes I don't trust myself to freestyle my own sauce. There are some cross-contamination concerns as well, since there'd be about 4 tongs at foot/pants level, but at least 9 food options (e.g., noodles, dumplings, veggies) to choose from. Not sure if other people share the same sentiment, but I guess they all get boiled in the end anyway. Overall, it's a decent option if you're in Downtown Houston! But I wouldn't call Happy Lamb my go-to spot.

Shabu Zone is my FAVORITE shabu/hot pot spot in Houston, hands down. In terms of consistency, food,…read moreflavor, and service, it is the best. Big space so good for any occasion! Food: 9/10 Meats: I always get numbers 1, 2, 5, and 6. The meat cuts 1 and 2 are my favorite on the dinner menu because they are so tender and not too fatty. 5 and 6 are my favorites on the lunch menu. Sauce Bar: This is where shabu zone differentiates itself. The sauce bar is not your typical make yourself hot pot sauce, but they also have premade sauces that are delicious. The garlic sauce, black garlic, spicy ponzu, wasabi and corn are amazing. I just can't express enough how amazing it is to have the sauce bar and banchan bar. Banchan Bar: My favorite part of shabu zone and something that keeps me coming back. The onion jalapeno banchan is amazing, sweet and delicious perfect balance to the meat. The kimchi selection is great! I love making wraps with the white radish rounds too. Dessert: Good ice cream selection like their green tea and red bean flavors. Also, the coffee flavor is very good. The Vietnamese fruit cocktail che is also a nice touch that my parents love getting. Vegetable/Noodle options: Good options, I love the pumpkin and broccolli, watercress, spinach, enoki mushroom too! Lots of seafood options and different noodles. The hand pulled korean flat noodles are amazing. Broth: Broth is good, with sukiyaki being a favorite of mine along with Miso and Tonkotsu (vegetarian is nice as well). While the broths here are not as flavorful as rival shabu places like (Shabu En), it is good enough and does not hinder the experience. Overall, I will stand by my love for shabu zone. May be busy and hard to get a table at times though because of how popular they are.

Wish I could give them 20 stars! My friend suggested we try this place out and as neither of us…read morehave ever been before we decided to try it. And I'm so glad we did! The service was top notch Kevin our waiter was perfect, he explained exactly what us first timers needed to know (we opted for the BBQ vs Hot Pot) and gave excellent amount of service without interrupting too often, but without ignoring. And now my favorite part the food.... We ordered the following for our meat selections: Prime Beef Brisket, Spicy Beef Bulgogi, Garlic Chicken, Pork Belly, Cumin Lamb and Garlic Shrimp. For veggies: Shiitake mushrooms, Mung Bean Sprouts, Onions, Bamboo Shoots, Eggplant, Zucchini and we topped it off with a pineapple drink. My friend said the veal and the pork belly were both delicious, I don't eat either so my review is based on everything else. OMG the flavors were so packed into the meats they needed nothing else. The spicy beef bulgogi was by far my absolute favorite (I polished off two full servings myself) the spice profile was so perfect that it enhanced the beef without masking the natural flavor and the use a good quality beef as well so any toughness is due to your own over cooking which still didn't happen. The shrimp and chicken came in tied for second place for flavor bomb, I'm pretty sure they marinate this stuff for days for it to taste so full of flavor! There is also a fully stocked "Sauce Bar" with so many different kinds of sauces and additions. The inside is very large, but not loud and they have a full bar for those who wish to sit there. If you haven't tried them yet GO! You and your stomach will thank me.

Had a great meal with friends on New Year's Day…read more The venue is older and needs a bit more effort on upkeep. It is eclectic, decorated in an Asian pop culture theme with [sometimes promiscuous lol] music videos playing on a big projector screen. And, it is honestly loud (booths are in rather close proximity to one another and there's constant clatter & commotion from the table action). We had a few issues - the grill didn't stay hot (either malfunctioning or low on fuel), there weren't any hot buffet options (like other locations offer), and a few menu items were unavailable (ran out) - but we enjoyed our meal, nonetheless. Even with a few missing offerings, there is plenty of variety - meats, seafood, vegetables, soups, noodles & rice. The sauce bar has many condiments & dips; you can play mad scientist with your seasonings/marinade. And, there was a cold buffet that offered kimchi and a few fruits. They also had a long list of beverages that included boozy cocktails and exotic smoothies or teas. Kevin was an outstanding server - extremely attentive & superbly patient (bless his heart for accommodating our rowdy and very needy group of newbies lol). He was assisted by a hard working team of table runners and busters who kept us stockpiled and refilled. The crew made sure things were never amiss. Some tips for first-timers: -The AYCE pricing is applied to the whole table, so you have to make a group decision if you want to do bbq or hotpot or both ($5 add on). -Holidays and weekends are priced for Dinner all day. -They don't take reservations, so there may be a wait (especially if you have a large group). -It is booth seating throughout, with a max of 6 people per booth. -You have a 2 hour time limit (which seems like a lot, but you do have to wait for meat to cook on the grill). Venue: 4.0 Ambiance: 3.0 Food (Taste / Variety) 4.5 Service: 5.0

The restaurant was…read moreclean, well-organized, and the atmosphere felt comfortable for both small groups and solo diners. The broth was flavorful but not overly salty, which worked perfectly for cooking the meats and vegetables. The beef slices were thin and fresh, cooking quickly in the broth and staying tender. The vegetable platter was generous and included a nice variety like cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, and noodles. One thing I liked was the sauce bar--there were several options like ponzu, sesame sauce, garlic, and chili so you could customize the flavor exactly how you want. Service was friendly and attentive. The staff explained how to cook the ingredients properly, which is helpful if you're new to shabu-shabu. The only small downside was that it can get a bit busy during peak dinner hours, so you might have to wait for a table. Overall, it's a great spot if you're craving fresh hot pot and a casual dining experience. I'd definitely come back again.

I did try all of the meats and it was a lot of food but every cut was great! Nice open restaurant with plenty of seating and arranged so you feel as if you have your own space. The only reason I dropped it by a star was that there was only one person waiting on a large portion of the guests. She really tried hard and this is not a knock on her. But even though it was a slow night she struggled to keep up at times. I would have given it 4.5 if I had the choice.
