Pretty great little spot here in Bushwick. I stopped by around 8:30 this morning for an ice coffee and to get some work done. Mission accomplished in both regards. Their ice coffee is legit. It's strong and not served with so more ice than anyone would ever want. It's spot on. They even give you a complimentary glass of water on the side. I'm a fan of this spot. For $5, a large coffee and water is definitely not a bad deal. Their pastries look pretty legit too. I don't come to this part of Brooklyn often, but if and when I return, I will return to Sey. I love craft coffee, and even in a city full of good coffee shops, Sey is pretty exceptional in quality. What's also really cool about Sey is their space. Goodness, the shop itself is gorgeous. In a city where space is scarce and many good coffee shops can't afford large spaces, Sey not only is large but it's so pretty inside. The skylights that let in a lot of natural light, the layout, ample places to study or chat, the plants... just a really pretty coffee shop. Came with a few friends, lattes were ordered, I got an espresso, all very good. But their POUR OVER (Kenya Gititu) that my wife ordered was amazing. The notes were very obvious, the flavor profile was incredibly multi-faceted (fruity, but not tart or acidic), tasted reminiscent of a black tea. Super good. Great coffee, the seating is kind of uncomfortable and the placement of the tables and seating areas is pretty awkward honestly so I don't really recommend it as a cafe to stay and get work done. Although they haven't had seating at all in the past year due to covid, maybe this would be a good opportunity to change the seating when they eventually reopen when it's safe. It's great they take covid so seriously, more than other cafes and roasters in the area. read more

A gem of a coffeeshop tucked away in Brooklyn. We were lucky to find that this place was only a 10 minute walk away from our Airbnb, very convenient. This place has a chill and hipster vibe and it contains an array of beautiful plants throughout the whole shop. There are many hanging plants which were pretty and a giant rooftop window that let in a lot of sunlight. I visited this place twice and I tried the espresso with milk (aka latte) and an almond croissant. The drink was really good, not too bitter. The croissant was quite flakey and fresh and had this yummy almond filling. Lots of seating is available. Prices were okay, your average coffee shop prices. Staff were fast and friendly. I am quite happy to be the naysayer here. Coffee demands truth. Yes these are pretty subtle roasts. First the bean used on my latte was just inappropriately bland, a wan, washed out choice that didn't deliver the goods. The handleless cups are just a bit fey. Serving the coffee in a carafe is fey again and it loses heat as it's transferred to the chawan, or coffeewan? So the coffee isn't hot. Neither of the 2 coffees I ordered was hot. No darker roasts here, and although I'd never step into a sundollar establishment, I was yearning for something strong and hot because the cup of Joe served at Sey was way too fey. read more

It probably helped that I went on a perfect 70 degree sunny day and they opened up the whole front space, allowing for plenty of daylight to flood in. I really enjoyed my oat milk chai latte! Love the oatly oat milk- my #1 option for non dairy milk. They also use Dona Chai which is one of my favorite Chai concentrates. They also have other coffee drinks which I did not try. Big open space concept inside with lots of plants on the walls. There aren't a ton of seats because it seems they wanted to keep it minimalistic. There are some small tables in the perimeter and also these really cute geometric benches. If you don't look out on the street, you will probably believe you are in a hipster part of Cali! Awesome coffee shop to chill, chat and hang out in a super peaceful/serene setting. The glass garage doors add a unique touch! I will be back when I am in the area for sure. read more

SUMMARY: Open coffee shop with lots of plants and an extremely minimalist vibe. They served SPARKING WATER with my coffee which really blew my mind (seriously!) and it was kind of funny to me that the front wall of the place is a popular backdrop for pictures (probably for fashion photo bloggers?) because there was a photoshoot going on when I went. Kind of wish someone took a picture of me when I was there... Like others have said, they don't do tips here (but you already pay $5 for a drink so...) VERDICT: I would return again for their coffee. I probably wouldn't recommend this space to work because I didn't really see many outlets (not sure if I saw any at all, but I wasn't looking for them!) and there wasn't too much sitting room for your computer, in my opinion. ITEM ORDERED: Latte -- the coffee was so good! I don't actually know if they roast their own beans here or not, but it was delicious and kind of creamy. Do you guys ever let your latte sit around for a bit and see a bunch of bubbles in your drink after? Does it creep you out? Well, I don't know what exactly they do here, but I did let my latte sit around for a while to take pics and catch up on some texts, and my latte STAYED foamy and did not bubble at all. I suspect that the bubbling may be due to how how the milk is when they pour it in so I guess I can say that this is well controlled at this place, which I really appreciated! The space is gorgeous and the lighting is good, although if you want a space to work, there is more seating towards the back end of the space which does not have great access to light. In my opinion, it was pretty dark. I did kind of think that they could have utilised the space a little better because it seemed a little too empty to me. Open space is a good thing; too much open space is a waste. There is seating along one of the walls in one of those continuous bench kind of styles (minus the table), a couple of tables in the back, and a little bar on the back wall with stools that I saw some people working in (maybe that's where the outlets were?). The people working there were pretty nice and the music was vibrant. 5-star coffee, 2-star service, $5 espresso served in a disposable paper cup by default. I went to Sey, with a friend who was visiting and about to leave, so we were in a hurry. It is just 10 minute walk from where I live The coffee tasted very nice and smooth. But I was disappointed they were served in disposable paper cups at $5 for an espresso and $5 for a cortado. It really cheapens the experience and prevents from really appreciating the flavor. It also creates unnecessary waste, contributing to NYC's garbage problem. I know that in my native hometown of Milan an espresso and cappuccino cost less than $/€ 1.5 and drinking from a ceramic cup makes a difference. I would have appreciated a better serving experience from a top roaster in NYC, especially considering the premium prices. The coffee is good, but the paper cup really cheapens the experience. Paper cups should be used only when expressly asked for, not be the default option. For environmental issues and service quality. $5 espresso should not come in a paper cup. At least they did not provide a wasteful plastic lid and the cup has no plastic film lining. read more

You've groups huddled here typing away on their laptops and you've those who are just killing time with their group of friends until it's time for their next event/gathering. From start to finish it was robust with flavor, unique notes and smooth finish. I decided to purchase some beans to take home, which I enjoyed the subsequent week. They also do a nice drip or americano. Minus the snotty attitude that usually runs rampant in Brooklyn baristas. They're gratuity free- yeah, pretty cool. So you'll pay a bit more than average to help support their friendly staff. The inside is bright and pleasant, a great place to sit and chat, get some work done. It's a great place to get some work done on a Saturday afternoon. All their coffees have a unique flavor undertone. I have only tried the La Esmeralda so far, but am looking forward to coming back.
