Love the sextant in Edna and thought I'd try out the new sextant on 46 but this is not the experience I expected! My husband and I waited at our table for 20 mins and no one came to start our tasting or said anything! We just ended up leaving! If you are in the area go next door to Grey wolf cause there hospitality was amazing and really made us wish we didn't leave to go here. read more

DO NOT JOIN THEIR MEMBERSHIP. THEY CHARGE YOUR CARD WITHOUT TELLING YOU, REFUSE TO STOP THE SHIPMENT AND REFUND YOUR CARD, AND THIS CYCLE REPEATS AFTER YOU SAY YOU WANT TO CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP. They also charge your card, don't ship it due to "hot weather, " and never tell you about it unless you call them. 8/27/18 - We get a charge for about $200 on our credit card. We immediately called them, saying we wanted to cancel. No matter what, they said they cannot cancel the shipment for whatever reason. Something like, once it's this far is the process, they can't cancel it, and there's nothing they can do. We gave up and said, we'll accept the last shipment, but we want our membership cancelled. We had moved out of state, but they were perfectly fine with updating our shipping address from California to Texas, "this far in the process." Go figure. Fast forward to the end of September. We never got the wine, so my husband called them. They finally told us they couldn't ship it because of the hot weather, and they were afraid the wine will spoil. My husband asked to cancel the shipment and the membership AGAIN, and once again, they said THEY COULDN'T CANCEL THE SHIPMENT AND REFUND OUR CARD for whatever reason. Fast forward to early October. We finally received the wine. 10/26/18 - We see a pending charge from them for about $200 AGAIN! WTF!!! My husband called and they admitted to their "mistake." 10/29/18 - Finally I see a refund posted to our credit card. This entire experience has thoroughly annoyed us and stressed us out. read more

We had a wonderful visit to Sextant winery. We generally travel very early and like places that open early. It is nice when you don't feel like you are interrupting someone who is just waking up. We were welcomed from the moment we walked in the door with our dog Rex. The wine was excellent both my wife and I found favorites and we purchased a few. Now understand that we generally start at opposite ends of the menu, so for us to both land on the same favorites is rare. read more

Be extremely careful of their scam practices for joining the wine club. They are completely inept to handle any kind of shipping, even within California. They have robots to answer the phone, you cannot speak to a real person, and they have no follow-through or customer service. They charged me $36 for shipping for a wine club order that was supposed to be received on a Thursday. It did not come until the following Monday. In the meantime the wine sits on a hot fedex truck until the shipping folks can get their act together. And don't buy the story of "temperature controlled" shipments. They put one single refrigerator pack in the shipment of 6 bottles, which has long since lost any "cold" when the box is opened. This organization is reminiscent of the Keystone Kops. read more

Beautiful indoor tasting room setup to be very conversational. It was perfect for our group of 9 adults. Amy, the tasting room rep was absolutely lovely, welcoming and knowledgeable. Great wines too and very reasonable price points. The only point I would just make note of is that it's not a great location to bring young kids too. There's not a place they can be that you can keep your eye on them while tasting. Also, not a location to do lunch. However, this was where we started our day and it was a great kickoff!! The reviews of this place are hit and miss for a good reason. Came here in the pouring rain on a girls weekend in March. It wasn't late and it wasn't busy, but it still took a fair while for one of the people behind the counter to acknowledge us. We ended up with a blonde lady probably in her 50's who took as long as possible between pours. The wine was ok. The blend was nice and so was one of the others. Couldn't help but think tho that they were quite expensive compared to neighboring wineries who served comparably better wine? Their policy is that you have to buy two bottles of wine in order to waive the tasting fee, so either you buy two or none as it doesn't seem worth the money to have them add $10 to an already expensive bottle of wine. Probably won't come back on our next trip down. read more

Another place where I was leery about the wines, after seeing the building. Most of the luck the GF and I have had with really cool buildings is the wines lack. I'm talking the huge places that look like a resort rather then a winery. There were no cars and we were wondering if it was closed. It was a Wednesday afternoon, so who knows. Oh, darn, guess we should get out and check. Call it selfish, but we love walking into a place that is empty. Walking in, the tasting room was great looking. I loved the earthy tones to it. The bar is in the center of the room with a back room I'm assuming is for members. A woman comes out of a room on the right side and greets us pleasantly. Ah! total attention. For me, the reason is to do a lot of shop talk and pick the pourers brain. What they like, what they taste. As for the wines, I had a lot of fun with the '10 Wheelhouse Zin, '10 Petite Sirah, '08 Night Watch and my stand out wine was the '10 Tannat. A place to def keep an eye on. read more

This is an upstart winery with much potential. Positives: Their wines are wonderful to say the least. I can enjoy them both summer and winter so well worth it. Some very bold reds, but not too over the top and their whites are perfect for a warm summer day. The tasting room. Tasting room is large so you don't feel crowded. Plenty of space at the counter and plenty of elbow room. Staff is attentive and depending on who you get is either friendly and outgoing, or meets the minumum attention requirement, but either way you may be happy becuase you came to talk or came to taste. Negatives: This was my biggest disappointment. Pouring fee. $10 per person. Not unusual for the area. My displeasure is that the tasting fee is not waived if you purchase a bottle. The fee is only waived if you purchase 12 or more bottles. WHAT? You mean I can save $20 by spending over $200. Most other tasting rooms will waive the tasting fee if you purchase at least 1 bottle. The VIP room. Sorry, but a glass wall seperating me from the "VIP"s does not impress me. The VIP room is decent size, has a fireplace and two small flatscreens. Beyond that nothing impressive, but if you want to sit in chairs and feel superior to the other people in the tasting room who are not wine club members, then knock yourselves out. I'll stay with the Non VIP's. Signage. Look carefully for their sign. It's tricky. When you see it, you have already passed the entrance. Next stop, Niner winery. Like I said, they are growing and building so I'm sure it will get corrected. read more

This winery came highly recommended... A lot of money has been put into their tasting room and club members room. It has a bit of a corporate feel for my wife and I. Coming from a couple who can appreciate a $300 bottle to a $15 bottle, we felt the wines were mediocre for the price point. We purchased a unique blend, Caledoc, for $38 to wipe off the tasting fee...except we were still charged a $10 tasting fee. We aren't certain if that's policy, or just a pourer banking a few extra books. No value in the bottle, scenery wasn't for us, $10 tasting fee on the way out the door, we will pass this stop on our next trip. read more

I went to this vineyard to do a wine tasting after having it highly recommended by a friend who visited them prior to the move to the new location. Our group of 12 women were met with less than a warm welcome even though we had an appointment for our tasting. The Paso Wine event was going on in town and the two women working seemed like they drew the short straw and were left behind to serve the guests. Let's say their attitudes were poor and customer service skills were worse. At the prior vineyards we visited we bought an average of two cases, at their tasting room only 4 bottles because we all felt that our money could be better spent somewhere else. I do think the facility is nice, wines are good but they need to do some serious training with their twenty something staff about customer service. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about Sextant! My wife and I were first introduced to them at their SLO tasting room by Tony (the ex fireman) who was awesome. He was very informative with the tasting notes and got us to become members of the First Mate wine Club. Such an fabulous idea that was! We tried the Genoa and it's our most favorite red wine blend ever! It's perfect. Recently, we were able to do a VIP tasting in Paso Robles. The tasting room there is quite different than SLO but the folks are just as welcoming. If you like wine, you should absolutely try Sextant's wines. You will not be disappointed. read more

A nice, intimate tasting room with a great staff! Connor handled our tasting. Friendly, knowledgable, but didn't make me feel like I was an idiot because I wasn't an expert in wine. Everyone working in the tasting area was so personable. The wine was great and by far my favorite set of tastings for the entire day. Even types of wines I typically don't care for, shocked me. I hate Zins for the most part and I came home with a bottle of it. If it wasn't our first stop of the day, I would have gone home with a whole lot more. I will definitely be back. read more

I hate how you can't give a half start rating on Yelp. Sextant would get 3.5 from me, but I can't justify 4. Originally my wife and I visited and were knocked off or feet by customer service. We came in around 4:15, which is probably the worst time to start a tasting. Instead of the normal exasperation one may get from a tired employee, we were lead through the lineup by a cheery attendee. She did mention she worked at the welcome center for Paso, it showed. Because of this, we were impressed enough to visit again with the in-laws. Boy, did that ever come back to bite me in the rear..... Over the course of a week the entire feel had changed. We came in around noon; early enough for the room to be fresh, but not groggy. This occurrence went sour quickly as the pourer showed a general disinterest in my family. It's not enough for me to rant on, but I can say that my entire perspective changed with the attitude of the pourer. She may have been having a bad day, by ensured that ours was as well. As for the wine, I would describe it as average. It was actually on the thin side, but that is up for debate amongst pallets. The one positive on the list is the Chardonnay. Kid you not, tasted like popcorn. That's pretty neat, but not enough butter to cover the drastic fluctuation of customer service. read more

Another cute little winery in Paso. I was shocked this place was empty on a Sunday afternoon, but it was nice to have the server for ourselves! She was super friendly. We got to learn a lot about Sextant and it was nice to get the back story of a winery and understand their name a little bit more. The room was unlike anything I have ever seen before, very relaxed and modern. Now the wines were the star of the place. Their GMS blends were mind blowing. I love how delicious they tasted. I also really liked their pinot noir. Paso doesn't have a lot of pino grapes but they get their grapes from Edna Valley about an hour away where they have some vineyards. The pinot was nice a fruitful. They also had a zinfandel and a cabernet that we tried. We also enjoyed those, but they are the ones you can buy in the store so we figured we would hold off on purchasing them. The only reason for only 4 stars is that the price is a little high to me. Not only the bottle cost but the fact that you cant get your tasting waived unless you buy 3 or more bottles. To me, I understand paying for a tasting- but if I am showing genuine interest in your wine and am purchasing bottles and getting information on the wine the tasting fee should be waived. But to be fair that didn't stop me from buying some bottles- the wine really is great. Give this place a try!! read more

My partner and I decided to spend New Year's in Paso Robles and get away from the Bay Area. Our first stop was Sextant. The view, entrance and tasting room are beautiful. They have beautiful labradorite counters and have a nautical theme. My partner is Ghanaian and I am Filipino. When we entered Sextant, we noticed it was extremely busy and there were only 2 people working. We took a space for a tasting and decided to do the $25 tasting + reserves. It was so busy, our server never gave us any descriptions of the wine. Rather they told us the name, poured and briskly walked away to pour wine for other people. The workers almost seemed annoyed and overwhelmed. We decided to skip the reserves because of the terrible and impersonal service. When I tried to tell the server we wanted to skip the reserves and pay, she said "oh you want to buy it?" I said "no, I want to pay." And she replied "well, do you want to buy any wine?" Again, no, I just want to pay and leave. I don't think my partner and I will be coming back. read more

We had a nice experience at Sextant. Everyone was friendly and pleasant and continued pouring for us even past closing! We especially enjoyed the Kamal red blend. As a result, we eagerly joined their wine club...but only to discover that they ship everything in thick blocks of styrofoam! We have 5 other club memberships and they all use cardboard. As a result, we have cancelled our membership. This is a nice winery with lovely wines, but we just can't in good conscience support and encourage that kind of environmental negligence. Styrofoam has almost no recycling centers, takes hundreds of years to biodegrade (if ever), and is banned in over 100 California cities and a growing number of states. So many wineries are leading the charge in sustainability and farm-to-table efforts, it's surprising to find that Sextant has this contradiction. read more

I'm not a big fan of leaving reviews. Businesses can have good and bad days, and with yelp people normally focus on the bad. But in this case, with Sextant, I was extremely put off. Sextant was supposed to be our first stop, as soon as I told my husband that's where we were going, he says,"my friends and I had a really bad experience there, you sure you want to go there?" I said yes. We had called at the beginning of the week, they said they open at 10 and to just walk right in. We did, and got turned away. There was a group of us, that's why we made sure to call ahead. But they didn't care. There was absolutely no one in the parking lot. And yet, still turned away. The lady working said because they had reservations already, that they couldn't serve us. If that was the case, why tell us to walk in?? We would have gone somewhere else, and not wasted our time driving 2 hrs to get there. We went elsewhere, people had asked where we had gone, and ran into a whole bunch of people that have had the same experience, and would never return. And sadly, we are in that same boat. Customer service is everything, word of mouth is strong. We will never return. read more
