It's 2pm. There's a rumble in my tummy. I only have $5 and some change. Unfortunately, all the places that deliver to my store are a bit pricey, and the ones within walking distance aren't too tasty. Then (insert angelic choir noises here) I find the menu for 7 Subs. Take out or delivery? YAY! Mmmmm, sandwiches. OOOOO- Hot dogs too. Add on a few delicious toppings. Throw on a small side of tater salad (pretty tasty.) Oh, and a can of pop. Now I've got me a meal. And for only $5.25. Honestly, I think I have eaten more hot dogs in the past 3 months than I've eaten in the past 15 years total. read more

I came here guided by Yelp sometime last semester. I was really hungry, so I grabbed my roommate and her friend and we made the short trek over to Sevens. It's a small hole in the wall, and when we arrived the delicious smell of bacon wafted out the door. I went with the Lucky 7. I'd heard the portions were really large so I made sure to order a small. And requested for a pickle. Now, I don't know if I'm some colossal fatass or something, (I'm actually a short Indian girl), but I was still hungry after finishing this sandwich. Like, really really hungry. My roommate and her friend were full. Had I known, I would have definitely gone for a large. Pickle was really salty, more than I like, so next time I'd refrain from requesting it. The sandwich itself was good. Tasty, warm, gooey. But I really don't think a small is that...umm...big. I've yet to go back but have a feeling that a reunion is at hand. read more

This place just saved my life, after a disappointing trip to to Lady Grace (mean brookline ladies, don't get me started). I was starving and luckily it was off-hours so I popped in and ordered a tuna melt. It was everything you could want from a sandwich: good-quality tuna salad and cheese, some tangy unidentifiable sauce (thousand island maybe?), all in good proportion on crispy toasted bread. The sandwich, a "regular," set me back $5 and looked small when I opened the paper but was actually the perfect size. It's a narrow counter joint, no tables or much room to wait. I imagine the line's pretty fierce around lunch time. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches and a few wraps and also chips, cookies, juices and soda. They apparently only give you a pickle if you want one, which I approve of since I don't like pickles. The menu on the counter states this, and says you can refer to their "pickle white paper" for more information, although I didn't see of of those on the counter. read more

Definitely one of my favorite places! I moved to the neighborhood last year and it quickly became a great spot for a quick sandwich to bring home or grab with a friend. The menu has tons of options and they make everything pretty quickly. The guys behind the counter are pretty nice and remember you pretty quickly if you come by a few times. Definitely plan to eat your sandwich somewhere else because there's no place to sit ... it is as close to a literal hole in the wall as a store can get. I recommend the Turkey-V, or the Simple Italian ... but the ONLY downside is they close very early on Sundays. read more

I tried this place two months ago after living in Coolidge Corner for over 2 years. How could I miss out for so long? It's probably because this little gem is located off a side street in what seems to be a closet-of-a-deli. Small, cramped, hot--you wouldn't notice it unless you're walking past it on Beacon Street or a resident of Brookline, most likely. This local favorite of construction workers, plumbers, cablemen and the local people who love a great, quick sub: hot, fresh, meat, cheese and three pieces of bread layered with delicious warm insides. I guess this shop started out with only seven great subs and quickly grew to include wraps and sandwiches as well as the classic 7. The cost is reasonable (about 5-7$ for a hot, warm excitingly good sandwich) The sandwiches aren't extremely clever (no caramelized onions or spinach on exotic breads)--its laid-back sub fare but way better prepared than you'll find around the corner at *ugh* quiznos or subway or any other sub chain. I recommend this place for a quick, yummy lunch on a lazy weekend for lunch or a ultra fast dinner. The only problem is you better be ready to take your order to go or be prepared to eat it on the street. There are few chairs outside of the place which are pretty rad on warm days but soon as it gets colder this sub place will be the sort of place you visit on the run (or to grab a bite to sneak into the coolidge corner movie theater with...). Also, as much as the wraps are better than the toasted, hot, heart-attack subs and sandwiches this place isn't for the health conscious or the veggie-fans out there. I decided to give this place 3 stars because though it's good--there isn't a lot of options for people who aren't carnivores and you can't eat in--in fact there is hardly room to stand! read more

I think the term hidden gem was coined specifically for Seven Subs. Tucked down Centre Street in Coolidge Corner and blocked from view by the giant intimate apparel store on the corner, Seven Subs is quietly churning out cheap and delicious subs (grinders, hoagies, whatever you want to call them) from a literal hole in the wall (I'm talking window service, people). The friendly cashier taking orders recommended the Lucky Seven and, let me tell you, the combination of turkey, cole slaw, russian dressing, and melted swiss atop a toasted sub roll made me feel like a lucky man indeed. The 10-inch large may have been a bit small for me (the ingredients weren't exactly bursting at the seams), but I think most people would be satisfied with the size of the sandwich. Me, I like my sandwiches like I like my men, big and packing major meat. read more

A very solid local business. They make good sandwiches and decent hot dogs, are open very reasonable hours and the prices are perfectly respectable. I personally recommend the Brookline Club and the Unforgiven Hot Dog. Granted, it can be a pain waiting on the sidewalk. In Winter you'll freeze and in Summer you'll roast (but not nearly as much as the poor guys that work in that tiny kitchen do). And they don't have anything on the menu that stands out as being spectacular. But they have do have easy access to lots of parking. All told, not a great place, but a respectably good one. read more

Whenever I go to Boston on business I stay at the Marriott in Coolidge Corner. One of my "Holy Trinity" of spots I hit on a weekly basis is Seven Subs (Anna's and Shawarma King round out the three) When they coined the term "hole in the wall" Seven Subs was the template. This place is the tiniest food joint I've ever seen. But oh how wonderful is the food. I usually order the turkey bacon club, a triple decker sandwich with turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The bacon is cooked to order, not like most places which keep cold, fried bacon in a bin. A side of chips and a root beer make this a sublime, inexpensive meal. If you go, be sure and ask for a pickle; they have the best fresh garlicky pickles I've ever eaten. read more

Each of the components were fresh and tasty, but the wrap - and quantity of said contents - were tiny! It's Your Lucky Day When You Eat At Seven Subs! Seven Subs has the chronic problem of always tasting AMAZING! This place is literally a hole in the wall. There are no indoor seats. You step up to a Dutch door and place your order. You can stand by the door, or take a seat at one of about 5 patio tables around the corner to wait, and that's all there is. The sandwiches, however, offer so much more. So many options, a plethora of subs, clubs, and sandwiches that are all pretty fantastic. The turkey club and unforgiven are a couple of my favorites, but by no means the only ones I order. Seven Subs is located around the corner from Lady Grace at 1364 Beacon St- and it is delightful! My boyfriend and I shared a small 'Lucky 7', a small 'Wilbur' and a small potato salad. We were both satisfied with this as our lunch. The Wilbur was pretty tasty- but it tasted like a sandwich I would make at home, so I wasn't blown away. Now, the Lucky 7- Be still my heart! It was so delicious! Saucy and zippy and all things I look for in a sandwich. The bread they used was also fresh and delicious. They were out of macaroni salad, so we opted for the potato, which was shockingly great and tasted like a summer picnic. Creamy, with lots of dill. I have paid double for sub par, mediocre at best, sandwiches at restaurants and bars in Brookline, so I'm pleased to know this place exists! This review will be for service, not substance. Why? Because after multiple attempts to procure sandwiches for a group of 4, it seemed the stars would not align and our plans for subs would require a substitute. 1. Why would you advertise delivery on your website and PDF menus when in fact, you do not deliver. Also, I find it hard to believe that I was the first person to ever call and request delivery only to learn you no longer offer delivery. Why were you so surprised, Seven Subs? Why weren't you more understanding on the phone? Why, really why, would you not update your website? 2. I have never been asked "Can you go run an errand and come back?" when placing a sub order. Especially when the first thing said when ordering is, "This is for 4 sandwiches." At that point, did it not occur to you that maybe you could mention the wait? No, let me waste my lunch break and order 4 sandwiches only to have you then tell me with a sour look on your face: "That's going to be a while." "How long?" "Hard to tell." "Really? No idea how long?" "I don't know. Twenty minutes?" "Forget it." 3. And finally, what kind of deli does not have pickles? Again, when your menu has a clarifying statement that pickles are provided upon request only. Then you go on to have details about the various costs for extra pickles. The audacity. Stop marketing things you do not have. Pickles, delivery, etc. I am disappointed. I am hangry. I will not be returning. read more

You'd never know this place was here, if someone didn't physically bring you there, and yet I've never been by here without seeing at least 3 or 4 people waiting for their sub. They don't make the best sub I've ever had, but many times I've sat thinking about what I want to eat on a random Saturday afternoon, and I have a really hard time arguing myself out of walking my ass to Sevens. I hate potato salad, but the way people go on about the Unforgiven you'd think it was made with meth or something. Anyone I've ever seen eat one, closes their eyes and has the most bizarre expression of sexual fulfillment as they chew. Whatever floats your boat, you mayo-eating weirdos. Anyway, Seven Subs is just a really solid sub shop. It's what they do and they do it well. I found out about this place through a couple of brookline townies. I loooove this place! I am from the south and the only thing better is a publix sub. However, these subs come very darn close. The rolls are always fresh and you can tell the meat is fresh and good quality as well. Yes, you order from a window to get your food, but boston is famous for amazing food trucks.. No difference. So... on the 8th day God created the sandwich. All sandwiches are not created equal. You have your lowly sandwiches like the Qdoba double torpedo tri-cycle whatever and then you have two solid, stick to your ribs sandwich places in Mike's and Seven Subs a block from one another. Mike's is your hot deli sandwich and Seven is your yummy, I can make this it home but it never tastes this way, sandwich. I'll go here often and always have a sandwich with layers of turkey or ham and slaw. So good. Also great to call ahead on the T and pick up as they only have a couple outdoor tables.. read more

My go-to sandwich shop in Coolidge Corner. I'm a fan of the BLAST (BLT with avocado and sprouts- YUM) sandwich and I love the soft wheat bread they use for it. It's nice and light when I'm not feeling a full on, heavy sandwich. I've had some make your owns, and some of the signature subs, and everything has been really satisfying. I like that they offer 2 sizes for each sandwich, and I might try a salad next time... the sandwiches are just so good that I always forget the salads. read more

I grew up in a city with an unusually large selection of sub sandwich shops (I have no idea why). When I moved to Boston, I was a little worried -- the only sub places I could find doubled as pizza places. Subs from pizza places are just never that exciting. They are always bland, and they always just seem like a crappy pizza on a sub roll. Needless to say, the lack of decent sub places made me even more homesick than I already was. Then I discovered Seven Subs. The subs here are exciting, different, and most important, they are delicious! Potato Salad, Roast Beef, and BBQ sauce? Yup, they have it. Turkey with coleslaw? Awesome. You are a less adventurous eater, you say? Never fear - they also have fairly standard subs. Best of all? This place is pretty cheap. Lunch for two is easily under 14 bucks. DELICIOUS! there are so many great sandwiches and salads on the menu! and the people who work there are super friendly! I pick up lunch here at least once a week after I am finished running errands. It is kind of like a mix between a neighborhood deli where the employees know the customers and a speedy sub shop where you have tons of options and you don't have to worry about waiting forever... sounds like a good combo to me! I especially love the Spicy Pepperjack Chicken Salad. delicious! Call ahead for a pick up order if you are getting it at peak lunch hour (they get pretty busy) and it is not exactly a stand around and wait kind of a place... side note: the menu talks about a secret pickle policy- it really is pretty anti climactic...i won't spoil it though, ask yourself.... ;) read more

Good place for a sub. Walked by it the first time, since we expected the entrance to be right on Beacon. This place has your standard cold and hot sub choices. Very friendly service. I got the Supreme Italian sub. The large wasn't as big as I expected it to be, but it was definitely satisfying. If I was really hungry, I would definitely need to have a side with it. The sub was about $6 and change, which is a pretty decent price for what you get. I forgot to request a pickle, which I was a little sad about later. :( All in all, a good option for a quick meal as long as the weather isn't awful (chances are you'll be waiting outside). I read the reviews on yelp, I've lived in and around the area and thought it would be a great place to try. To make a long story short the place was just a let down. 7.25 for a Chicken Caesar salad, you're thinking what I'm thinking, it better be a damn good salad. NOPE! The dressing we thought would be creamy was nothing but oil and grated cheese with dry chicken. It came in a taco bell style bowl and we found a crap load of water at the bottom. It felt like I was drinking water with oil instead of eating a salad. We also ordered 3 subs along with the salad to feed three people. Unlike previous posts of huge portions and leftovers we finished the subs in four bites and had no leftovers expect for the salad which was too disgusting to eat. We spent a lot of money on small portions and undesirable food. We had to order more food because the food was not filling for three full grown men. It was cheap and tasty. According to my friend Julie, the "Unforgiven" -- roast beef, potato salad, melted provolone cheese & BBQ sauce on a toasted sub, was "fucking delicious." I had a small Lucky 7, which upon unwrapping, looked too tiny to be filling. However, it was a good-sized sub and was very flavorful. Since I'm a Californian, though, I like plenty of vegetables in my sandwiches. The Lucky 7 was not one of these sandwiches... but I still liked it! Might try one of the regular sandwiches next time. Seven Subs is a cheap, wonderful deal for lunch in Coolidge Corner. Although the subs may look small, they're plenty filling. A large might be better if you'd like leftovers. read more

This place really disappointed me. After having walked past it so many times, I was pretty excited to try it out. What I got was a mediocre at best sandwich that I had to wait outside for 5-10 minutes to get. There's nowhere to wait inside, and even after the exercise of walking back home with the sandwiches, I still felt disgustingly unhealthy after the meal. Would not go back. Portions are generous, service is fast efficient and friendly. There are some chairs and tables for eating at next to the window. Why did I withhold a star? I wish they toasted the bread, and the cashier gave me the wrong change. Also, it would be awesome if they roasted their own turkey (thanksgiving style) instead of using the deli kind. read more

I am honestly not sure what all the hype is about here. The sandwiches taste no better than if I went to a grocery store, went to their packaged meat products, grabbed a lifeless hoagie roll and made it myself. While the prices are reasonable for a sub joint, the food you got was not. It was lifeless and dull. I did not enjoy it and was thoroughly disappointed. However, if there is a redeeming quality their potato salad and coleslaw was pretty good. read more

This place sucks. I have gone there several times now, so I can say I have given them a shot. None of their sandwiches are good, but some of them are really bad. The caesar wrap, in particular, is just heinous. It has a house-made dressing on it that is a failure and an embarrassment, and they need to either figure out how to make a proper caesar dressing or buy-in something decent.
