ONE FISH TWO FISH - SEVEN'S EVEN BETTER Finally after much revelry about this small privately owned locals place, we were able to get in with a last minutes 6:00 reservation (with 20 minutes notice). Our choices were 6 or 9 as a last minute Hail Mary call, and we slipped in. Once we arrived we were seated quickly. As others have indicated it is an incredibly tiny establishment with tables wedged about a foot apart along the sides. Service was quick but sporadic. It reminded me of the service of a late night dinner where if you didn't have a definitive decision, the waitress was off in a flash before you could ask a question. As the waitress's buzzed about from table-to-table, I then realized that there was only 2-3 people taking care of the entire place, most likely do to the limited space to squeeze around the tables. I'LL HAVE THE PINO NOIR DO - get the La Crema Pino Noir. Always a reliable and safe choice. DON'T - get the Chardonnay. Tried it. Hated it. The end. SOUND CHECK 101 As others have stated this place is so small the octave level is over the top. You can not help but speak with your neighbors or vice versa, so be prepared. MEATLOAF - GOOD FOR THE SOUL. We ordered two appetizers... a special spicy tuna sushi roll and a mixed fish ceviché salad. (see pics) DO - get the spicy tuna sushi roll. We would go back again just for that and a glass of wine. DO - get the crab cake appetizer. Our neighbors and a few other tables ordered it and they all raved. DON'T - get the ceviché. The interpretation of ceviche at this place was more like a cold fish salad (the usual little shrimp, white fish, etc.) on top of lettuce. It was more like a meal then an appetizer in size. But the most unfortunate part was this was not ceviché! This was a cold VERY BLAND fish salad. BOO! (see pic) Next up were the main courses. The standard meatloaf off the menu for my husband, and the $30 Grouper with coconut chutney on angel hair pasta for me. DO - After much adieu about the meatloaf in local circles... IT'S THE ONE REASON TO VISIT THIS PLACE! It has a brown gravy with homemade mash and veggies. A huge portion for any appetite. It was so delicious. (see pic) MANGO CHUTNEY - A DRESSING ONLY 'BUDDY THE ELF' COULD LOVE DON'T - get the Grouper or any other fish dish with the mango salsa unless you you have the high sugar pallet of our buddy 'ELF". This was terrible. Sweeter and more tart than pouring syrup on your pasta, this was down right nasty. I have to admit that I am a savory eater of preference to begin with, but heavens to murgatroyd, what were they thinking?? (see pic) (P.S., it was the favorite dish of the waitress. Go figure.) Although I only ate a few bites of my dish, I jumped over to my husbands plate and finished his meatloaf for him. What a trooper. Consequently, the couple next to us ordered the grouper with chutney as well and the woman passed her dish to her husband and finished his, haha. I wasn't the only one. The scuttlebutt is that this long time locals establishment is moving to a bigger and more efficient place. My best to Seven Fish on their future endeavors. Who knows, you just may see me in for an awesome meatloaf fix. SUMMARY Order off the menu. Don't spend the $30 on the specials. Not worth it. read more

Rating: 93/100 pts Whoa, what is this place doing here? Key West is a small island mostly swallowed up by tourism. I've visited enough times to know not to expect great food--the scenery more than makes up for that--which is why I was all the more surprised...or actually, astonished, to find this foodie oasis. Fresh seafood? Intimate atmosphere? Artisan preparation? Seasonal, rotating menu? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. It's almost as if the foodie deity came down herself and declared this a "non-tourist ripoff" zone. And it's not like you even have to go that out of your way. It's smack dab in the middle of the island--yes, a few blocks away from the main streets, but who cares. The island isn't that big to begin with, so enjoy the walk away from the Key West hustle and bustle, and step up to this small, quiet haven. Just make sure you make reservations. I got and shared the Crab Cake appetizer and Mixed Greens Salad, and as entrees the Thai Curry and Gnocchi, which both were cooked with fresh fish. Each dish that came out seemed to surpass the one before it. The Crab Cake was perfectly cooked and seasoned with ginger and garlic, without being too greasy. The salad used fresh greens and a powerfully tart yet light balsamic dressing. The bread was AMAZING. This is actually the best bread I've had in recent memory. It's most definitely freshly baked in-house, perfectly soft and moist in the middle and crisp on the outside, with wafty herbs baked in. I never expected to eat such memorable bread in Key West. Knowing that a lot of $$$ restaurants tend to favor quality over quantity when it comes to entrees, thus encouraging you to buy more sides (and spend more $$$), I preemptively filled up a bit on appetizers before my entrees came out. This was a mistake. The entrees were completely robust in their own right, without sacrificing the slightest shred of quality. The Thai Curry, more of a bistro dish, was tactfully executed, the curry being delicate yet delicious, without being too sweet or reliant on fat. The rice was amazingly fresh and pillowy. The fish (they cook it with whatever was freshly caught that day) was perfectly prepared. It also came cooked with enough fresh vegetables to keep your nutritionist satisfied. The same goes for the Gnocchi Plate--everything about it was exquisite. The gnocchi was extremely fresh and chewy, obviously having been freshly made in-house. And, with regard to both this and the Curry: FISH, FISH, FISH. They are NOT stingy with their fish. When I got my food, most of it was covered in sauce. I assumed most of the substance would be vegetables or gnocchi, but was surprised to find more and more and more delicious chunks of fish as I ate. Try as I might, having ordered 2 appetizers, the portions were so generous that I simply could not get through all the food. It was way too good to throw away, though, so I took it home and ate it the next morning--even though I had separate plans for breakfast. Quality + Quantity = prices are totally worth it. So good in every way. Sat at the bar with my beautiful girlfriend. Bartender Karl was exceptional! Knowledgeable and engaging. Guided us through the menu and provided several wine tasting to pair. I can't say enough. We got the tuna poke to start: perfect. Nicely marinated with the avocado addition. We had the signature Currie Red Snapper. Amazing. So to describe Karl's attentiveness, when I asked for some more (fresh baked, crusty bread), he asked if we wanted the crusty heel or the softer middle. Who does that? A small and delightful gem in Key West. My boyfriend and I came here on our last night in Key West for dinner. We made reservations at 8:30pm, came in a little early and was seated right away. The boyfriend and I both ordered the specials for the night. We started with an order of cerviche, which was so good with the fresh shrimps, scallops, and conch. It had the perfect amount of acidity. The boyfriend ordered the snapper with the thai curry sauce and I ordered the grouper with a sweet almond sauce on a bed of angel hair. Both dishes were delicious. I liked my boyfriend's dish a little more than mine, the thai curry sauce on top of the snapper was so good, I couldn't stop picking at his dish. My grouper could have used a little more sauce, but it was still very good. Seven Fish is a great seafood restaurant. Recommended to me by a good friend who used to live in Key West. This place does not disappoint at all! Fantastic vibe, small cozy atmosphere, off the beaten path, educated and friendly waitresses, fantastic wine selection, and the most delicious fish I've ever had in the Keys. I come to Seven Fish every single time I'm in Key West. I've even driven down from Bahia Honda for it whilst on a camping trip. Parking is a bit of an issue but walking around in KW is always nice. Call ahead for a reservation.. They are always packed! If you can't get one, take it to go! I recommended the gnocchi with blue cheese sauce and Mahi but everything I've ever had here is delicious! Definitely worth looking for . . . .and looking for is what you are going to do to find this place. From the outside? It looks like someone "remuddled" a remodeling project, for attached to an existing home is this white box . . looks like a cross between a liquor store and a Laundromat. But once you pull open the door- you find yourself in a quaint space with exposed rafters, minimal decoration but some of the best food you will probably find down in the Keys. We were seated promptly for our 9pm reservation. A cozy table for two among other two tops along the one wall. There are probably only 15 or so tables in the place so a reservation is a must and they will work to get you in. It's dark inside with the flickering candles not doing much to light the tables or the food or even the menu, for that matter, so I was happy that our server recited the fresh fish specials of the day. Know also that they also only serve beer and wine so don't expect some frothy drink! We started with the ceviche (this was just okay- I would have liked it to have more flavor but the scallops and shrimp were overpowered by the green peppers) But the pepper and goat cheese salad that came up next was delicious and then out came our entrees. I went with the signature snapper dish prepared with a light Thai curry cream sauce served over white rice which was just delicious. My friend had the grouper with a mango chutney served over angel hair pasta. Both dishes were quite good and the portion sizes were large enough that had we not been staying in a hotel- we would have had plenty to take home for another meal. And for dessert- try the brownie with ice cream and coconut flakes. Just the right amount of sweetness. The tables are close so know that you are going to be right in the midst of everyone's conversation. It worked out great for by the time we left- we knew the two couples surrounding us and got a number of other suggestions of places to eat at during our weekend in the Keys. If you drive, don't. Parking is a disaster anywhere in this area with the narrow streets and the resident parking. Take a cab or walk . .everyone will appreciate you more. And while this place may look like a "hole in the wall" know that dinner with wine will run you about $50 a person. New location was not as intimate as the old one but it was OK. Food was fine and service was good. When we were leaving, I was asked by the manager if there was a problem. We said no and she explained that we left only a 10% tip. I did not want to embarrass my guests so I told her to make it 20%. I actually left a 20% tip on the food total. I did not tip on the wine. Spicy Tuna Roll - just like the spicy tuna I would make at home too. Tasted freshly made, because it was warm kitchen temperature. 2. Warm Grouper Roll - I think this might be a tad bit more salty to others, but I always eat heavy taste so I am okay with it. Three years later and Seven Fish is still my favorite restaurant in Key West. When we came back to Key West, one of the first things we did was book a reservation since it is a small restaurant. We got a late 8:45 reservation on a Friday night which was nice because it was after the rush and things were slowing down. Service was excellent. Our waitress was helpful and attentive while not being overbearing. I was also impressed with the way the host/manager handled a loud unruly party. He was all class. The food is the star. Everything is exceptional. We started off with the ceviche which was great. For our main, I ordered the grouper of the day over pasta with vegetables and my husband ordered the scallops. The grouper was a thick filet with a mango chutney that was beautiful over fresh pasta. It was superb. The scallops with mashed potatoes and spinach was amazing. I love scallops and my husband and I traded dishes to share (it was in the vows). We were too full to get dessert but it looked lovely. We left feeling full and satisfied. I only wish they were open earlier for lunch so we could come back for one more meal before we left! read more

Friend had the grouper, over pasta with a mango chutney he loved. We decided the key lime cheesecake while good, was too much of two good things. Either cheesecake or key lime pie, not both. We had high hopes for this place since it was highly recommended to us by friends. First our server seemed oblivious of her surroundings and didn't even take our dinner order until we had been seated for 50 minutes.(we had reservations too). She also got our cocktail orders incorrect and would not replace them. Secondly, the food was average at best. The prices didn't reflect the quality we were expecting. The only highlight of the meal was the bread since it is made in house and was tasty. For two people our bill was $150. We found MUCH better food at half the cost with other local joints. I'm still on the high that is Seven Fish.. I made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, and I'm SO glad I did because this little space gets PACKED. I wanted to do something off the beaten path for the girl's birthday dinner, and they did NOT disappoint. The place is loud enough where you don't have to listen to anyone else's conversation as long as they're being equally polite, but you have about a foot of space in between tables. So don't be a dick when you come! We started with the sushi special. It was a crispy grouper roll with avocado. It came out SUPER fresh and we gobbled it up. She ordered the grilled mahi (and she HATES fishy fish, so this was a shocker), she ate nearly everything. I ordered the crab and mushroom pasta. It's gigantic and I basically ate all the meat and veggies and didn't make a dent it was SO big and delish!!! And can we talk about the rosemary bread??? Our chef overkills with rosemary all the time at work so I can't stand it anymore, but I figured I'd have a taste because we were on vacation, and OMGITSSOGOOOOD!!!! I asked our server what was the secret and she told me there was mashed potatoes in the dough? Amazing! We had the bananas flambe for dessert (delicious), and she brought them out with a candle for the girl to blow out. Happy wife, happy life! We decided to try this after reading some good reviews on yelp. When we first arrived, they checked our temperature with a body temp reader (because of COVID). Then, we were escorted to our table. The seating was all indoor. You don't have to wear a mask at your table, but one must be worn when not seated at the table. We ordered the grouper sushi as an appetizer. I LOVED it! (It comes with 5 rolls, I just ate two before it came out). It was super hot and fresh. I ordered the Tuna and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp scampi. The tuna was pretty good but I wasn't as big of a fan of the pasta. It was good, I just don't really like goat cheese, so next time I would order it without. I had a little bit of the asparagus from my boyfriend's meal which was delicious. Also, the meals came with homemade bread which was delicious and not like something I've had before. Fabulous and fresh seafood! Personable and friendly service! Memorable and wonderful experience. Eric at the bar was attentive as our server and bartender. Makes a great gin and tonic and has full command of his bar. The food that came out of the kitchen was tasty and well prepared. My husband and I started with the shrimp and red cabbage slaw and the mushroom and Brie quesadilla. Both were delicious and the perfect way to start our meal. I had the fish feast for one and my husband had the shrimp scampi with asparagus and angel hair pasta. Both dishes were amazing - the fish was fresh and the portions were perfect (we were hungry!!). I resolved to eat as much seafood as possible during our 4 days in Key West, and I don't think I ate a single piece of protein that lived on land during our stay. Seven Fish was a great pick for this endeavor. Seafood dominated the menu, but was far from the only thing on the menu. This place is a few streets off the main drag, and not a place you would stumble across in your daily walk up and down Duval. It looks like it was a corner package store or maybe a lunch counter; it doesn't look like a new spot and our server informed me Seven Fish had been in that location for something like 14 years. Decor was nice; some local art hung on the walls, but the furniture was basic, sort of castaway chic. It's a small place, but we wandered in early without a reservation. I had one of the specials: snapper pan friend with smashed cloves of garlic in a spicy Thai curry and cream sauce. This was a few weeks ago, and as I think about it, that meal still makes me salivate. My wife had the crabcakes, which were also excellent. We split a bottle of carbernet sauvignon which nicely topped off the meal. Service was friendly and down to earth. If I return to Key West, I will most definitely, 100% eat here again...at least once. read more

The food was generally good but not great. My husband and I both had specials of the day. His was shrimp and scallops with pasta, vegetables and a cream sauce. I had the house special of snapper in a thai cream sauce. In both cases the vegetables were a big miss. Broccoli and carrots that were all really over cooked. The broccoli was almost a mush. It was the best meal I have ever had in Key West. Maybe anywhere. We started with spicy tuna rolls. So delicious. For entrees, I had the Thai Curry Yellowtail Snapper and my husband had the swordfish special. They were both incredible. Melt in your mouth, moan out loud good. Close your eyes good. We finished with the strawberry pie. This was a seriously epic dinner. The service was fantastic, the ambience was perfect, and have I mentioned the food?
