This past weekend I had a very disheartening experience with Mission Taco in Soulard. This is a place my friends and I visit often in groups, as couples, take out, etc. but this particular time has turned me off to Mission. It started when a bartender named Eva judged our group before giving us a chance. My friends and I (About 10 of us) were out celebrating a friend's birthday. We were told our wait was 45 min - an hour long and we understood (Most of us work in the bar/restaurant industry or have worked in the industry). So we took our talents to 5 empty bar tables and attempted to make a home there. Again, though it was 10 of us, we were extremely patient and understanding. We gave Eva time to serve her bar as we waited. Half of us ordered drinks and tacos and everything was fine until a friend overheard Eva say to the other bartender, after avoiding us "Do not serve them, the guy in the jersey did not tip". The guy in the jersey just so happen to be my boyfriend and he paid for 1 drink in cash. She did not realize that I still had a tab open (the tab we would use for the rest of the evening and tip her out on). So we figured we would talk to her to clear up the confusion. After she avoided us for a while, he finally asked for something else and she says "are you going to tip this time". That shocked all of us and another friend attempted to clear up what we over heard and Eva confirmed that she did indeed refuse us service because of what "the guy in the jersey" had done. We were just all confused because as I mentioned we are a group of generous tippers and very understanding. Then after asking for the other bartender to help us, since she clearly did not want to she was very sarcastic and rude saying "you guys are stuck with me for the rest of the night". Mind you, Eva barely had to serve us. She took our order, made a few watered down drinks (which she did not measure) and the food runners did everything from bring us silver wear to serve us our food, to ask us what else we needed. What surprised me personally was how confident she was in her actions as if this is accepted or allowed by the restaurant. In my years of working in a restaurant, I was told you are NEVER allowed to refuse service based off something like that and you must treat every guest equally and fair. And the fact, half our group still had open tabs but she still avoided helping us, was extremely disappointing. We all are very kind people and came to have fun and even after that, we were calm with her and tried to talk things out with her but of course she didnt care. She judged us and mistreated us and its disgusting because people like Eva ruin local places like Mission and give them a bad name. And though, it may not seem like a big deal to some, it really changed our views and opinions. read more
