It was my first time going to this place with my family and I'm so disappointed with their food, I ordered the grilled Chicken burrito (south Beach), it was the worse burrito; my kid had chicken tender and she could not finish it, it was very insipid, no taste, my husband's fish tacos was super salty and not good, even their cheese quesadilla was bad. Probably the worst food in soulard and all of Saint Louis. Our food was so terrible we hardly touched it. Rather than our waiter asking how our meal was, he only asked if we wanted boxes to go. Clearly there's a problem if you have two full plates of food and your customer is asking for the check right away. He never asked how our meal was. First time here and it had some ups and some downs. I'm a self-proclaimed Mexican-food connoisseur and love street tacos so I was told to check this place out. The chips and guacamole were some of the best I've ever had and that includes places in Mexico. Great avocado base with pico and shredded cheese on top. 9/10 2 salsas - one kind of smoky and mild-had better flavor than the "spicy" salsa which wasn't very hot at all. Nothing special about either but decent and the chips have such a great yield and saltiness that we went through both salsas. 6/10 I tried two of the street tacos which are small but filled high with various meets, toppings, and sauces. I had the chicken which was delicious with a BBQ base and mango topping and the carne asada which had impressive cuts of flank steak. Only problem was that they only offered corn tortillas which ruined the taste for me. I'm not sure why they don't offer flour as an option but these tacos are probably very good if u enjoy corn tortillas. 6/10....would b an 8/10 if flour. Atmosphere is lively and enjoyably open-air with a couple bar TVs to catch the Cards game. 8/10. Service 9/10. Hostess and waitress were friendly and helpful and even got a couple hellos from support staff. Overall 7/10 or 3.5 stars which isn't an option here. read more

A very good taco joint. Tacos for about $4 or less and of more variety than your typical chicken or steak. The duck taco was awesome as was the street corn side. The shrimp and chorizo looked great but were typical of many other higher class taco joints. The beer list was a little disappointing as I find these types of taco shops usually pride themselves on serving great drafts. But anyways, they had some beer cocktails available as well and also a few more menu offerings that looked interesting like the burritos and tostados. Trying to support our local restaurants, we placed an order for take-out from Mission Taco in Soulard even though we live in West County. After driving all the way down there and home again, we discovered that two items were left out of our order (tortillas and guacamole). Hard to make tacos for four without tortillas. My first time trying it was alright. I had three tacos the fried, mango habanero, and shredded something with shrimp or something on it. I like the entire fried chicken taco and just the shrimp from the other but the mango one didn't sit too well. All of those were from the favorites or suggested list all on the left side of the menu. The service was great the host was kind and greeted me as soon as I walked in and the waiter didn't complain about the drink return he also gave his honest opinion on the menu. They went above and beyond the call of duty to fix an error that occurred during my latest visit this weekend and I have nothing but good things to say about this location - Before and after this visit. First time eating here for lunch today. We ordered the guacamole and shared a few tacos. The guacamole was good but they don't give you a lot for $7. Tacos were also good. Didn't blow me away. My favorite was the shrimp taco, but next time I would try to the duck or brisket taco. I only wish the tacos had 2 corn tortillas to hold everything together. Ordered a burrito - the "New Year's Resolution" - and it came covered in oil. It doesn't say this as an ingredient on the menu, so I was a little irritated. I hate giving bad reviews, but this place charged me for the burrito when I only ate 3 bites of it, and requested something different. My husband and I went around 2p on a Friday; the tables were about a quarter full, just a couple people at the bar. We got service right away from a friendly enough server; there was also an obvious beginner clearing a table next to us who was making a bit of a racket and dropping things, including a glass that luckily didn't break. My husband got the Milanese torta and I got the Ahgado torta (which is described as being "smothered in chile ancho sauce"). Our server specifically said, "Do you want those with the fries...?" We both wanted the fries and said so. Our food arrived alarmingly fast, brought by the beginner rather than our regular server. I saw our tortas and two bowls of cilantro rice on her tray, which she started to put down. I told her that we ordered fries and she said, "I thought it said rice." I assured her that I hate cilantro and would not have ordered rice as she walked away without an apology. I also noticed there were no knives in the collection of silverware on the table. I ordered a sandwich that was smothered in sauce so it was not something that could be eaten with my hands. I tried unsuccessfully to eat it with a fork alone and then asked for a knife which was greeted with a slightly annoyed face. WTF? In the meantime, the fries arrived, way too quickly to have been made fresh. They weren't exactly cold, but they were NOT hot and they were most definitely not made to order and had obviously been sitting for a while which was very, very disappointing. The server then brought me a huge knife, some sort of Texas steakhouse monstrosity, presented on a cocktail napkin like I had asked for something extraordinary (a regular table knife would have been sufficient). My torta was just okay. The meat was underseasoned, the beans were barely existent, and the chihuahua cheese appeared to have been melted on the sandwich some time previous to me actually ordering it. The smothering sauce was surprisingly bland. None of it was particularly hot (as in heated, not spice, though there wasn't much spice either). Our server was perfectly friendly and the service was fine, though the knife presentation was weird. All the blame here goes to the kitchen. I do not appreciate being served old food and that is the only explanation I have for what we received. We've had much better food at the Delmar location and we probably won't go back here. read more

They charged me full price after 10pm which is supposed to be 2$ and being my first time I didn't notice till after I left and saw it on their website. So happy to finally get to try MTJ! We came for my birthday weekend because I was craving fish tacos, and after some research this seemed to be the place to be. We arrived at 1pm on a Saturday and much to our surprise we were seated immediately, yay! Our server Sam was awesome! So friendly and refilled our drinks and checked on us through our whole meal. We started off with the Carne Asada fries. There was plenty for our table of 3, we even brought a few home. They were piled high with seasoned fries, huge dollops of Pico DE Gallo and avocado, plenty of cheese and huge junks of the Carne Asada meat. Then came the tacos, we ordered a variety. My favorite was the shrimp with the delicious fresh mango salsa followed by the grilled fish taco. They definitely don't skimp on the size of the fish in these tacos which is much appreciated. The hubby thought his Taco of the month, the Pollo AL pastor was the best of the bunch, it had the most flavor he said. He also like the chorizo, but it was pretty greasy (chorizo problems:)). The beef brisket was alright, but he said he would have preferred a little more kick to that particular one. We also got an order of the street corn. OH. MY GOSH. Please do not forget to order yourself a bowl of this corn. The grilled corn with the mixture of mayo and cheese and seasonings cannot be beat. I seriously could have eaten the whole bowl by myself. Finally we had an order of the churros for dessert. An order is 3 churros and a bowl of melty, oozy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce. The churros I thought were a tad doughy on the inside, but the chocolate sauce was divine. Would have loved to mix the leftovers in a tall glass of milk. Yum! Definitely like the vibe of MTJ, very hip neighborhood and very cool interior and exterior. We sat by the big, glass garage door. They have a large bar and plenty of seating, none outside that I could see.ind you it was 95° and I wouldn't want to be outside anyways! The prices were definitely reasonable for the quality of food. This place has great service, amazing atmosphere and good food! My family and I came here for our weekly dinner outing and we tried a lot of things! We had queso and chips and street corn to start! I've had better queso at other places, there really wasn't much flavor to it. The street corn was fantastic! We then tried one of every single taco! My parents favorite was the fish taco, the fried fish taco. My boyfriends favorite was the grilled fish taco and the chorizo taco! My favorite was the portabella mushroom taco! The tacos are filled with flavor and each one is totally different, you would never expect to have tacos like this! The meat on the tacos was all very well prepared and the toppings on each taco was different and very well thought out! Perfection in the tacos! Then we had the homemade churros for dessert, I love churros and was expecting something amazing, and was very disappointed. My suggestion would be try a little bit of everything!
