Absolutely love this place and any location. Have got almost every taco and also tried the three little pigs burrito. I would recommend always getting the chips and salsa. Of the tacos the mango habanero chicken and the shrimp are my two favorites. I would stay away from the carne Asada as it is more blan compared to the others. Three little pigs burrito is massive and really good as well. The drinks are good for the price. Overall a good deal, great food and a fun atmosphere. read more

If I could give it ten stars I would! Mission Taco is a staple for me every time I visit St Louis. The casual, laid back atmosphere is always exactly what I'm looking for after a long day at work and you can't beat the prices for the value. My hands down favorite are the mango shrimp tacos (seriously, I dream about them) paired with a big bowl of guacamole and one of their many margarita selections. Definitely worth visiting! read more

Normally when you go to a restaurant within the first few days of opening, you would expect to have some flaws, issues however that was not the case with Mission Taco Joint. we went around 730 and when we got in the place was packed. a good sign for a restaurant that had just opened. We were talking with some fellow Yelpers getting their opinion on the place and food and was somewhat disappointed to find out it really didn't meet their expectations, however I still was going to get my share of tasting in, so I could form my own opinions and conclusions. after about a 20 minute wait we were seated and the server greeted us extremely promptly which was more than satisfactory in my book. I ordered a Cowboy Burrito, and when It arrived I was very pleasantly surprised with the size of the meal, leaving me only to hope it was going to be just as tasty. I sliced into the burrito, very tender and loaded with filling, beef brisket, cilantro rice, black beans all worked together to form a delightfully filling meal. We ordered some chips and salsa in which they bring you 2 different kinds of awesome home made salsa, I still haven't really figured out which one is better, but none the less I need to highly recommend them. throughout the meal, the owners had come by a few times to see how things were, and we were happy to express our gratitude. I see only good things for this place, and look forward to my next visit. there are many things on the menu to try, and this summer will be the best time for sampling.. Do yourself a flavor and check out the Mission taco joint, you will be extremely satisfied and glad that you did. read more

So I rolled in here for some takeout tacos after a show at the Pageant. The little takeout counter is very cute and the woman working was super nice. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. Have you seen that website where they show the advertised fast food photo next to the real thing? The beautiful hamburger with glistening lettuce and tomatoes on the perfect bun compared to the sideways smashed road kill looking burger with random sauces oozing out? It was kind of like that. When I opened my box, all the toppings had fallen off and were in a little jumbled piles. I tried to resurrect my tacos using online descriptions. But sadly, my tacos were a mere shell (pun intended) of the ones promised in the menu. I ordered the grilled fish taco and the duck taco. Per the menu, the fish taco is supposed to come with fish, sauce, cabbage, pico de gallo, and queso fresco. I got fish (thank God for that), about 3 shreds of cabbage and maybe a quarter of a cherry tomato. My sauce was ordered on the side. No queso to speak of. It was basically a sad little piece of fish all alone in a tortilla. The duck taco is supposed to have duck, pork belly, avocado, and sauce. This one fared slightly better, but still no avocado. I'm not 100% sure about the pork belly either, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. Looking at even the Yelp photos of beautiful tacos in the cute little taco holder made me feel even worse. I'll have to try dining in next time. Yeah, so I ordered takeout and didn't check my food. Rookie mistake. But, I gave Mission more credit than that. read more

I was warned that Mission Taco wasn't fantastic but that was the one in Soulard. I figured I'd try the loop location...about that. So the ambiance is very chill. I took my kids. First off, this isn't a kid eating type place. Only one wanted something and the other two ending up only eating chips and queso. Which was the typical tasting salsa and queso one could make at home. So the tacos...The carne asada tasted like burnt grill. The duck wasn't anything special, just very sweet. The pork belly wasn't too bad and the shrimp may have been the only one I truly liked. I ordered the flautas for the other kids thinking can't go wrong with chicken but they didn't touch it. The sauce was gross and exceptionally sweet too. I know that this is a modern spin on Mexican street tacos, but this isn't my favorite place for street tacos. By the way it can be pricey here too. On another note the bartenders were making some really delicious looking drinks perhaps that's why people come in. read more

Myreview is a bit late. I know. I did like the wide open space of the place. being a BBW, i never felt cramped. our group grabbed a 6 seater bar table and shared almost everything. I do wish that they gave you a bit more quacamole for the table. It was barely enough for me. I held back. I enjoyed the queso dip very much. ooh...I did like the quacamole. moving on...... I got a chicken burrito, a brisket taco, and a duck taco. I loved the tacos in the corn tortillas. I really really loved the brisket. The duck was close to it but it is served with goat cheese and I am not a fan of goats, much less cheese made from goats. I don't care what Giada says. the burrito was good. It is served with a healthy douse of guacamole, but really it tasted like I could have got it from Qdoba. overall, I will be back! there are other things to try, although the menu is relatively small. read more

The food is ok. It's nothing to write home about. However, the service takes forever - we waited almost one hour for the food. The waiters are your regular hipsters with little customer service experience. Won't be back. read more

Two tries, two fails. I'd heard rave reviews for Mission Taco ever since it opened. I went in for my first visit with the bar set high, but MT spectacularly failed. My cocktails were good and the guacamole was stellar -- some of the best I've had in StL. But my tacos (4 different kinds) all had soggy, flavorless meat. The only thing keeping their tacos from being complete failures was the excellent guacamole they mercifully slathered on. Wanting to think my bad experience was an outlier, I gave MT another shot. Same exact experience: awful, soggy tacos with incredible guacamole. After hating the restaurant twice, my ears became more attuned to negative reviews of the restaurant -- people with the same experience as me. Avoid Mission Taco. read more

Probably some of the best guacamole I've ever had! I usually judge a Mexican joint on their guac, margaritas, and chimichangas. Since Mission doesn't offer chimi's, the remaining 2 out of 3 get a near perfect rating! Their margaritas are handmade and shaken, not stirred, and quite delicious. The fish tacos are probably my fave as well as the big ol burrito I had. The first time I went here, we were told about a 25 minute wait. An hour later, we still had no table. The only thing that kept us there were the margaritas. Unfortunately, we had a show to catch at the Pageant, so we were unable to even have dinner there. The margaritas are on the expensive side, but eating actual food would have made me feel better about that. The second time we visited, the wait was a little more realistic and as I mentioned above, the food was great. I also like that they were playing indie music in the background while we were there. Nice touch! read more

If you want a wild choice of non-traditional taco and Mexi-inspired flavor, this is your place. The beef brisket taco and roast duck taco are my favorites. They are served in house-made soft corn shells and are overflowing with the very best ingredients. The chips are served with two house-made salsas and I have never had the same two in a row. Stick around for the churros. They may look frightening, but they make up for it when their cinnamony sweet is dipped in the warm chocolate sauce. The mixologists are artisans of their trade. My lady says to mention the cherry lime mojito. It made her happy. This is probably not for the kids, but it's perfect for date night or even lunch with friends. read more

Favorite place to eat in town. Can't go wrong with the shrimp, fish or portobello tacos. Chips and salsa and guacamole are all excellent as well. If possible, reserve a table in advance... they get pretty busy read more

Do you like Portobello mushrooms? Get the Portobello taco. Actually, get 3 of those tasty bastards. You'll love 'em. This is easily my 3rd or 4th visit and I've enjoyed each one. We went to Mission Tacos about a week ago. I've been neglecting my Yelping! Good food with some great choices to try. We had chips and salsa with a variety of tacos: roasted duck, carne asada, yucatan chicken and my favorite- fish tacos. All were good but none were incredible. I was a bit disappointed with the carne asada and the fish tacos. I have to say I lived go ten years in San Diego so I know a good taco. The fish taco was ok but missing a good sauce. The atmosphere and service were great. I suggest trying it for yourself. I will definitely give it a second shot but only after having a Seoul Taco again. read more

I agree with the overall 4 star rating. Great location on the loop and cool ambience in side. I liked the bar and table arrangements, particularly in the front of the restaurant. There were also some well placed tables to stand while waiting for folks. We ordered the Carne Asada fries which we're amazing: guac, flank steak, cheese and fries. The tacos were good and had unique combination of flavors, but I've had better. The duck taco was just a bit too spicy for me to enjoy fully, even though I have a decent tolerance for spice. The chicken taco was very good. Very affordable, will likely be back. read more

It's hard to find good Mexican grub in the STL. Came here for a date night on a random Tuesday night and the place was packed! If you've got the NoWait app, this would be the time to use it. It's filled with college students and gets pretty loud, but we didn't seem to mind. Communal seating may be encouraged... The drinks were okay. Bartenders like to make a big show of their mixing, but my cocktail was a bit heavy on the bitters. The food was also delicious. Definitely going back! read more

Being from the southwest, I get a tad sceptical on reviews of great Mexican food in other parts of the country. However our visit was so great- we ended up going back again a second time in our business trip (aided by the fact the kitchen stayed Open late). It was packed, and there was a wait- so we sidled up to the bar for a cocktail. Hi lights: sweet corn (shucked) and corn fritters (like hush puppies) Guacamole was tasty and empanadas were also delicious (I don't want to see the calorie count on these). Tacos were the star: - chorizo- made in house- holy smokes it was spicy! Five stars. - duck tacos- delicious - brisket tacos- flavourful Atmosphere: we were so thankful that the kitchen was open late- after landing from the airport late. It helped us make this grand discovery. Great place to check out! read more

I came in expecting a lot and came out kind of disappointed. There was limited options on the menu, and not a kid friendly atmosphere or food. $3+ for one small taco definitely wasn't worth it. I do not recommend. read more

Although my husband and I are regulars at the Delmar location, we have also been to the Soulard restaurant as well. Food is consistently tasty and I particularly enjoy the South Beach burrito and their flautas. My hubby really likes their tacos (especially the chorizo). The guacamole is very good as is the street corn and refried black beans. My daughter had a disappointing chicken quesadilla once - it lacked flavor and was very dry but, as it is an anomaly, we wouldn't let that keep us from returning. Service has always been friendly and reliable, however, we were dismayed tonight when some of our family members coincidentally and unexpectedly walked in after we were seated and had already ordered; we invited them to join our table and a short time later, as we requested our bill, we were informed that they won't split checks. We were originally three people at a six top who had two additional people sit with us last minute with separate orders staggered from ours. The fact that Mission Taco can't accommodate a split check because "every table is one" was off putting. That aside, if you haven't been, I highly recommend it - - just be prepared for a combined check among a group. read more

All ways nice w so many options! Friendly staff and wonderful brews! And they have ginger beer!

I would consider myself a regular at Mission, I take all of my out of town friends here, and thoroughly enjoy their food and drinks. However, that does not mean it deserves 5 stars. In the many times I have visited Mission, I have noticed a distinct difference between table service and bar service. Joel and his staff at the bar are hospitable, knowledgeable and quick (though Joel is a Cubs fan and Jorge is kind of a douche). The three or so times I sat at a table, the servers seemed like they worked for a totally different restaurant. Scatter brained, overly-friendly, inexperienced, etc. My lesson is no matter how busy, muscle your way to the bar and skip on the table service until they get their service staff in order. read more

Finally went back for a 2nd visit and glad that I did. This time around the overall experience was much more enjoyable. The staff was friendly, was greeted right away and our waitress was very personable. Went for a quick nosh, prior to catching a movie and the Chase. I highly recommend the fish taco (fried). It's my favorite by far and delicious to the last nibble. read more

I was sad to see one of my favorite divey alternative bars in St. Louis go away (RIP, Delmar Lounge!), but I was happy to see something unique and tasty take its place. Service was fast, and the food comes out very quickly. the tacos are only barely overpriced (by maybe $1), but are all quite tasty. I had the duck, brisket, pork, and cactus tacos - all were better than average, but I especially liked the pork and cactus. the tacos are messy but well-constructed. If you like a new spin on the classic real Mexican taco, you'll like this. Personally, the tacos left me wanting just a little less stuff in them and stronger flavors. Also, I think their guacamole is way overpriced. The bar area itself is a bit upscale for the location, but the bartenders are pros and know what they are doing. I wouldn't order a specialty cocktail there, but I would order a normal drink. It can be a bit packed, but people tend to move in and out quickly, and you won't be waiting for long. all in all, I enjoyed my experience here and would for sure go again. read more

I normally love this place but I am currently receiving the worst service ever here. Everyone has been rude to me and my friend to the point where we don't even want the food. I've been here a few times and had nothing but good experiences. Maybe it's the late night crew, but they are treating this like I'm an asshole for wanting to come here. I'm waiting on tacos because we heard sour the late night taco specials. Honestly I don't even like the tacos here but for $2 we said why not. At this point I wish we would have went to Jimmy Johns. Wtf?!?! Gary saved you guys. He was amazingly nice and what a real server should be. He deserves our tip (pause) more than the bartender who was extremely rude. read more

I love this place. I was skeptical the first visit though, because it was pretty much packed shoulder to shoulder with people waiting for a table. I had a drink in my hand within 2 minutes of entering the place, despite the crowd - the bar service is amazing. We were seated quicker than we thought, ordered a TON of food for a VERY reasonable price, and wow. just wow. side note, I feel like this is one of those places you're safe to take your server's recommendation on what to order if you're unsure - I've never been disappointed. Highly recommend! (especially at happy hour) read more

1st visit since opening week, and their debacle of a bar (drink/margarita recipes and prep poorly researched/executed). New hires and changed recipes/prep showed great improvement. This time the margarita (they only offer one) was better: not bland/flavorless, but good sweet/acid balance, fresh hand crafted flavor. (Hopefully, the variety of Mission's margarita/tequila selections increases in the future.) Careful sitting at the bar nearest the kitchen door. This is drink/marg prep area, and they have a annoying habit of banging the bartop with EACH shaker. Fish tacos were tasty... Good print through of the genuine smoke flavor..make sure to get 'em grilled, not fried. Brisket taco was veery tender, but the meat itself lacked any real seasoning, relying instead on an overly spicy "arbol" (translate "tree") sauce, that is sizeably over any reasonable scoville reading. Recommend getting it on the side, and adding salt, at the very least. Street corn lived up to some of the pomp heard here, but relies heavily on mayonnaise for its flavor, with little acid balance, and a scant portion of bland cheese. Again, recommend lime, and ask for (extra) chihuahua queso on the side. Finally, here's another testament to the importance of ambience attracting all the gathering. The Tilford's have this part solidly down, as this little niche taco oasis evolves. Just notice the virtually empty, Chipotle Grill, QDoba and El Maguey that you pass on your way to scrounge a parking spot. read more

While I am still on the hunt for authentic Mexican food in St. Louis, this one has come closest to the mark. The flavors are there with corn tortillas and fresh ingredients. However, if you are trying to make a meal you have to piece the items together. The cost for just one item is enough for a single meal! So, it leaves either my wallet or my stomach feeling a little empty depending on which way I go. I first went there for lunch during the work week. It was crowded! However, service was very prompt and attentive. Our group was able to find a highboy table as we walked in, and the others were leaving. Talk about good timing! Now that the school year is back in full swing at Washington University in St. Louis, I expect it to be hectic! read more

Met up with a couple friends for dinner at 7 on a Thursday. It was a lively night but looked like there was a good handful of open tables, so i thought cool, we'll get seated right away. I even checked in using the Yelp wait-list which showed a dashed line for # of parties ahead of us, and thought that met none. Waited at least 20min before getting seated. However, the app did say there was 15-20min wait time.. I'm wondering if I would have gotten seated earlier had I not mentioned I checked in using the Yelp app? Watched walk-ins (I could be wrong?) seated before me..so, not sure I get that. Anyway, nbd..ordered the following tacos: BBQ Duck - a little on the dry side, could use more flavor Chorizo - dry, has a hint of aroma reminescent of BO Shrimp - best flavor, especially with the mayo-based (?) sauce they use. However shrimp is not fresh, tasted like they were microwaved frozen I'm certainly not impressed, but would be willing to give them another try by branching out taco flavors, trying a non-taco selection, and then maybe the shrimp taco again - perhaps the shrimp quality was on an off night? Service was OK. We told or server we were still waiting on a 3rd person but we later ended up getting that person's order. So, when we were ready to order we couldn't get the server's attention bc she would never give us eye contact - I guess she figured as long as she didn't see a 3rd body she didn't need to pay us any attention. However, when our friend finally arrived, the server did come by shortly after. Oh, and women's bathroom is TINY! read more

I guess it's pretty good for the STL taco scene, and if you have never had other GOOD tacos before to compare it to. For me, I've had much better in LA and in New Orleans (shout out to the Rum House!). Overall, the tacos were dry and lacked juiciness. I've tried the pork shoulder, duck and pork belly tacos and they all tasted similar- just OK. The rice and the street corn were actually the best dishes in my meal. The torta was actually pretty decent, but my fries were stale and hard (like it was sitting around for awhile). If I am in the neighborhood I'd come eat again, but nothing to drool over. read more

Mission Taco + Happy Hour + $2 Tacos = a damn delicious night. Some tacos definitely have nights when they shine. When the portobello mushroom taco is perfectly balanced or the duck taco achieves spice nirvana, they're my favorite. And the fried fish is always as good as the others say it is. Even when I finally decided to try the tofu taco, it was good. The chorizo taco is a little spicy for me. The taco of the month is always interesting, but my favorite was definitely their Pho-inspired taco from a couple months ago. Bring it back!! I recommend eating close to the table with a fresh napkin nearby because these things are juicy! The chips and salsa are great, but I personally love saving some room for an extra taco or two! read more

The food here is amazing. Fries for an app are a must. You probably can't go wrong with most of the menu but be sure to try the street corn; I've never had anything like it (even in the years I lived in Mexico). It was delicious. The ambiance is okay...a little loud and crowded for my taste. Parking is a headache. The drinks are strong (crazy strong) but the prices are very reasonable. A small complaint that they brought out our tacos on one big platter so we didn't know who had what and that was just lame. Maybe after that margarita it was my fault I couldn't remember my order. :) read more

Wow! I'm from out of town of course. I love this place! Bar tenders are awesome mixologists! I noted they had a rare to find ingredient called falernum which is an ingredient in my favorite tiki drink called Corn n Oil. He mixed it awesome!! I get to experience a drink I always loved but no one could make for me! I ate the tacos and the flautas... They were great. They use a thin corn tortilla which is great if you are watching calories, but I don't need to, so I would recommend asking to double up on those. Thanks for the great experience mission taco!!!! read more

Session Taco - Delmar Loop - Cocktail Bars Near Me - St. Louis, Missouri

This place gets its hype for all the right reasons. Best tacos I've had in a very long time. We got the chicken al pastor, Baja fish, shrimp, and brisket/pork belly tacos and two cocktails. We also tried the chips and salsa which were bomb! Tortillas and chips made fresh on site. Extremely friendly bar staff, fun decor, and STRONG drinks. My only "complaint" is that 4 tacos and 2 cocktails cost us almost $40 which I feel is a little steep. This would definitely not stop me from returning. read more

Mission Taco is a super hot taco joint on the loop that perfectly satisfies cravings every time. Although you may need to wait for a seat during peak dinner-time hours, Mission has a great bar stocked with Tequila galore to tide you over, as well as a convenient take-out window next to the restaurant. I've had far too many late-nights chowing down on their perfectly salted house corn tortilla chips and daily salsas, but never too many to keep me from going back to Mission Taco for more. My Hotlist: - Carne asada fries: You're doing it wrong if you don't get this. Perfectly crisp, zesty house-made French fries smothered with bubbling melted cheese, salsa, guacamole, and tender slices of carne asada. My only problem is that they disappear too quickly. You can't go wrong with these fries! - Street corn: Shucked sweet corn off the cob melds with zesty cheese harmoniously. You gotta get this side. - Fried fish taco: Out of all the tacos that I have tried here (and I've tried most), this is by far my favorite. A satisfying classic. - Chicken flautas: Great to share or scarf down by yourself. Can't go wrong with these crispy bites. Mission Taco Joint is an awesome spot to grab margaritas with friends and will satisfy that ever-present Mexican craving. read more

A great taco joint and great margaritas! We dined here on a beautiful 75 degree day, and while we couldn't get a outdoor seat, we were seated fairly quickly.
