I've been going to this location for years, I absolutely love this restaurant, it was a delightful surprise to see the menu redesigned and I'm not sure how long Mexican street corn been on the menu but I ordered it along with the Grandes (crispy ground beef tacos) for the first time and it was amazing! My wife ordered the tortilla soup without the corn strips and asked if she could have something other than chips to dip in the queso, the wait staff quickly brought some celery, thank you Laurie our server and John I think was the manager we spoke with. As always we another healthy and satisfying meal here. The restaurant now uses yelp to seat patrons and it worked flawlessly! The lunch rush was in full swing but we were seated rapidly and our order came out fast and hot! read more

Walked out. Waited 15 minutes for a waiter or waitress never even got a glass of water. Saw many members of the wait staff standing around. Place was not busy so I was quickly seated and I did get chips and salsa so I guess that was a plus. I did not eat a chip so I didn't feel the need to pay for them. But the good is the table next to me did have three different members of the staff waiting on them. I tried to flag them but I was given a look by one as if I was spitting on his mother for doing so. I have eaten at other locations for Serrano's and the food I have had were very good so I can assume its the same with this location but I cannot confirm that. read more

I'm giving this place an extra star because of all the free margaritas I drank on them while they were waiting on their liquor license. Otherwise, it'd be a two at best. That second star is probably a result of my highly intoxicated state while eating which would make any food on this planet taste good. I usually just go for the queso, but the margaritas had gone to my head and I ordered the Tacos Tulum, a Serrano's 'Special' that boasted 'tender pork' on the menu. Not the case, it was tougher than raw hyde and bordering on flavorless. The queso perfecto is solid, though. Greasy taco meat and a scoop of guac could qualify this appetizer as a meal all on it's own. The service has always been great here, though. If there was a review page for Service at Serrano's, I'd definitely post a fiver. read more

Last night my hubby and I were talking about how our usual go-to mexican restaurants have been disappointing lately. Just not really hitting the spot. With that said I haven't been to Serrano's in about a year so we decided to check it out again. Our waiter was fabulous, if a bit awkward. He kept pausing weirdly like he recognized us or wanted to say something but never did. It wasn't a bad thing it just made us laugh. And the expeditor was new apparently. He hit my arm with the tray and then threw our plates on the table and wandered off. We were in a good mood so this also made us laugh pretty hard, but not good service. The queso was really good and they kept the chips coming. My husband enjoyed his combo plate. I had the bandera enchilada plate. It was good. The beef one was great, the other two just okay. The rice really had no flavor. One thing that bugs me to no end is they charge you extra for tortilla's, even when you get the fajitas. I get charging you extra for random tortilla's you just want for no reason, but you have to have a couple tortilla's with your fajitas for Christ's sake! All in all, there service is great, prices are reasonable and the food is OK. They're always nice to my kid and never act annoyed, that means a lot to us. read more

Came here with the wife after for lunch. This will most definitely become a regular joint of ours! I had the BBQ brisket enchiladas and added a cheese enchilada on the side. They were fantastic, the sauce on the BBQ ones was fabulous! Sweet and spicy! Just the right amount of kick. My wife ordered the fish tacos and loved them. I tried a bite and had to agree! Some of the best I have tried! The prices were fair and the service was nice and on top of things. My glass was always topped off! Do yourself a favor and try serrano's! You won't be disappointed. read more

I loved the veggie fajitas here! They came with squash, zuchhini, Serrano peppers, bell peppers, mushrooms and onions. Some of my favorite veggie fajtas in town! The staff was super friendly and attentive. The rice was a little bland, but ok. The brisket enchiladas were strange, but well executed. Salsa was quite spicy and delicious. The chips are a great texture as well! I will definitely be back! read more

One of my favorite go to places. That street corn is BOMB! Staff is always nice. Always get our order super fast. The fan and I love this restaurant. Their outdoor patio is huge and pup friendly. So if you wanted to bring your fur baby it's totally cool. I seriously have no complaints. Love you serranos read more

Me and my daughter went to the Southpark Serrano's location on Sunday, October 7th around 3:30, we were seated immediately but waited almost 10 minutes before the waitress came to take our drink order. We received our drinks and waited another 10 minutes for the waitress to come take our order. The waitress was Bailey which we have had before. She had another waitress deliver our Queso and then another deliver our food. I am sure Bailey recognized us from previously. Our previous visit was 4 mos. to 6 mos. ago when we had her but once we got our drinks and food she totally ignored us. She never refilled a drink glass and anything else for that matter. Never checked to see if we needed anything. The waiter at the table next to us ask is we needed more tea or anything else. He filled out glasses and brought us some more salsa. I am normally a good tipper but on this visit I left nothing for a tip. The manager asked if we were unhappy and I informed him of our experience. He didn't really seem to care. On the visit on Sunday I think Bailey recognized us and it didn't matter because she was not going to go out of her way to make this visit better. She did refill my tea glass once but upon sitting it on the table she slammed it down. When she delivered the bill she never ask if we needed anything else or even a comment that when you are ready here is your bill. I paid the bill and I left $5.00 tip this time. I also wrote a note on the back of the merchant's copy of the credit card receipt. This girl never smiled once and all conversation was very curt nd short. You know a smile goes a long way. These 2 times are not the only bad experience we have had with the wait staff. One other time I am guessing we were not important enough because our waitress that time decided to take a seat at one of her table with her customers and showed them pictures that were on her phone. We waited about 15 minutes that time just to get our ticket and we could have used a refill on our drinks prior to getting the ticket. I think Serrano needs to retrain or hire new wait staff. read more

I was not impressed with Serrano's. I had a blah experience at their other south location but, thought I'd give them another shot. The wait staff did not seem friendly and they had to have stopped by our table about 20 times. It was ridiculous. The food was disappointing and as a non-meat eater, it grossed me out that there was some random ground beef in my rice. My dining partner's pork was all fat. I felt that I had been ripped off, $11 for crappy enchiladas. I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

The food here is OK, nothing spectacular, and the prices are very reasonable. I've tried several dishes, and they've all been good. We've never had to wait long for a table, even on their busiest nights, and the food comes out pretty fast. They have great service and a very friendly staff. Their chips and different salsas are delicious, and the wait staff is always quick to refill anything we need. Unfortunately, the air in the restaurant sometimes gets pretty thick and foggy from the cooking that is going on right beside the dining room, so I'm guessing their ventilation isn't too great. My biggest gripe with Serrano's is their DISGUSTING flour tortillas! They're super greasy, and you can practically see through them when you hold them up. I love what they put in their fajita tacos, but these tortillas collapse and fall apart as soon as you pick it up. I don't understand why they've kept them like this for so long. I wish they would make them as good as their corn tortillas, those are delicious. Please Serrano's, change your flour tortillas!! It's bad enough that you can't find enough places in Austin that make them home-made, but you might as well switch because anything would be better than those. I debated about giving this place 4 stars, but good tortillas are important! read more

It is not a place I would drive out of my way to go to but as far as the food goes it was fair , all I could imagine was they must a POS they must follow like 2 teaspoons of meat as well as 1 Tbs of lettuce . The plus of this place is the light it is bright enough to see all 4 menus they hand you and price wise is not real cheap for what you get but comparable to any other chain eating place, The noise in there is high, babies crying, waiters and other staff quickly buzzing around if you want to check it out you will see all the big screens on the same channel and service is quick. read more

I being to Serranos twice. The waitress we had was really good and always checking on us to make sure things were going pretty good. She is very funny and always joking around. She even remember my face from the previous visit; her name is "Shannon". The food was good, I cannot complain about it. The ambient is pretty nice since we sat outside and watch the sunset on Friday. The place was pack but we were able to find a seat outside. If you go there for Happy hours be prepare to wait since this happen to us the first time but we enjoy ourselves at the bar while we waited. Over all, my experience was a good one and I will go back. read more

Serranos is my "go to" for quick Mexican food. Fajitas in order? Head to Serranos. Get the queso. Split beef fajitas for ONE (because you know you'll eat at least a basket or two of chips). Walk away with a $30 dinner bill. NICE! The Southpark location isn't my favorite, but they have more space and a bigger bar area than the South MoPac/Brodie location. That's a win! read more

Pollo a Mojo de ajo--Chicken in a white wine butter sauce with lots of garlic. 6.99 for three chicken thighs- easily splittable if you're not starving. Nice thin crisp chips and decent margaritas. Not a bad way to spend your Sunday. Minus two stars because the margaritas were just "decent" - a little too sweet and not strong enough- Don't point fingers- a good margarita is VERY important. read more

NEVER AGAIN will I come to this restaurant at ANY location. We waited so long for a wait person I started the timer on my phone. 15 minutes measured but it was way longer than that! We ordered extra shots of tequila on the margaritas and they charged me for them but didn't pour it! Beans were COLD..they are using chef mike (microwave) ..we ordered chalupas which every other restaurant serves as a beautiful display . I have attached a pic of mine! Not worth the time, money or aggravation you experience trying to make them do their jobs. We were surrounded by tables full of dirty dishes! What a waste of a beautiful patio, wonderful sunset and delightful Austin weather! read more

Serranos - While other restaurants present their chalupas with a beautiful display of lettuce, tomatoes and cheese - SERRANOS doesn't! - Mexican Near Me - Austin, Texas

After a frustrating day yesterday, I stopped in here for one reason only. The bartender took my "margarita on the rocks no salt order" and laughed a little at the 'I need a drink' tone of it. She suggested the 'El Perfecto Margarita' made with their house mix. It was el perfecto indeed. After the HH ended the place cleared out a bit and she chatted with me a little. I wasn't really planning to eat there but I reviewed their menu out of curiosity. I asked her if she had any vegetarian suggestions. And that's when I became much more interested. I figured it was yet another greasy Mexican food place but she informed me that they use a lot of fresh ingredients and suggested the veggie fajitas. She also mentioned their re-fried beans are vegetarian (a lot of places add lard). SOLD! The food was great (as well as the service and the drinks). Must go back soon! read more

Unremarkable is a good word to describe this Serrano's. We ate here at lunch with a group of 8, quickly seated. I got the chicken fajitas with black beans and refried beans. The chicken was over cooked and kind of dry, but not to the point of being sponge like. With beans and cheese added, it still tasted okay, though I had to order extra cheese because the teaspoon full I got was not quite enough for two fajitas. No one complained about their food, but no one remarked "My, this is tasty!" either. Even though the food left quite a bit to be desired, the service was phenomenal. Our drinks never ran low and all of our orders came out correct. Had I been paying, I would have been upset, but I find it hard to complain about a free lunch, even if it is mediocre. Definitely not a place to go on my own dime. read more

Great Fajitas! Mesquite grilled. Friendly staff. Clean & fast service. Kid friendly. Breakfast served too.

Wifey, kiddo and I tried to go here last night. The place was more than halfway empty but there was a 20 minute wait. .....What? The two young ladies at the front could provide no good reason as to why with SO MANY empty tables we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table. Wifey knows people who work there and said it is because the management sucks. Heck, we were just trying to go there because it was convenient. Waiting 20 minutes for no reason does not fly with me and I will not be going back. We ended up going elsewhere and were very happy with our experience. There was a wait, but it was because it was busy... you know, because people actually enjoy going there. read more

We've gone to this location for dinner a couple times because it's close to where we live. There's a decent patio. However, the outdoor seating and convenient location do not outweigh the quality of the food and service. The food is average. We've tried several dishes, including quesadillas, fajitas, and migas. Everything needs more seasoning (even just salt would help!). Each time we went, the service was OK at best. It took awhile to receive anything (chips & salsa, entrées, beverages). I think the servers forgot about us because we were on the patio. Overall, I don't recommend Serrano's. There are much better options for Mexican cuisine in Austin! read more

Went to Serranos last night as part of my date night, my mistake. In the spirit of honesty we went there because the lines at another restaurant we had planned on going to were too long and we didn't want to wait. In retrospect we should have waited... Upon arrival at the restaurant the ambulance in front of the restaurant should have been an indicator. We didn't take it as such. We were able to get right in and be seated. Possibly another indicator on a busy Friday night. We were seated promptly and brought chips and salsa which were actually pretty good. Once the waitress came to the table to take drink orders I was unable to hear her because the music from the stereo speakers was way too loud. Couldn't hear the waitress standing there or even my date across the table. I ordered a draft beer from the bar while looking over the menu. It arrived warm, a third indicator. My date ordered her meal with a bowl of tortilla soup as an appetizer. It arrived after her meal came and was tepid as she put it, translation warm. Her meal order was wrong. Is that one or two more indicators? I was able to eat my dinner which was a mixta parrilla fajitas which included 4 slices of chicken, 4 slices of beef and a jalapeno sausage, and a platter full of onions and a few VERY few peppers I believe a slice and possibly an end piece or 2. But at least the sausage was pretty good. My rice and beans were extremely cold and obviously not made for this dinner service. Dry rice being an indicator here for this one, not even going to discuss the beans. The highlight of my meal was the dessert. I had fried ice cream while my date had sopapillas. The ice cream was very good, unfortunately I don't believe it was made here but rather purchased from an outside source. All in all I believe this meal was a failure from the beginning. I should have listened to the indicators being shown to me from the beginning. But hey if you are up for cold food and warm beer this could be the place for you! Although I know that I will not be returning. read more

Great service, had fajitas and they were delicious and the house marg was not disappointing.

Great Tex-Mex food all around. When I was in college I used to work at a Serranos. I got to know the cooks and got to see much of the food preparation that starts early in the AM. With the notable exception of foods like their desert Flan, everything is made in-house. Fajitas cut from huge pieces of meat and tenderized. The tortillas, while no longer made by an old lady, are still made in-house by a slick machine. The rice, beans, and chile rellenos. All made from scratch every day. It isn't a surprise really that as an adult I return to enjoy some of my favorite dishes: chipotle chicken with grilled onions and avocado, or huevos rancheros with their delicious and complex ranchero sauce, or the pollo con queso, or enchiladas con huevos. If you have a sweet tooth, don't forget to try their sweet tea. If it's too much, they'll cut it for you. Their chips are airy and light, while their salsa is tangy with just a little kick. Enough to whet your appetite, for sure. They can get busy during brunch hours and dinner, but if you get there early enough it is a pleasant experience with great made to order food. read more

My husband put it best: "Location is key - if this place were near our old house we would probably go every other week, but here in Austin it's really not worth the trip." With so much amazing Mexican around I'm not sure we really need to return to Serranos, but it wasn't a bad experience or meal. The food was tasty, the service friendly and the location convenient. read more

Trying to find a good place to grab brunch on a hangover Sunday? Don't go here. Bland would have been a compliment for the food. Maybe I'm spoiled by places like Kerbey and Magnolia and any other number of places that do proper brunching-but this was even below the standard Ihop or Denny's. The veggie omelet I got was really unsatisfying-the spinach in it may not have been fresh for a long time. The side order of homefries? Undercooked to the point of near-raw. Even the chips and salsa were meh. The staff was friendly and attentive however. That's a positive. But it's the only one. read more

The pork carnitas were truly a disappointment. I have been there before and the fajitas are great!

Went with a friend before going shopping. Neither of us had been before. We were seated immediately, and our server said she'd be right with us. About five minutes later, we were still unattended; no one came by with water or chips or to take our drink orders or anything. Then a different server came by and helped us. Our original waitress had seen my friend and I signing so she went out of her way, unasked, to find a server who spoke ASL (who ended up being a really sweet lady). That was really some of the best customer service I've seen in a very long time. The food was prompt in arriving and fairly delicious overall. My friend enjoyed his tacos al carbon and I was impressed that their rice and beans were actually seasoned. I wouldn't mind going back one bit. read more

I tend to avoid big name places. I was invited so I went. Chips and salsa are great. Rice has NO FLAVOR at all. Super dry! Jalapeño bombers YUCK. Take them off the menu until perfected. This seems like a nice enough restaurant, it's not as intimate as Texican Cafe. Definitely not the place for a quiet dinner with conversation, but the service is friendly and the place seems really lively. The food was ok, I got the appetizer platter that had a little bit of everything. My wife got tacos, and in retrospect I probably would have gone that route as well. They have a fair number of fish dishes if that's your thing, and a lot of different kinds of tacos. No mole, though, so if that's your thing, this isn't the place for you. The night we went was buy one get one free enchilada plate night, which could be a really cheap way to feed a few folks. So my wife, daughter, and I went for an early lunch here. None of us had ever been before and it was really a momentary decision while driving the parking lot at this shopping center. It was a great experience, period. The food was good, the staff were helpful, they were very good about knowing how to serve around a cranky 17 month old, and we were never forgotten for refills, etc. The food was good, I especially loved their signature burrito that is fried like a chimichanga and then covered in melted cheddar and jalapenos..YUM! I would definitely say go there for lunch, it's a big spot and doesn't really fill up too much. The price was also reasonable. read more
