Consistent Failure to Launch Sooo...My wife called in an order (5/23/2019). The first person hung up on her. The second person took our order and we thought we were set. I drive over to pick it up and...Crickets...Nothing but Crickets. What order? Huh? Now this is not the first time they have botched my order. It has happened a few times in the past and I let it slide. But now I definitely see a pattern that has not been addressed. Their order/takeout process is woefully flawed. In order to quit wasting people's time I suggest the following: 1. Create a small team solely dedicated to taking and handling orders during peak times. Don't rely on the bartenders who are already busting their asses to handle or process incoming deliveries ( Phone, Web, etc). 2. Dedicate another area of the restaurant to stage this operation rather than the bar. There were 5 of us waiting to pick up our food and 3 of the customers were delivery drivers. 3. Validate the order with the customer! Call them back if necessary. 4. Practice Continual Service Improvement. It is the least you can do for your customers. In closing, I unfortunately will no longer patronize the Serrano's restaurant chain. There are too many other places to eat in Austin that treat their customers with the respect they deserve. read more

A group of us chooses a different restaurant each month to try. We love trying new places and try to give objective reviews. We visited Serrano's on Sat, March 23 for dinner (7 p.m.). I made reservations, however, it's a large restaurant so I'm sure they take walk-ins. Pros: *Upon arrival, I was seated immediately (didn't need entire group to be seated like in some restaurants). *Good location, easy to find. *The drinks were delicious. *Server was knowledgeable about the drink menu. *Food arrived quickly, and hot. *Price point is decent. *Good for large groups. *Plenty of parking space To be improved: *The server was a bit slow and forgetful. I ordered salt on the rim of my drink, it came with none. He was going to get me some, I never received it. My friend wanted to take a pic of the bottle of the liqueur used in his drink, the server offered to get it but forgot to bring it. *Overall, three of four people in the group rated the food bland. The chips and salsa were good, however, the salsa was very spicy (no other options available-I think this is a Texas thing). Another server offered to ask the cook if he could make some less spicy. I declined but appreciated the offer. *Female bathroom is like an ice box. *When leaving, the hostess was at the counter with her head down, like she was tired, bored or hungover. Ordering delivery was easy, and Serranos delivered to my hotel and included cutlery as requested. I didn't find it extremely easy to order online because many options were mandatory. For example, when ordering an enchilada you have to pick what another you'd like. All options are $1 and there isn't an option for "no sauce". Ordered delivery, the mexican street corn side and beef quesadilla. Corn was quite good and served off the cob, which I appreciate because it's easier to eat that way. A great blend of cojita cheese and savory flavors you'd expect. The quesadilla was massive. It's like a personal pizza. Flavor wise I thought it was okay, but would have benefited greatly from some jalapeño or lime because the cheese tends to flatten out whatever seasoning is on the beef. I didn't have a problem this time with the sopapillas being burned but as soon as I called back to the restaurant I immediately apologized and gave me a $15 credit on my next visit which was double the cost of the sopapillas. Been a while since last visit so checked it out again. Arrived during happy hour and the good deal was on house margaritas, large for $5.50. Queso perfecto, chips, salsa to start were all good. Margarita was pretty nice at happy hour. I came for the beef fajitas grilled over mesquite, prepared in the traditional manner over wood. Most restaurants these days are cooking fajitas like Chinese wok food and me no likely. The dish also came with sausage made locally (processed meat though) and chicken. We also had the El Perfecto plate with cheese enchiladas. For me the highlights were the beef fajitas and HH margaritas then queso. Everything else was just average. The service at this particular Serranos location was impeccable. I dropped my napkin and it was picked up for me by a waiter from out of the blue. Our drinks were never less than half full and we were checked on several times throughout the meal. Seamless. So now to the food - it's delicious! I met my cousin on my lunch break here. It was actually a Saturday evening and it was consistently busy. We both ordered enchilada plates. He got the chicken verde enchiladas and I got the chicken enchiladas with queso on top. The chicken in my enchiladas was so moist and cooked just right. The rice and beans were good too and paired well. I also really liked their salsa and chips - the salsa was not too spicy and the chips were fresh and warm. My cousin said his chicken verde enchiladas were awesome too! I seem to always forget about Serranos because it is not the closest tex mex place to my house, but it is close to work. By close I mean it is not 1 mile or less like some other places ... its more like 3.5 or 4 ... haha. After my experience here I will definitely consider them as a positive option more often when I get my hankering for some yummy mexican food! read more

I go to Serrano's because it's one of the few places I can walk to. This translates to more mango margaritas for me! If you go on Tuesday nights, the enchilada plates are buy one get one free. Since you'll be saving so much money, make sure you order a few margaritas and some flan. The place can get a little crowded and noisy but for the most part it never has a wait and the service is quite fast. Que rico! read more

I'm on a quest to find some great new haunts in my new neighborhood. Unfortunately, Serranos didn't quite fit the bill. We were a group of three seated promptly around 7 on a Tuesday night. Our server greeted us quickly and took a drink order. That was about the end of promptness for the night. Our margaritas took 5-7 minutes to get, our waters sat empty, and it was about 15 minutes before we ordered. Once we finally got our food, Virginia saw that she received the wrong sauce on her enchiladas. She said it wasn't a big deal, but she wanted a side of the correct sauce, which she never received. My chicken and cheese quesadillas were basically a half grilled, empty tortilla. Then we received our check (which also took a while) and saw that our margaritas were priced incorrectly. Overall, the food and drinks were mediocre and the service was friendly but slow. With so many other good places around, I see no need to go back. read more

The food there is awesome! Go there and see David and Kimberly at the bar. Never disappointed with their staff here. Although we always sit at the bar, we still love his place. Everything is always very clean and organized and the company is wonderful. I truly enjoy spending two nights out of the week up there hanging out and having a good time. I had the chicken tortilla soup-served hot, shredded chicken with a small piece of corn on the cob. I like Serrano's. It is always consistent and a good place for lunch or dinner. However, I LOVE their Happy Hour. You can get a Rita for $2.50 and appetizers for $1.50 each. Hubby and I can order 3 appetizers, chips and salsa and 2 Ritas and get out for $10 (plus tip for dinner). What a deal! The appetizer specials include cheese quesadilla (good), chicken flautas (good) and nachos (OK). Also, HH ends at 6:30 pm so you need to get there quickly after work. read more

I was a little upset when we came in as it felt like we were ignored for a long time. Of course when you're hungry and all the smells are awesome I suppose time becomes relative. So in the end we missed happy hour prices by about ten min. However, the food more than made up for it. There was a little mix up with my appetizer order but more my fault I suppose. I asked for cheese nachoes and got bean and cheese. Those were whisked away and cheese only presented in mere seconds. I had the cheese enchiladas with their cream sauce. I would put that sauce up against anyone's as the best. I've had a lot of cream sauces in 41 years and it's hands down the best I've ever had. Their sodas do suffer a little from the icky Austin water syndrome that plagues so many places here. If they have a filter, it's time to change it. If they don't then it's time to get one. Serranos is good for quick Mexican food that's pretty decent for fast casual. My favorite thing there is the mixta fajitas with beef, chicken, and sausage. I LOVE the corn tortillas and the chips and salsa are super fresh and good. They also give lots of cheese/pico/etc for putting on your fajitas. read more

What can I say about Serranos? This is our favorite Tex-Mex place and yes it is our go-to undecided dinner night out lol! My favorite is Chimichanga or Pollo Perfecto. They have good but not best Mex house martini. The chips n queso's always fresh. The server is ok most of the time except if you go to the other one (southpark-maybe bec it is fairly new). So i originally went to the location off I-35 and wasn't impressed and left an honest review.. so the owner of that location gave me a gift card to try Serranos again and see how I felt about it. So lets say ... I really liked it this time! This location had good service, yummy beans (as a Mexican i must say this haha) and over all a better feeling. Yes they messed up my food twice, BUT they quickly fixed it before you know it was right in front of my face. My daughter liked her tacos this time and the chicken was much better.. my husband had chicken enchiladas and again I had nachos with sauted spinach on top. The hot sauce with chips was so yummy too! I have actually been craving these nachos ever since. The pricing for all three things fell at about $27 which wasn't bad.. and that even included my ice tea. I would say if you live in this area and like tex mex.. go to this location. The other location i feel doesn't have the same amount of flavor, service and over all feeling. Love this place for dine in, but today we decided to order for pick up. First I was placed on hold twice, called back asked to speak to a manager who explained that the girl didn't have access to the breakfast menu, okay! But an explanation would've been nice. Then we get home and half of our tacos are wrong! We've been here 3 years and finally got around to trying this place. I wish we had been sooner. Mostly typical Tex-mex fair with a few unique offerings, mainly the grilled chicken thigh dishes! Salsa was ok, as well as the queso. My wife enjoyed the fried avocado tacos, but thought they were a little dry. The Pollo Loco was pretty killer though. The smokiness of the mesquite grilled chicken things, coupled with the Pechuga sauce (some type of brandy/wine buttery, creamy sauce) was awesome! By itself, it was a little salty, but putting it on the house made flour tortillas with some lettuce and pico and it was perfect. This review is based solely on the food as it was brought to me, but - the Chile Con Queso was SO bland, the chips were so oily, and salsa was basically tomato sauce with some cilantro leaves. Food is okay, service is terrible. We were kind of greeted and then promptly handed a stack of menus by the host to seat ourselves. It was not busy. At all. No silverware included. It took 10 minutes for someone to come by to even greet us at the table and take our drink order. This was after another staff member had to prompt someone to do this. The scene was mainly employees scattered throughout the restaurant standing around doing nothing and our waitress looking irritated that we were there and speaking as little as possible. We finally received silverware after we finished appetizers. Overall, it's hard to understand why the service is this poor when it's so slow. read more

I've been to Serrano's numerous amounts of times in the last couple of years. What can I say I love thier food, drinks, and prices. Today I went for lunch with my Mom. You can't beat two entrees and two sides for $7.99. I ordered the chicken soft taco, beef chalupa and rice and charra beans. I thought the chicken soft taco was mediocre. I'm not a huge fan of chicken soft tacos anyway but I thought the chicken could be better seasoned. I do like that you can taste the "flavor of the grill." The beef chalupa was over flowing off of the shell. I thought the ground beef was perfectly seasoned but thought they could have added more cheese and the shell was also a little soggy but still real good. I also had the queso perfecto. This has always been one of my favorites. I love how chunky and thick the cheese is without tasting to cheesey if you get what I'm saying. The service was good. We were in and out within my hour lunch break limit. The hostess was a bit slow. You can tell he is new though. He answered a phone call instead of seating about 3 tables worth of people in line. I come to this location often for work meetings and the service is always impeccable and they have a really great selection of Tex Mex and interior Mexican style dishes. The fish tacos are absolutely outstanding! Line caught drum fish with the crunchy slaw and delectable cream sauce. The pulled pork tacos are also very succulent and savory. I think perhaps they have upgraded their menu but the last few times I have been everything has been delicious and I love the salsa. They have tons of gluten-free options clearly labeled on the menu. My husband graduated from the police academy on 6/23(Friday). We knew we didn't have enough room at our place to host the 20 people we had coming into town on graduation day so I had planned to go to chuy's after graduation. Well, the Wednesday before his graduation date (6/21) we decided to go in for a few drinks before closing time and as I sitting there a light bulb came on and I asked my husband "what about bringing everyone here(serranos)?" And he said "yeah, we can ask our waiter." I can't remember our waiters name that night but he was super helpful and gave us the managers number that we needed to speak to. I called the next morning and asked if there was any chance we could reserve a table for 20 on short notice and they said yes!!! LIFE SAVER. After a 3 hour graduation, we were THIRSTY AND STARVING! Our table was ready for us as soon we came in. Chips and salsa were brought out quick. After we all ate, my mother in law who came from out of town said "I really like this place. And our waitress was great. Every time I go anywhere with a party larger than 10 people, the waiters/waitress always roll their eyes or get annoyed." When she said that, I knew I had to write a review to give our waitress some props. So Juliasa(I think that's her name, she was a young girl), thank you for making our dinner a fantastic experience.
