I lived in Austin, Texas for many years and my wife and I were frequent diners at Serranos. I was very fond of the hot sauce and always took some home to hold me over until the ext meal. After we moved to Florida, we would buy a quart to take home but it was so hot is would start leaking through the styrofoam container. That had us buying glass or plastic containers to hold it. After 23 years of doing that every time we came for a visit, my buddy started bringing me 2 quarts in glass jars each trip he made to Florida. I am now in hot sauce heaven. Honestly, I came in expecting a basic Tex-Mex restaurant. Tortillas are homemade nice and thick, salsita is great and the Tulum plate is pretty flavorful. Here's the thing. The server not once made any refill, asked how the food was or asked if we needed anything else. Didn't bother asking if we'd like the check --just came by and plopped two papers down without asking if we needed anything else. This could use tons and tons of improvement. Had to stop into Serranos while in town. The food is always good. Karla served us and she was the friendliest waitress I've come across in months. She talked about her favorite dishes and then engaged in a small conversation. Manager came by our table to make sure all was good (they usually do this). I ordered the cheese dip, veggie enchilada with chicken added and my husband had pork tacos with Mexican street corn. I didn't eat much of the dip (I thought my husband was going to eat it but that was a no go - saved room for desert) and when the bill came, the manager took it off our bill. The food was good, enchiladas were bursting with flavor and goodness. The chicken in my enchiladas was a little bland and rubbery. My husband said the tacos were good, pork was tender and flavorful but the street corn was mediocre (had to much sauce for his liking). For desert we had Flan. This was not smooth like we thought it would be but it was still good. For as busy as Serranos gets, the loudness is low. The decorators did a great job with sound dampening. We love Serranos but we just order el grande tacos and a kid's nachos for pick up. My husband arrived when they said the food would be ready; the food was already sitting out ready for him. When we unpacked the food, all of it was cold, stone cold. Our house is a 7 minute drive away. How long was the food sitting out before he arrived? First can I just say how I appreciate the restaurant separating a crunchy taco in its own container so it wouldn't get soggy from the enchiladas brilliant idea thank you.
