This is hands down my favorite tex mex in Austin. It's your classic no-frills food but it is SO tasty, fresh, and high quality every single time. My go-to is the Emcie's platter with a chicken enchilada and chipotle crema sauce. That, and the crispy taco, are so so good. Their queso, guac, tortillas, and salsa are also great. For a very flavorful Mexican dinner Serranos is a win. Their tacos with fried jalapeños rellenos are wonderful. I liked the Al Pastor tacos. Very bright flavor with citrus and pineapple. I was working FAVOR one day and picked up dinner from here then literally went back the next day and had lunch. It was so good, I went back the next day for lunch and invited my husband. The only problem was that night, we had major food poisoning symptoms and were sick for 2 days. We ordered two lunch specials with a margarita so we couldn't figure out if it was the pacifico rice or the ensalada or the enchilada or the beef fajita taco. We were fighting for the bathroom for 24 hours. That being said, I'm not sure if I'll return or not. He said he would not. The drinks were delicious but I'd be afraid to eat the food again as I highly doubt we were sick from the tequila/mix. We really enjoy this location as it is off the highway and easy access which makes for super easy parking too. Usually make it over right around happy hour to enjoy as many food items as possible for an affordable price. HH is 3-7PM everyday (including weekends - yes!) which includes $2 off margaritas, martini's, & even tequila shots if you're feeling saucy! You also got $2 off antojitos (appetizers) and $1 off beer. Food is always stellar and great! You have so many options here especially when it comes to beans which is exciting for me. You can get black beans, charro, or refried beans. I prefer the charro beans as the juice it comes in is super flavorful and just kicks up the flavor on the rice as well. Service is wonderful too no matter how big your party is. They can hold big parties at this location as they have a separate dining area that is large and often filled with these big parties. So bring the whole FAM! read more

We enjoyed a wonderful meal today. I had the pollo perfecto and my wife has the taco salad with beef fajita meat. We live an hour from Austin and only get in every month or two. Upon my arrival in Austin a few weeks ago, my uncle had ordered take out from here and we were all blown away. I could have just enjoyed this the first night and the leftovers all weekend. Which is kind of what we did! They had ordered the chips and queso along with some enchiladas and the combo fajitas with all the fixings. Enjoying the queso as we settled in with drinks and laughter we all started to make a plate. My younger cousins instantly grabbed a whole Serrano pepper and all had different reactions of enjoyment, spiciness, and tears of burning fire mouth!! I played it cool and stuck to what I know and love. All the meats were tender and juicy still with tons of great Mexican flavors. The guac was super fresh and seasoned well. We are in town for ACL and chose this restaurant because of the location which is about 3 miles from the venue. I had heard of Serranos but had not been there before. We we VERY pleased. The menu selection has traditional Mexican dishes and quite a few specialty ones. In our group we had fajitas, beef enchiladas, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, queso dip and a couple of other appetizers. After 20 years in business you would think Serrano's would be doing things right. The food we had tonight unfortunately shows the complete opposite. My cousin used to say that every time Adam Gonzales (chef/owner) farted; he opened another Serrano's. The locations have dwindled in the past years but this location always seems to be busy. My wife and I have eaten 2 times at this location within the year and we are sad to report: Flour Tortilla - Cardboard (like U-Haul moving boxes) and no taste Mushroom Enchiladas - Bland Vanilla Ice Style TO THE EXTREME! Botana Platter - Chicken Flaquitos One piece actually had no chicken and what chicken there was just fried bland crap. Beef Fajita meat - I used to think they had some of the best but in recent trips its way overcooked and their signature mesquite flavor isn't in there anymore. Highlights - The salsa and chips are always tasty. The stuffed jalapenos seem to hit the spot and have been consistent for many visits. Really, I'm really more close to one star on this one yelpers. This has been my family's favorite Tex-Mex for over a decade. Even during the pandemic, their takeout remained consistent and great. We dined in-person (for the first time since the pandemic) this past Friday evening. I was a little apprehensive about how the in-person service might be but Serrano's performed flawlessly. Although they had many people waiting for tables when we arrived, we did not wait long at all (maybe 10 minutes?) and every employee we encountered, from the hostesses to the bartenders to our waitress, were all friendly and wonderful! The star of our visit, though, was our waitress Ceylany. She checked on us consistently throughout our meal, handled our complicated order without any mistakes, and was friendly and professional. Our food came out quickly and was as good as it always is and this was during one of their busiest dining periods. I had a sangria margarita and my husband had a mango -- both were fantastic. We could not have been happier with our decision to dine in-person again at Serrano's and we will be back again soon. I came here last week for dinner with my daughter and grandkids. In the middle of our meal we see a roach crawl across our table. As soon as we spotted it out waitress happened to come up to us as ask if we needed anything else. She spotted the roach and gave a disgusted look and continued as if nothing was wrong. Safe to say I won't return to this location as it must be very dirty. If the waitress seemed unbothered I would assume its a regular occurrence. I want to give a BIG shoutout to Samanta, my server. She put a HUGE HUGE smile on my face. I had leftovers and I asked her for a box so I can pack it up and give it to a homeless person. I mentioned what I was doing when I asked for the box. Then I realized I needed plastic eating utensils. Wow! This was incredible. I ordered off of Favor and wasn't sure what to expect. Last time I ordered Mexican take out (a different brand restaurant) I was kinda let down. I ordered Chicken Flautas, the Beef Crunchy Tacos and half a cheese quesadilla. Including tip the total was less than $40. I though that was a great deal! They gave me two huge bags of chips and like 8 little ramakins of salsa plus pico! The flautas md tacos were so crunchy, everything was fresh and warm. I really really like their taco meat! Updated menu! I'm a sucker for their beef fajitas! Also they have a side choice of street corn that is ahmazing! Their brunch options are legit, my boyfriend got the grandioso or something of that nature and inhaled it! I prefer the build your own breakfast tacos for 3.75!! Queso perfecto (ground beef, guac and pico) as an app is always a good idea! They serve black drum as their fish choice now with a chipotle cream sauce- yum!! worst ... restaurant ... ever ... Ridiculously expensive for what you get. A bowl of queso made with gross fake cheese out of a can was $15 ... Are you serious? ... Margaritas were no better. I got what was supposed to be a mango version. There was not even the slightest hint of mango. It just tasted like limeade... And for a $10 large drink I didn't even get tipsy and I'm like 90lb... Getting our food took forever too even tho the place was half empty. No idea how they manage to stay in business charging $60 for one meal and an appraiser and drinks, all of which are beyond disappointing... I like this place. I do not come here often but the food and service has always been consistent and good. Their enchiladas are tasty, queso is good, homemade tortillas, good drink selection. If you want better than mediocre tex mex (made from local and fresh daily, im told) come here. Service is friendly and quick and they have lots of seating for bigger parties. My husband and I went to the SouthPark Meadows location on Friday, August 11th at around 5:30pm. The restaurant was not busy, and we were seated immediately. We sat and waited and waited and waited. There were employees standing in both doorways to the kitchen areas. Other tables were being helped. We were offered no chips and salsa. No one came to ask about a drink order. Finally, after 10 minutes, the woman who was to be our waitress appeared at the north side door of the kitchen area. When she saw my husband and I seated in her section, she turned to her co-worker who had been standing there the entire time and made an ugly face. We immediately stood up and went to the front desk and requested to speak to the manager. When we raised our concerns about the lack of service and being assigned a waitress who CLEARLY did not want us in HER section, he offered to seat us elsewhere. Would YOU want someone like that to be responsible for bringing YOUR food out to you? Would you TRUST eating what was placed before you by someone with that attitude? We declined the offer of a new seat location. This restaurant is very poorly managed because this has happened more than once. We try to go to this location because it's so close to home. However, we left this Serrano's and went to the one off of Mopac and had a totally different experience. I wish I could remember our waitresses name because her service was remarkably fantastic. I ended up leaving a 30% tip. If I saw her I would most definitely ask for her again. The food was very tasty and you could tell that they pay attention to quality of ingredients. I love Shrimp Tejanos that were stuffed with cheese and peppers wrapped in bacon. Although I love spicey and can handle the heat, The heat on this pepper took me off guard. I'm not sure if I was having a weak taste bud day or if it was just a spicy pepper used. Just got take out and want to warn others to check your order before leaving. I ordered chicken fajitas low carb so no rice beans but extra veggies instead and guacamole, cheese and sour cream. The person that took my order said guacamole, cheese and salsa comes with every order so I just needed to add sour cream which I did. I get home and I have zero of the guacamole, cheese or sour cream. When you are doing low carb and specifically go over the items it's very disappointing to get home with zero stuff that was supposed to come with it to add flavor. I posted a review first on Google, realized that Google is pro-business, not pro-consumer. So, I am posting this on Yelp. Asian are discriminated against by the restaurant seating hostess. We had a group of six, were told about 20 minutes wait time. After 30 minutes, we were still outside waiting. I informed the hostess that we were waiting, and confirmed that I was the first on the waitlist. After that, a group of five was called in, then another group of five was called in. We had two hungry boys in the group, one middle school, one high school. I explained to the boys that our group was bigger. Then a group of nine was called in. So, I asked the hostess. She led us in to a booth table, which was for four people, but had setup for six. I looked around, we were the only Asian in the restaurant. Yes, we were smaller in size.
