Ooooh I just hate moving! There is nothing more annoying than having to pack everything you own and try to fit it in a new place... But, let's face it, that's a big part of living in NYC. On January we moved 10 blocks, in the same neighborhood. We were thinking of moving it all ourselves, but it was cold and snowy and not very nice in general. A friend recommended Serenity, I was afraid it'll cost too much, but once I called they gave me a very fair estimate, which actually came out to be almost as much as it would have cost us to rent a u-haul and try to carry everything ourselves. The brought all the boxes and tape a couple of days before, we packed it all and their guys came just in time did the job and left as agreed. I know sometimes they tell you price might change, but it did not cost us a dime more... They were very careful with my things. Our broker originally recommended Serenity Movers to us. I had always used movers that applied a flat rate for the move, so this was my first time using an hourly rate. We had a great move. They were very careful with all our stuff and dealt with our difficult landlord very professionally. We would definitely consider using Serenity Movers again. The price was also very competitive and they ended up completing the move in a shorter time frame than was estimated. My only complaint would be that toward the end of the day (it was a hot, sunny day) the guys started getting tired and were leaning over the very old fragile banisters to hand off boxes versus bringing them around. Once we spoke about it they did not lean over them anymore. My husband and I did have to keep an eye on everyone to make sure time wasn't deliberately getting stretched out, but this has happened with all our movers. Moving is rarely a fun, stress-free experience. The packing of your personal belongings is tedious, locating a new apartment makes you question your sanity, and entrusting your hard-earned Ikea furniture to a crew of strangers can be difficult. Serenity deftly took care of that last issue for me without fault. Customer service - Max was great and routinely took my calls and followed up post-move to make sure all was up to snuff. Actual move - 5 man crew showed up on time, surveyed our apartment, developed their plan, and went to it. Valuable items were wrapped with extreme care and treated well. Issues (ie. existing damage to my items and to the building) were pointed out, which is a great CYA for the crew and let me know that these guys were on point. Sweat those details! I never once saw a crew member slacking off and they finished within the 5hr. window I prepaid for. Packing - Rented the 1BD crate package from Serenity and it made the packing a little more bearable. They dropped them off a week ahead of the move date and will pick them up a week post move; plenty of time to pack/unpack. So far, Serenity has been anything but. More like a nightmare. Horrible customer service. Using materials we never asked for, put furniture like nightstands and mattresses in boxes when they were already wrapped and now are trying to charge double the price for exceeding square feet. At the beginning of the move, one of the guys informed about the gratuity he was expecting. When my husband gave him a tip, he asked if it was just for him, then a dirty look and no thank you. Two years ago this company was suggested to me. I was overseeing a move for a client in lower Manhattan. The contact person from Serenity was very professional and also down to earth. He was clear on costs and exactly how things would be moved and packed. The communication with the office people was always easy and quick. They were available practically 24/7. I found Serenity on Angie's List. They made a reasonable offer to complete the move in 3 hours (based on my description over the phone of my apartment's contents). Serenity would have earned a nice increase if the move took longer than 3 hours. In other words, the incentives was for them to work slowly and run up the bill. However, nothing of the sort happened. They completed the move in 2.5 hours, and did it perfectly. Nothing was missing or damaged. They were courteous, prompt, efficient. All in all, this seems like an excellent company. If you're looking for NYC movers, check these guys (and gals) out. The movers were all guys. There were 3 of them and they were all great. Courteous, professional, efficient and super prompt. They arrived much earlier than scheduled and got a good early start. Thankfully the freight elevator that we had reserved in the building that we were moving in to allowed the guys to move in earlier than our designated time slot. There was damage (a dent) in our water cooler and one lamp was cracked when moving it in the new apt. but the staff member offered reimbursement which we declined b/c it was from Ikea and really not worth much. I was impressed that he accepted responsibility. They really were great guys. That aside, I was absolutely pleased with the staff, service, etc. We tipped very well I believe. The guys deserved it. Serenity came recomended to me via my real estate broker. Recommendations go a long way so I took his and I am glad to have done so. I would definitely recommend Serenity and I would call on them for my next move. I work in luxury hospitality and I place tremendous value on customer service and satisfaction. I feel that Serenity does as well. And of course, thanks to Molly, the dispatcher (I believe). Molly was courteous and efficient and kept in contact with me by calling every couple of days up until the move to go over anything like inventory count and any changes. We moved in the middle of July recently and had a great experience with them. I really liked that they came to look over our place to give us a flatrate price as I wasn't too keen and sure of myself to list all that has to be moved. The Flatrate guarantee was such a relief on a very stressful day, I really liked that about them. On the day of the move, 6 men came. They were so fast and quick I couldn't keep up with them! They were very careful with wrapping all of our furniture as best as they can. The lead mover was very professional and directed very smoothly under pressure. The only snags we ran into were: Our bookshelf leg broke during the move, but they movers told us before they left. There was a miscommunication with Serenity offices and our movers and the movers weren't told by their own offices the process of how the freight at new building was to work . Our building told Serenity a week ahead of the process due to strict rules in the building. There ended up being a difficult moment between our movers and the building due to this, but was finally worked out. they moved our family of 5 to the new place and finished by 4:30pm! As someone who has had his fair share of harrowing moving experiences, I am skeptical of anyone who tells me his or her move was a dream. To wit: I have had my belongings packed with newspapers scraped off the sidewalk recycling pile 13 hours late, only to have my boxes effectively be taken hostage for 6 weeks. I associate moving more with some sort of alpha male assertion experience, where I am trying to cajole a group of people I'm ostensibly paying to focus on physical labor while I carry boxes alongside them. Enter Serenity Movers, highly recommend by a friend. The experience started promisingly, with Maxwell setting up the logistics and calmly answering questions. He even gave me his home number to reach him after hours when I left a message late in the day. I grew a little wary when I called to confirm a few days before the move and - mistaking me for someone else - Max said that Sunday was booked and that it wasn't going to happen. After we straightened out the mistaken identity, Max was apologetic and offered - unprompted - a couple of free wardrobe boxes on move day. A classy move, but I was still suspicious. Move day was a whirlwind, though maybe not for the reasons you'd expect: * the team, led by Yaniv, showed up EARLY (8:45am), and actually looked at the boxes, oversized items etc, before starting to optimize the process * the guys asked questions if they didn't know what to do, helped pack loose things that we needed to take, even stopped to ask my wife if she wanted to write on a box before they picked it up * when I tried to pick up a box to help out, they Took It Away From Me. They even took things we were throwing away out of the apartment for us * we were completely moved out in 2.5 hours. Did I mention we lived in a 5th floor walk-up? * move-in was faster. The guys even helped us put casters on all the furniture * the entire process took less than 4.5 hours, moving from the UWS to BK. They ended up charging us LESS than their estimate Before last week, I would never have expected that moving in NY would be anything less than 24 hours of tense, sweaty hell followed by an unearned ransom payment. Maxwell, the main phone guy is terrific, dealing with me cancelling way too many moving dates on him. Due to issues on our end, we had to move twice and used the same crew for both moves. It's unfortunate that greed takes precedent over good business. They moved me 2 years ago. All was good. I'm moving again, and received what I thought was a decent quote. I hired them. Then, I figured, why not have them pack up my apartment, as well. Easier for me since I work full time and better for them. So, my quote to move (no packing) was $814. Totally reasonable. Then I asked what it would be to pack me up. Mind you, I'm not taking 3/4 of my furniture to my new place and I'm in a 700sf 1 bedroom apartment. Cost? $1200 above the cost to move. Now, how could it be $814 to move me and $1200 to pack, I ask? Nice guy Max agrees that it doesn't seem right and says he'll send a foreman over to see how much it would cost to pack me up. Foreman shows up. No notebook, no notes. Shows me pictures of his dog, family, etc. New quote: $1600 to move me and $400 to pack. LOL. So basically, they doubled the price of my move and lowered the packing price by $800. Does that make sense to anyone? They wanted a $2,000 job. That's the bottom line. Of course, Max spoke to the owner and they wouldn't change their quote, even though Max admits it's not logical. So, they lost a customer. And, my daughter is moving out of her place next month. So, they lost two customers. And, so on and so on. Shame on Serenity Movers for price gauging and very poor customer service. read more

They were 10 minutes early, and the move took EXACTLY as long as they said it would (and thus cost exactly what they estimated it would). The guys worked quickly and efficiently, and nothing broke. Scheduling and getting an estimate was a breeze, Maxwell is always great to talk to and easy to reach and Noel arrived on time and gave me a fast estimate. The day of my last move the team was running a little late but made sure to let us know and still arrived earlier than they said they would. Had a great experience with Serenity movers. They finished faster than estimated which brought the cost down even lower than we were expecting. The three men came equipped with additional boxes and tape which helped us tremendously since we were less than 100% packed by the time we were scheduled to move.
