Serenity Garden Café is the epitome of small town café from the staff to the décor to the food, and I there is nothing wrong that! The vibe and energy of Serenity Garden is one that is line with Blue Ridge. It is slower in pace, friendly in nature and settled in the feelings of the past. We wandered in on a Friday afternoon to grab breakfast, but were sad to learn they stopped serving breakfast fairly early. Wasn't a big deal, so we went with lunch in the form of a couple Triple Decker Sandwiches with fries and onion rings. The sandwiches were tasty, the fries crispy and the onion rings fried to perfection. And can't forget about the sweet tea. The only issue we ran into was one sandwich was 86 on mayo, but was still delivered with it. They took it back, apologized and got a new one out as soon as possible. The place is fairly well sized with an indoor dining room, a small shop and 4 tables on their covered patio that sat directly on Main Street. We chose the outdoor seating and given the weather, enjoyed it quite a bit! Overall, Serenity Garden Cafe was a solid place for a decent lunch on Main Street. While we enjoyed, we won't be adding to our "must visit" list for our future Blue Ridge trips. Solid 3.5 stars. read more

The food here is great, but the staff, what we assumed were the owners, were extremely rude to other staff and to customers. This was our second visit here within a year and it was the same each time. There was one younger waitress there that was extremely kind that they were extremely un-nice to, and they kept telling her to deter new customers coming in by saying "we can't accept this many people" or "it's going to be 30 minutes before we can sit you" but inconsistent reasons each time. Really great comfort food and a surprisingly excellent lobster bisque! We enjoyed meeting the family and the food was truly delicious. They claim to serve sourdough, however in taste and texture it was exactly like white bread. The tomato basil soup was very thin and flavorless and didn't seem homemade, especially when overhearing the owner ordering more premade tomato soup from Sysco. If you have a family, don't come here. While the restaurant has a whole host of high chairs, they are absolutely not family friendly. My husband, my one year old son and I were kicked out this morning while trying to eat breakfast because my son was being a noisy baby. He was not screaming crying or having a meltdown, simply having some happy screeches that we were attending to in order to keep him engaged before our meal came. To our knowledge, none of the other two tables in the restaurant complained. In fact, both were appalled when we were asked to leave. Bless our sweet waitress who had to deliver the news, and when we asked "really?" and "because of the baby?", she said yes, that his noises were bothering the owner. When I asked about our food (that we had already ordered and been waiting a good 10-15 minutes for), we were told they simply weren't making it. At least they didn't charge me for it. I will be the first to admit noisy kids can be annoying, and I would have absolutely removed him from the restaurant myself if I felt he was being a nuisance. They do serve lunch menu the entire day! The website menu is not updated as of this review date. Their menu consists of sandwiches, salads, soups, chicken, beef and fish entrees. We have ordered chicken philly sandwich, grilled salmon, country fried steak. You get too pick your side from fries, green beans, mashed potato etc. The food was served quickly and tasted good. Yes, you might wait and feel like no one is paying attention to you in the small area near the door. But the food and service was excellent. There were five of us , all ordered something different, and all had a great meal. One special ordered a plate to make it Keto friendly and she loved what she got, too. Fresh mushrooms. Nicely seasoned fries. Fast service and attentive refills. A little more pricey than I would expect ($14 - $19 lunches). But portions were generous and it is a tourist town. A very small area for outdoor seating was available but we sat inside. We're weekend cabin owners and will definitely be back! read more

Came here for breakfast to kick off a weekend getaway with my friend in Blue Ridge, and I'm just happy this wasn't foreshadowing for how the rest of our trip would go because oooh boy, was it weird and rude in here. To start, this seems to be the only place open at 8:00 am (on a Saturday) so we didn't have a ton of options. We came in and waited behind another couple to be seated. The restaurant had other tables filled but several were empty or just waiting to be cleared. The couple in front of us had had enough waiting though, and we probably should've taken their hint because they left. Several more minutes later and lots of neck craning and smiling in an attempt to get someone's attention, we were signaled to sit down at a recently cleared spot and given menus. There was not a hello, just the server standing over us so we both ordered a coffee and she disappeared immediately. A few minutes later two coffees were dropped off (no eye contact), and before I could ask for a cup of water or cream for my coffee, she was already gone. We waited and waited some more. I had the view of a man handed menus roughly by the same server who sat us, and he then handing them back saying he was leaving because of how rude the interaction was (I looked longingly out of the open door swinging behind him and wondered if I had a few singles to put down for our coffee so we too could escape). Our wait gave me time to reflect on the state of our dress of modest shorts, regular T-shirts, and neatly combed hair (nope, nothing offensively odorous or off putting in style) or if I had some RBC going on (nope, we appeared pleasantly relaxed if not adorned with mildly sleepy vacation smiles). But, eventually, a different server came over and took our order. Simple enough - eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit (my friend got eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and no bread). We then waited an hour more before seeing our food. It was tasteless and not hot. The hashbrowns were definitely from a preshredded frozen bag, fried eggs were cooked properly (yay?), biscuit bottom and top were burnt, bacon was cooked enough to be edible, and grits were bland (if they weren't instant then that's definitely the flavor and consistency they were going for). I asked for the check immediately upon getting our food, since I didn't know how long that would take. It arrived faster than anything else. We ate what we felt like eating, paid, and dipped out. I would not recommend this place at all - just wait until other spots open. I will say Das Kaffee Haus across the street may not have a full breakfast, but we sure were glad to have really friendly service and excellent coffee there. We popped in hoping to grab a drink for the road, and the pleasant atmosphere was enough to erase all the weirdness from breakfast. We'll be going back there again before we leave I'm sure (they have macarons! homemade truffles! cheesecakes!) but never again will we visit Serenity (my butt) Garden. read more

Really sweet and quaint family-owned deli-style restaurant. Very friendly staff and inviting decor. Food is good especially the Reuben and the cheesesteak. They stay open later for lunch than most places on main st and aren't as hectic as those spots so it's a relaxing, welcoming place for a bite.
