This is a tough one. Did the food and wine pairing. Our hostess was fantastic. Pleasant, informing and engaged. The food was ok. Falafel and cod were okay. Duck empanada dry and cool temp. The steak and fries were poor. Fries were underdone and greasy. Steak was fatty and cold by the time I got to it. Whole experience was less than an hour. Not worth the money. And the wines were unremarkable. So much going on with the food that the wines all just did not stand out. Pretty place. Got some cool pics but we won't be back read more

Pros: The only good thing I feel is they allow you to go room around and try their tasting grapes. how they make the wine from those grapes. if you like small seating and a quiet area may be a good place for you. Cons: small seating area. not that great wine to test. I would say the food was okay too. Since we are vegetarian not much to eat I would skip coming here. read more

This review is long overdue but I wanted to call out my server/host Fernando who was not only super knowledgeable on the wines, but was extremely friendly, funny and witty! He took the time to go through each wine and provide background on each tasting. My friend and I felt very well taken care of and will definitely be back to enjoy the great wines and the even better service! read more

Been here. Done that. Ours was an end-of-day visit. Extraordinary in Napa terms, we didn't need an appointment. And our adorable pourer was both entertaining and knowledgeable. Ms. Reza stayed with us until the doors were locked, bless her soul. But we still left empty handed. Besides, we had bought some pretty amazing stuff earlier in the day. Our tongues were already pleasantly tainted and admittedly on overload. That happens. If we had come early in the day, perhaps it would have been a different story. But after a full day of wine tasting, it ranked low in comparison. Good, but not drop dead wonderful. On the plus side, this is a very pretty venue. Where else in wine country can you close your eyes and just for a moment imagine yourself in Mariposa County (aka Yosemite), land of sequoias. Maybe not the giant ones, but all the same, fragrant, healthy and statuesque. And the tasting was fun. In comparison, I would have to give it a 3.49 stars. Don't let my review deter you. You will not regret going. read more

Sequoia Grove - Outside the lovely grove, more patio area. - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Rutherford, California

Sequoia Grove Vineyards is another hidden gem along the Saint Helena Highway. Its cabin-like tasting room provides a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Of the 4 wines, I enjoyed their Rollicking Rose and Chardonnay. The Rollicking Rose was creamy with a strawberry finish, while the Chardonnay was crisp and fruity. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/AkCtU_OKi6-byTjGLGSwAw?select=tPCASVCp_W29uv4QUHQbig) The service was excellent. Our pourer was attentive and never left our side. It's hard to give a service business one star during the pandemic, but there was nothing that was done to make it two. We came here the day after Thanksgiving with our 4 month old baby. We had a reservation and for those of you who are parents you know what it takes to pack a little one for a day in Napa. When we arrived the staff told us that "we used to be family friendly but we no longer allow children or dogs." While we were trying to figure out if there is a way to save the day, someone with a dog was let in. Apparently the dog was a service dog. I get it: dogs reduce stress while little babies increase it. That is a joke because of course it made no sense. We have been coming to Napa and Sonoma over the past several months with our baby and prior without. Wineries are basically a restaurant in a middle of a vineyard, heavy on wine and light on food. No issues having babies in those as long as you are distanced from other patrons and staying outside. Somehow some wineries decided to stop being "family friendly". This policy doesn't seem to be recommended by the government or any medical authority I could find online. What gives? Silly arbitrary stuff which is arbitrarily enforced. read more

Great wines, knowledgeable wine educators, rustic atmosphere.

Rustic elegance is how I would describe this winery, gorgeous woods all throughout and fiercely elegant all at the same time. We were cheerfully greeted by Mason who poured us glass of light crisp rose and soon after that we had a very tasty Chardonnay, I'd say an excellent way to start our food and wine tasting day. Not long after that we got to meet the delightful Lisa, she was an absolute delight she gave us a tour of the grounds and we discussed the wines and had a tasty little Dungeness crab cake with the 2015 Haire Vineyard Chardonnay so delicious. Now onto my very favorite part, which of course was the food and wine Pairing we were extremely privileged to meet the owner Steve, he spoke of his excitement about this new offering and we were the very excited to get started. The first course was the Alaskan black cod with lentils, caramelized fennel and parsnip it was paired with the 2014 Tonella Vineyard Cabernet Franc, This was a match made in heaven. The second course was the ricotta gnocchi with vegetable Bolognese roasted heirloom tomatoes and mushrooms with shaved picorino and was served with the 2014 stagecoach vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Third course duck three ways roasted duck breast duck coffee toasted Farrow and current and the hazelnut gremolata served with the 2013 Henry brothers Cabernet Sauvignon. Fourth course Cabernet braised short rib served with brown butter squash and a Cabernet Demi this was served with the 2013 cambium. And our dessert was a salted caramel brownie in this beautiful gold box the perfect way to finish our incredible pairing. Britney was the Chef and I must say she has incredible skills in the kitchen, everything was done so exquisitely, Thank you Britney for these amazing foods and the amazing wines that you paired were a perfect match. During the food and wine pairing, there was a whole lot of quiet which is rare and that's because everybody was just enjoying every sip, and every bite of every moment. Absolutely DEVINE I highly recommend doing this and I can guarantee you I will be back. Wow what an Impeccable pairing Thanks to the wonderful staff Sequoia Grove winery we could not of asked to be treated any better than you were. If your looking for a spectacular day in Napa. I'd say come here for the food and wine pairing, no way you won't enjoy it maybe I'll see you there. Cheers SYOY read more

Sequoia Grove Vineyards was my second stop on my Napa Valley trip. Overall I was not too impressed with this Winery because there was nothing too spectacular about the place, but their wine was pretty good. Cozy little cottage, would've been a better experience if it wasn't raining so hard. The staff here was very friendly and they spent a lot of time explaining to me about each wine I was tasting. read more

To be upfront, I'm a wine club member here. I've been here several times and, apart from the one time they were short staffed and was hosted by someone who clearly wasn't front staff, the experience here has been great. My friends and I have been hosted by Mason and Rene, both of whom made the experience a fun and enjoyable one. During this unfortunate COVID times, they host visitors in their outdoor patios. The arrangement is such that every group sits a good distance from each other. read more

This place is awesome! One of the top tasting rooms in Rutherford, just off the highway. The staff is super friendly. I have a very sensitive pallet and I found their reds wonderful! They offer a great tasting experience. A nice atmosphere with an outside patio! The even offer breadsticks and water. We joined their wine club and we can't wait to get our next shipment! Ask For Ryan he will hook you up with a great tasting! He knows his stuff and we learned a lot about wine from him. read more

My group of 3 were frazzled about finding a place last minute for a weekend tasting. We were able to do a walk-in, and wow this place's interior decor and surround landscape was so beautiful and rich in history. Kate was the one who took care of us for the most part. She was super down-to-earth, professional, knowledgable, and very kind. Any questions we had she answered in-depth. Our tasting was fabulous where we got to try several different fragrant wines, plus they were generous on the pour. We had a few questions on what made Napa wine special and Kate had Gary take us out to the vineyard where we were able to get rich insight to the process of cultivating their grapes into wine. He is incredibly passionate about the craft and made the wine making process very interesting to our group. We left the tasting very satisfied and with a lot more respect for Napa wineries. Will definitely recommend this to anyone and will be returning when I make my way back to Napa. read more

Next stop: Sequoia Grove Vineyards! I'd never been to this winery, but it is one of my friend's favorites. It's on the smaller side, so it definitely doesn't have the carnival-like atmosphere that some wineries do. The winery grounds are relatively small - one smallish tasting room with an area for merchandise. There are ~5 bar spaces for tasting indoors, but there are a number of tables (~5 tables) outdoors. Again, we bought by the bottle since we were such a large group and tried the Cab, Cab Reserve, Syrah and the Chardonnay. I'm not a big red wine drinker, but the Chardonnay was great. The service was great - we were helped by the assistant manager (whose name escapes my mind) who was very friendly and a lot of fun. He even provided us with a couple of extra tastings when our bottles ran short. The atmosphere at Sequoia Grove is very serene and peaceful with the huge sequoia trees at the front of the winery. Although if you had encountered my friends and I that day, we may have broken that silent peace... read more

Amazing experience, service, wine, and location. My party of 4 booked the Cabernet Culinary Challenge with Issell. Our party had a great time trying to compose small food pairings with their wine. It was a one-of-a-kind experience, different from the typical Wine Tasting because it gave the tasters some creative control while also learning about their wines. Notable Mention: My boyfriend couldn't make the trip last minute due to an unfortunate circumstance at home. Issell and her team recognized this hardship by not only accommodating our last minute change to our party, but sending my boyfriend with a personal note and a bottle of wine. They definitely know how to treat their guests! I will highly recommend to friends and family! read more

A great experience. From the moment we arrived the experience was great. The best wine tasting experience I've ever had! I've been to many wine tastings but hands-down the best experience was Saturday at Sequoia Grove Winery. Onaad (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) was so engaging and knowledgeable. He was not only able to deftly discuss the wine we were enjoying but he had such interesting insight into the local Napa Valley history. We went with another couple but with Onaad it was like we went with another friend. This was a wine tasting EXPERIENCE and Onaad was the reason for that. The wine as Sequoia is outstanding. I had actually taken a break from reds about 8 years ago; however, this tasting, and especially Sequoia's Cambium changed that. Other standouts were the Cabernet Franc and the Stagecoach. We ended up joining Sequoia's wine club and purchasing several bottles. The club is great because we'll be getting quarterly shipments of amazing wine from a winery we love. Also, we can customize our shipments ahead of time. Also, as members we can enjoy Sequoia tastings anytime we want for free! We ended our day by coming home, turning on the spa, and getting in with a bottle of Sequoia Cab Franc. Bliss. read more

My finest food and wine pairing in the valley to date. Every bit of this food and wine experience was well conceived and expertly executed. I had my reservations at first, seeing shrimp and calamari with Cabernet Franc, believing it would be overpowered by the wine. The chef and team compose the dishes with flavors that complement the wine and clearly have great ability to deconstruct the components of the wines to pair them with each course they build. The new space is comfortable, stylish and clean. The presentation of the experience is superb. The host was knowledgeable and professional while still warm and welcoming. Top notch, from start to finish. Highly recommended. The wines are very well crafted and in current Napa standards, very reasonably priced for the quality. I recommend this without hesitation. read more

I have been a wine club member for a few years now and have always loved how welcoming all of the people who work at Sequoia Grove are! I love going in for tastings but also love how accommodating they when it comes to special wine orders. The wine is fantastic and they have a great variety. They truly are the hidden gem among giants (the big name wineries that surround them). Sequoia Grove still has that personable special touch that a lot of the "big name" wineries have lost. However the bulk of this review is for the FANTASTIC Food & Wine Pairing they offer that anyone and everyone who is planning a visit to the area should try at least once: My Husband and I have been wine club members at Sequoia Grove for a few years, so when we saw that they were offering a food and wine pairing we knew we had to try it. We were absolutely blown away and have since attended the food and wine pairing three times. Lisa is such a great hostess, very knowledgeable about the wines served (all wonderful single vineyard cabs), and makes the Tasting experience very enjoyable. Chef Britney does outstanding work pairing delicious and unique dishes with each of the wines served. As someone with a dietary restriction I really appreciated the care that went into a menu item that was prepared separately for me. It was not just thrown together, you could tell Chef put thought into creating a separate dish for me that would still pair well with the wine being served for the original dish. I should also mention that her plating techniques and the dish-ware used is picture worthy!! The dining room where this tasting experience happens is newly built and very modern "vineyard chic" inside. I attached a photo. My husband and I, after thoroughly enjoying the pairing in August for the first time, have brought back his family as well as my family so that they can also enjoy the experience! Already looking forward to our next visit! read more

The wine was okay but honestly this is the worst treatment I have ever received with my friends at a winery. They were extremely rude and short with our group upon arrival despite us getting tastings as charcuterie boards. They skipped the second wine in our tasting set altogether until I brought it up and then were very rude about pouring the the last glasses of their Cab. At one point we had waited about 25 minutes in between a pour all with empty glasses despite there only being 4-5 tables total in their yard. We had barely a sip per pour and no one explained what wines we were getting or anything about the winery at all. Overall, I was super disappointed. I know we are young and not white, but we still are frequently Napa visitors. This trip ended on a sour note thanks to Sequoia and their staff. I will definitely be recommending against visiting this place if you have a cheerful group of friends, with diverse ethnicities, and under the age of 40. read more

I took a trip to wine country over MLK weekend with Matt B. and our friend Mike K. We drank a lot of wine over two and a half days, starting with a visit to Sequoia Grove Winery, at the recommendation of our hotel's concierge. We were able to walk in, no problem, at around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. We had a nice, relaxing tasting to launch our decadent Napa weekend. The winery was lovely, with a calm tasting room and beautiful grounds. We took each of our pours out to the outdoor patio, which was quiet and surrounded by greenery. We had an hour and a half before we had to go to a 3:00 tasting, and the time just flew right by. There were two tastings on the menu, a $20 current release tasting and a $25 single vineyard tasting. We opted for the current releases, as there were four different wines--the 2014 Napa Valley Chardonnay, the 2014 Rebellious Red, the 2013 Stagecoach Vineyard Syrah, and the 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. These bottles were reasonably priced, ranging from $28 to $40, with discounts for club members. The single vineyard bottles were $95 and $100, and the tasting only featured the two of them. I enjoyed all of our wines, though I didn't end up taking any home (we were flying, and had plans to buy bottles at other vineyards throughout the weekend). The woman who helped us was extremely nice and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my time at Sequoia Grove. It was a pleasant first tasting, easy and leisurely. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a walk-in winery in this part of the valley. Definitely take advantage of the outdoor seating. read more

I had to write this review for one reason and one reason only, Vicki!!! I was so impressed with her personality and knowledge. I have NEVER had a better wine tasting experience. We were greeted instantly(no one else was there lol). From the moment Vicki cracked her first joke I was intrigued. We laughed, spoke about wine, and life advice. I don't have much to say as most wine tastings are pretty straightforward. To enjoy wine and great conversation was all I was after and I was very impressed that that's just what I got. When your in Napa go to Sequoia Grove and ask for Vicki. Great club benefits. I will visit again next time I'm in the Napa area. Also to note, when you sign up for their club you get the same club benefits at their sister winery across the hill. Recommended. read more

This was one of the four wineries we visited in Napa. Sequoia Grove is absolutely an amazing spot to have a picnic. With a huge sequoia tree right in front of their entrance to the tasting room, sets for a cute little picturesque setting with a nice little mini patio for us to enjoy a bottle of their Chardonnay. And we sure did! So buttery and smooth, perfect to wash down our mid day meal. The ladies behind the counter were pleasant and helpful. The grounds were well kept and maintained. It felt like a cozy spot inside of a huge fortress. So tranquil and peaceful. Another must do and see while in Napa. read more

My husband & I stopped here on our way out of Napa, although it's not on the way out. It was the only winery I wanted to stop at that day. After reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp, I knew I had to give their wine a try. Upon entering the tasting room you are greeted by beautiful towering Sequoia (hence the name) trees surrounding a neat barn-like building. Our tasting host was a charming woman named Christi whom we laughed with the entire hour we spent there. Yes, we there for quite a while just tasting & talking to her. She assured me that all of the wine was very good & doesn't leave a wine hangover the next day - this peaked my interest as red wine can sometimes leave me feeling groggy the day after. As we jumped right in, I started with their 2013 Sauv Blanc which was light & easy to drink. I then moved on to the Rollicking Rose - loved it so much I bought a bottle. As I wanted to move onto their reds, Christi insisted that I try their Glorious Gewurz (Gewürztraminer). I explained that I'm not a fan of sweet wine, but upon her explaining that it really wasn't sweet and to give it a try, I found myself buying yet another bottle. It was unexpected to say the least. As I moved down the list of their reds I was noticing a trend, I liked them all. Some more fruit-forward, but they all seemed to be well-balanced. I loved their Cab Franc which is unusual as I tend not to like lighter wine & steer more toward the robust varietal. At this point I was progressing onto the reserve wine section which I didn't really want to being that the price tags were pretty high. I knew if I tasted something I loved that I'd be in trouble. After tasting the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Lamoreaux, I was in trouble! It was beyond. After all was said & done, I walked out with 5 bottles. Sequoia Grove was incredible all around. Beautiful wine, lovely grounds, & warm people. Next time you're in Napa, do yourself a favor & pay them a visit. You won't regret it. read more

We did the Culinary Challenge Wine Experience at Sequoia Grove Winery and it was awesome! Dean, Sequoia Grove's wine educator taught us a lot. I loved seeing how food enhances or ruins wine. I am going to bring this up with my professors in wine studies. They talk more about cleaning our palate but not how to taste with food so this was an education. After learning about their wines and the five taste profiles that we experience (salt, sweet, bitter, sour and umami); they gave us grapes, a pinch of sea salt, and a piece of lemon to experience salt, sweet and sour (acid) with our wine. It was interesting which made the wine better and which made the wine worse. Each team was assigned a job to make a crustini that worked with the wine. I won't ruin it by telling you which you should pick, just do the culinary challenge and you will find out. We also tasted some wines. I liked the 2012 Historic Vines the best myself, though the 2011 Stagecoach was yummy too. They do a Taste for Cabernet (for up to 12 people) three times a day by appointment, which you can schedule online. If you want to do the Culinary Challenge, you have to give them a call at (707) 944-2945 to make a reservation. They also do tastings in the tasting room without appointment. read more

We came here on a whim after a random recommendation by someone at a nearby table at another tasting. What a godsend. When we'd called ahead, they said they were booked for tastings but I guess near closing time they weren't that busy. The staff was lovely -- we wandered in and wanted to buy a bottle to enjoy out in the back. They just started pouring us wine after wine, with repeats, until we decided as a group what to get. Then when one of us ended up joining the wine club, he came out and refunded 20% for the wines we'd already purchased to match the club member price. SO NICE. PS killer breadsticks. read more

EXCELLENT Service! Jack took really good care of us! When he found out were were celebrating our first anniversary in Napa, he took care of our wine tasting & gave us a very expensive glass of wine as well. We were already enjoying ourselves in their beautiful gardens outside & enjoying a great tasting on our own time. By taking care of our tasting and offering another glass, is just the icing on the cake. It's not about the money, but rather, about making us feel welcome and like old friends, rather than another customer and another buyer for their wines. I really appreciated his low-key, laid-back service. Next time we're in the area, we're definitely coming back & this time we'll bring some picnic supplies to enjoy in their gardens with their delicious wines! :) read more

Sequoia Grove - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Rutherford, California

This was the first winery that my wife and I joined. We've been members at Sequoia Grove for the past three years and this review is long overdue. To start off, we stumbled upon Sequoia by accident. Our day of wine tasting was coming to a close and we were looking for one more place to go. This is how we decided to try it: Me: What about that place? Jenn: Why not? We like trees. The small grove of trees that is next to Sequoia was not the only thing we loved. Despite it being 4:00 and close to closing, Jack chatted with us and made sure that we enjoyed everything. The wine is amazing. We loved all of them. Their Cab, the Rebellious Red which changes every year, the Stagecoach Syrah...all amazing and I look forward to every shipment. I could go on and on about all of the wine that I have had there but it's something that you have to taste. The member events are very fun. I took my wife there for their Valentine's celebration and we thoroughly enjoyed wood fire pizzas and desserts. The 4th of July BBQ has pulled pork sandwiches and other tasty veggies and treats. We have yet to attend the harvest party but it sounds amazing. Sequoia Grove is not the typical Napa winery; I feel like it belongs in Sonoma. What I mean by this is that the staff and environment is so incredibly welcoming. Sequoia is not only about tasting the wine and selling the wine. It's about enjoying the company your with, the memories you make, and, yes, the wine you taste. Every time my wife and I come in, they recognize us and ask us how we've been. Hands down, this is a winery to be part of. read more
