Located along Highway 29 in Rutherford, Sequoia Grove Winery offers an intimate Napa Valley tasting experience centered on Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux-style wines. The winery combines a peaceful redwood-shaded setting with carefully structured wines and warm, knowledgeable hospitality. My visit was especially memorable because of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah I tasted. Both demonstrated the depth, balance, and elegance expected from quality Napa Valley reds. Having a bottle signed by the owner added a personal touch that transformed an enjoyable tasting into a lasting memory. The drive to Sequoia Grove follows Highway 29 through the heart of Napa Valley, passing vineyards and wineries as you enter Rutherford. The winery is conveniently located beside the main road, but its landscaping and tall trees give the property a much quieter and more secluded feeling once you arrive. The tasting room occupies a rustic wooden building surrounded by gardens and towering coastal redwoods. A flagstone walkway leads through ornamental grasses, shrubs, flowers, and mature trees toward the entrance. The natural wood exterior allows the building to blend comfortably into the surrounding landscape rather than appearing overly elaborate or commercial. Outdoor tastings are offered beneath the redwoods, providing a shaded and peaceful environment for enjoying wine. The gardens and patio areas create an intimate atmosphere that feels more like a private retreat than a crowded Napa Valley attraction. Well-behaved leashed dogs are permitted in the outdoor areas. Inside, the tasting room maintains the rustic character established by the wooden exterior. Exposed wood, warm lighting, comfortable furnishings, and large tasting tables create a polished yet relaxed atmosphere. The room feels refined enough for premium Cabernet Sauvignon without becoming overly formal or intimidating. Sequoia Grove offers hosted, seated tastings rather than simply lining visitors along a crowded bar. Current experiences may include standard wine flights, wines paired with small bites, single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon tastings, and more elaborate chef-prepared food pairings. Tastings can be held indoors or outside, depending on the selected experience and conditions. The smaller scale of the tasting areas helps the visit feel personal. That intimate atmosphere matched my own experience, particularly when I had a bottle signed by the owner. It was a thoughtful moment that made the winery feel more approachable and created a keepsake I will always associate with the visit. Sequoia Grove produces a changing portfolio of Napa Valley wines rather than a fixed number that remains constant every year. Its selection focuses strongly on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varieties, including Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and red blends. It also produces wines such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, along with vineyard-designated and limited-production releases. Some of the winery's best-known bottles include its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, and Cambium, its flagship Bordeaux-style red blend. Cambium is featured prominently in the winery's premium tastings and food-pairing experiences. The first wine I tried was the Cabernet Sauvignon. It was bold but beautifully balanced, with rich dark-fruit flavors, velvety tannins, and a long, lingering finish. It had the structure and depth expected from a Napa Valley Cabernet while remaining smooth and elegant. It was powerful without feeling harsh and delivered everything I hoped to find in this style of wine. The Bordeaux-style blend was equally impressive. It was smooth, layered, and complex, with fruit, oak, and spice working together rather than competing with one another. The balance gave the wine a refined quality, and each sip seemed to reveal another layer of flavor. It was an excellent California interpretation of traditional Bordeaux-style winemaking. Sequoia Grove's current tasting information does not indicate that a souvenir glass is routinely included with its standard experiences. Guests should therefore not assume that the tasting glass can be taken home unless the winery specifically states that it is included. The signed bottle I received, however, became an even more personal souvenir from the visit. Sequoia Grove Winery was established in 1979 by brothers Jim and Steve Allen. They founded the winery during an important period in Napa Valley's development, when the region was gaining international recognition for producing wines capable of competing with respected European estates. The property's redwoods became central to both the winery's name and identity. Its rustic tasting room and mature trees create a strong connection between the winery and the natural character of the land. Sequoia Grove quickly earned recognition for its Cabernet Sauvignon. Highly recommend this tasting room! Came here on a Sunday morning and we were seating in the outdoor area. Very cozy area but doesn't feel crowded and it was nicely shaded so you didn't have to worry about burning in the sun. It's dog friendly too. Was helped by John who I loooooooved. Told him I wanted to get trashed and he was fully supportive. We did the wine and bites which came with 4 reds & small bites. All wines and food options were great. Wines were great quality. Service and experience was 10/10. Would definitely come back again. We left with a couple bottles as we enjoyed what we had tasted. read more

One of my favorite wineries in all of Napa, and the only one where we've held onto our membership for years. Easy to find, beautiful from the road in, and exactly what you picture when you think Napa. The whites and reds are all worth trying. Each one tastes distinct, and the flagship bottles run $44 to $125, so not cheap, but fair for wines this good. Membership is the real draw. Members get full tastings plus a food menu for themselves and two guests, which we lean on every time we pick up wine. The grounds are stunning. Plenty of tables across the property, including quiet, secluded spots for a real conversation. The member experience runs about 1.5 hours, which is plenty. The food held up too. Tomato arancini with basil aioli, bruschetta, roasted olives, marcona almonds, hummus with crispy pita, sourdough with oil and balsamic. The arancini was the best bite of the spread, crisp outside, creamy in the middle, with the basil aioli pulling it together. Staff have been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful on every visit. A few notes: tastings cap around 6 to 8 per party, specialty experiences like the Cambium vertical are discounted for members rather than free, and your membership carries over to their sister property, St. Francis in Sonoma. Plenty of parking and EV charging. Go as a member if possible. read more

This was definitely one of the favorites of our trip, if not THE favorite of this summer 2026 trip to Napa. I was instantly drawn to the property by location and the stunning way they set up the trees onsite. We were the first tasting of the day at 10 AM and sat outside under the gorgeous Sequoias. It was a nice intimate tasting where we learned about the property and the wines. We tried a ton of wine, including their beautiful reds, a rose, a white, etc. I really was impressed with the reds and I like how we were able to compare across 2 of the same wines in different vintages. Pricing was pretty fair and they allowed us to walk some of the property and take photos and explore. Nice little gift shop and clean restrooms both outside and inside the main tasting area. Do not miss out on this gorgeous spot! read more

My husband and I had a great experience here. What made it exceptional was the wonderful service provided by Major. He was funny and engaging throughout the entire time, giving us a thorough history of the wines. Our food bites were tasty as well, and were a nice addition to our wine tasting. We ended up purchasing two wine bottles from our tasting selection - Cabernet Franc and Cambium. Major also gave special attention to our golden retriever, Rex, which made us happy. We love that this place is super dog friendly. The atmosphere was beautiful and peaceful. Just a perfect setting for wine tasting. We will definitely come back here again!! read more

My husband and I went to Sequoia Grove for a wine and food pairing called, "A Taste of Cabernet." The wines were ok but the food was great!! We were with 8 other people in a large room. Chef Jesus was very fun and energetic and would come out and explain all about the food and another person would talk about the wines. It was a very casual and fun vibe. The winery is beautiful too with those huge sequoia trees in the front. I wish we liked the wines better so we could come back. read more

We stopped in here for our scheduled wine tasting on a Monday morning and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Parking can be a little tight on a busy day due to the small lot, but there are some EV charging stations. They do make four whites, one Sauvignon Blanc, and three different Chardonnay's. We started with their whites before moving on to the Napa Merlot, and Malbec and then on to their Cabernets. If you really want to enjoy the Cabernet experience, for $175 you can sit in the Cambium room where you will get a food pairing along with the wine. That reservation is only available between Wednesday and Sunday. Thanks to Vicky, our wine guide, our experience here was as perfect as it gets. Check out the 10 photos in order to enhance your experience. read more

Tucked in a historic farmstead shaded by towering redwoods, Sequoia Grove delivers a unique tasting experience. The Wines + Bites tasting ($85 per person, complementary for members) is a curated journey through some of their best wines paired with house-made bites. From the moment we arrived, our host Niki set the tone with a warm welcome and deep knowledge of the best vintages. She guided us through a flight that showcased the winery's Napa roots, including a beautifully structured 2019 Cab Franc and their elegant 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. We enjoyed the nuanced 2016 Lamoreaux Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and a well balanced 2018 Henry Brothers blend of Cabernet and Merlot. Niki's insights and all the delicious bites from the Sequoia Grove kitchen, including homemade focaccia with green garlic olive oil and a whipped caramelized shallot dip, helped us appreciate winemaker Jesse Fox's expert craftsmanship. Sequoia Grove has a relaxed & intimate atmosphere, and if you're lucky enough to have Niki as your guide, you're in for a memorable experience. read more

Like most, I remain a disloyal wine club member. I add and drop these non-exclusive relationships on a whim and it says something if I'm holding onto one. I've not held onto my Sequoia Grove wine club membership very long so far but as yet, they've also done everything needed to keep me enrolled and nothing that would cause me to look elsewhere. First, let's just say it: the wines. I prefer red wines and Sequoia Grove's are exquisite. I recently opened two bottles at home, with guests, and over the next few days they opened two other wines that they'd brought from elsewhere. There was no comparison and everyone knew it. Next is the offering. As a member of their wine club, Sequoia Grove offers guests complementary tastings for 4 people at a time, accompanied by a picture-perfect array of accompanying bites. I won't say that these comprise a meal, but they go a long way towards getting one from lunch to dinner while imbibing. They are equally beautiful and delicious. I defy your guests to be anything but wowed by the presentation. Finally, there is the winery itself, where tastings may take place inside or outside. If outside, in a covered setting, one is surrounded by majestic Sequoias, naturally, a whole grove of them. The name didn't come from nowhere. So far, I've been to Sequoia Grove Winery 3 times and each has been a really great experience. They talk wine here, during the tastings, but seem well-able to regulate to the level of wine-speak that guests desire. This, as well as the fine wines and great food, merits an easy 5 star rating in every category. I look forward to returning. read more

A friend had recommended visiting here prior to a planned trip. Make a reservation. Like most places in the region, reservations are needed to experience their wines. I got us scheduled and it was well worth it. Mark was our host. He got us started with a taste of their Chardonnay. This was refreshing and delicious. Our tasting then consisted of their wonderful reds. 2018 Napa Valley Malbec which was made with 100% Malbec grapes. My personal favorite, 2019 Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The last two we tried were 2019 Tonella Vineyard Cabernet and 2019 Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Mark answered all our many, many questions. I think my husband had 2-3 more every time he checked on us. He showed us a topographical map of the valley which was fascinating. The land there is perfectly situated for growing grapes. This is a worthy stop for both the wines and the grounds. There is a fairy ring of sequoia trees in front of the building. Just beautiful. read more

We here for tasting on a weekend, and were able to get a reservation for this on short notice. Had called in just a day earlier. The place does have the vibe of a cabin. On arrival we were seated in the patio area surrounded by the sequoia trees. It was really great day to be seated outside. Gary was an amazing host and he walked us through the different wines we were tasting. He did a cheese and lemon experiment while tasting one of the wines , and we were blown away by how drastically a food pairing changes the taste of a wine. Having been here at least 5 times now I can wholeheartedly admit I like everything about Sequioa Grove Winery. The wines are stellar. The setting is lovely (especially when seated outdoors, under the Redwoods). And the "bites" offered at no extra charge to wine club members at all levels are simply delicious, the proverbial icing on the cake. I have every belief that I'll be back here at least 5 more times in the next 6 months which pretty much says everything one should need to know about the place. read more

We had the reservation here for Wines and Bites at 11 am. We were running late that I made a call but we arrived at 11:10 am. When we checked in, we were handed glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Actually this was my 2nd visit at this winery. The first time I was with my friends in April. My friends are good influencers that I joined as a wine club member so I can take our relatives from Italy. Susan was our sommelier. She handed us the menu for our wine tasting for the day. She asked us where we were from. Our relative & fiancé are from Italy. Susan started talking about the Italian places. She was a pleasant lady and even offered to take our pictures between the beautiful sequoia grove and redwood trees. The atmosphere was gorgeous, quiet & relaxing among the sequoias. As we were tasting our wine, she came with a big tray of bites served in bowls. Delicious pretzels, truffles popcorns, meatballs, focaccia bread, & shallot dip. On the menu, Susan served us the Merlot & Malbec. We asked if there was any rose and white wine. We said she can replace the other red wines. She said she can just add the Rose Grenache & Sauvignon Blanc to taste and she did. We continued tasting the other Cabernet Sauvignon. I got my 2nd shipment today. My daughter & niece got Rose of Grenache & I got myself the Sauvignon Blanc. On the way out, Susan showed us the big table where it occupies 8 people as I am returning with friends next month. She took more photos of us in the vineyard and the name of the winery. Can't wait to come back. read more

Overall, we had a decent time at Sequoia Grove, but it isn't our favorite Napa winery. Sequoia has some affordable tasting options, which could be great depending on what you're looking for. The estate itself doesn't have the grandeur of some of the other estates we've been to. When you first arrive at Sequoia Grove, the entrance to the property looks more like a small cabin in the woods vs. a sprawling Napa wine estate you'll see at other places. Upon entering, there are some clothing racks and merchandise available for sale. We were greeted and taken out to the patio for our tasting. They have a small patio area with some tables and couches for seating. Service was friendly, albeit a bit brusque. There were a few other parties there at the same time, and since the space isn't very large, it felt rather packed. We finished our tasting within 30 minutes, which we felt was pretty quick. Our server did try to sell us a bit but nothing over the top. read more

We decided to pick this winery for part of our wine tasting tour based on my love of trees. I know it's not the best way to pick a winery but turns out, that is all we liked when by the time we left. I did appreciate them greeting us when we walk in the door with a glass of wine. That is a great touch! Unfortunately no one in our group found a wine that they liked enough to take home with them. The bonus is they do have a charging station for electric cars, Which are Tesla compatible. We had a lovely sommelier that shared lots of historical information of the winery. read more

This winery offers a phenomenal wine + food pairing! I was here several years ago for a culinary challenge, and Dean was our wine educator (virtual wave to Dean) as we sat outside; the weather was perfect. They have done a fabulous job remodeling this room and transforming the entire outside area into a relaxing patio setting with comfy lounge chairs and fire place. Chef Britny Sundin Maureze sounded familiar as I had the pleasure of tasting her culinary masterpiece a decade ago at Chateau Montelena. She must've been 12 years old then, she looks so young LOL. Nice to see her in action again. The super talented Chef Britny led us through 5 amazing courses as follows: ~ Dungeness crab cake with whole grain dijon creme fraiche, herb salad, and marinated cucumber, paired with 2015 Haire Vineyard Chardonnay (Los Carneros, Napa Valley) ~ Alaskan Black Cod with garam masala, beluga lentils, pickled plum sauce, caramelized fennel and parsnip puree, paired with 2014 Tonella Vineyard Cab Franc (Rutherford, Napa Valley) ~ Ricotta Gnocchi with vegetable bolognese, roasted heirloom tomato marinara, roasted mushrooms, and shaved pecorino, paired with 2014 Stagecoach Vineyard Cab Sauv (Atlas Peak, Napa Valley) ~ Duck Three Ways with roasted duck breast, duck confit, duck "chicharron", toasted farro, currant & hazelnut gremolata, paired with 2013 Henry Brothers Cab Sauv (Howell Mountain, Napa Valley) ~ Cabernet Braised Short Rib with kohlrabi soubise, brown butter summer squash, cabernet demi, paired with 2013 Cambium (Napa Valley) We enjoyed the above-mentioned curated 5 course wine + food pairing in the Cambium room overlooking the gorgeous scenery. The food & wine pairing was indeed a full meal, not small bites, and to think we've finished our last course, Chef Britny saves the best for last...dessert! It was a decadent sea-salted caramel brownie to die for! This is definitely Michelin-star quality! Can't wait to return. Highly recommended for any special occasion in Cab country, or just because. Reservations for the Chef's tasting menu are required. 'Til we meet again ~ cheers and see you on Yelp (SYOY)! read more

DATE: 07/16/2022 Sequoia Grove is one of my favorite wineries I have visited in the Napa Valley. The location was very relaxing and a great place for outdoor wine tasting, especially during the summer heat. My friends and I reserved the Wine and Food experience for a selection of red wine. We were seated indoors amongst other customers with one sommelier. We had a pretty decent and interactive experience with the sommelier. I'm not quite a wine connoisseur, but the sommelier did a great job explaining the wine and food pairing. We started off with one red wine and a variety of food samples that resonates a taste (chocolate chip for sweetness, lemon wedge for sourness, etc.). The sommelier thoroughly explained how each taste enhances/changes the flavor of the wine, which gave me a greater perspective of how to choose the right food to pair with my wine. After that, we delved into the meals. I really learned a lot from this experience and I definitely recommend it for first time wine-tasting visitors! read more

We visited here on 10/30/25 and we did the wine and food pairing. There was a small but very nice little tour just before we were seated. The trees are beautiful and it's a very nice winery. The room we were seated in was very pretty. We are cab drinkers and while I didn't notice a strong variation of each one, they were all very delightful. They add an interesting element right at the beginning of the tasting that was very educational and fun. Our host, I believe his name was Tyler, was really fun and did a great job. Now for the food, the food was absolutely exquisite. It paired perfectly with the wine and the chef, I believe his name was Luke, would come out and talk to us. Not only was he very nice and enjoyable, but he is an AMAZING Chef! I am still dreaming about the dishes he prepared for us. 10/10 would recommend this experience to everyone. I came in very skeptical and it became a highlight. read more

Small boutique winery that had delicious red wines and delectable food. You can't get the wine here in restaurants or anywhere outside the region, making it all the more special. Of all wineries, this was some of the better food on our adventures! The mushroom arancini will remain in my dreams, they were delicious. Myself and others in my party aren't huge Merlot drinkers, but they get their grapes from the coastline and it created a robust fruitful wine - we all bought bottles. Service was attentive, but not overbearing, and seemed casual/calm - not like the cattle call or rushed atmosphere of other places. It was approachable and also polished, which was appreciated by all. When returning to Napa, this will be a place I continue to visit. A high recommend. read more
