Our floors look brand new! We had a great experience with Sequoia Flooring and recommend them to anyone looking to refinish their hardwood floors. Our one-hundred-year-old home was impacted by the Eaton fires. The entire house needed to be cleaned (including the HVAC) and the insulation removed/replaced. With all the crews working on our house, the hardwood was noticeably scratched. Our floors are 1,161 square feet oak. Eder walked us through the refinishing process so we knew what to expect. Sequoia was able to fit our project in, even after the insurance company had us pause the work so they could come out and look at the property (again). Alex and team refinished our floor in four days. Usually, the baseboards get scratched and the rooms get dusty when you refinish the hardwood. But that did not happen on our project. We bought a home and its original wood flooring was covered in carpet, but still in good shape, so we wanted to rip up the old carpet and restore the wood floors. Sequoia priced out reasonably compared to other offers and always were very prompt in answering the phone and returning messages. They told us from the beginning that repairs or stained or damaged areas would be extra and it was likely they would find many places needing repair in an older home like ours. Their repair quotes were reasonable and the guys matched the existing floors perfectly. Communication was great throughout the job and they just called to follow through on a touch-up of a small rough spot in the wood we requested to be fixed up during the final walk-through. We also discussed other options, as I originally was going to refinish existing hardwood. We ended going to laminate. This is my first Yelp review and I'm writing it because I can't say enough positive things about Sequoia Flooring. I live in a condo in DTLA with very strict HOA requirements for remodeling, and Sequoia Flooring went above and beyond to ensure I had the smoothest, easiest experience. Simply put, I would not have been able to get through this renovation without them. If you are in need of new floors, these are your guys. Dennis was my point-man and he was fantastic. From the very first consultation re: style and pricing to the week of installation, he was terrific every step of the way--very helpful and knowledgeable, always responded fast to calls and texts, and was just a genuinely nice, all-around gentleman. His team showed up on time each day and finished the job quickly and professionally. Above all, the floors look beautiful and flawless. Friends and family who have come over are always wowed by how nice it looks in person. Afterward, Dennis was also kind enough to check in regularly to see if any touchups were needed (there were a couple of small ones, and he took care of those within a matter of days). Worth mentioning: I chose an engineered laminate flooring because it's scratch and water-resistant, and I'm really happy with the outcome. I was a little worried it would look cheap, but the quality at Sequoia was so great and the result genuinely looks and feels like hardwood floors. I was on the phone with these folks so many time arranging the pricing estimate / visit - harder than it should have been but they were very communicative. For a spell I thought my contractor could do the job but in the 10th hour, I pulled the trigger to have Sequoia come and refinish the floors. The woman who handles logistics was up front with me about what she was going to try to do in terms of scheduling and after a could days, she was able to wiggle me in for the days I needed the following week. Josef and his crew just completed the refinishing of my hardwood floors, and I could not be happier or more impressed! From my initial phone call and speaking with Sarah, I knew I would be working with them. Josef made the effort to squeeze me in for a last minute appointment and still came in, took his time, explained the process and gave me multiple quotes that covered my different options. The day they came to start the project, he arrived early with two of his guys ready to go. They wasted no time pulling up the carpets and providing me with on the floor stain samples so I could accurately select the color and finish I wanted. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of termite damage in my living room. Josef said he would take care of it with no problem. When he found additional damage in one of the bedrooms, he took care of the damage without trying to nickel and dime me. He never even brought it up until the work had already been done. On the day that they finished, I was unable to meet them for the walk through and final payment. Again, from Josef - no problem! He met me at 7am the next morning and walked me through everything. This review is long overdue but we were busy moving in so here it is. We just purchased our first house and were in a hurry to move in since our rental contract was also expiring. I contacted 10 different shops but Sequoia was the first to send someone over for an estimate. They understood that we were in a hurry and did everything they could to accommodate us. Sarah was extremely helpful. We actually got a few quotes that were lower that Sequoia's, however, they would not be able to complete the job within the timeframe that we wanted. I asked Sarah if they could match the price that the other shops gave us and to my surprise, she was able to communicate with the owner and gave us a price match! Not only that, they asked if they could start the job the next day and I was like "heck yeah, please!." Steven was our project manager and he and his team were extremely professional. They would always come 15 minutes early and waited to be let in. Originally, we were told that the project would take 4 days (there were 850 sqft of original oak hardwood floor to be refinished) but the guys worked their butts off from 8 AM to 7 PM and were able to complete the project within 2 days. What really impressed me was that they really cared about the quality of their works. When the floor was finished, I checked and found some imperfections along the edges of the floor. I contacted Steven with pictures and he sent his crew back the next day to sand down the whole floor again before applying an extra coat for us instead of just giving it a quick fix. This makes me believe that this is a company that stands by their standards and I would (without any hesitation) recommend it to anyone I know. Thank you Sequoia for your great work. This review is long overdue, however we always think its a good idea to let the initial excitement of something new, nice and shiny settle down and see how we feel about it later. Well... we couldn't be happier about the process and the finished product. Thanks Sequoia, thank you Yosef, thank you crew! We had Sequoia Flooring refinish about 700 sqft existing wood flooring and install and finish about 700 sqft new wood. We interviewed 2 other contractors. Yosef came into our home and we immediately felt that he took ownership of the project and that his suggestions, the options, coordination and the process would be in the best of hands. We were able to stay in the home during the entire installation process. Furniture had to be re arraigned and stored on premises as living as well as sleeping quarters were affected by the installation. It was expertly coordinated. The crew was very punctual every day, clean, efficient, professional and friendly. Amazing! We have had all sort of experiences with contractors. Sequoia's crew and their work is top notch, - really. We had this work done right before Thanksgiving last year. Everything went according to the outlined timetable, no delays, no surprises. How often can that be said about renovation projects? The home looked great for the holidays, the home and floors still look beautiful now, 7 month later. We are as pleased with their work now as we were during the ongoing project. What can I say? Truly a great company. Like other reviewers have said, if I could give more than 5 stars I would. Everyone who I worked with (Both Joseph's, Sarah, and the entire crew) Did an AMAZING job. My wife and I purchased a house which needed original oak floor refinishing as well as a floor extension to the new narrower hearth (we were remodeling the fireplace as well). The original Hearth was huge at 28 inches from the fire box and The Josephs and Crew made an amazing extension to the new narrower 18" hearth. They tied it in seamlessly to the existing floor and did the same amazing repair work tie ins in 4 other places in the house which had been ruined by pet stains. They also repaired shoddy sub flooring, installed new White Oak Flooring into the closets and now the transitions from the room floors to the closet floors are seamless and gorgeous. The Natural finish looks terrific and its hard to believe how much better the Entire house looks because of their work. They are truly honest gifted Craftsmen, you can't go wrong. I have to give my praise and thanks to the team at Sequoia...Dennis, Brian, Jose and the crew really came through with ABOVE AND BEYOND what was promised! Our hardwood floors look even better than when we first moved in 10+ years ago. Firstly, Dennis was of the most professional caliber of contractors I have ever had the opportunity to work with. Beyond his timeliness and expertise, he was polite, understanding and knowledgeable. The ability to trust Dennis gave us the motivation to move through with Sequoia, and we wouldn't have had it any other way. The job was completed from start to finish in the estimated time, and was probably the most headache-free experience we've had doing work on the home. Word to the wise--you get what you pay for; don't cheap out on hardwood floors, you'll end up paying more in the long run. I appreciated their honesty--what three other floorers cited as an area that would have to be replaced, Dennis took one look at and basically said "don't worry about it." He was absolutely right, and likely saved us a good amount of $$ on not having to redo an isolated area of bad flooring.
