I was really disappointed in the lack of service I received when I visited the Emeryville location yesterday. I went with my daughter mid-day and, granted, it was a pretty busy time. When we talked in the store, we had to pass through three associates just to get in the door. We were greeted by none of them. One glared at me and didn't speak. One looked with something resembling a smile on her face and the other ignored us completely. So far, we're off to a great start. We browse around for a few minutes before stopping an employee and asking if I could have a foundation match done. She and another associate discussed amongst themselves what products they thought I should use before telling me it would be about 10 minutes. My daughter and I strolled around the store trying on different items as well as gathering some of the other products I wanted to get. I could see the line getting longer at the checkout, but lots of employees were just standing around looking. After about 20-25 minutes, I went to try to find the associate who had told me 10 minutes but she was nowhere to be found. When I asked another associate, I got the brush off. I ended up putting back the products I wanted and leaving empty-handed and angry. While I can certainly understand that yours is a busy establishment that is often fast paced, I would encourage your associates to remember that they are there to help the customers who want to spend their money. If you can't help them, another acceptable response is to acknowledge the customer's presence and let them know you can't help. I had to just keep watching other people be helped like I was invisible. At the end of the day, my feelings were hurt, honestly. I wanted to go hang out with my little girl, play in some makeup, spend some money and have a good time. I was really bothered that in the 40+ minutes I spent at the store and the dozen or more associates I couldn't get to even look my direction, that I had to walk out empty-handed. Normally, I love everything about Sephora. But the service leaves a lot to be desired at the Emeryville location. P.S. *****LONG READ BUT A GOOD READ***** Oh boy why did I even bother coming here? I had a disgusting experience last I was here, but I happen to be in the neighborhood. I chanced it and was I in for it this time. 1. First of all you will be immediately profiled the minute you walk in the door. That alone is uncomfortable and it pisses you off especially if it's coming from your own people. 2. Immediately harassed. A tall curly haired feminine gentlemen that came from over by the fragrances towards the back of the store to stand against the wall (more towards the front) where I was headed. As i'm passing through he speaks. He didn't realize that I had watched him make his move. He's all "how's everything?" So I gave him the side eye. I'm like "I just entered the store, everything is fine". He immediately catches attitude and responds with "oh wow how was your day?" Lol, I can't make this up. I'm like my day was wonderful actually. Why would I been spending hundreds of dollars if it wasn't? Why are you coming from doing something else just to say something to me? Mind you I passed, what 3 ladies? One greeter at the door, another cleaning something and another helping some other women. 3. A Murad rep actually helped me locate an item. Not a Sephora associate but a lady who contractually works for Murad skin care. Imagine that! Of course I bought something from her line. 4. I believe they purposely left the sensors on my items just for me to go off at the door. I say that because when I went off at the door to my surprise the greeter told me that they had already told her via her ear piece that I might go off. I'm like excuse me? She said "I'm really sorry but I demagnetizer is down". So leave the censors on my high priced items even though you knew they would go off? And that makes sense and is good customer service right??? To have me going off at the door like a criminal? Needless to say the greeter kept apologizing and I left with my products, corporate, store and the general managers contact information. Then cashier refused to order me a product that was available online only (when I was told by an associate that's where I place my online order). I added another stars after I was able to speak to the manager who was super apologetic and sweet. And all the other associates (besides the overwhelmed & over worked cashier) were super helpful & nice! I hope they can get more staff and help to service their busy store!!! I will never shop at a Sephora again! I accidentally left my phone at the store on January the 24th. I came back 5 minutes after closing and knocked on the door. The group of workers just stared at me. So I knocked again making a sign about my phone. The manager finally came over where I plead my case that I left my phone there. She told me I need to come back tomorrow. She was rude and then yelled at me for "coming" at here. She would not give me her name when I asked. This has been the most unprofessional experience I have had with any store. I understand safety, but to tell me I have to come back the next day. This Sephora location was a big disappointment today. Visited early in the day and it was fairly empty. There were lots of staff on the floor wandering around asking repeatedly if they could help with anything. But what they weren't doing was any cleaning. The trash cans in the fragrance and makeup remover sections were all full, which means they hadn't been emptied the night before. There was smeared product on the floor and on the shelves, which indicates they hadn't mopped or cleaned the shelves since the previous day(s). The state of the tester products on the shelves was pretty gross. A broken lipstick was smeared on a shelf and I reached in before realizing it, getting lipstick all over my hands and then all over the products in my shopping basket. Overall it was just a gross experience. Felt like I was in a dirty teen's bathroom full of neglect and broken makeup. When there are enough staff wandering around with not much to do, they should be tidying up the shelves and making sure testers are stocked and in the right places. Costumer service is garbage, I came in on a weekend, wasn't greeted, no help around but they just mind their own business. Like "oh they should know what to do" instead of just making sure if anyone is doing alright. Prepare to be underwhelmed. This store is tiny. The stock in the shelves was disorganized and all over the place. You literally had to hunt for the color you wanted as well as messy, unclean. And the shelves are literally empty. All the products I specifically wanted to come into the store to buy were out of stock. I don't want to have to pay for shipping and shop online but its clear I need to go elsewhere for basic items that are supposed to be carried by Sephora. Recommend going to the Powell Store where they have a much better selection and the shelves are fully stocked. At least the sales associates were friendly and helpful. #43 Out shopping for a Valentine's Day gift for a friend. I went into Sephora to purchase some perfume for a friend. A lady greeted me at the door and I pulled the empty bottle of perfume out of my purse to ask her if they had this in stock. She glanced quickly at my bottle and pointed to the back of the store and said I could locate this item in the back, left corner at the fragrance area. I noticed she seemed a bit preoccupied watching a lady with a BIG red blanket who was picking things up and covering them up under her red blanket. I figured they were out to catch a their or something, so I wandered to the back of the store to locate my gift. As I was walking to the back I was having a bit of trouble locating the fragrance. A sales associate noticed my predicament and asked to help me. Thank you, I would be looking all day ;( She told me that I could order this particular fragrance online, but they did not carry it in the store anymore. meh ;( Well, none to worry, she said she would help me find something equal to or better than the fragrance I had. AWESOME! We looked a bit, smelled tons of smells, searched many cabinets until we found the perfect one. Yaya! I grabbed the bottle and headed to the checkout area. Strangely enough, the woman with the BIG red blanket was completing a transaction and heading out the door. I guess they were watching her for weird behavior, not shoplifting. When it was my turn at the counter, the service professional asked me if I was a Sephora rewards member. I replied, "Yes, but they look it up with my email address I think." He entered my info, told me I had amassed quite a few points and would I like to redeem them today. I thought, nah, I might save them for another time, maybe a rainy day or something. Ahhh! This Sephora is amazing. They have employees on every corner watching you like a hawk so they pretty much are ready to assist you as soon as they spot a confused look on your face. I came in on a weekend and as expected, they were busy! I came in, asked to see if they had what I needed, took a mental note of where it was located, did some shopping at other stores, came back, and was able to get what I needed and pay in under 5 minutes. Everything is neat and organized. Their employees were in a great mood despite how busy it was, and they had everything I needed. Bay area never fails me! I love Sephora! I can get lost in here for hours if I had enough time to do so. I'm not a makeup fanatic so I like how helpful the staff is at making sure you find what you're looking for. The perfume selection is endless as they've had every fragrant I needed. And I got my matte top coat nail polish here and fell in love! Not all nail salons have the matte top coat, so I suggest grabbing you a bottle from here and taking it with you to the nail shop. I wish the store was a little bigger in size so I don't continue to knock into people or yell out excuse me so they don't think I purposely bumped into them. Went in for foundation and ended up with a whole skincare line and new make up set. The ladies who helped me were not good but GREAT!! Marina in Makeup in the bomb.com; She was super knowledgeable about product, what was available, how the different products interacted together, complimented one another and so much more. She did the makeup IQ and was able to suggest and help me select the best suited makeup for my tone and skin type. Marina wasn't just product savvy but also very friendly, personable and kind. It's wonder I ended up with new primer, concealer, foundation, setting powder and more. Veronica in Skincare, isn't just a pretty face....she....is....AMAZING. A delight to talk with and very knowledgeable on product and skincare. She didn't just sell me product but really educated me on product, routine skincare in addition to specific skin care concerns such as acne. Talking to her felt very genuine and like talking to a friend. I really loved working with her and cannot say enough good things. Been to mall makeup counters, Sephora and ULTA a bunch of times but this was without any question the best experience I have ever had at any makeup counter or store. I came shopping this weekend at Bay Street, a little personal and a little christmas shopping for others. Sephora is always a fun stop for me, but my guy is overwhelmed by the smell inside. I can understand, yet glad he waited patiently while I popped inside. I purchased a gift card that comes with a free mirror compact (really nice) and a bunch of little stocking stuffer gift sets. Gurrl, the benefit little gift sets start at $12.00 and are a great deal, cost comparing to products bought alone. Smart shopping means I can get one for you and another for myself! Maika (I don't remember how to spell his name...so sorry!) was absolutely wonderful! He spent a lot of time helping me pick out the correct shade of make up. Maika was young but absolutely knew how to match the correct make-up for my skin tone and skin type. His professionalism shone through the entire time he spent with me. Two starts for location. And that's about it. I waited hella long to see one person willing to help me. All I wanted was some new foundation samples because I'm tired of my current formula. Some girl skin iq'ed me and then ran off never to be found. Dude on fragrance wall was so catty, never looked me in the eye so I couldn't even tell if he was talking to me. This wasn't shyness as I saw him having no problem speaking to his coworkers. I might as well had not asked because he squirted a sad, comic drop of foundation in each little plastic container and then THREW them in my basket, I had to catch half of them before they fell on the floor. Fast forward to cash wrap. He rings me up, I get my bi samples, and as I leave I ask him if he knows anything about Sunday Riley's Artemis/UFO oil. I get you're not in skin but all you said was "no", and stared blankly at me until I picked up and left. I would've asked the girl in skincare but she had also previously shrugged me off. Short version: there seems to be a huge disparity in quality of Sephora locations, always a result of bad store directors wanting best friends as leads instead of competent business-minded employees. There was no one in the store. I knew exactly what I wanted, and asked for it clearly. Yet somehow I was the problem. I took a lot of pride helping clients as a cast member many many moons ago, the beauty industry is about working with PEOPLE and if you can't you won't survive. Don't be like this guy. Make the trip across the bridge and visit the lovely folks at Powell or Union St. these stores have a lot more educators/reps/hungry young artists willing to actually put in the time and energy to make sure you leave happy. Had a fantastic skin care consultation today at Sephora Emeryville. The woman who helped me was knowledgeable, patient and kind. She provided me with the best customer service. I have not experienced this type of one-on-one service in years. She even went a step further and helped my daughter and digitally tested her skin type for her, which by the way was not done during a prior visit to the Concord store. If you need a skin care consultation please ask for Felia! She was great! She is 5 Stars all the way! I'm given my overall review of 4 stars because of the wait to get helped. Unfortunately, Felia is the only person that has skin care experience, which means no one else among the other 5 employees who were clearly NOT busy could help me, with the exception of the young lady that was at the register. She was very busy trying to take care of all the customers in line all by her lonesome. Bottom line, great service from Felia, but the store needs to hire another person to be on the floor to provide specialty consultations. This store also needs to hire additional cashiers. It did not make since to see one cashier working diligently to serve the needs of about 8 people in line all alone. Shame on you Sephora! read more

Prior to COVID, I was helped by an amazing employee named Autry. My intention was to write a review to shout-out his amazing customer service skills. By the time I was ready to write the review, the store was closed due to lockdown restrictions. While visiting the store the other day, I was helped me a cashier who was absolutely radiant and friendly. Since the employee was wearing a mask, I couldn't see their face but I asked whether or not their name was Autry. After they confirmed, I was soooooo excited! RATING: 4.5 stars Just like any Sephora, it was a good experience! I went in today as I was curious about a few products, such as Origins eye creams. While trying to figure out which eye creams I want to try, a worker came up and offered me her insights and gave me samples. Yay for samples! On top of that, I was interested in the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Makeup but didn't know my shade, so I asked a worker for help, and she gave me an ETA of 3 minutes. I expected her to forget about me to be honest, but she didn't! Phew! In fact, she stood there with me to try to figure out the best match for my face and neck and taught me some few tips about foundation. I love this store. I love walking in here and browsing around, and for the most part, I'm left alone to admire all the pretty colors. But my last visit was magical. I came in with my mangled eyebrows (see review of place that left me matching bald spots on my eyebrows). I was going to a wedding the following week. I didn't have time to wait for my eyebrows to grow back in. I walked up to the greeter, and told her I needed someone to help me find some way to mask my bald spots. I generally like a lighter eyebrow look, and I had no idea where to start. JJ (aka the other Jasmine) came over and helped me. She showed me several products that I could use, and how to use it, and I walked away with a super easy solution that was worth every penny. And the wedding pictures were saved! read more

I had to drive to the store a month ago (because their crappy app wouldn't work but it sure did charge me) to book a "full glam" 90 minute makeup application. Fast forward to prom day and I get a cancellation call 2 hours before the appointment. Don't worry though, you won't be charged a cancellation fee. Note to Sephora, probably better to have your most compassionate team member make these calls, not the one with the most attitude. read more

I don't wear a ton of it, nor do I parade around like a clown in a circus with wild colors and over the top application, but I do love make-up products and sampling the newest and coolest stuff. I love stopping by the Emeryville Sephora because it's just down the street from my office and because the salespeople are helpful, but not pushy. I could spend hours in this place and not feel pressured to buy anything (although I rarely walk out of Sephora without one or two items). Any makeup-wearing, hair-obsessed, self-proclaimed glam girl would attribute some of their beauty regimen to Sephora. I cannot think of an equivalent store with similar merchandise, which is on the pricey side compared to drugstore brands. I am a true believer quality (sometimes) justifying a hefty price tag. I had forgo using fancy hair products for a year but it was a terrible time for my hair. Every day was a bad hair day. And I trust their skincare items over anything from a local drugstore. They have a great return policy. You can return items that have been opened. I've tried products and didn't gotten a refund. That's great customer service. I'm also a "VIB" which rewards shoppers with perks such as semi-annual coupons and freebies. There's a spending threshold you must reach to get VIB. Beauty Insider points are accrued based on your spending in the store. The offerings for 100- and 500- point rewards change often, which is a great way to sample products, usually travel-sized version of new or popular products. It's a great place to try on products before investing beaucoup bucks. I never try them on my face but usually test them on my hand. You can ask for samples of any products to take home. Their beauty specialists will be happy to comply with your requests. They are a great source for advice and suggestions. I've had this problem where my favorite products get discontinued, and I'm left scrambling to look for replacements. The most difficult one was finding a similar under eye concealer. A great one was suggested to me by a beauty expert. It was even better than the one I previously loved so dearly. Their advice is definitely more valuable to me than reading reviews online, which can vary significantly. The specialists can effortlessly help you match colors to your skin tone to achieve that naturally flawless look. This particular location is on the small side. You can check on their website to locate a particular product to save you a trip. read more

Customer service is poor, no one will ask if you need help and will actually stand at the doorway and do nothing. This doesn't apply to every employee, just a selected few. But on a busy weekend, you'd expect people to be more proactive. At the Powell street location, there are sections at the end of each shelf that has dispensers for makeup remover, rubbing alcohol, cotton pads, etc. This location does not. They're all placed at the makeup station and gets crowded. They also have their trash baskets on the table (which doesn't hold much and overflows). Kind of gross. Came here to switch my Fenty Beauty Profilt'r Foundation. Colors 150-180 (excluding 160,170) were missing so I couldn't test much. A lot of the foundations (and other products) here were out of stock. And due to the popularity of this line, everyone was pushing and shoving to get their hands on something. Go to any Sephora except this one. Gets crowded, stock is low, and customer service is lacking. read more

They carry YSL products, so that was a plus. Not all Sephora stores carry this line. This location seemed to carry a lot more products in general compared to other Sephoras I've been to. Big selection of makeup brushes as well. Lots of fragrances, and the staff was friendly and helpful. This store has a view of the outdoors with the sun going into the store, so you can see what makeup looks like with the natural sunlight on you. Definite plus there because sometimes the store lighting in a strictly indoor Sephora can make makeup colors look off when you wear them outside. read more

I came in to redeem a beauty insider reward of a complimentary makeover (normally must buy $50 worth of products). Sheryl was my makeup artist. I am going to a bachelorette party and wedding next week, and I wanted to try a new look that I could play around with and practice with on my own. Sheryl was nice, but she spoke very softly. I liked a lot of the products she picked out--particularly the lip colors and the concealer she chose. I have shopped this Sephora for a very long time because it's the closest to me. I would say most of the time I'm helped and treated kindly but my visit today left me feeling a certain type of way. I like to test and look at the makeup in person before I make my purchase online with my Sephora card and also to take advantage of the free samples with your order. I was looking for lipglosses today and being that I'm older and have a hard time remembering things I take photos of the things I like and want to buy online. Anyways, today I couldn't tell who actually worked there since they don't wear the usually Sephora black and red uniforms I'm used to them wearing. I'd seen a shorter Hispanic woman approach me after maybe 10 minutes of being in the store and asked if I needed help which I said no thank you. I noticed this same woman in every section I was in for the rest of my visit which was another 20 minutes. I thought it was odd since usually I'm left alone when I'm in the store and have already been asked if I needed help. It rubbed me the wrong way. I know a lot people probably come in there and steal but I'm not one of those people and shouldn't be made to feel as if I'm being watched. I've seen this store go through a lot of employees so I know when I return in a few weeks that I'll see other folks working there so I'll continue to shop my products before I purchase them online at this store until the alameda location inside of Kohl's opens. read more

I didn't catch the Asian girl at the door with the long black hairs name but I think I might of heard people call her Jolene or Jolie not quite sure but she was RUDE RUDE RUDE. Not only did she treat me and any one else that asked for samples as a second class citizen but she simply filled up the sample and handed it to me without saying a word. No thank you no have a nice just an eye roll. My sister runs several retail chains in the San Francisco area and never have a seen an employee like this at one of stores. SEPHORA YOU HAVE A VERY BAD SEED AT YOUR EMERYVILLE LOCATION. I watched several other customers speak to one another concerning her horrible attitude. Two older ladies didn't even want to approach her for fear of being mistreated. And then to top it off I seen her racially profiling to Muslim black woman shopping with their daughters speaking to another employee about them possibly stealing. The woman ended up buying $600 worth of products so I hardly doubt they were stealing. I've had a really excellent person help me with make up here but yesterday I really didn't. I asked me be colored matched and the women who was helping me tried with a Sephora brand but I couldn't find my exact color. I asked her to match me with another and she took me to Nars but I said it was too expensive. She gave me a little bit of attitude and said something like "something for $14?? There's nothing for THAT price." And we wondered around the store until she saw a $20 one which was fine but she had such a hard time helping me find a cheaper brand for some reason. Look I'm a student, I try to scrape together some money to buy some make up every now and then. I like Sephora over drug stores because it's hard for me to find make up that matches me without buying the make up and having to return a bunch of times. But for her to make me feel bad about wanting something cheaper is really shameful. She has to have younger students or even full grown adults who don't have $25+ to drop on some concealer. Just be nicer and more understanding to those clients who don't have much money to spend on make up but still want something nicer than what drug stores can offer. read more

Love Sephora!! ... would love it more if they sell MAC products. I like this location because there's parking, its clean and it's not too busy. I have been going to this location ever since it opened and I noticed as the years pass, the reps became unfriendly and stares at you like you do not deserve to be there. I do not know if Sephora's policy has changed or not but all my recent visits to this location, I received no samples. I thought they probably have a price point for that but, there were many times I came to this location and I paid more than $100 and I received no free samples. Three stars because I can basically go around the store and try out products before I purchase it. Some reps are still helpful and friendly. Point is, Sephora needs to re-evaluate their employees. Even if your customers get to try your products prior to purchase, if your customer service is horrible, then you will lose customers. read more
