stopped in to buy product in person rather than online, thinking that i could test the colors in person, buy from a smaller retailer, etc. I had a short list of items I wanted to buy. One sales person was rather pushy, asking me way too many questions from the moment I entered the store. I wanted to look around at everything and take it all in, but she made me want to grab what I came in for and run. She complimented my eyes, then followed up with a sales pitch for an eye product. It was gross. You have to go through an employee to get your products, so I gave her my order only to find that when I got home 2 of the products were completely wrong (I asked for a highlighter but got a blush). Now I have to drive all the way back (about 30 min from home) pay for parking and enter that lion's den again. Not looking forward to it. read more

Went to Bluemercury in Berkeley and I was SO pleasantly surprised to run into Michele!!! She went out of her way to show me all these new products that I honestly didn't even know existed in cosmetics, and it was such an amazing and pleasurable experience that I had to write a yelp review--something I rarely ever do. Michele is so knowledgeable and is clearly a very seasoned salesperson, I can't think of a better person for her position. Her energy and excitement is engaging and totally contagious!! I'd let her run the whole company if it was up to me! She loves the products and was telling me all about the technology behind them which I always appreciate since there are seemingly infinite products to choose from. I have spent time in other Bluemercurys but this one is definitely the best and beyond cute. If you get a chance to come here, you will NOT be disappointed! LOVE these girls! I would always walk past this spot as I ambled down College Ave, but never walked in until I was looking for a solid lipstick for grad pics. Abby was so friendly and not at all pushy! She helped me try on different eyeshadows, lip liners, and lipsticks, and was very receptive to feedback. Together, we found the perfect lip combo! This lune + aster "strong" lipstick is my holy grail. It smells like vanilla and is super moisturizing. The color is gorgeous and matches my skin tone perfectly, even when I'm tan or pale! Abby has a real artist's eye for undertones, and I'm blown away by her customer service. I will be returning to Berkeley soon and will purchase another lipstick and liner! I literally have not bought any beauty products since getting this lipstick because it works with everything :) read more

The manager lady has some major attitude problem. I bought a $110 skinceutical product from their online store and received an expired product in a beaten up box. Their customer rep said I could exchange at the store, so I stopped by. I told the store clerk I wanted an exchange, and somehow they misunderstood that I wanted a refund. Once they understood I wanted an exchange, somehow the store manager woman got really pissed off (why???) and practically threw a new box of product at me with such a terrible attitude, like I wasted her time??? Geez. I spend more money than I should on high-end skincare products, but they sure will never get my money ever again!!!! read more

I've been a customer for a few years and almost always happy but the reason I've come to write this review is because my recents trips to the store went way beyond my expectations! There are two new young ladies that are just so knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Mahassin, one of the two ladies that I worked closely with during my last two trips, went above and beyond to understand what I'm looking for and helped me with choosing the right products. I hope I spelled her name right, and if you happen to work with her just ask her what her name means because that's how and who she is too. My last review was 2 years ago so it felt time for an update: Skincare fans: get to Blue Merc for your full-on pampering with Dr Sturm products (or other products of your choice). Big thanks to Johnny, Lisa & Smaeerah for all the attention and education on the product line. They were able to address my "hyper-special needs" skin, answer all my questions and recommend a simple routine that even I can follow. 5-star staff, service & products. I made an appt the day before for a complimentary consultation and was given the red carpet treatment. Highly recommend the "call in advance" approach even though not necessary it helps the staff prepare for your visit while you can prepare for extreme pampering! Also - there's never any pressure to make purchases and they are generous with free samples. Sephora can't get close to this level of service. I also won't miss the Bloomies counter after today's visit to Blue Mercury on College Ave. read more

My sister and I went in here this morning since we were in the neighborhood and wanted to check it out. We walked in and the staff was incredibly helpful and so kind - a lovely woman named Emily spent about thirty minutes with us going over various products and skincare routines, and she was really honest when I asked about certain trends like a double cleanse. There were a few products I was curious about but didn't want to purchase just yet, so she sent both my sister and I home with a few small samples of what we looked at, as well as a few other things I bought. They have some of my favorite brands there, so it's nice to know I can go there to get things instead of ordering them online. Overall, a super positive experience - I don't look like someone who is in to makeup or skincare, so I tend to get ignored in stores like these, but not this one. Great atmosphere and I really liked how I could sample the skin care to see how all the products applied, what they smelled like, and compare what goes best with my skin. They even offered to give me samples to take home to see how I liked them before committing, which I though was really nice. The store was fully stocked and very clean. I'd definitely say it's a BIG step up then going to Sephora or Ulta (without being a step up in price either). All of the staff was really kind and helpful too! read more

Never heard or knew about Bluemercury before, but since there's one so close to me and I needed to restock on some men's hair and skin items I googled them and saw that they had a wide range of products for both women and men, and listed the items I used. This Bluemercury is a pretty good beauty store, especially for women's products. The sales associates were really friendly and helpful and greeted me right away when entering but couldn't really help me. Although there are a ton of women's beauty and skincare products, the store's options for men is lacking. I'm surprised there weren't many men's options for anything because the website had a ton of options (although it didn't have a feature to show stock at specific stores the way both Nordstrom and Sephora's websites are able to). It didn't seem to be a stocking issue though, as I saw online I could order it, but the space just doesn't really have a solid men's section. I'm guessing a small men's section was sacrificed probably due to space constraints, as the store is fairly small (the Berkeley Sephora on Fourth St. is about double the size of this store). Other than that, the small store is bright and clean. If you're a guy or maybe a woman looking for a specific/niche brands, you're probably better off going to a larger beauty store. read more
