I'd initially booked a microneedling session with Annie but a few days before my appointment, my skin had what I thought was an allergic reaction so I called to reschedule, but was asked if I wanted to just come in for a free consultation instead. I did go in to consult with Annie on my reaction and she advised that I likely had eczema, which I've suspected for awhile but have been in denial about...lo and behold, my doctor later confirmed it was indeed eczema (!). Annie provided some really helpful product suggestions to help calm my symptoms (thank you, Annie!). Once my skin felt and looked better a few weeks later, I eventually went in for a microneedling session with Stephanie, who was also fantastic! I went to Mosaic Skin in Oakland for a HydraFacial and had such a great experience. There's plenty of parking in the back, and the whole environment feels calm and welcoming. Sydney was gentle, knowledgeable, and so kind throughout the entire treatment. As a woman of color with textured skin, I'm always careful with facials, but they really understand how to take good care of your skin here. Not sure where to start because this place hits all the marks for a med spa. Steph (founder of Mosaic) has been keeping me looking fresh for years. Her indetectable injectables are truly remarkable and you will never come out with a botox glow or frozen face. I was very excited to visit her new storefront in Oakland. Atmosphere: Absolutely beautiful inside. It isn't a sterile environment with sad, millenial gray and doesn't give off Stepford wife vibes. You feel like you are at a rich, warm, desert retreat with foliage blended in. A lot of thought was put into the design of this place and it truly shows - the tunes they play are great too and there is a nice coffee/tea/water bar for before/after treatment. The rooms are nice and relaxing and the sheets on the beds make you want to sleep for days. Staff: Front desk staff - lovely, professional, friendly, helpful. Coming to a med spa can feel daunting, but the front desk staff are so welcoming, and it is much appreciated. Services: the most important part! Steph - for your injectables, she is the OG. She has been doing this for many years and came from a clinical background. I trust no one else with my face - you can't tell I tox my 11s because of her excellent work, and she also made a significant crease in my forehead disappear as a result of her work and recommendations. Subtlety of botox is key to a natural look and an indication of the mastery of the injector. Steph nails this in both categories. Now, for facials...SUMMER IS YOUR GIRL. I do not love facials, but Summer made me a believer. As a clinician, I appreciate when I am walked through treatment steps, and she delivered. She explained the purpose of each product and even went into the science of how it improves your skin. I also appreciated how thorough she was with her routine. She also walked me through how to layer my skincare routine at home as well :) One of the biggest things that stood out was that she was not pushy with products (most facials I have had in the past do this, which is probably why I do not like them)....but, Summer did not do this. She focused on treating my skin and asked if I wanted recommendations, what my main concerns with my skin were, and I will be taking her recommendations, 100%. I have now found an esthetician that I can trust, and that statement is not made lightly. And, I left with a coveted glow on my skin that lasted for days. Thank you! I normally check Yelp reviews before throwing down stacks of cash at any business, but for some reason, I didn't do so with Mosaic before booking a series of three peels last year. I just inherently trusted Stephanie from the start. We met when the business had just opened and I stopped to read the menu of services. She just opened the door and we talked. Stephanie is extremely knowledgable not only about the devices and services she has, but also the pluses and minuses of those which she does not have (often because they aren't optimal for skin of color). The studio is also cozy and light-filled. Also, their pricing is extremely transparent - all prices are on their booking page, which I love. I sought out care with Annie for my skin that has long been neglected. I am Korean and naturally born with fair skin however, I have tanned (naturally) all my life without using sunscreen *insert Korean mom dirty looks and scolding.* As a result I am not only very tanned, but have moles, sunspots and the beginning of aging lines as well. I was also diagnosed with Ancanthosis Nigracan, have dark, thicker patches of skin on my neck, underarms areas. I also have skin tags that needed to be taken care of. I've known that I needed to care for my skin for a very long time however I wanted a doable routine. As for my dark skin and skin tags, I felt too embarrassed in the past to seek help.
