Loved my 60-min therapeutic massage with Kristy. She was truly gifted in helping me relax and feel at ease -- I don't get massages regularly, but everything she did was perfect and I was able to truly let go. She even gave me tips for my piriformis syndrome, and was very gentle and conscientious around my (now discovered to be) rotator cuff injury. I was really impressed with her knowledge and advice on some of these longstanding issues. I also for some reason thought I saw reviews mentioning her (maybe it was Rachael instead? I was a little confused booking online because each masseuse had different rates. I called and they made me a profile and booked me. I went to KRISTY and she was soooo goood omg. She litterally massaged me like noone before even my stomach. The staff is so sweet. They even have a relaxation room where you can hang before leaving which I sat and drank my tea. Tbh got a blowout here once was good but I set another appointment and couldn't make it in cause of work they tried too charge me 239$ for the cancellation but was not told I would be charged that much for missing an appointment tbh 50$ is understandable after I tried to tell them for a lower price cause I was not informed of that information when I set my appointment and also my card too be removed off files I had not gotten a response horrible communication skills and was trying to charge my card 1-4 times at 10 pm..? read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Made an appointment, woke up really sick and called to let them know as soon as they opened. Well if you get sick make sure you know 24hrs in advance because if you don't they charge full price! I guess they would rather you go in and get them and any other clients sick as well. Returned with my husband after getting gift certificates. Masseuse - Rachael? - walked into the room a full 15 minutes late. That's 15 minutes of a one hour massage, so a quarter of it. No apology. Didn't ask any questions about pain, my body, tension, injury. Started pushing my limbs in all sorts of directions. When it hurt, I flinched - you know, that thing you do when something hurts. She exhaled loudly as if annoyed, and then continued pushing. At some point during the massage, she was pinching with just one hand. When I looked up, she was CHECKING HER PHONE. Whaaaat?? Unprofessional at best, rude and refund worthy at worst. I do not know why I came back to this place, will not make that mistake again. read more

Thanks to ClassPass, this is how I found out about Rockridge Day Spa. Parking can be a bit tricky but I normally park down a residential street close by here. I've been here twice now for a mini express signature facial. I had the owner, Elizabeth, the second time I went and it was fabulous! She was super friendly and really knows her skincare. They had a game going where I ended up winning a 50% off all skincare items if I purchased them that day. I didn't think I'd use it but once my facial was done, I pretty much purchased everything Elizabeth used on my skin. Can't beat the deal and my skin has looked phenomenal since purchasing these skincare items. I like that Elizabeth didn't try to push any sales and kept it real when I asked a few other questions about the items they sold skincare wise and how they worked. The staff I encountered were very nice and they greeted me with tea, but the massage itself was among the most mediocre ones I've had. I was a little ticklish, and the masseuse kept stopping and waiting, seemingly waiting for me to relax. I've never had a masseuse take such long breaks in the middle of a massage; I would have preferred that she move on to parts that are less ticklish, like my arms and legs or head. She also did this gentle but weird finger tickling thing (kind of like scratching, but with the tips of her fingers) on my neck and behind my ears, and also massaged my ears, both of which were more annoying than pleasant. Had an amazing facial. Mikala was fantastic. So good at what she does. The only odd thing that's had nothing to do with her is that we were told they had a "zen room" which sounds lovely. However the room was tiny and you could hear everyone in the hair salon talking and there were just two small veritable benches to sit on so it was not very comfy. If they made a few small changes in terms of seating I think it would be a nice space. read more

Every time I leave, I feel like a million dollars, and it looks like I went on vacation and got my groove back! Whenever I ask Isis for skincare recommendations, she's never pushy or tries to oversell me. It's always what I need, and then the compliments come! The massages are fantastic and highly recommended! They knead out tension in places I didn't know could hold on to so much! I recently went in for Botox and a touch of filler with Diana, and WOW! She talked and walked me through the whole experience, didn't pressure me, and answered all my questions. The results impressed me and were precisely what I requested from Diana! It's always a good morning on massage morning. I have been coming to Rockridge Day spa for many years for massage, mostly because it's down the hill so I can walk there. There's nothing worse than having to drive after a relaxing massage. I have tried many of the masseuses here in the past, but as they are transient, my current masseuse of choice is Torreyana, who I am happy to say has been at the location for a while. The massage prices are boutique but worth it if you find the right masseuse. For me, I like really hard massage and torreyana knows how to balance the firm pressure with excellent techniques. I find myself falling asleep once or twice in the 90 minute session. The space is clean and the music is relaxing. There is a little unit for hot towels. The massage bed is heated and there is option for space heater if it is a cold day. They offer different lotion sense if you like. My masseuse also offered additional add-ons like CBD or foot scrubs. You just have to write it in the notes when you are making the appointment. I like that they have massage series (or series in whatever other kind of beauty services you desire ) which you can buy. If you can afford to pay upfront, the pack of 10 is cheaper and forces you to make those appointments to take advantage of the series! Unfortunately, they no longer have the series online so you have to call in or do it in person for whatever reason. Other services you can book online. The new front desk staff is very friendly. I wasn't impressed with previous ones so now it is more of a pleasure to go in. If you are early, they will offer you a drink and you can browse their boutique or sit on the stools or the bench outside. Be careful though because the outdoor bench has a hole don't fall in! I have tried their hair services as well, but did not continue as I don't like to sit there for hours unless it's a massage and I didn't vibe with the hairdressers at the time, which makes the time go slower. There are several treatment rooms downstairs and upstairs. There are two restrooms, one downstairs in the back and one upstairs. You can hear things going on outside of your massage room, but it is muffled. I usually go on weekday mornings, so it is quiet. After your massage, you can take your time getting up and check out with the front desk person. They will ask if you want to make your next appointment. I usually go back home and check my calendar and do it online instead. You can also add your tip to the credit card on file so you don't have to take anything with you. One time the machine was down and I didn't have my card but I was able to use Apple Pay on my phone. It is an easy walk from Rockridge BART or you can pay for metered Street parking or free residential parking. If you join their mailing list or check their social media, you will find out about special parties like the Botox parties, and giveaways. On yelp if you check in, you'll get a free travel sized item. They also had this promotion in person when you spun the wheel one time. You will get a text to fill out the massage form every time that you book a massage but you don't have to do that every time. Just the first time. You'll also get a reminder. I do not answer my phone so they text or email me instead. read more

So bummed about my experience at this spa after 3 opportunities (2 for me and 1 for my husband) to get our facials right. My initial facial was an okay experience but I had a hunch that my esthetician was on her phone for a portion of our time together as there were long quiet pauses. Instead of performing a hand or arm massage when my mask was settling, she was texting/scrolling as I could periodically hear her nails against her phone screen. I left being a bit upset but my skin looked amazing so I didn't complain and decided to send my husband to see her a few months later. I was hoping that my first experience was a fluke and he would have glowing skin like I did when I left the spa that day. After he returned from his facial his skin looked great so I booked another appointment for myself. Unfortunately, I again had the same experience with her continuous phone use. At one point she was massaging my head with two hands and one hand dropped so that she could be on her phone. I was so frustrated and felt disrespected that she wasn't being present in our time together. I then realized that it was unsanitary for her to go back and forth between touching her phone and touching my face without washing her hands. When I returned home I told my husband about the experience and his response was, "yeah, there actually were a bunch of long awkward pauses during my treatment". The spa sent me a feedback survey the next day, which I promptly completed. It has been over two weeks and no one has reached out to me to follow up on my experience. Honestly I have been going here for a little over a year and always got amazing haircuts from Daniella. I recently went on May 1st only to find out that Daniella no longer works there. I had already prepaid for my haircut and did not want to pay the $55 cancellation and chose to get my haircut by the available stylist. Not only did she veto everything i asked for, i.e. i asked for 3-4 inches off and she said no because summer was coming up and i would want long hair, or when i asked for my bangs to end at my cheekbones and said i was "brave" for asking for that. I knew my haircut was uneven as she was cutting but she reassured me that she would finish the cut after she dried my hair. She then proceeded to ask how i wanted it dried and i said a traditional blowout and she stated she could blow dry it straight and then curl it with an iron but as a "professional" hairstylist, how do you not know how to do a blow out. I recently straightened my hair and realized just how choppy and uneven my hair was left. Genuinely one of the worst haircuts i have ever received and it's not like I went to a cheap salon either, their starting prices for a cut and blow out at $89. The people she chose to work for her are so friendly and professional. I felt super taken care of with patience and care. The atmosphere is elevated with luxurious decor, natural lighting and cozy blankets for the rainy, cold days. I received a hybrid eyelash extension with fantasy colors of pink. She really listened to my needs, provides knowledge, & a very calming & intentional experience (i.e. I always wondered why there aren't rugs on the floor in the massage rooms, but she lays down a towel so your feet aren't absurdly cold after your relaxing massage). I came in with chronic neck & back pain. It had built up for many months since my last massage & was starting to effect my legs & arms. But I left feeling immense relief after my 1 hour massage - probably more so than I had after nearly any other massage I've had. My kinks were either gone or loose enough to work themselves out on their own in the upcoming day or 2, which is rarely the case since I have so much body tension.  I have also had great experiences with skin & hair services (Brandi, Linda, Stevie & Dumindra). Yesterday was my first time going to this spa. I tried going last weekend, but my appointment was canceled (by them) at the last minute and rebooked for yesterday. I had a brow lamination done. During the treatment, I asked if a burning sensation was normal, and the person treating me said yes. I was a bit skeptical but decided to trust her judgment as the expert. I had to tell her I felt INTENSE burning more than twice during treatment, and she wiped some of the excess product but it didn't make much of a difference. After almost 24 hours, all the skin around my eyebrows looks extremely red and burned, and even contact with water is painful. I suspect this is a chemical burn. She gave me a cream to put on, but applying it is equally painful vs. calming. The whole area is VERY red, very sensitive right now, and very visible. Not sure what went wrong, I've had this same treatment done twice at a different place, and I never had such reaction. The technician was very nice and professional, so I won't share her name here, I just hope she can learn from this. This is just unacceptable and very disappointing. read more

Worst spa experience I have ever had. First clue should have been that they had me sign a release relieving them of responsibility of damage they may cause. Like, first thing. The person doing the waxing literally ripped the skin off of my face. Not just once and "oops" sorry, but 6 times. Meaning, six 3-5 inch strips of skin were taken off of my face. I had a 90 minute massage, and i use the word massage loosely. Ive been getting roughly 4 massages/year for the past 8 years, and decided to try Rockridge Day Spa. This was by far the worst massage I have ever had in my entire life. I am concerned that my massage therapist isn't actually a therapist or isnt certified, because she didnt work on any of my muscles or knots. She simply rubbed my back and my body. Legit, firm rubbing. Didnt even touch my upper back and shoulders, which is where i indicated on the intake form, that those were my problem areas. I also verbally shared this with her. Aside from long and short strokes on my back and legs, she pushed on pressure points on my neck. I didnt even get a proper hand or foot massage. I'm pretty sure anyone else could watch a YouTube video and give a better massage than what I got- and spent $179 for. I called the spa to speak to the manager- not even to complain, but to share my experience and urge them to work with this therapist to get more training. The manager, Liz, wasnt available but said she would call me back in about an hour. No call back. So i called the next day to speak to her, she wasn't available, so.i left another message and was told she would call me back later in the day. NO call back. Apparently they aren't concerned with giving decent massages or customer service. read more
