One of the store associates Lily matched me with the recommended products to achieve my targeted makeup preferences (natural/no-makeup-makeup look). This review is for the makeup artist Narry... I paid for the $90 full glam makeup for a black tie event. I shared inspo pics of soft brown smokey eye makeup with a glowy face base. I explicitly asked for soft brown, not black, and I also asked for lashes with an invisible band. Instead, what I got was a horrible 2015 style dramatic drag queen style - dark Smokey eyes with a white base and sharp crease lines - and thick black liquid eyeliner, that looked nothing like the soft brown makeup inspo picture. She tried to fix it by adding bronzer to my eye lids The lashes she used on me had a thick visible band that looked even more horrible against the thick black eyeliner. The Foundation and concealer Narry put on my face was 3 shades too light for my skin color. She added more bronzer after the fact but no amount of bronzer could save it. Narry made me look absolutely terrible with drag queen eyes and too light foundation. I ended up going straight home and washing my entire face and re-doing my makeup - thus rushing to my black tie event. Lesson: do not book makeup appt with MUA Narry at this Sephora. read more

Please beware of the makeup/ultimate glam services offered here. I went for my baby shower and received the following as a present. Despite booking my appointment three weeks in advance, they called and emailed me to cancel my 'ultimate glam' session due to a staff call-out. A manager named Jessica called me and offered to have a seasoned, as she described them in her voicemail, 'highly skilled and trained' brand artist from Makeup Forever do my makeup. I arrived 10 minutes late because I went to the wrong Sephora location--there are two at South Coast. When I arrived, I connected with my makeup artist, who assured me she had 18 years of experience in the industry. I expressed my preference for a full glam, heavily contoured, and bronzed look, sharing my own inspiration picture. Since I was busy helping with my shower, I didn't check my makeup until later. Despite the complimentary services, the results were disappointing. I didn't have any of my makeup with me, and my lashes fell off within 30 minutes. There were patches of missing makeup. What was worse, associates lied, complimenting my makeup as 'baby shower ready,' which was far from the truth. I booked an early morning (8:45 am) full face makeup at Sephora South Coast Plaza. I want to look presentable to a funeral I'm attending to at lunchtime. Came here on a busy Friday evening and Shane helped me. Shane came to me right when I was giving up on looking for a new foundation. They found what I was looking for. Givenchy makeup never even crossed my mind! Turns out foundation/skincare is just what this girl in her late 30's needs. Givenchys powders are amazing as well! Gone are the days of matte foundations and drying powders. Shane also found my color so quickly and it is literally the best match I have ever gotten! I have olive skin tone with some rosacea so I find it difficult to get a good color match. Also because my skin is on medium/ darker side, it's hard finding a foundation that doesn't oxidize and turn me orange as the day passes. I typically don't wear makeup but I have my wedding coming up and needed makeup advice ASAP. Andy came up to me and offered the best customer service! TLDR: Jonathan is such a sweetheart! He went way above and beyond with helping me on two occasions. Cris was also great with helping me try different perfumes based on my preferences. HERE WE GO: I've had credit card issues since October 2020 and it's the most annoying thing. I lost my credit card in the mail after my application process, so I was actually fined around $80 I think...got that waived to an extent by Comenity, the banking service, but I think I still owed $15 or $20 for the issue. Really peeved by that because it wasn't my fault. Anyways, because I "missed" my first payment, even though I wasn't my fault, my credit card was put on a freeze til March. Extremely frustrating cause I do most of my shopping from Sephora during their seasonal promos, esp around Christmas. So basically I lost out on all the 8% back promos; 4-5% back for general Sephora use (I wouldn't know cause I generally don't reap the benefits). Sephora has sent me a couple replacement credit cards but none of them work still. It's May 2021, past the reassured March date of when my card won't be frozen..Jonathan was so sweet and he extended himself, offering to call into comenity on my behalf. I hate calling comenity...I was on the phone with them for 30 mins on 2 occasions prior, so it was really amazing that he'd be willing to bite the bullet for me. He also gave me some samples to compensate for my time and troubles, which I thought was very kind. Overall, huge store. Getting samples made in the past would be a pain but now that samples aren't a thing, and covid is in place...the store is bustling but not overwhelmingly busy. It's nice to be able to leisurely shop at a Sephora. Testers are now accessible too! Side note: I spent a lot last year and was hoping to really save my points as a Rouge member, but all their complimentary perks for in store makeovers etc got removed. You have to pay for the service now. I'm not sure if spending so much will be worthwhile at Sephora anymore. You can get a lot more gifts at Nordstrom and Macy's...they didn't really do that many rouge or vib promos til the beginning of this year. Touching someone without permission is rude! She told me to buy Nudestix only, and that everything else is bad for you because nudestix is "European clean". I've never hear of this brand & had no interest in the product at all. After googling the brand & giving a fair chance, their products are not made in Europe! They a Canadian brand that supports Donald Trump! She also insulted me by saying I have creases around my face, need something anti aging & put a box of skincare items in my basket without permission. I felt so frustrated & bullied. This is one of the largest Sephora locations closest to me and they offer a variety of brands and products under one roof. Located on the first floor by Bloomingdales and across from Corner Bakery, you can park in a surface lot or the nearby structure for easy access. During the current events, the staff have done a great job with handling safety precautions. All of them are wearing masks and they have clear floor markers to indicate 6 ft/2 m social distancing. Testers are not available at this time, except for staff to swatch on their skin to show you a product. They also limit the number of people in the store at a time, but they do a great job with handling the line. The staff who allow and limit customers inside are all very friendly and happy to answer questions. I've gone in for a few times to look for holiday gifts that I needed to give/safely hand off to friends. The team have been helpful each time I asked for recommendations or had questions. Sometimes the stock is low in things or I've noticed a few products that have sun protection in them are close to expiration or are expired. I'm guessing the latter has to do with the fact that this location was closed for months during the worst of the pandemic and unfortunately, they are starting to get around to removing the expired items from the shelves. (I had to return a lip balm with SPF in it and the girl took it back with no questions. She made a note to check the other units out on the floor and apologized for the inconvenience.) If you prefer to not shop in store or wait for items to ship, this location does order pick-up. They have a separate line for those picking up their orders and you need to show your order number either on your phone or printed out, along with a government-issued ID. They have a shelf with the orders and someone will grab your order for you, then you'll pay for the order, before going on about your day. read more
