Miss pink hair was in a bad mood today when I asked her if she can apply the online and in-store 20% coupon to my item I was told by pink hair this item was NOT part of the promo..hmmm Now tell me how I went online after I made my purchase only to see that YES IT DOES QUALIFY for the 20% discount online. Not even leaving the parking lot, I walked right back inside to return the item and was told quickly and strategically that I was not able to return any items that left the store and I can only get a gift card. Go figure. (Btw nothing on their website says this) To me, this is terrible business. Ulta and Sephora would never do something like this to their customers. This review is for the makeup artist Sarah. I was referred to her by a friend to have my makeup done for my wedding. I made an appointment, and we got started right on time. She asked me what I wanted. I told her I am very simple, just wanted to have a very clean look, no heavy eye makeup, some sort of red lip color, and most importantly, NOT to turn red from the heat that day. When I get hot or flustered I turn into a tomato, so I needed her to make sure that would not occur. It took about an hour for her to do my makeup. She is really sweet and fun to talk with. She didn't mind that my friend tagged along and we all chatted together as I got my makeup done. I absolutely loved my makeup, it was beautiful! I never wear anything more than powder, and most of the time just moisturizer, so I am not used to having makeup on. But it felt light and I couldn't even tell all day that it was on. Most importantly, it stood up all day. Never turned red, never needed to reapply anything, even the lipstick lasted from noon until I got home around 9 PM. If you need to have your makeup done, I highly recommend making an appointment with Sarah! read more

Great Customer service and quality products! After 26 years of no make-up, it was finally time learn what and how to use beauty products! The assistant was incredibly helpful when showing me products and suggesting where I should use certain products and how I should apply them. I walked in a lost puppy and walked out with a bag of makeup and confident that I could finally apply it correctly! I had one assistant walk me through the store showing me all these bronzers, eye liners, shadows, and blush. It was so incredibly helpful and I looked professional at the video shoot I had last week. The products they suggested are all very high quality and after 2 weeks of using them, I am very satisfied! I think this may be the first location of the company--I have shopped here for well over 20 years. The product selection is amazing in every category. Well displayed, nice natural light. But one of the main reasons I go is the service. The longtime manager, Cindy Serrano, is the best of the best. Always upbeat, can answer any question and truthfully. She will help you find what you need. Outstanding product knowledge and so personable. Great reflection on ownership to hold onto someone valuable like Cindy. Came in here to buy hand lotion and check out the clearance section. The Indian lady here was super rude. She asked me not to touch the hand lotion super rudely. There was no sign ANYWHERE saying not to try the tester for Caudalie hand lotion. I was taken aback and felt somewhat segregated. This store wreaks racism and off putting attitudes. Spare me the platitudes since I USUALLY shop at ULTA and SEPHORA where I'm treated with much better care. She didn't even fucking ask me for my account. I emailed you guys to update my information, and was told it could only be done at a store. These employees are so UNHELPFUL! My goodness so disappointed! Cutting corners with my hair regimen (including at-home drug store coloring) due to budgetary constraints has left it dry, dull, and falling out in clumps in the shower due to severe breakage. Corner cutting is officially over: I had an actual dream last night involving Davines conditioner being on sale. (My roommate brought home gigantic tubs of it since it was on sale and told me to help myself). I was pulling into the Planet Beauty shopping center to grab a sandwich and fortuitously noticed a "By 1 Get 1 50% off sign" in the Planet Beauty window. REJOICE! Wow, dreams really do come true!!! Halle-f-ing-lujah. I parked and entered. Angels started to sing. Sahar (a sales associate) greeted me after a few minutes, and was quite sympathetic to my plight. She was SUPER nice and incredibly helpful. She provided much appreciated information regarding the new Oi line from Davines, which I can not wait to freaking try. She also recommended Furterer Gel Defrisant, AVA protective hair-oil treatment, and a special clip to prevent further damage and breakage. They have a huge selection of flat irons, hair coloring (Sahar also recommended J.F. Lazartigue for at-home color if I ever decide to do that again!), hair clips, all types of mani-pedi goodies, gigantic selection of nail polish, make-up, and mid- to high-end hair and skin products. Lots of good little gifts too! I left with a huge pile of swag and saved almost 75 dollars! I even got to pick out a free polish. Much better experience than I had a few years ago. I normally don't write bad reviews however I've been so frustrated these past couple of days by my recent experience to this Newport Planet Beauty location. And to find out Planet Beauty is a local company here in Newport makes me even more disappointed. I walked into the store on Tuesday afternoon to pick up my favorite Kerastase shampoo/conditioner. I was greeted by a older blond woman. I asked her about the different types of Kerastase shampoos- specifically one style and what type of hair this is best for - and she says to me, "it's on the fine print." Later on in my experience I mentioned that I found a coupon online for 15% off and would they honored that in the stores. Just so we are clear, I'm the only customer in the store. She responds to me saying, "And did you read that it says online only." I would think that especially during this time that employees would be more friendly and most importantly generous with their knowledge and customer service. We all have a choice of where we get to shop. I love supporting local shops. However my experience with this location was rude and unprofessional. I was a raving fan and a loyal customer- up until now. I went home and went to the Kerastase website and bought over $150 worth of products - oh and the great news is I received 20% off. There are plenty of other stores to buy beauty products I would not recommend this location. read more

WOOHOO!! I've been looking for clip on bangz for about a year and a half and this is the ONLY place I have found that has them. Other places it wasn't really hair or had an awful selection of colors. It's real hair and $50! Haha I know it sounds silly, but I've been looking for these suckers for such a long time that I was just so excited to find them at Planet Beauty, Newport Beach. It's just for fun without the commitment of cutting your own hair.. and worse!! That awful, awkward growing out bangs period. Other than that, I'm in love with this place because they have an amazing selection of products and brands that is sometimes hard to find such as: kiehls, jurlique, éminence, and so much more!! Just so many brands and products, I'm in product heaven. They have a salon in the back which is pretty cool and something I haven't seen. This location just has great inventory. I'm not sure what it is about this specific location but every time I come here I have some type of customer service issue. This visit, I was asking for advice on a hair product from an employee who basically told me in the middle of our conversation to hold on so she could go help another woman. The other woman said she was on her lunch break. FYI- I was also on my lunch break. Then, as I had my credit card out to make a payment (another employee was checking me out), the same woman came up to me and made a few recommendations, which I was super grateful for. She said she would show me the brand super quick so I followed her, with my card still out because I had been ready to insert it into the card machine. As she gave me the product, she ran back to the counter and started to help another woman in front of me while my transaction was still showing on the credit machine waiting for my payment, even though she knew I was following to the same counter to finish my transaction. While waiting at the counter, it appeared their conversation was going to take some time, so I stepped up and said, let me just finish my payment, and went to enter my card. The employee said no, she had already started a different transaction. At this point, I felt I had no option other than to say cancel it because I had to get back to work. I left my $110 purchase sitting in the bag. There are too many other business where I can purchase the exact same brands and have better customer service experiences. Up north ULTA & Sephora are my go-to stores when it comes to MUA products and services. Our beauty advisor, Maria, welcomed us to Planet Beauty from the moment of entry. She was --and is--knowledgeable with all beauty related things from eyelash serums, derm (skin) creams and makeup tips that really bring you up to speed with the beauty community. I like how this shop gives a boutique feel and even offers beauty services for those of us that want the Extra polish/umph for the weekend. Great customer service and smiles in the OC are rare to come by, given that most of LA is pretentious and snobby... I didn't get that during my time @ Planet Beauty with Maria. My boyfriend just bought a hair dryer which a staff recommended him and i found out it is way too heavy and pricey. Absolutely he didn't know more than me about hair dryer. What staff told him was it is very famous dryer like Dyson... I called the store right away to get refund. No Refunded. It didn't take even 20mins that he bought that product. Very Nice! It was very easy for the staff to sell $200 dryer to him. They never mention no refund. It says on the receipt. Only important to sell that stupid dryer. Very lucky that only he went there. I have been shopping at this location for about one year due to my Vitiligo skin disorder has spread and now I have discoloration on my face. Therefore, I found Dermablend. It covers well, and, therefore, when I need to purchase more this is the store I choose. I originally shopped with Susie Melara who I understand is now in a new position within Planet Beauty. Miriam was personal, friendly and professional. I enjoyed working with her to make my purchase of several Dermablend products, OPI nail polish, Blush brush and Laura Geller Blush. Again, I appreciate her communication and knowledge of products. She asked about what kind of shampoo I use and made suggestions for future reference. This location in particular is great because they sell individual Sigma brushes and not all Planet Beauty locations do. They also sell Blinc Amplified mascara, so I don't have to order it online from Sephora anymore since Sephora only carries the regular one in store. They have a great selection of products that are sometimes hard to find at most places and carry an array of scents from my favorite Voluspa candle line. Staff was actually very friendly and helpful to me so I did not experience bad customer service as other had. read more

I happen to be in the area and in the market for new hair products! Walked right in and was immediately greeted by Debbie, she was super friendly and eager to assist me. I explained I was in the market for a quality dry shampoo and desperately in need of some moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Debbie proceeded to ask more questions about my hair type before recommending products which I truly appreciated. I decided on Colure's volumizing shampoo to add volume and a little extra body to my baby fine hair and Colure's moisturizing conditioner. Debbie assured me the conditioner would not weigh my hair down and she fully guaranteed an exchange for another product if I wasn't satisfied. Wait, you struck a cord at "exchange" not refund??? So although not widely advertised Planet Beauty does not offer a full refund if you are not completely satisfied with your products but you're able to exchange products. I believe it's within two weeks of purchase with accompanied receipt, don't quote me! Yep, that's my reason for knocking off 1 star. So ladies and gents if I were you I would be 100% sure you know your products before purchasing!! I also purchased a dry shampoo, by Bamboo Style called Cleanse Extend, ideal for brunettes and luckily I was equally satisfied with this product as well. All and all planet beauty is a well organized store with knowledgable staff and up to date top of the line products. I walked out spending a pretty penny $75+ for products but that's the price you pay to maintain/preserve that expensive root/highlight color every three months!!! Thank you Debbie for all my free samples of wonderful facial products, I love the masks to give my skin a boost before going out! I will definitely return for more products.
